The first day I got the salmon chowder (highly recommend) with a caesar side salad. I also got the turkey pot pie which had such a buttery, flakey crust. The sauce of the pot pie is heavy on black pepper but I didn't mind. The next morning I got an oat milk latte and a piece of strawberry rhubarb coffee cake which they heated up for me which was a nice touch and a good start to a day of hiking. The second night we went here for dinner even though we weren't staying here, and I got the meatloaf, chili, and brussel sprouts. All of the food was delicious, the meatloaf was a bit dry but the whipped potatoes were incredible. The brussel sprouts were also nice and crispy and delicious with goat cheese and bacon. Definitely recommend!

EXCELLENT FOOD: Terrible service:…read more I just want to start by saying the food was excellent. The kitchen absolutely did its job. The service, however, was terrible enough to have to make a review. Our server, Kat, acted like our table was an inconvenience from the moment we sat down. My sister was dining with her 1-year-old child, and when we asked for a high chair, Kat rolled her eyes, grabbed one, and dropped it off on the opposite side of the table from where the baby was actually sitting. No offer to help, no kindness, no basic courtesy. The attitude only got worse from there. Every time we needed something, we were met with eye rolls, annoyance, and the feeling that we were bothering her simply for asking her to do her job. We even noticed the same behavior toward other tables, so it clearly wasn't a one-time misunderstanding. When I ordered an iced latte, I asked what syrup options were available because there were no drink menus at our table. Instead of answering a completely reasonable question, Kat acted irritated that I dared to ask. Customers shouldn't be expected to magically know what you offer. I understand that everyone has bad days, but if you dislike interacting with guests this much, hospitality may not be the right industry for you. No customer should be made to feel unwelcome for asking for a high chair, ordering a drink, or requesting basic service. It's incredibly disappointing because the food was honestly amazing. But amazing food doesn't excuse rude service. There are too many restaurants serving great meals to spend my money somewhere I'm treated like an inconvenience. Good food gets people through the door once. Great hospitality is what keeps them coming back.

In short, I absolutely, positively, highly recommend Black Diamond Resort…read more I'm 70 years old, and my wife and I were looking for a "non-bus" adventure. We wanted to experience the true outdoor Alaska without the restrictions of paved roads and boring guided bus tour narratives. Well, if you're looking for the same, Black Diamond Resort may be for you. When booking our adventure, we had a choice of either a covered wagon ride, side-by-side atv, or quad. We chose the side-by-side since my wife didn't feel comfortable driving the quad by herself. We assume the covered wagon is for those who want more of a subtle experience. There were a total of five side-by-sides in our group with our guide, Jonathan, leading the caravan, and Michael, trailing our group. Without saying too much, because I don't want to ruin the surprises for you, Jonathan lead us through miles of back-wood Alaskan trails with brief stops once in a while. With each stop, Jonathan and Michael would offer history of the area and point out significant mountain peaks. We made a few unscheduled stops so Jonathan could point out moose and other wildlife. About half way through the over 2 hour adventure, we stopped at a cabin in the woods for our meal. We were warmly welcomed in by the kitchen staff, and our group took a seat together at a large picnic table; there was plenty of elbow room. Our meal was delicious and plentiful. I suggest coming to the table hungry. Did I say the meal was delicious? Well, it's worth saying twice. I don't want to say any more about our experience. I don't want to ruin the surprises that await your adventurous spirit. Just know this, I would give Black Diamond Resort 6 stars if I could. The entire staff was genuinely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

The guides were excellent, the food much better than expected and the tour itself was the best of all. It had just rained which made things extra fun! The only suggestion I would have and it minor, would be to clean the windshields of the machines prior to use. We could see through them, and got some fresh mud on then while touring, but it would've been nice to see clearly, at least for awhile, the beauty of the area where we were riding. I would 10/10 recommend...if we ever come back to the area this will be the first thing we sign up to do again!

This beautiful house-turned-restaurant offers guests an intimate dining option that is perfect for a sexy date- GORGEOUS views and atmosphere. The service is casual with a super fun / friendly vibe but you feel quite fancy being up there because the food is so nice! The bartender, Jared, is ready to make you a drink that you'll enjoy and and the kitchen staff is ON IT! So many locally sourced meats, seafood options, home-grown vegetables and herbs- this place should really charge more than it does. We enjoyed a gorgeous salted beef appetizer platter (with whole heads of roasted garlic- say no more!) as well as two beautiful specials and two AMAZING DESSERTS. Drank too many cocktails and wines but it was hard not to when Jared was whippin' up magic behind the bar... This was one of the few fine dining / high quality food experiences we've found in the Denali area and we LOVED it!! And we ate like fat kings for just a little over $100- I'm talkin like 3+ drinks each, appetizers, entrees AND 2 huge desserts- all totally house-made and worth every penny. Can't wait for a warm day to go hang out on their deck! THANK-YOU PERCH KITCHEN AND SERVING STAFF!! You were all amazing and such a TREAT! :)

On the first visit we sat at the bar to avoid the wait. Bartenders were friendly even though many were working their first day of the season. Ordered the cub size (12") Boreal Forest which is perfect for 2 people. Also had a few beers from their very long menu. Inside was cabin cozy. They also have outdoor seating. Overall, excellent experience! Boreal 5/5 stars. For our second visit, we needed a quick lunch between two excursions so we ordered pickup and tried the Homestead this time. Took 20 minutes from calling in to the pizza being ready which worked well. Homestead 4/5 stars, crust was still amazing but pizza felt like it needed something more. Very happy we found this place on our first day in Denali.

Average size for…read morethe price, good amount of cheese (almost too heavy personally) and pepperoni but fantastic crust. Super light, nice air bubbles and charred just enough but not burnt. Crust had nice structure/crumb and chew as well. Really solid overall and would definitely get it again. My few issues: -Saturday late afternoon/early evening I get it'll be busy but the front of house was just way unorganized and none of the staff seemed super helpful till I had actually ask someone where to place a to go order. I was literally standing in front of them and no one acknowledged me lol. It was also so cramped with people standing around everywhere for no reason it seemed. -We ordered to go as mentioned and they text you when your order is ready. Cool, not a problem. What they forgot to mention was you get a text as items on your order become ready. So you'll get your appetizers or whatever else that are quicker to make well before your actual pizza. Do you eat them hot in your car while waiting for the rest of your order? Or let them get cold and eat them when you get home later? Who does it that way?!? Absolutely ridiculous and so dumb. Have proper kitchen planning and make food so it all comes out hot and at once. -Just FYI, the ravioli appetizer for $16 came with 5 raviolis. Yeah you hear that right, only FIVE raviolis in an order for 16 bucks. That should be a crime and such a rip off. I expected at least 10 of them for that price. But hey, you get both marinara and pesto, so that's nice. -Last issue was when they brought my pizza, it didn't have my ranch's that I ordered and paid for. It took probably 5 minutes and the staff going back n forth 3 times saying someone must've taken them. It took a manager to get ranch's from the kitchen and bring them up front...Then tells the to go staff that the kitchen sent them with my ravioli that was sent half an hour earlier, which they didn't. Why was it so hard to get some ranch?! And I paid $50 for a pizza, appetizer and can of side, why would I lie about getting my extra sauce? Shouldn't have even been an issue for a dollar worth of ranch IMO.. I gave it a 3 star overall because the pizza was really good and would've given it a 4* on its own but everything else was a 2* as outlined above. Definitely things that could be improved upon at the end of the day, but they do make some really solid pizza.

I'm in a group of 5 that looked for lodging in Denali National Park back in mid-late July (and my…read moretrip was mid-late August), so nothing was available except Carlo Creek Cabins, and even most of their cabins were booked. We ended up getting Cabin 9, which is close to the office and therefore wifi, and Cabin A, which is quite far and has neither wifi, service, nor a private bathroom. The shared bathroom actually was clean and fine, but I hate how there's a light timer switch of 15 min maximum (I take 15-30 min showers when I wash my hair). Also, in the shower house I used closest to my room, only 1 of the 2 shower stalls had hot water. Another problem is the hours of the office and the shuttle (Denali Hostel & Cabins shuttle services Carlo Lodges, The Perch and Creekside which are extremely close by) don't really make sense with everything else going on in the park. For one, the Park Connection Motorcoach from Anchorage to Denali either arrives 12:30 pm or 8:30 pm. However, the Carlo Lodge Office is only open 8 to 11 am and 3 to 8 pm. When we arrived around 1 pm using their shuttle pickup, we literally had 2 hours of nothing to do there. We didn't have the wifi password at the time either. Second, some of the 8 am activities require you to be at Denali Cabins for pickup by 7 am. However, the shuttle itself arrives 7 am at Carlo Lodges. Lastly, they charge $20/person plus fees if you book online. For my group of 5, that means $106 each time ONE WAY to go anywhere. At least the restaurants nearby are pretty good. Creekside Cafe is the only one open every day from morning to night though lol.
