If you ask a local they'll tell you to try the Garbage plate which despite the name is delicious! My most recent visit for breakfast I was with a party of five. The service was quick and friendly. The food felt homemade. My kids had French toast, waffles, and bacon which was a hit. The other meals in the party were good as well. There is a large parking area so you can always find a spot. So, been here many times in the past but the owner raised his prices 'due to egg prices' apparently (which are now down). We ordered oatmeal with toast and extra toast, two coffees, a western omelet ($15) and a piece of pie. Our bill was $36! For breakfast. Won't be back. Never got the chance to eat. After being told to sit anywhere, I sat at a visible booth. They're apparently short-staffed since they have help wanted signs up for a waitress. However as myself (and a person at another table were waiting for initial service) with no waitresses in sight, a large party of 8 walked in and sat down. As they were seating themselves, two waitresses emerged to ask that party what they'd like to drink. It's unacceptable how long it took for any waitresses to appear and then for both to run to this party, ignoring the rest of the patrons in the restaurant. I wanted to give it a chance, since I prefer to support small businesses. It has that typical small, family-owned diner look with booths around the edge and tables in the middle. It's tucked behind a motel. However, I refuse to spend money at a place where I'm ignored. I understand being short-staffed and busy on a Saturday morning, but 15 minutes waiting is unacceptable, especially when the waitresses ran to the large party. In spite of traveling Route 119 south frequently, Husband and I had no idea this place was here. It sits next door and behind a motel. It looks as if it was built to go along with the motel back in the 1960s. We were taking an older family member out for the day and he knew about it and wanted to have breakfast here. The morning we stopped in, it was very busy with a lot of local patrons. Parking lot was full Typical hearty diner food served by friendly waitresses. This is a local hole in the wall place. The food is excellent. They only serve breakfast and lunch. Meals are large so if you don't eat a lot order a half of your meal. Finally returned this past week and were disturbed to find Trump posters & pictures adorning the walls. We found this gem of a restaurant on our way to see Kentuk Knob. This place is the definition of a typical diner. They have a counter with stools, a check out area with the clear plexiglass counter and a floor packed with tables that are full of local advertisements. We were there on a Sunday morning and it was PACKED. Even though every single table was full, the service was speedy and efficient. The menu is huge for such a small place. A crazy amount of options were available for breakfast alone. It was almost overwhelming because there were so many choices. I went with the garbage plate and my husband had biscuits and gravy. Portion sizes were large and everything was tasty. We both ate for under $20. A great value! The downsides are that they are cash only and when they are super packed, it is extremely loud and it can take a while to get things like refills on coffee or water. If I'm in the area again, I will likely stop for another meal. read more

Sat Feb. 23rd 2019 was our first time to Ed's Diner. My wife took me there for my birthday breakfast. It was a great present. The place always looks busy when we go by and I have been wanting to try it. So glad we went there, as always they were busy. We walked in and were greeted and told to seat our selves where we could find a table. We sat at one of the smaller tables but the seats were not the most comfortable for us, so after we placed our order we moved to another table with chairs. Much better. All the staff was very attentive and friendly. Our waitress took the time to answer our questions and was very nice. Our coffee cups were kept full. The food was good, hot and tasty. I had the pancake omelet, my wife had the garbage plate. Will will definitely be returning here again. Highly recommended! read more

My never-ending quest for the ultimate diner experience in Fayette county appears to maybe actually be never-ending. We ate breakfast here on a Sunday and it took almost an hour and a half to get our food. The place was stuffed to the gills, but it was difficult to even get a coffee refill. Once the food came, it wasn't terrible, but it certainly was not worth the wait. The staff was friendly, but too disorganized to really pay much attention beyond taking our order and delivering our food an hour and a half later. My wife and I might have just hit this place on an off day, but we won't be giving them another chance. Very good food. I had the Amish Plate, everything was hot and fresh more then plentiful. My son had the waffle with blueberries and it took up the whole plate. The only complaint I have was the staff, not very good. Had to ask for coffee and drink refills all the time for a table of 6 and after our food came the waitress was not seen again. This place is horrible. We stayed at the hotel next door with some friends for a few days and went there for breakfast twice. The first time they served me a mushroom Swiss omelet that was oozing with grease and nothing inside. My wife's scrambled eggs were no different and it too the waitress 3 time to get me the right toast. Our friends food was just as bad. Second day I figure I get eggs sunny side up, how bad can that be, right? Wrong! The eggs were over cooked to the point the were no runny yolk was left. My wife and I were looking for breakfast today near Connellsville and were lucky to find Ed's. I have driven past this place a 100 times and always thought I should stop in. Based on what I saw on Yelp we tried it this morning and it was very good. The food came out hot and done perfectly and the service was great. If you enjoy hometown diners with good homemade food NOT average chain restaurants, this is the place for you. My wife and I travel from Morgantown to Greensburg on route 119 quite often. We travel past this diner and there are always lots of vehicles parked there. This is usually a good indication of a great location. My wife and I both ordered the garbage plate and were not disappointed. More food than we could eat. Both had breakfast and coffee and it came to less than $19.00. Everybody was friendly, staff and patrons, which made me want to come back many times. My wife and I are going to make this our new spot and can't wait to try many other breakfast and lunch items. read more

THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!!!!! My fiancé and I have a 20 minutes drive to Ed's and we go all the time. I have always gotten breakfast food but have never once had anything I don't like. All the staff is incredibly polite and they're constantly walking around with coffee so it's always topped off and hot! The items are relatively inexpensive and always tasty. The only "downfall" would be that they only serve breakfast and lunch so you have to get there before 2!! read more

this is my favorite breakfast spot in this area. we ate here everyday and also had the same server. if it was open later, i would go here for dinner too. reasons's to go here... 1- great food 2-great prices 3-friendly staff 4-super clean restaurant i had a different meal everyday except for lima bean soup. i had that everyday. potato cake, buckwheat pancakes, fried steak/gravy and eggs over easy. bacon and ham were the best breakfast meats. and chocolate cake was delicious. i'm from philly which is a foody city and this is a must go for foodies out there. read more

Walking in, the place was packed. The norm seemed to be sitting at a table that still had plates on it from the last patrons. On top of being invited to sit at a dirty table, the menus were sticky which was also a turnoff. My coffee needed to be refilled for over 3 minutes and the service did seem disorganized. Our food took forever and it wasn't anything special. Personally I don't think my wife or myself will ever be attending this place again. read more

ok, you have to be used to fayette county to really be able to appreciate ed's diner. if you've never been to a hometown-dive-diner before, you may be a little turned off... cash only, a blinding menu, and at times quite a long wait for a folding table that you have to share with strangers. but the food speaks for itself. let me elaborate. so when you walk into ed's (especially during breakfast/brunch time on the weekends) you're going to walk into one busy restaurant. it's all seat yourself, so when someone gets up, you jump on that table... don't wait for it to be cleaned off, or you'll be waiting a while. the tables are some booths, some long folding tables, so the long ones, you'll inevitably end up sitting on one end with strangers on the other. once you sit down, the servers are pretty quick to come by, clean off the table, and get your drink orders. so next, you open the menu. i'm pretty sure "ed" discovered how to highlight and change fonts in microsoft word and just went nuts. each item is a different color and there's virtually no spacing, so the menu is pretty hard to read. i've personally never gotten anything except the garbage plate, so i usually don't even bother reading it. (especially if i'm hungover.. it just gives me a headache.) but, did i mention the garbage plate? holy king of the breakfasts. there are a few versions of the garbage plate... original, chili, hot, etc. i've personally tried original and chili and prefer original but i'm sure they're all good. the garbage plate is basically an omelet/casserole with fried potatoes, cheese, meat, onions, and gravy. the plate is huge but i end up stuffing myself with it every time. it's the perfect hangover food too, by the way. the food does take a long time to come out, but the servers are attentive and quick, and trust me the wait is worth it. everything is pretty cheap, but like i said, cash only, and no there's no atm if you've forgotten your cash. oh and just one more tip, be careful pulling into the parking lot, it's needed repaved probably since before i was born and everyone just kind of parks where they want to, so just be cautious if you don't want a flat tire. ok i lied, one more one more tip. they do have free wifi, but last time someone asked for the password, none of the servers could remember it. so if you're pretty good with guessing passwords based on the clue they gave us ("something with the word hotdog, i think) maybe you can crack the code, otherwise, i wouldn't bother. read more

This is a small town diner that must pride itself on being low budget. The food was tasty, but average. The service was fine, but nothing outstanding. The biggest complaints I have are the dining atmosphere and parking. The parking lot is deplorable...gigantic holes and ruts everywhere. The building looks nice on the outside but feels cheap once you walk in (plastic movable tables) and small booths. The prices are reasonable for the food quality but don't think that, in the year 2012, you'll be able to use a debit card. Cash only for whatever backwards reason. I'm typing the review on a new-fangled contraption called an iPad...so I'd suggest at the very least, getting a debit card system/machine set up. read more
