Portrait Photography. We hired Anne Hilling to take an outdoor family protrait to fill a specific…read morespot in our home. She insisted on coming into our home to "view the space" after I had brought a photo of that space to her. She then proceeded to ransack my family's closets insisting that she select our clothing. For my daughter she choose a fuscia shirt out of the pile of clothes to be donated. It was way too small. Yes, I told her, and was completely ignored. For my son she chose a worn out football shirt with big numbers on it. For a beach picture! She dismissed our protests by saying we could change into the earth tones we had chosen later. (Never happened) We spent five hours, from 4-9 PM trying to get a picture taken. She attempted to get the kids to hold unnatural poses for endless amounts of time. The kids were cold, hungry and uncomfortable. They held it together WAY better than my husband and I. Then, she only had two useable shots to review with us! Of course I hated the clothes, so we didn't buy either. I could shoot myself for agreeing to retake the portrait, but by that time winter was setting in and my daughter had lost her front teeth. Not to mention the $250 fee we'd lose. We didn't want to wait until next fall. The second setting lasted three hours. I still feel her expectations are unrealistic for anyone, let alone kids. I can't hold an uncomfortable pose squatting on rocks and logs for 20 minutes. I don't expect a five year old to, either. That setting produced one usable image. I mean Anne showed us one finished image! She told us none of the rest of them were decent. She was also WAY more expensive that most other photographers of her caliber. She was very put off that we declined to have her frame and mount the picture. She also insisted that the size we had selected was too small for the place we wanted to put it. In the end, the size we got was only 6 inches smaller than the height of the wall. With a 3 inch frame, the picture looks like it's crammed into the space. Couldn't use it in the end. Her solution: switch it with another portrait we already had and it was too bad we hadn't let her frame and mount it because she would have somehow made it fit. One of the most negative experiences I've ever had. I don't even enjoy the portrait because I'm reminded of the experience when I look at it.

Once he finished setting up the video equipment, he went to the site to start capturing the details--shots of my dress, my beautiful high heels, and jewelry. He was so detailed, trying to get different angles of the shots, which I really liked. I spent a lot of money on my dress and accessories, and I definitely wanted to capture them in my book. The ceremony was outside under the stage, and he guided us to the back area, which had more greenery, for our family and wedding party portraits. He was so funny and creative--everyone enjoyed his sense of humor. I believe he has a gift for making people feel comfortable and de-stressed. He even made my 85-year-old grandmother smile, which I hadn't seen in a long, long time. During the ceremony, he captured so many different shots, from wide angles to close-ups. He stayed close to us but kept enough distance so that the guests felt comfortable. I remember at my sister's wedding, her photographer stayed too close to everyone, and it felt awkward. As parents, family sessions can sometimes feel stressful especially with a large group, but Alex made the entire process effortless and fun. He was incredibly patient with our kids and captured such beautiful, candid moments that truly reflect our family's personality.
