First and foremost, they took my insurance, well my prior vision insurance (as my company now changed insurance this year, but that's another conversation for another day), and that in itself is a godsend. There weren't a lot of practices taking my insurance. Then, there's the caveat that the ones that were weren't taking new patients, and if they were, it was quite some time ahead. Big Bend managed to get me in within a couple of weeks for my annual check-up. That said, finding this place was a little difficult as the GPS did not want to cooperate. Luckily there are big signs outside that are easy to see. Everyone at the office was really nice, but more impressive still is the fact that I did not have my pupils dilated given all the new technology they have. I walked out of there with my prescription for both glasses and contacts sans problem. They even recommended a LASIK place to me. Overall, I liked my experience there. Dr. Malone was personal and professional, and she just made me feel at ease. Here's hoping my new vision insurance is taken by them when the time comes. I don't want to go through the ordeal of finding another eye doctor in Tallahassee.

I…read morefeel like any time I bring up a concern, my doctor seems offended or dismissive, and that makes it hard to speak up. I'm a computer programmer and stare at screens all day. I get frequent headaches and often feel like I'm straining just to see text clearly. During eye exams, when I say that none of the lens options look sharp, she still chooses the one that's closest to my old prescription -- saying she doesn't want to "make my eyes worse" by increasing it. But if I'm constantly straining to see, doesn't that make things worse too? I've had a lower-strength prescription in the past that gave me better clarity than what I have now. perhaps the eye straining is what is making it worse. but to her, she says it's still the same. I don't want to ignore her advice, but I also don't want to keep walking away from appointments feeling like I'm not being heard, and again needing to strain my eyes until next year where the same thing happens all over again. I'm considering seeing another doctor just to get a second opinion.

During the covid pandemic I am trying not to see doctors, preferring to socially distance as much…read moreand as often as possible. Well, my glasses got out of whack, and so I needed them adjusted. Paul is an amazing and caring optician. When I called to see if they were doing any sort of online appointments, he said they had not and then asked what the problem was. When I told him he gave me his cell number and asked me to FaceTime him. Wow. That's great customer service. We did FaceTime and he immediately saw the problem and told me how to fix it. I thought I had, but later that night realized I had not. So I called the next day and asked if I could come and see him. He said absolutely. I shared my concern about getting too close to people. I knew they were all wearing masks, but I asked if he would be willing to wear a face shield. He said absolutely. I went there and everything was socially distanced. And Paul came out to meet me with a face shield on. He took my glasses and fixed them in under 5 minutes. That, my friends, is wonderful service. And it is awesome that Paul and the folks at Tallahassee Eye Center care so much about the feelings and concerns of their patients.

I see a few reviews that only mention an office staff member not doing something with regards to…read moreprescriptions and I wanted to mention that prescriptions are refilled in several ways: You contact the pharmacist for a refill, you log onto the patient portal and submit a refill request, or you ask Dr. Smith to submit the refill while you are there in the office. I never had any issues with any of these three methods. I've been with Dr. Smith for twenty years, as has my daughter. She's always done the right thing, with thoughtful consideration of requests, a thorough knowledge of everyday healthcare issues and a concerted effort to learn more about healthcare issues that are less common. This has led to spot-on referrals to specialists as necessary. I could not begin to say enough about how delightful and wonderful Dr. Victoria Smith is as a doctor and much of her staff is pretty good as well. She does have healthcare students do their internships with her on occasion - so far, they've all been nice. As for the office staff - I, personally, have never had any issues with them. I have heard from my daughter that she doesn't always get the questions answered that she asks when she calls, but when I have her send the questions through the portal - she does get the results she wants. I'm not sure the turnover of secretaries there, so it may be the person who answered the phone when the review here was left (or when my daughter called) is not the same person anymore. I do know that judging Dr. Victoria Smith's practice based on one experience with a secretary is not a reflection of the overall experience I've had there for two decades. Also, any doctor won't know your experience with the secretary if you don't tell them. I know her well enough to know she'd have totally straightened out any situation that would impact the healthcare of her patients. She's got a huge heart.

Today we set aside time once again, called as instructed, and were suddenly told they don't accept Medicaid at all. This is after months of being assured they did. It's extremely frustrating, a complete waste of time, and unacceptable for a provider that is still listed on the Medicaid provider list. I have documentation showing they previously confirmed Medicaid acceptance, so this isn't a misunderstanding. I will not be recommending this office to anyone in the Tallahassee area, and I will also be notifying Medicaid so they can be removed from the provider list.
