Though I have only eaten there once at their current location but have never eaten at their old location, I am going to give this place a 5 Star rating because I had really good service there. I ordered Country Fried Steak, with Red Skinned Potatoes and their homemade Sawmill Gravy on it. Of course, I ordered Corn as well. The quality of the food was amazing, very generous portion and served as hot as you would expect a home cooked meal to be served to you. For the price you pay you get a generous portion well worth every amount of what you paid for. I do not mind paying for food if the portion is enough to fill me up and the quality of the food matches the value of what you spent for it. Carlton Diner is that place for me and yes, I plan on going back again soon to try another of their menu items! The Diner used to be a Bank and I like the coziness of this place and I also like how they had saved the old Nostalgic look of the old Bank. Like the old Bank Safe is still there and I believe they had even kept the old Bank Light fixtures as well and that preserves the History of the Bank and the coziness of the Dining Area makes you feel at home as you savor the food and recall some old memories of the old Bank itself! We stopped here during a road trip down 70, and it was terrific. The service was super friendly, and sitting in a really cool retrofitted bank and vault provided a surprisingly cozy and moody experience. I enjoyed the omelette and hash browns, which were perfectly crispy. The boys really liked the pancakes, too, which tasted like they were made from scratch. My husband, who needs a lot of calories, got the Big Country Breakfast and was super impressed by the ton of food that arrived at the table. All around super enjoyable! read more

Between Cincinnati and DC I needed a break and stopped at the a small exit. As we pulled into town we asked a local where to have lunch, they immediately replied "Carlton, it's cheesecake Thursday!". So, who can pass up cheesecake Thursday???So we found it and took our seat. Small town diner with a home feel and friendly staff. The old vault was a neat quirky element of the town, and addition bar seating. The menu had lots of goodies but we chose a Cuban sandwich and Turkey Plate, followed by some great homemade cheesecake. Food was decent and the service was good although I think their menu prices are too high given it is basic food and it's kind of a hole in the wall place. I ordered a small plate burger which said it came with "1 smaller size side" so I ordered the tater tots then was charged an extra $1 for the tater tots even though they are not an up charge side and it was a smaller portion. If that is the case the menu should state what side it comes with and note an up charge for any other side. read more

We stopped by on a whim and I'm so glad that we did! We both loved it. It doesn't look like much from the outside but once you enter it's the cutest diner. It's all updated and clean inside. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. All of the employees were. It definitely has that hometown feel. The menu was pretty standard for a diner. They serve breakfast all day long. My boyfriend went with breakfast and got the ham with eggs and hash browns. He also threw in the waffles and and English muffin. Surprisingly he almost ate it all! He said it was delicious. I went with lunch and ordered a hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. An amazing gem right off of route 70 in Bentleyville, PA. There was a time when people were friendly and courteous, food came to the table hot and perfectly prepared. With all that has gone on in the last few years, I thought those days were gone until I walked into the Carlton Diner! The place was filled with local chatter, friendly courteous wait staff and the smell of heaven coming from the kitchen. The food lived up to the smell! Everything was perfectly prepared. If you are looking for great diner food, that kind of friendly ambiance( even though I am not a local I got the head nod " hello" from most of the locals as they passed my booth! Add to that the cook came out to greet everyone when he had a rare few seconds break! If you are in the area treat yourself to this place...it is enjoyable on so many levels...but come hungry! read more

This is going to span their old location (along I-70) and their new place in Bentleyville. Both visits were pre-COVID so you're on your own in terms of finding out if they're still open, adopting good practices, etc. So glad they moved to the new place. Much cleaner, nicer, and has a much better atmosphere. It's in an old bank building where you can actually eat inside the vault and one of the walls is covered in pennies! If you are eating in the vault and are with your kids, have them go to the wall and find a penny with the year they were born (it'll kill the time while you wait for your food). If another family is in there, I'd ask permission first (6 feet my friends,...6 feet). Cool, old rustic style lighting and I believe some of the tables may have been constructed of old coal cars (?); see the picture of the one table that has the word "BIN" stamped along the edge. We've had food at both places. I'm not sure the food from the old place made it to the menu at the new place. At the old place I've had the "stuff on toast",...some refer to it as (I'll keep it clean),...."[BLANK] on a Shingle." It was creamed chip beef over toast. I didn't care for it that much - didn't have a lot of flavor. On the other hand, also at the old place I had what I believe were walnut pancakes. My god were those delicious!!! At the new place, I had one of their breakfast specials. Three eggs, rye toast, chicken fried steak, and hash browns. It was good,...loved the chicken fried steak,...but I do remember the hash browns were laying in a puddle of grease. Tasty? Yes. Healthy? Umm,...how about 'no.' It was too much food for me; next time I'll order something smaller. The coffee was really good as well. Didn't taste like your standard Maxwell House swill. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and even took my question about the homemade tables to the owner/manager. Food came out fast, and the cashier and manager had no qualms about us using a certificate/coupon. Would we go back? You betcha - there's a whole list of other things we want to try. read more

Think truck stop meets family diner, and is really good. Staff is also very friendly. Came for breakfast and my wife got something I've never seen, apple fritter french toast. I ended up finishing because her meal came with a lot of food, home fries are great as well. At 930 am I got the traditional order,a tavern burger. Waitress said they normally start around 10 but she said because it wasn't busy it's no problem (I would have gotten big country breakfast if they said no I'm not a monster). Beer cheese on the burger was great, put the drippings over my fries. Overall good experience. Appearance may be off putting but it's very good for breakfast or lunch. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside considering it was a former bank but its beautiful on the inside! Being that we were a group of family members they seated us in the vault, but it's not what you think, one side is open with chairs on both sides. Ok so the Carlton diner was at a different location before moving to this place! Great move on their part! So the food is Fantastic with everything from Apple Fritter French Toast to Scraple to something called "Slop" (Delicious) to Sausage Gravy and Biscuits! They have a Great Breakfast Menu! I never visited before it closed, but it has reopened and it's a great diner. Eggs are cooked well. The sausage gravy is great. The biscuits aren't as good as the gravy. I had never eaten here prior to their move to Bentleyville. They took over Boomtown Grill's location (which was an absolute embarrassment) and I couldn't be happier. Our little town really needed some good food! We have eaten here for breakfast multiple times. Their servings are great (I have 2 growing boys and a husband that are bottomless pits), their prices are great, and their food is awesome! Tonight was the first time we ordered dinner from them. The battered fries were wonderful as was the chicken! My husband and daughter both got cheeseburgers and they really enjoyed them. I got their chicken bowl and I wasn't the biggest fan. Their mashed potatoes don't have much flavor. I had to replace the brown gravy with chicken gravy and it was delicious! The staff is always super friendly! If they are out of something and haven't had a chance to update they will immediately call to ask if you'd like to replace what they're out of or would like something different. The two times this has happened they are very apologetic and just as sweet as sweet can be! They also offer to help my husband carry our food to the car each time he goes to pick up! I took off a star because the last time we got breakfast the pancakes weren't cooked all the way through. However, we always have a massive order because we're a big family. This is truly the only issue we've had out of all the times we've ordered. read more

I loved this place so much before it closed and reopened. This is the first time we've been here since it was closed down. Our plans were changed last minute and I wanted food, plus my boyfriend has never been here and I hyped it up. We got here, there is apparently only one waitress. There were about 6 tables occupied and all the open tables were dirty. The server was loudly complaining to the cook about the person she relieved. She cleaned off a couple tables and told us to have our pick. She took our drink order and went back to complain to the cook for 5 minutes more. Then another girl came in and sat herself. She got her drinks before we did and she forgot what I wanted 10 minutes later. The food was just ok. My favorite breakfast go to is no longer my favorite breakfast go to. This place used to be great, packed, and had service with smiles with cheap grandma quality comfort breakfast food. But now it does not. read more

This is a neat little diner with amazing food, great service and a cool atmosphere. Formerly a bank, it is now a cozy restaurant. They even converted the vault into a breakfast bar with countertop service. We stopped in for a quick dinner prior to a hockey game in the area and it was wonderful. If it weren't for the reviews we definitely would have passed this place up based on the exterior . We are glad we stopped. We shared the Bear Claw Burger and The Traveler Burger. The Burger was small but seemed fresh and not a frozen patty. The pretzel roll was one of the best I have had . For dessert we took along some fresh baked cookies and were not disappointed. Service was super friendly and the interior was clean . I only gave it four stars because it seemed a little pricey based on the size of the Burger and the fact that it didn't come with any sides. read more

My GF and I have become regulars here favoring Wednesday's. The first time we was here was a Saturday and we brought her parents here once on a Sunday but Wednesday's is our day. The hours are a bit difficult for us cus of our schedules so that's why Wednesday's is our day it just work out with schedules. But it's definitely a good day cus it's wing night! The wing pieces sweet/hot are the best! The GF ALWAYS gets liver and onions never has she ordered anything else but of course she's tried stuff I got and like it a lot. The day we 1st went on a Saturday the very friendly waitress lady recommended the bear claw burger and I am pleasers with the recommendation as it's something I get often. Joe and Trish are great we see them the most often. Trish basically knows our order always bringing us our drinks over when she sees us come in and sit down. Always asking us if we need a menu or if we know what we are getting. They even will let you order to go. I did this on my way home from work once. I'm only giving four starts cus of the place being a lil run down looking but in some ways it's part of the charm here. Used to eat breakfast frequently at the Carlton before the original owner sold it. Stopped in to the new place for lunch recently. Waitress was friendly. Place was not busy, so we got a booth right away. Ordered a burger and fries. The food was delivered within a reasonable amount of time. Burger was made from a frozen patty. It was okay. I like the bun toasted a bit more than this one was. Fries were okay-again just seemed like a frozen fry. Portion sizes were decent. Prices seem appropriate for what you get. I'll stop in again at some point to see if they have the original Carlton's French toast. read more
