Hot Turkey Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes and gravy
    Julie B.

We stopped by on a whim and I'm so glad that we did! We both loved it. It doesn't look like much from the outside but once you enter it's the cutest diner. It's all updated and clean inside. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. All of the employees were. It definitely has that hometown feel. The menu was pretty standard for a diner. They serve breakfast all day long. My boyfriend went with breakfast and got the ham with eggs and hash browns. He also threw in the waffles and and English muffin. Surprisingly he almost ate it all! He said it was delicious. I went with lunch and ordered a hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was the best that I've ever had! I absolutely loved every bite. I'm so happy that we've found this wonderful spot and will definitely be back!

Very nice restaurant, with a huge menu selection. I had the Tuscan Omelette today, which was very good! Very friendly service, and fluffy pancakes - doesn't get better than that!

An amazing gem right off of route 70 in Bentleyville, PA. There was a time when people were friendly and courteous, food came to the table hot and perfectly prepared. With all that has gone on in the last few years, I thought those days were gone until I walked into the Carlton Diner! The place was filled with local chatter, friendly courteous wait staff and the smell of heaven coming from the kitchen. The food lived up to the smell! Everything was perfectly prepared. If you are looking for great diner food, that kind of friendly ambiance( even though I am not a local I got the head nod " hello" from most of the locals as they passed my booth! Add to that the cook came out to greet everyone when he had a rare few seconds break! If you are in the area treat yourself to this place...it is enjoyable on so many levels...but come hungry!

New location - "The Vault." Notice the pennies on the back wall.

This is going to span their old location (along I-70) and their new place in Bentleyville. Both visits were pre-COVID so you're on your own in terms of finding out if they're still open, adopting good practices, etc. So glad they moved to the new place. Much cleaner, nicer, and has a much better atmosphere. It's in an old bank building where you can actually eat inside the vault and one of the walls is covered in pennies! If you are eating in the vault and are with your kids, have them go to the wall and find a penny with the year they were born (it'll kill the time while you wait for your food). If another family is in there, I'd ask permission first (6 feet my friends,...6 feet). Cool, old rustic style lighting and I believe some of the tables may have been constructed of old coal cars (?); see the picture of the one table that has the word "BIN" stamped along the edge. We've had food at both places. I'm not sure the food from the old place made it to the menu at the new place. At the old place I've had the "stuff on toast",...some refer to it as (I'll keep it clean),...."[BLANK] on a Shingle." It was creamed chip beef over toast. I didn't care for it that much - didn't have a lot of flavor. On the other hand, also at the old place I had what I believe were walnut pancakes. My god were those delicious!!! At the new place, I had one of their breakfast specials. Three eggs, rye toast, chicken fried steak, and hash browns. It was good,...loved the chicken fried steak,...but I do remember the hash browns were laying in a puddle of grease. Tasty? Yes. Healthy? Umm,...how about 'no.' It was too much food for me; next time I'll order something smaller. The coffee was really good as well. Didn't taste like your standard Maxwell House swill. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and even took my question about the homemade tables to the owner/manager. Food came out fast, and the cashier and manager had no qualms about us using a certificate/coupon. Would we go back? You betcha - there's a whole list of other things we want to try.

    Apple fritter french toast 1/2

Think truck stop meets family diner, and is really good. Staff is also very friendly. Came for breakfast and my wife got something I've never seen, apple fritter french toast. I ended up finishing because her meal came with a lot of food, home fries are great as well. At 930 am I got the traditional order,a tavern burger. Waitress said they normally start around 10 but she said because it wasn't busy it's no problem (I would have gotten big country breakfast if they said no I'm not a monster). Beer cheese on the burger was great, put the drippings over my fries. Overall good experience. Appearance may be off putting but it's very good for breakfast or lunch.

Doesn't look like much from the outside considering it was a former bank but its beautiful on the inside! Being that we were a group of family members they seated us in the vault, but it's not what you think, one side is open with chairs on both sides. Ok so the Carlton diner was at a different location before moving to this place! Great move on their part! So the food is Fantastic with everything from Apple Fritter French Toast to Scraple to something called "Slop" (Delicious) to Sausage Gravy and Biscuits! They have a Great Breakfast Menu! Can't wait to go back to try a burger or other sandwich or one of their Dinner options! Make sure you stop by the Carlton Diner, you'll thank me, I guarantee you'll love it!

I ordered the gyro omelet with extra feta and onions and wheat toast, and when I tell you it was INCREDIBLE, I'm not exaggerating. This has officially become my favorite omelet of all time. I don't even want another omelet unless it's THIS one. It was perfectly seasoned, packed with flavor, and every bite just kept getting better. I was seriously considering ordering a second one before I even finished the first. We also had the pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The pancakes were so fluffy they practically floated off the plate, with amazing flavor that didn't even need syrup (okay... I still used syrup ). The bacon was perfectly crispy, the eggs were cooked just right, and of course, they had cheese because breakfast without cheese is just a suggestion. To top it all off, the service was outstanding. Our food came out in about 20 minutes, everyone was friendly, and everything was fresh and hot. Fair warning: if you eat that gyro omelet, every other omelet afterward is going to disappoint you. I honestly can't wait to go back... and it might be sooner than my waistline would prefer. P.S. I forgot to take picture... my mouth and stomach were the photographers

The staff couldn't be friendlier; they make you feel like a regular even if it's your first time walking in. Even if you're just stopping by for a quick coffee, it's worth it. MY FAVORITE BREAKFAST IN PITTSBURGH/THE STATE/AND 2ND OF ALL TIME…read more Everything here was fucking perfect and it was just all staple diner food in the best version possible. Absolutely nothing crazy (minus the French toast) that is just NAILED. And THE PRICES are so awesome The Hot Mess. Massive, loaded and delicious. That's not an omelette either.. that's their scrambled eggs loaded with potatoes and smothered it their insane sausage gravy. The biscuits with it. Right out the oven fresh, so soft, not dry in the slightest and honestly didn't even need anything on it. The corned beef hash was probably the best I've had. I never had it was such a great crisp/crunch to it. That is my new standard for corned beef hash The pancakes. The best in Pittsburgh and my top 3-5 of all time. I hate the hotcake style which you see in Pittsburgh MINUS the crisp with it. But I don't want that throughout the entire thing, I still want my fluff. This delivered that PERFECTLY. Great crisp on just the edges and the fluff in the middle. Absolutely perfect THE BOSTON CREME FRENCH TOAST. My second favorite breakfast item I've gotten in Pittsburgh. You will rarely see me get French Toast unless it's recommended a decent bit or just looks nuts. THIS is my favorite French toast I've had and I hate Boston Creme 90% of the time. It always gets too overfilled, and too sweet of a custard. NOT HERE. The chocolate topping was perfect, not just a basic syrup people buy at the store that is so overpowering. Can 1000% tell homemade. The custard had the perfect amount of sweet ratio for amount they give Warning it's small inside with minimal seating and you will have to wait. I drove 50 for it and waited 35 for a table. I would drive 2 hours and wait another 2. I will be returning numerous times ESPECIALLY when they have the Bear Claw Pancake Special
