The restaurant is located inside La Placita Mercado, which added to the experience. I even got to put some of my Spanish skills to use while placing my order. It was definitely good practice! For the price, it was an excellent deal. I received two huge gorditas with rice and beans, and everything was delicious. The gorditas were perfectly crispy on the outside, while the fillings were generous and packed with flavor. Overall, this is a fantastic little hidden gem. Great food, generous portions, and excellent value. I'll definitely keep this spot on my radar whenever I'm back in the area!

When I went to order a smoothie and asked for two large ice waters, the employee stared at me with a dead glare and then finally just looked down and said "anything else?" (as if she was annoyed to give it to me) It was such an impersonal experience when I just wanted to buy something small and fill up my Hydroflask bottle. They clearly have gutted their refill option which now makes even getting water a hassle. Unless you want to buy a bottle of water or sit and wait for the "defunct" ordering counter they are clearly avoiding and pushing you to go the impersonal kiosk route, you're out of luck on decades-long basic options. If it's prevention of unhoused individuals ordering water cups and then fueling on paid beverages, that's a bummer and drives me to never go the McDonald's establishments in this area. Restrooms (which surprisingly weren't locked with a code), and the place generally, smelled like sewage.

I was trying to hand over cash, but my left arm currently has a bandage so I could not reach very well. I was doing my best to pass the money with my right hand, but she made no effort to meet me halfway or help at all. Because of that, a quarter slipped and dropped. I even offered to step out and pick it up, and she told me no. What really stood out was what happened next. After giving me my receipt, she dropped my dime behind it in a way that felt very intentional. It came across as passive aggressive and honestly disrespectful. At no point did she show any understanding or basic courtesy, even though it was obvious I was struggling to reach. It was a simple transaction that turned into a frustrating experience because of her attitude. Customer service should at the very least be respectful, and unfortunately that was not the case here.

The Saturday server is usually Norma and she always has a good attitude and smile and gets everything accomplished quickly and efficiently. Her ability to manage everything out front and staying in tune with all the customers is truly amazing. A worthy stop in Soledad.

While they were making our sandwiches, the portions were extremely small. For example, my grandfather's sandwich was given only about four pieces of onion. When he politely asked, "Can I please have a little more?" they added just one more slice. The bigger issue happened when my dad asked for a cup of water. The cashier, an older woman, pointed to a specific cup and indicated that it was the one to use for water. We filled it with only water, but when we checked out, they charged us for a drink cup anyway. We explained multiple times that the cup contained only water and reminded them that an employee had directed us to use that cup. We even showed them that it was just water, but they still insisted on charging us. I understand that language barriers can happen. My entire family are immigrants as well, and my grandparents don't speak much English, so this is not meant as criticism of anyone's language or accent. However, the communication was poor, and instead of listening when we tried to clarify the misunderstanding, the staff dismissed what we were saying. Overall, the customer service left us frustrated, and the experience was not what we expected. It's a cleanly spot for sure, and no complaints about the ambience.
