this was a weekly lunch for two years deer park stretch. working for a big maintenance contractor. showing up from southern california thinking lunch was going to be something light and temporary it was not southern komfort kitchen became part of the schedule walk in and it's tables full of guys still in it. FR jumpsuits, boots, sleeves rolled, badges clipped. blue coveralls from lyondell, red from shell, a few others mixed in depending on the turnaround situation that week everyone eating like they earned it menu is not subtle chicken fried steak, gravy doing real work, boudin balls, fried everything that can be fried. portions that don't ask questions first few weeks felt like an introduction by month three it was just the system gained about 15 lbs during that stretch which made sense. doctor looked at it and said keep going which was unexpected but appreciated food hits in a very direct way. no interpretation. no explanation. just arrives and solves lunch but the real thing here isn't even the food it's the room this is where stories live you sit down and within five minutes something is already happening at the table next to you. hunting stories, plant stories, equipment stories, things that clearly started somewhere else and are now being finished over lunch there was one that went on for weeks brad handlebar mustache. former linebacker at LSU. the kind of presence where when he starts talking the table reorganizes itself he got into nikon scopes not casually full breakdown. bow hunting. sight lines. clarity. distances. adjustments. what works, what doesn't, who thinks they know and doesn't this was not a one day conversation this was a series every week a new layer by the end of it there was a conclusion that felt fully proven anyone telling a bow hunting story about hitting something without using a nikon scope is lying not mistaken lying and it was delivered with enough conviction that it became part of the operating system there were also discussions about AR-15 setups for family members at christmas, fusing jobs that almost went sideways, and other things that felt like they required this exact room to exist properly you realize after a while that this place isn't just feeding people it's holding conversations that don't happen anywhere else walk out full, slightly heavier than when this whole stretch started, and with information that wasn't necessarily requested but is now permanent five stars this is where lunch turns into something else entirely read more

I took my team here, which was close to our office. We got there around 12:30 and got seated right away. The service was great, served fresh and fairly quick. The menu had some exotic meats and a good variety of choices choose from. Great southern food and service. read more

We had a family lunch here on a Saturday after an infant baptism. There were 20 of us. Upon arrival, the tables were set up and ready for us. Our server was fantastic and somehow handled the entire group by herself. There was a lunch and brunch menu available. Brunch is just Saturday and Sunday. The food was good. Biscuits and gravy had literal chunks of sausage. A great contrast to other places that serve sausage flavored gravy. Fried okra was excellent and onion rings were massive. Mimosas were nice and my coffee cup was never empty. The atmosphere was fun and rustic with wild game hanging on the walls and lots of neon. I apologize I didn't take any pics of the good. This is such a great place. We just went got my daughter's birthday and 5 of my grandkids came too. First of all - the food is so good and you get a lot. I ordered the blackened red snapper and they gave me 2 filets!! It was so good. We tried the boudin balls. Very tasty. The alligator nuggets. Very good. The fried pickles and mushrooms definitely will get more when I go back . Chicken fried chicken was split between 2 adults and it was plenty. Lots of gravy and cooked very well. Bowl of seafood gumbo Yum! Shrimp and crawfish with rice. Very well seasoned. The kids had burgers, chicken nuggets, quesadillas and Mac and cheese. It was so much I could've eaten it as an adult plate. Kids loved it. They have live music. The interior is filled with fantastic taxidermy animals. Friend held a Christmas party here and had a good time. Very nice indoor/outdoor covered venue with stage for live band. Friendly service for a large group. Disappointed First time visitors and was excited to find a good home cooking environment to begin frequenting as our preferred outing on Friday nights. When we arrived, (even though not crowded), the host only gave us the option to dine in the bar or outside in the cold where a band was playing. We asked the server why we couldn't dine in the main dining room since it was our first time and wanted to experience the ambiance and decor, she informed us they had to alternate guests to provide wait staff shared opportunities. The menu did offer a great amount of choices and they brought a variety of rolls and biscuits before the meal so this gave us hope but not for long. We ordered drinks which were over inflated on the price and my wife's mango daiquiri had no flavor and tasted like watered down orange juice with no taste of alcohol at all. She stated it was the worst tasting drink she had ever been served. We ordered the fried jalapeños appetizer which was outstanding. We both ordered the chicken fried steak meals. Mine came with a fully loaded baked potato that had no butter at all and was dry. The worst part was the baked potato was totally cold when it arrived. The rest of the meal was pretty good except the sides were small portioned and the entire time we sat in the bar area the door to the patio kept flinging open allowing blasts of music and cold air to rush in and the wait staff were in constant traffic storming by next to our table and the constant roar of the bar blender running to make drinks creating no peaceful environment to enjoy a meal. This also bothered everyone else in the area because of the sour looks on their faces when the staff slammed the doors open. We had high hopes of enjoying this outing and a peaceful meal but realized the management cares more about being fair to waitresses by sharing customers instead of customer loyalty and care. I believe nobody in the bar area that night will be repeat customers by the looks on their faces. Due to the traffic and noise, we might as well have eaten next to a freeway. The whole experience was highly disappointing and I don't see this establishment flourishing in the future as much as it could with their mindset of herding customers in. read more

As much as I'd like to at least give 3 stars, due to the kindness of the managers, I just can't after seeing the toilet situation when we left. Everything went wrong. Waitress getting our orders wrong. Plate of seafood having over fried shrimp and under (raw) fried shrimp. Waitress being argumentative. Showing the Yelp free appetizer coupon and being told they do not honor them anymore. Then being told they do but not all the appetizers are on it. Then the waitress insisted that they have to scan the coupon. I have never seen this done, ever and she actually didn't. We were needing some southern komfort food in our lives and stopped in to try a bite...or 12. I had the regular sized chicken fried chicken with brown gravy. Very good! My wife had the chicken fried steak southern style and said it was delicious. The rolls and corn bread were yummy with the sweet butter that comes with it. Fried shrimp plate with baked potato , side salad. Salad was fresh, shrimp large and cooked well. Backed potato probably from lunch but still good. A pet peve of mine is salads that are not cut to bite size and this one was really large and took more trying to cut it up without making a mess than it would have taken to eat if prepared correctly. As a note shrimp should be served over a few fries of bread slice at they sweat against the plate and cause soggy batter. Overall good service and food. read more

True southern comfort food! Love the food! The Chicken Fried Steak is real steak and perfectly crispy! The Chicken Gizzards were tender and delicious! I've had this restaurant on my radar for a couple of years now, and I finally made it a point to stop there on a recent trip to Pasadena. Their menu reminds me a little of Texas Roadhouse; however, the interior is completely different. Like other Yelpers indicate, there are numerous animals mounted on the wall consisting of mostly deer, but also gator, and fish. There are even displays of cougar, bear and even the front half of a steer. Interesting menu items you may not see anywhere else include chicken fried sausage and griddle top mac and cheese. I ordered the 'Texan' chicken fried steak which the server warned me was huge. Its a 1 lb hand-breaded cfs. I chose chuckwagon beans and griddle top mac n cheese as my sides. CFS - it was big, not quite the largest I've ever had. Breading was great, meat comes to the edge all the way around. Steak ranged from 1/4" to 3/4" thick. Not fork tender, but not chewy, just right. I saw some versions of this CFS in the photos that looked much bigger, but that's probably because they were pounded thinner. Mine was on the thick side, which I prefer. Griddled mac n cheese - baked first then bottom is browned on the flat top. This isn't a soupy mac n cheese, which I liked; however, I wasn't real thrilled with the burnt pasta taste from some of the elbows on the bottom. Chuckwagon beans - basically a Texas red chili, not bad. Overall, I would consider coming back whether to try other menu items or to bring a client, because it's just that kind of restaurant. read more

Service sucked. Mixed drinks were awful. Food was subpar. Waiter decided to flirt and gossip with other waiters around our table instead of concentrating on their own work. Mixed up our orders. Even after relaying them back to us. Another waiter behind us decided that talking loudly about human voiding in detail with another table was a good idea when we were trying to eat. Well, we have driven by this restaurant for years after competing at barrel races at the Lomax arena. Tonight we decided to stop after the barrel race and we are glad that we did. First, our server Jason was spot on. When asked he mentioned what they are known for and gave us a run down on the menu. I ordered food from here on DoorDash and they didn't even have cheese in the Mac and cheese. Like they gave me buttered noodles, like why advertise it as Mac and cheese and just give me plain ass noodles. The country fried chicken was okay. The portion size for a 5$ banana pudding was so freaking small and not worth it. I swear they are allergic to spices and flavor. The food from this place was straight disrespectful on how bad it was.
