Basically an endless supply of randomness that will keep one enthralled for hours all packed into two floors, and I haven't even scratched the surface. Apparently, I hadn't been to Cargo in over two years. That is when they moved from The Pearl over to their current location int eh southeast right next door to Kure Juice Bar and Hair of the Dog . I'm glad that I found it. The only problem is, is that when you do come here, be prepared to spend money on things that you didn't realize that you needed. It's that kind of epic place. Essentially an exotic antique furniture and contemporary hip collectibles store, with prices ranging from fifty cents to well over five thousand dollars. Paper lanterns. Tchotchkes. Hundreds and hundreds of kokeshi dolls. Frida Kahlo's image on nearly everything. Bracelets. Rosaries made of dice. Day of the Dead skulls. Paper masks. Evil eye charm beads. Ceramic knobs. So fun! We came here after I saw the reviews here, and it was so worth it! So much to look at, sensory overload, but in the best sense! Even if you're just wanting to window shop, this place is stacked with such amazing and unique finds! Little bit pricier so keep that in mind. During covid, you will want to make reservation. It's got a few "pop-ups", as well Giraffe, the best Japanese deli in the area! Cargo has imported textiles, ceramics, art, antiques, etc... from all over the world, but SE Asia and India are represented the most. You can also find local artist's work from PDX, ranging from $2 cards to $$$ pieces of art. I love the glass knobs and furniture accents downstairs. I was brought here on a date because I love antique furniture and shopping for unique items. It appeared that we needed reservations. I wasn't involved in that, but he did have to give a name when we got there. It must be their way of keeping track for contract tracing or limiting the number of shoppers at one time. I've been to Cargo nearly every time I come to Portland. It's a fantastical place of odds and ends from the far reaches of the globe. Over the years they've organized the store really well and added clothing. Having had the opportunity to travel to the other side of the world, it's hard not to have a little bit of sticker shock when you see the prices on some of the foreign imports but you don't have to go to the other side of the world to get it ;). Great place to find chotskies, white elephant gifts, and other fun knick knacks things! Also a great spot to pick up themed and colorful party decor that's not your usual dollar store fare. They have some wonderful greeting and post cards. I always scoop up a few. And I also got a soap there that was priced more cheaply there than other places I've seen this particular brand. I can see the grandma version of myself telling kiddos, "you can pick JUST ONE!" Definitely worth checking out! read more

Such a cute store, I initially just wanted to window shop and check-it out, but I ended up buying some really cute & unique gift bags made from recycled newspapers for 80 cents! And, I bought some local notecards, that were very unique and meaningful. I didn't time how long I was in there walking around checking out every little thing, but I would speculate that it was close to half- hour or so. It was very fun just looking around the shop. And, with a brewery next door (Hair of the Dog) and a costume shop across the street, and some good lunch spots and coffee shops nearby that makes it easy to make a day trip out of it. I love this store. It is a feast. From the always differently decorated entry way to the creeky old wood floors..the colors and textures of small and big things, the decor, the fabric, the inexpensive the very expensive there is something here for everyone and every budget. One of my favorite things about this store is the location. As you wander around and peruse exotic wares, the freight train rolls by right next to the windows. It is a magical spot and the ambiance draws me back to wander bout and dream. And spend $....great place for gifts whether for friends, family or yourself :) read more

Fun store. A lot yo take in! They have gorgeous flowers from someone who knows flowers. The owners travel the world to bring gold interesting items and the employees are artistic and creative and add a lot of special and beautiful details. Really fun store and worth a visit for sure. This store is fantastic. It has a huge array of Asian goods. Which sounds like a weird phrase. It has more than that too. But really, a lot of the stuff there are things that you would bring back as awesome souvenirs or gifts if you traveled to various Asian countries, and not kitschy silly stuff. I love this store! Has so many things from around the world, with a wide selection. I got my sisters eclectic wedding decorations here. I come to Portland every summer as part of an international delegation of trainers and coaches, and many are visiting the US for the first time. We always make sure to go to Cargo because its a unique store. The good things about Cargo (on Yamhill) are the kind staff and the many beautiful things to look at.......the prices are a bloody joke.......outrageous being that all the products come from countries where the items sell for pennies....Cargo seems like they mark everything 500%......it's just ridiculous.They could have a 50% off sale and still make a bundle but no they never do.It's just an insult to people who would like to be able to decorate with their many goods.I bought a paper lantern there and it fell apart when I opened it.What a shame this place is such an unbelievable rip off. read more

I bought a couple of sketch pads, a neat little mini diorama of a wedding couple in a teeny jar, a candle that smells like a piece of cake, and some of my boyfriend's favorite ginger candy that is imported from Indonesia. Love the stuff they carry but I got to say the service is seriously disappointing. Couldn't really tell who worked there because nobody ever approached us to say hello but it appeared to be one person chit-chatting with somebody in the corner. So we basically wandered around and appreciated some of the stuff but ultimately left as there was nobody there apparently interested in helping us. We've also been there twice in the past on weekday mornings when the sign says they are open and the doors have been locked. read more

There were trinkets for parties and toys and candies from other countries to hand carved and painted wood furniture for bedrooms and living spaces.
