    Pup with her new bandage
    Samantha G.

UPDATE: They terminated my service immediately after leaving the office!! 1 Star because the actual service provided is great, but communication with pricing seems to be an ongoing problem and this matter was handled very unprofessionally. I brought my Pom in last Sept when she broke her left arm. We had some communication issues over the phone about how much a bandage change would be. I was quoted $15, but it was actually $50. After requesting the office manager listen to the call, I was informed that it was an error on their side and they apologized but offered no compensation. Second time around, she broke her right leg this past February. I had already been thru this and knew about the costs involved for regular checkups. I continued to pay over $250 at a time to use my care credit to receive 6 months 0% financing. During our 2nd to last appointment, I asked Dr Black if I needed to prepay for anything for next week when she was expected to get her splint off. The answer was No. So I used another card that did not offer me any financing deals. After our final appointment, I was given a total which included a follow up X-ray and an exam fee (which I specially asked about the prior week). When I question these charges, I was told that Dr Black misunderstood and was only referring to not having to prepay for another bandage change. The technician informed me that services were already rendered and these are my charges. While I'm explaining my frustration, the front office staff tells me that since they are not meeting my standards, there are other offices that can help me. I felt like this was completely unprofessional and explained that since we've already had issues with payment in the past, I should be given the charges ahead of time like I have been this entire process, but for some reason today was a big misunderstanding and it only hurts me, the customer, and nobody else seems to care. I hope I never have to go back after this.

Run far away from this practice. My 3 pets were patients for over 4 years. One of my pets, a cat, had a diagnosis of IBD before we started treating at Caring Hearts. He was well managed by Dr. Montes for 4 years on prescription food. 3 months ago I noticed his eating had decreased and he had lost a small amount of weight. I immediately called for an appointment with Dr. Montes, but there was nothing available for a month. So I scheduled a drop in visit. He saw Dr. Black who ran labs that were perfect and said she saw nothing clinically wrong and assumed he was bored of his food so she prescribed another brand. That did not work and I e-mailed her the next day. Two days later (and I had contacted them multiple times) I got a response from a tech who said she suggested an ultrasound to see the progress of his IBD. I agreed. I waited a week for an appointment and finally went back in for an urgent care visit with Dr. Montes. He also said he saw nothing clinically wrong and thought it was behavioral. At that point he was only eating a few treats daily. He was prescribed with an anti-nausea med for a week and that actually helped; he still would not eat food but gladly ate all the treats I would give him. Dr. Montes promised he was here for me. After that week he switched him to an appetite stimulant, which did not work. I contacted Dr. Montes and his staff 8 times with no response. We finally ended up at the emergency hospital Caring Hearts recommended because he wasn't eating at all. They recommended a referral to one of their Internal medicine specialists and re-started him on the anti-nausea medicine. It did not work as well this time; and they miss-dosed him by double dosing him over the recommended safe amount. It was 2 weeks before I could get into the specialist. We ended up in emergency 2 more times; once overnight because he was eating nothing at all. At that visit they changed the appetite stimulant and that one worked. I was trying desperately to keep him alive long enough to actually see the specialist. Still no response from Dr. Montes or anyone else at Caring Hearts. We went to the specialist finally. He had an ultrasound which was inconclusive. They scheduled an aspiration; no cancer in the lymph nodes, but the abdomen showed an ulcer so they were not able to aspirate. He was prescribed medicine for that. Still no response from Dr. Montes. We came up with a plan of sorts. And that very night he once again declined. This time no eating at all, no drinking, and giving me a hard time about his meds as well as symptoms of a urinary/bowel obstruction. Another visit to the ER. More meds, imaging fine. (now 16 medicine applications a day). Still no response from Dr. Montes or my pet's specialist who was in the same building as the ER - and he WAS there, just decided to not respond. The next morning he was vomiting despite being given a heavy dose of anti-nausea meds and refusing any medication. Hadn't eaten for 36 hrs. No drinking. No potty. Internal Medicine closed for 3 days. It was clear to me my beautiful 7 year old cat was just done with it all and I made the difficult decision to let him go after $10,000 of bills and no real treatment, and weeks of non-response from his primary veterinarian. I miss my buddy more than I can say. He was the most handsome boy ever; loving, naughty, he was exquisite. I have zero doubt that his death is at least 85% the fault of his absent and negligent veterinary providers. I believe he would be alive today if they had taken action when I first contacted them. Imagine how it feels to desperately try to get medical care for your pet when you know they will die and yet be ignored. I am devastated that I was not able to find him the medical care he needed. I tried every day for 24 hrs a day to save him. I wish on each of them that they and their families get the medical care they afforded to my family. Stay away from this practice for anything other than vaccines if you actually like your pets, They deserve so much better.. They most certainly are not "Caring Hearts". And I still have not heard from Dr. Montes, not even a condolence card.

But once we met John and Shauna, the owners, we quickly realized our fur babies were in the best hands possible. They were not only warm and welcoming but also incredibly professional. If you're a pet owner looking for a true 10-out-of-10 service, this is the company. Our pet sitter, Karen, was nothing short of amazing--so loving, so attentive, and so patient with our very needy black cat, Jax. She didn't just stop by; she stayed, hung out, and genuinely spent time with him. And even though our gray cat, Dolce, didn't come out very much, she was just as incredible in caring for her and making sure she felt safe and comfortable. Wow... just wow! We were floored by her love for animals. THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking such great care of the fur babies we love dearly. I would recommend this company to absolutely anyone. And honestly, anyone leaving anything less than a five-star review? Shame on you! These people love animals and treat your pets as if they were their own. Amazing, amazing, amazing! (I thought since the reviews were perfect, they might come thru... but instead... nada!) We were considering giving them a pet sitting job for over a month in length. But unfortunately they can't be reached via the phone. I left a vm and waited an entire week and got no call back. Backstory: Ironically I believe there's someone named Shauna who operates the website and Yelp(and does a prompt job responding), but John the caretaker is the one who's phone number is associated with the biz, and he is unable to be reached to line up appointments!! (I contacted them a year or two ago when we were considering using them. We didn't end up needing them, but when we tried them last week when we finally did, John did not decide to call us back.) I'm glad others have good experiences. But that was not ours. ‍

From the very beginning when she sends you the questionnaire that includes all sorts of detailed questions so that nothing will be missing in case of need to the text message she requests and responds to once you've arrived home we know that leaving our dog in her care is something we can do without the slightest concern. When we are out of town she visits twice per day, walking Chili our lab/pit girl, and even taking her to the dog park! We joke that Chili likes it when we go out of town because she enjoys her visits from Sabrina so much! Sabrina is very knowledgeable about dogs as well. When Chili developed a strange skin problem that was not responding to anything from the vet Sabrina recommended adding an item from the kitchen pantry to Chili's diet and now about 2 months later the skin problem is gone. Sabrina is absolutely reliable, extremely organized and professional, very responsive to emails and texts, and just in general is an uncommon and highly valuable resource. I just don't encounter many people out there in the world who are as reliable and committed to their work as Sabrina. When we return home from a 2+ week vacation Chili is calm and happy. Not sure what else we could hope for...other than to be able to take Chili with us everywhere. In the meantime, Sabrina is a terrific resource, and we are very thankful to have found her. She is friendly enough when first greeting someone, but she will not let other people pick her up or come running up to them until trust is built. Not with Cheryl. Cheryl is one of those people who really has a special connection with animals. I was amazed at how quickly Biscuit just came up to her and let Cheryl get close and asked for affection from her. The entire time we were away Cheryl sent us updates every day, with pictures. It really helped me feel better about leaving her alone. Cheryl would even do little things like turn the fan off in a certain room so the cat could get warmer (As she thought it would be more comfortable for her). And she asked to put on some ambient noise for the cat so that it wasn't so quiet in the time between visits. She even sat down with Biscuit and enjoyed her lunches with our cat while visiting, sometimes watching videos of birds with her to get biscuit interested. :) Working with Cheryl was easy, and honestly the best person we could have possibly wound up with. We lucked out finding her I think... I mean sure Rover has options, but none of the sitters seem to focus on cats (solely or primarily). I approached my search wearily and was careful who I chose to drop in to check on my animals while away on a trip. As I inquired with Cheryl about using her services, she was very warm & friendly. She was approachable with questions, and was an excellent communicator. After our initial conversation about dates and services needed, She scheduled a meet-up with me and my wife at home before we booked anything with her so she could get to know our animals, and communicate with us first-hand about exactly what we needed from her. The meet-up was important, as we got to know each other and I got a feel for her background. She is a semi-retired professional and has decades worth of experience with ALL KINDS of animals. As we gave her a tour and explained exactly what we needed, she took a copious amount of detailed notes: referencing where everything was located, what exact steps were required to feed/water/ clean, areas to avoid in the house, off limit areas for the animals, and even which exact key words served our animals for commands or companionship. While we were away, Cheryl helped clean, feed, water, and spend time with our 2 cats and crested gecko. Every time she came in, she took pictures or videos to keep us updated on how they're doing that day. It was nice to see her interacting with our lonely fur & scale babies and our our minds were out at at ease that they were in good hands. She also helped bring our mail in and make sure things were tidy around the house, assisting with messes the animals may have caused. Recently over Christmas, we had severe winter storm Elliot slam into a majority of the country. Because of this, thousands and thousands of flights were completely cancelled. My flight back home to AZ from CA was no exemption. After reaching out to Cheryl and explaining the last minute situation, she was easily able to fit checking-in on my house and was VERY accommodating! Of all the stresses of being stranded away from home, not exactly sure how long of a wait to get back home, she was such a huge blessing for me to at least not to have to worry about my animals! Cheryl is the exact kind of friendly person you want to have in your house, loving your animals while you are away. She is very people savvy, animal savvy, smart, well organized, and most of all dependable!

After his time at CharlieBar, everything changed. Angus now walks calmly on a leash, his reactivity has decreased by at least 90%, and he thrives during his daily training sessions at home. The most remarkable part of Ricardo's approach is that it goes beyond basic commands--he teaches dogs how to think, make decisions, and self-correct.
