I'm giving this review based on what it is, a very casual restaurant. You order at the counter then they bring you the food when it's ready, no frills. I had the masas de puercos ( fried pork) with black beans, white rice and an order of plantains. The only two complaints that I had were, the white rice was way over cooked and two of the pork chunks (yes I know pork can be fatty) were solid fat and inedible they should not serve that in this manner. They could have used those pieces and made chicharonnes out of it. Decent Cuban food for the area and the value was good, the cost was $22.

There are several other posts about how great the Cuban Sandwich is, and believe me, it was excellent, but the star of my meal was the fried yuca. If you're a yuca fan, this is the best yuca I've ever had. Despite it coming straight from the fryer, there was zero residual grease or oil on these things. They didn't even need salt which blew my mind. Of course, using the green/yellow dipping sauce made them even better, but I ate most of them on my way home without dressing them up with anything. I had issues with calling ahead and ordering, but the food made up for that and I will 100% be back to try more.

Glad to have this place as another Latino option in the scarcity of cultural food in Northern Virginia. We were promptly greeted at the counter, where you order your food and pay. Moments later our food was brought to us by one of the friendly chefs that resembled all of our mothers. Food was good, the two sauces helped give it a spicy kick, if you need that, like I did. Will need to come back to try the jerk chicken.

The staff was great however the food itself wasn't all that good. Jerk chicken was different then expected just a hint of jerk, white rice was extremely sticky, fried plantains had no flavor. Only thing that was good was the drink. Very nice people here though l.

El Pollo Rico was my first Peruvian chicken spot. After over 15 years since this experience I've…read morepatronized quite a few different places and ventured back to where the journey began to compare. Spoiler Alert: It's number 1. Though what I really like about the place changed. When I first went all they offered was Chicken, Cole slaw, and fries. In a world of many option I actually thought this sent a message that we are so good we only offer a limited choice that's you will enjoy. Tbf the fries can't compete w McD or Chikfila Waffle fries but they were good. The service counter is modernized and they are efficient and friendly. The layout if the restaurant is still basic like the limited menu they used to have. No frills no gimmicks just good food. Still the same vibe The chicken was still very good. Other places are fairly close but Apollo Rico is just a touch better. The charred seasoning is evident. What tipped the scales for me in comparison to other places I've been is the green sauce. It liked fresh. It wasnt like other places where that has the consistency of ketchup it looked bright green and freshly made vs other places where it seems as if it was poured out a container.

So glad I finally got to try this place. I went around 5:30 on a weekday and there was maybe 2…read moreother people in line. So it was definitely the best time to go. We ordered a half chicken with yuca and beans as the sides. It was very quick, we got our food within seconds it felt like. The chicken was probably the most flavorful kind of Pollo a la Brasa that I have had. It wasn't too greasy either. Just very tasty. The beans were delicious!! I didn't think I would like them as much. The yuca was pretty good too. Nice and crispy. I do wish they had slightly more options for sides, maybe even an Arroz Chaufa. This is a no frills kinda place so don't expect anything too fancy. But it is clean! And that's what makes it more authentic and fun in my opinion! Will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

At happy hour pricing, they're an easy reason to come back on repeat. The food holds its own too, which isn't always a given on a discounted menu. The Cuban sandwich is a standout -- pressed properly, good balance of pork, ham, and cheese, with that tangy mustard kick that a Cuban needs to actually taste like a Cuban. The yucca and tostones basket is the perfect companion -- crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and great for dipping into whatever sauce comes alongside. Great spot to grab a couple mojitos and snacks without the full dinner price tag. Between the Cuban and the yucca/tostones basket, it's an easy recommendation for a casual after-work stop or an easy start to a night out.

I remember coming to Casta's Rum Bar back in the day when it was more of a nightlife spot, but…read morerecently I've been going for their happy hour - and honestly, it's become one of my favorites. Their mojito is exactly how it should be: super refreshing, light, and not overly sweet. I also tried the frozen piña colada, and it genuinely transports you with every sip. So good. Food-wise, you really can't go wrong. The yuca & tostones basket is a must every time - perfectly crispy with a slight tang from the sauce that keeps you going back for more. I've had both the chicken and beef empanadas, and adding a little of the sauces they serve with them just brings everything together. I was a little hesitant about the maduros envueltos en tocino (plantains wrapped in bacon), but they completely surprised me - in the best way. Sweet, savory, and honestly addictive. And the Cuban sandwich? Top notch. You can tell they've really nailed the bread, which makes all the difference. Everything also comes with a side of greens in a light vinaigrette, which balances things out so you don't leave feeling too heavy. The vibe is lowkey with dim lighting and always great music playing - perfect for a date night or just catching up with friends. The servers are always very attentive and polite, which makes the experience even better. They also have a separate smoke room where you can wind down with a Cuban cigar, and the prices are pretty reasonable. Definitely a spot I keep coming back to.
