I cannot speak more highly of Carinn Boe. She is a hair wizard and one of the most dedicated stylists I have ever met and I've only seen her once. To begin with, I have very particular tastes and very particular hair. I have spent a modest amount to a small fortune with various hair stylists and rarely am I actually 100% pleased with the hair service and customer service, although a few have come close. I moved to the Seattle area from LA, so I had no reference point for who to go to get my hair done, so I did loads of research on stylists who could work with my fine, thick, curly, mixed hair. I wanted someone who knew a lot about hair and styling it, but also coloring dark hair, since I made the decision to go from about a level 3 dark brunette to about a level 8 blonde. Carinn's name popped up over and over again on Yelp. I made the consultation with Carinn and she answered all of my questions fully and professionally. She completely listened to me and my concerns as a first time blonde and she made some insightful suggestions. Together we determined a plan for doing my hair and she was even wiling to have me as her last client of my appointment day, so we could have as much time as necessary. I was so impressed that she treated new clients with such care and respect. She gave me a quote for $205, which is really very good for a couple processes, some balayage, a cut, and blow dry. I emailed her a few times with regard to some questions that would pop up and she can be a bit difficult to get a hold of via email; however, when the day of my appointment came, she was very apologetic about being so busy and she answered all of my remaining questions. We talked products and we went over what I should expect in the salon and what I could expect after. We even talked about the emotional effects of such a drastic hair change. She's so awesome. And thank goodness she is a great conversation because the entire process took about 9 HOURS. This wasn't the fault of Carinn, I had just had some really stubborn residual dye on my hair that wouldn't lift and Carinn didn't want to push my hair too much because we both wanted to keep it pretty and as healthy as possible. We ended up doing 2 bleaches, some balayage and foils, roots, a toning, a deep condition, a blow dry and cut my hair straight. The results were amazing! I was this beautiful shade of blonde with lots of dimension and my hair felt soft and was shiny and surprisingly very healthy-looking and even the cut was beautiful. It's the first time a stylist has succeeded in leaving me with wispy, not blunt ends. And I can tell that Carinn is so in love with being a hair stylist and has so much passion for her work and clients because that woman did not lose her energy the entire time. She even offered to walk me to my car, since it was about 4am in downtown. The final cost came to about $250 before tip, which I find more than fair the work she put in and the upkeep of my hair won't be as much. Since then, I've been using a violet shampoo and my hair just keeps looking better and better and I'm sure after using Olaplex with Carinn next time, my hair will be even more gorgeous. So much love for this woman right now. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for great color and anyone with more finicky or curly hair. read more

Stay far from this business and their owner Carinn Boe. I am still shaken. Had a horrific experience with her, a truly disturbed individual and that is without the hair cut. I arrived 10mins prior to appointment as a new client to show respect and be mindful of parking. There is a store front to the hair salon with chairs. Realized she locks out customers if she is not prepared for her appointment, after knocking and no response. She peeked through her curtain and pretended not to see but the storefront is all glass so I can see and tried to smile and wave. Tried to give benefit of the doubt maybe music is playing or she didnt see me waving thorugh all the glass? I called the number provided by the booking app. She ignores call. Knocked until a dog inside started barking. She comes to the door, no smile, no greeting, just upset, irriated by my early arrival. Give her compassion, so I wait. Carinn doesn't open the door, upset and flustered, yells through the door to me she needs time to set up. Does not invite new customer in to have a seat while there is ample seating and cool air inside. Its 90F in West Seattle. There is a dog inside being given more consideration than the customers. She is already 10 mins late and having attitude about setting up. She also looks incredibly disheveled for a professional whose industry is beauty and wellness. I am trying to have compassion as a woman and small business owner. Maybe she is having a bad day or had a rough night. Once she allows me inside while waiting in 90F, there is no welcome or professionalism. She begins to project animosity and defensive behavior as I walked in smiling, trying to highlight a positive over multiple red flags from this situation. I tried to positively remark how cool and conditioned inside was. "SO DO YOU EVEN WANT TO DO THIS?" Carinn raised voice, projects with disdain. I see she is struggling and feeling defensive abt the day she is having and how she is acting but she decides to double down. I decide not engage. No response. Carinn offers no welcome dialog just the rudest, rebuke to put on a mask which is absolutely not an issue for me, happy to comply. I am Vaccinated and boosted, take care of multiple cancer patients and have elderly family members and a respect for my community. However what stunned me from moving was her aggression. After multiple red flag behaviors, I felt alarmed enough to address my concern respectfuly being new to her and this salon. I led with having recently moved here I made an effort to book her in order to support local, female owned businesses. I let her know that my experience so far felt pretty inconsiderate and unprofessional but that I was trying to understand her stress as a small business owner during these times. She cannot acknowledge the boundaries and fine points I made simply addressing this specific issue. She deflects and engages with "WELL THERE'S A SURGE! I TOLD YOU TO PUT A MASK ON!" It went from trying to speak empathic to just stunned by the aggressive manner, raised voice yelling, defensive and protecting just the most intense attitude for having just met a new customer! She continues in this manner to the point of aggression I am too stunned to move for fear of her reaction. I felt it was unsafe to be in her hands and vicinity and told her so. I was so shaken my her unstable behavior, and nervous abt being in her establishment, that I left my food and tea on the counter so scared as she yelled at me more about the mask as I was calmly trying to exit with dignity. As I take final steps out the door to remove myself as fast as possible, doing my absolute best to not engage, she yells very closely into the side of my face "TAKE YOUR FOOD! TAKE YOUR FOOD! TAKE YOUR FOOD" in rapid aggressive succession. Feeling my safety compromised by Carinn's behaviors, I was not about to go back deeper into her salon where I could be assaulted or yelled at or put in any unsafe situation which is the risk with individuals displaying unstable behavior. Scared to go back or remain within her vicinity, I hastily said out the door she could throw the food I just needed to get away to be safe! Wanted to give an honest account about this individual on this day. The store front seemed nice and great location. She may have adequate salon skills as advertized but professionalism, respect,empathy, safety, absolutely was not evident during this exposure. I love going to see Carinn - she's the only stylist I trust to do my fashion colors because I know she'll get it right. I may like to rock pink in my hair, but I am still a full time professional woman with a job that requires good grooming. When I go see Carinn, I know that I will walk out with the flair I need for my soul and the style I need for my workplace. Additionally, I have obnoxious, coarse, wavy-curly hair and Carinn was the first stylist to really teach me methods to tame and even exalt it. We've collaborated over cut, and products, and how to get the most out of a diffuser. (Who knew, you don't just wave it at your head!) And yet she never pressures me to buy product - just advises me a few things which will work, from product there in the shop to things like apple-cider vinegar rinses at home to keep my color fresh. While going full bore on my hair is not cheap, Carinn knows that there are budgets to be met and helps me find ways to stretch all those pennies. Lastly, and in some ways most importantly, Carinn's someone I can really enjoy a conversation with. Since a cut, color and foil can take 2+ hours, you must understand that this is a pretty critical item! I lived on the Eastside for almost all of that time, and it was very worth it going over the bridges (even during rush hour) to see her in Seattle once a month. At my first visit I had my usual hesitation at having someone new cut my hair. But she immediately put me at ease and not only listened to my ideas about what I wanted, but offered her own well-informed suggestions as well. I can't recommend Carinn more highly for all things cut and color. She is a goddamned genius when it comes to hair. She is my secret weapon, and can be yours, too. First, she is highly skilled. Her cuts are always on point, she can go as conservative or as creative as you'd like, and she has the vision to achieve gorgeous results at all points along this spectrum. Her range of experience spans decades of looks and trends and also does justice to the classics. She can handle all of it without any hesitation. Having naturally curly hair herself, she is also a master in the curly hair field - which is rare. Her coloring skills are brilliant, pun intended. She has worked magic on my quickly graying tangle of hair, providing me with a color that matches my skin tone perfectly, and has a wide range of natural looking highlights, lowlights and face-framing accents - with a ton of shine. I haven't been able to achieve the natural level of color with any other colorist in the city, and I frequently get compliments. I've watched from the drying chair many times to see her work on others and am always impressed - from fun and funky color trends, to tried-and-true complex classics. I've seen her do highly complicated color corrections on customers that have gone to other salons - and she is able to apply patience and skill to achieve the best outcome. I'm also a huge fan of her Davines flamboyage technique, which provides natural, non-streaky/skunky/stripey highlights. She is always up-to-date on the most current education and new techniques, and continues to evolve with the field. She is kind, warm, personable and listens intently to what you want and need. She remembers you, and genuinely wants you to look your best. She provides an excellent, quality experience without the pretension, posturing and pettiness that can occur in salon-land. She has been in charge of my hair for almost 5 years- she's become a great friend and inspired me to have fun with what I have on my head. CUTS-- I came to Carinn with very thick-wavy and curly (box dye!) red grad school hair. We started with just haircuts. She didn't judge me for the box dye and worked with my student budget. The cuts were awesome from the start, and got more awesome as I became a consistent client and she learned what my hair could really do. Her maverick combination of cutting/texturizing techniques are bolder and more exciting than any other stylist I have ever been to. She is very confident and makes you feel confident as well. Let her do her thing- it works!I learned to embrace my hair in a "big" way. **The curly cuts also work perfectly blown straight. I have never had a stylist who was able to make my hair work so well both ways with one cut for months on end. I could afford her cuts because they last so long. COLOR-- We started to work with color three years ago. Carinn was experimenting with new Flamboyage techniques- painting color onto curls to amplify the volume, cut and texture of the hair. She combined many shades of red, copper, dark brown and even magentas- which worked together for a brilliant hyper-real effect. She adds and evolves her color work each time you visit (never repeats the same thing twice.) People often still ask if it is "natural". Ha! Pull aside one ringlet and you can see all the dimension of tone and color that makes it pop. SO AMAZING to let her work her creative color genius on your head. She is an expert colorist, with tons of experience and confidence in her instincts and process. The color holds up (and evolves well) between sessions which make it a great value. Again- let her do her thing- it works! COLOR CORRECTION-- Feb 2015 (Important this is not a correction of Carinn's color or a suggestion that I was unhappy in nay way with my supernatural red hair- this was a "color correction" she took on to accommodate an extreme request on my end!) After she worked on my red-head for years, I asked her to take my hair to platinum/silver for a role in a new preformance project. For any colorist this would be a pretty blasphemous (and challenging) request to take hair from one extreme to another. Carinn embraced the change and the challenge. She just spent (7!) hours intricately bleaching the different colors and color patterns from my hair. She was honest in managing my expectations (which she exceeded anyway!) and took care to keep my hair as healthy as possible. I lost almost NO HAIR in this 7 hour double process and my sensitive scalp is fine. I am now blond with one more process session to go platinum. pics of full transformation coming soon!
