I hate to have to leave this review because this place has been a staple of mine for more than a decade. As a jerk chicken aficionado, this place had the best flavored jerk chicken in the DMV. But there's much more to running a restaurant and just because the product is good doesn't mean you can't slack off on the other necessities. Caribbean Gardens is a what you would consider whole in the wall. If no one ever recommended it, you would never walk in because it looks unkept and unsanitary. It used to be slightly better but they've never felt the need to do better. In the past I didn't mind because of the superior product but this last time was the last straw. After not ordering from this spot for over 5 years for living outside of the DMV, I looked forward to going back to this place. It looked worse than what I remembered and something told me I was going to be unsatisfied. I ordered the "large" jerk chicken platter as usual and made the grave mistake of leaving without checking my food. What I saw when I opened the box was literally half a thigh, a piece of chicken back with little meat, a slender cut of breast meat, and the bottom piece of a drumstick with just skin and no meat. I ordered a beef patty with my meal so I'm not sure exactly how much I paid for just the jerk but the total was $22. To be fair the flavor was still good but the experience will not allow me to go back. I hope they get something figured out but as of now it's a no for me. read more

I can say this because I am have a Jamaican by birth. This is absolutely the worst Jamaican food I have ever had in my life. I spent $23 for an SVG dinner plate that was baked cod and pickled onions and peppers. This had as much to do about Jamaican food as pig feet have to do with kosher dining. THE WORST !!!! read more

Jerk chicken was okay. Could have been better because they ran out of jerk sauce. They did offer to give me more but I would've had to wait 20 minutes. I ordered a spicy beef patty and she gave it to me as I waited for my chicken. The patty was excellent and I should have brought 2. The cabbage was also very tasty, not too soft or salty. The Jamaican food here is great. I've personally had the beef patties, curry chicken and the brown stew chicken here. Delicious. I've heard that the jerk chicken and oxtail are amazing as well. If you are ordering the jerk chicken, you may want to call ahead because it runs out quickly and it's cooked, at least partially, on the grill out front. Meals, depending on how big and what protein you get, cost around $10-$12 and that includes rice and peas and two sides. Expect a decent amount of food. I always carryout but there are a few tables set up as well as a small section of bar-style seating against the wall. There are Caribbean restaurants closer to me but this place is my favorite by far and worth the extra travel. read more

I am a event planner, in the DMV area, and I had a client that was getting married in less then a week and was in need of a caterer ASAP: the one she'd retained earlier on in her planning process had gone MIA for some reason, so the bride was forced to retain another caterer at the last minute. She stopped by to see Paulette (store owner) at Caribbean Gardens, since she and her fiance had patronized the restaurant; and the food was always so good: she need to know if they'd be able to cater her event with such a short window of time, and 130 guest arriving. Ms. Paulette assured her that she would take care of everything. Take care of everything she did! The food was soooo good, that the guest complimented and request the caterer's name and information the entire evening. Caribbean Garden's saved a "Bride in distress" and me too as her wedding planner. I will continue to recommend this restaurant to all of my clients in the future. I was on grub hub last night and tried to order from this restaurant but I was unable to place an order so my friend goes up there to place the order. We even tried to call ahead and there was no answer. At the moment its 10pm Friday night and they close at 12am. No big deal, the restaurant is 4 mins away or something. He returns over an hour later with half cooked rice and 75% of what we ordered was rice based. We spent $60 and had to throw away most of the rice because it was so undercooked.. I dont know if the time of year had anything to do with it but this time the food was finger-licking, suck out de bone marrow good! I have been looking for an authentic Caribbean spot in the area, and I've finally found it! Best oxtails in town so far! Full of flavor. Cabbage was also well seasoned and the rice and peas was good, not mushy at all (like some other places in the area I have tried). Portion size was really big even though I only had a small. Out right disappointed! I been going to Caribbean gardens for years. Today was I was so disgusted to high heaven. I went in there to get a simple chicken patty. And the young lady I usually deal was there but some older lady with glasses assisted me instead. I Ask for two chicken patties, purchased and left as I broke a piece of it I notice it was beef and went back in to exchange. The nerve of women told me no it's chicken I showed her and she insisted it was (chicken). For one I been eating patties my whole life I'm a yardie I know the difference between chicken and beef. You would be better served getting food from Popeye's across the street than here. At least one spicy chicken leg from Popeye's would make up for 4 meals there.
