Good little 1st Ave watering hole for the Upper East Side. The bar was packed for Happy Hour yesterday afternoon since it was nice out. We sat outside in the covered hut. All the tables were a tad wobbly, but that was OK. The happy hour specials were pretty good. $6 domestic bottles, $7 Stella or Narragansett drafts, $10 wine, old fashion, Negroni, or margarita. 4-7pm Waitress service was pretty slow and hard to flag down. Happy hour was ending at 7, so at 6:35, I tried flagging her down or even just trying to find her. When it was 6:55, I just figured I'd go inside and order at the bar. She wasn't happy about it, but then again I wouldn't be happy if she made me buy beer at like $5 more each. read more

Hubby and I popped in here one night because we just happened to be in the area with time to kill. His coworkers were celebrating so we stopped by for a drink and to say hi. It was extremely packed and at the time I was not too comfortable but they had a little corner carved out with plenty of space for us. We sat for a bit, ordered drinks and some tots and then made out exit. I can only review my limited experience. Getting the servers attention was a chore but it was very busy. The tots were not that great but that's all we had from the menu. The drink I had was kind of sweet and not really my cup tea but I'm sure we would have had a better time if we had stayed longer and had a more comfortable set-up. I come to Sefton pretty often but I have never written a review because I think I take this place for granted. Excellent drinks, great service, good food. I have obviously not tasted "everything" on the menu but most things. My favorites are Hyde park, old fashioned, two to mango and when the smoke clears (although they have been out of some ingredients for the last one) For food, the rib tacos are really pretty awesome. Will start with the positives! The food and staff were great. No issues there. My first complaint is the size of the tables that they expect people to eat meals on. If they served just happy hour snacks it would be fine but for three people eating dinner we really didn't have enough room. Also, they only had raised tables, none chair-level so it wasn't super comfortable spot for dinner. My second complaint is we were there during happy hour and they discounted one of my husband's beers (HH promotion) but not the other. We paid with a card with one of those little hand-held devices so I didn't see a breakdown of the charges before paying. We didn't realize the error until after we left. Overall it was an okay place but not somewhere I would ever make a point of traveling to again. If we were in the neighborhood and just wanted drinks and an appetizer, it would be a great spot. The Sefton is definitely a new go-to spot for us!! We went for dinner and ordered the burger & the chicken sandwich. Both were delicious!! The chicken sandwich was open face which was different but it really worked. It was the most flavorful chicken sandwich I have ever had. I can't wait to come back and get it again! We also ordered two old fashioned cocktails. I got the specialty almond one with mezcal and it was unreal! I definitely recommend their specialty cocktails! The ambiance itself is pretty fun. It was loud (it's a bar on a Saturday night, so that is expected). But I liked the music they played and the tables were decently comfortable. The service wasn't anything spectacular, but was friendly and timely for it being more of a bar than a restaurant. It's hard to find places that have at least good food / good drinks / good prices. New bar / pub just opened last week. Feels a little like an "Irish Pub" but they are definitely aiming for a higher end feel with the decor and drinks menu. Plus an upscale cosy nook area in the back /side. Seems like a full gut renovation and lots of nice finishes. 1st Avenue has been lagging a bit after all the changes and new venues on 2nd, so this a a good upgrade, and adds a classier watering hole to this stretch. Although am a bit surprised the cocktails are $14 on 1st Ave... I guess NY is NY.. The Sefton is such an awesome addition to the upper east side. I've been here four times including for brunch, dinner, and just a couple drinks and have enjoyed it every time. They cocktails are delicious (get the Irish coffee at brunch) and they're often adding new and unique options to the menu.
