My waitress Charged my credit card $1,200 for a tip instead of $12. This establishment seems to cater to a large amount of elderly who probably never catch this mishap that the owner states "happens often". *note that the response to my review is not the owner and is very defensive with not even an apology. My food/drink bill was $53. I paid credit card. Statement showed Food charged separate from $12 tip in two separate transactions on my card. I ate there at 2p. They close at 3 PM. I noticed at 11pm that night. When I called the next day at 12pm, the owner, Sam, stated "not possible bc the drawer balanced out the night before". I explained that was impossible. I have worked at many restaurants and a mistake that egregious shows up immediately. He stated the waitress accidentally typed in "a few extra zeros", noticed it, then cleared the mistake and retyped in the proper amount which was $12. Sam then stated that the $1200 must have been the amount to go through to the credit card instead of the corrected amount that she submitted. . Again that's impossible because if that was the case then my credit card would have charged the $1200 PLUS another charge for the corrected $12. I did not have that on my statement. He did not like my argument. In fact i had a $53 charge. And a separate $1200 charge with no $12 (tip) charged at all. He said very methodically, " oh don't worry this happens often at my restaurant" and then said , "but dont worry because it always remedies itself and the charge falls off of the credit card AND THEN the credit card replaces the dropped off incorrect amount with the proper amount". Yeah, I'm sure it does correct itself --the remedy comes in when the customer finds it then the manager fixes it. But if the customer DOESNT find it then it stays in the owner /employee pocket. there was no apology, no verbiage of how he would remedy it moving forward with other costumers. This is concerning. he was dismissive stating it was not a big deal. The bigger issue is that ....HAD I NOT LOOKED AT MY CREDIT CARD I WIULD HAVE EATEN THAT AMOUNT OF $1200. How many elderly are being scammed????? If you eat here, make sure to pay cash. As soon as I called out their scam , the next day the $1200 was removed from my credit card and so was the $53 charge. I then found a new charge of $65. I feel bad for the elderly that are in there and possibly getting scammed without knowing. TO ALL THE SENIORS WHO GO here -CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS OR PAY WITH CASH. . This is a well-established diner - it's been around for over 50 years at this point. And since it's as old and well known as it is, that means it's popular. So the larger your group is, the harder it will be for you to get a table. Parking can get tricky too. My own gaggle of friends has learned to carpool, and we accept that we won't always be seated directly together. Like any good diner, Dog House's menu has plenty of breakfast options, along with burgers and sandwiches. The menu is simple but solid, and the prices are reasonable. The French toast is my bestie's favorite, and I can confirm that their burgers and Belgian waffle are also quite good. Most recently I ordered the Chicken & Waffles; it was tasty, but I admittedly wish it came with more syrup. Also wouldn't have been upset if it came with one more tender since they were on the smaller side. The staff are very nice and they clearly work as quickly as possible. Of course, their speed is always dependent on how busy the diner is overall. I'll echo other reviewers saying that if you go in expecting to eat at a small town diner, you won't be disappointed. Passing through town and saw this cute diner. We sat at the counter and struck up conversations with the owner, Sam, and our retired teacher turned waitress. Super friendly and comfy place! If I lived in the area, this would be my favorite breakfast spot! My partner had the Eggs Benedict and I had the corned beef hash and eggs with hash browns extra crispy. He loved his breakfast! I'm a sucker for corned beef hash even straight from the can. Cook made the hash extra crispy on the flat top. Delicious! Can't say enough about how sweet this place is!!! read more

It's a small town diner. If you go in with those expectations you know what you are getting. I ordered the Superman combo and it was exactly as advertised nothing more nothing less. The eggs were cooked to my liking. The bacon was the best part. The perfect balance of crispy and flow and thickness. I am spoiled. I often have breakfast/brunch at The Original Pancake House in Mount Lebanon: it is the gold standard to which few places measure up. Dog House Diner is okay. The building is nothing to look at. The place is nondescript, no ambience, although there are some interesting photos of old Washington, Pennsylvania. Booths are small and the person on one side is very close to those on the other. At the Original Pancake House, the booths can comfortably seat at least six if not eight: it is spacious. Our meals at Dog House Diner were satisfactory and the prices are fair. The service was friendly and efficient. Hours are a convenient 5 AM to 3 PM and that is seven days a week, a rarity in this business. None in my party of three is dying to return. read more

I LOVE Doghouse Diner! I love diners in general, and Doghouse is truly one of the best in Washington. The prices are ridiculously cheap and it's all high quality home made food! You MUST order one of the daily soups. All home made and full of flavor. The beef barley is probably their best. Between my husband and I, we've ordered breakfast, sandwiches, dinner, and dessert during our many visits and never had a bad meal. Ok...so I love supporting diners rather than the "chain restaurants", especially for breakfast; however, I came here once before when they were newer and everyone was raving about it! I was extremely disappointed then, the staff, the food everything just plain awful. I heard they are now under new ownership, so I figured, ok one more shot...now I know they were busy (or so it seemed) right before we got there, but it was a mess. Sat at a booth that was clean, but quickly realized we weren't going to be able to stay there because there was a side door that people were using more than the main entrance. Moved to the only other clean booth, only to be asked to move by the busboy because the ceiling was leaking (and I won't be surprised if it falls in while we are here!) I said as politely as I could that we may end up just leaving because I wasn't going to sit next to the door and that was the only other booth opened. He quickly wiped down another booth as I waited for my mother to come out of the bathroom. Moving on to sitting down and ordering our drinks (mind you, I was more than ready to leave at this point)...my mom orders a decaf coffee & I a water. Our drinks came out extremely quick, and my mom's coffee smelled awful, like burnt, been on the burner too long because she may be the only one drinking decaf! The waitress, asked if we were ready to order...I hadn't even had a chance to open my menu! My mom attempted to drink her coffee and I suggested that she just order a hot tea, which she did when another waitress passed our table and almost poured regular coffee into an already full mug! When our waitress came back to get our order, I let her know that we switched out my mom's drink because the coffee was so awful...not a care in the world. (Mind you her smelly, burnt coffee remained on our table until we left!) Ok...food was good (I'll post pics too.) I ordered the Farmers Market omelet well done (no onions) with Italian toast and my mom ordered the "special" 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries & Italian toast...no she wasn't going to be able to eat that all lol! (We took home the toast & sausage!) I ended up getting home fries, which I looked at the plate a tad odd and the waitress was like, is everything ok...and I said that I didn't realize the omelette's came with home fries (and I don't normally don't order them because most places make them with onions.) So she said oh...is that a problem, and I said no, just surprising, if they don't have onions, I should be fine (I'm not allergic, the smell/taste just turns me off.) She said, well I won't charge you for them!!!! Well thank you for not charging me for something I didn't order LMAO!! ‍‍ Overall...never coming back to this place...I truly feel bad for the waitresses, because I feel it's not completely all their fault. First off the food was ok. The service was a bit slow but understandable due to the waitress being by herself with quite a few tables. The BIG concern is...Covid 19. They have a sign on both doors mandating everyone that enters wears a mask. I found few following those guidelines. Went to the Doghouse Diner for the first time yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised. We were a party of 5, with my elderly father in a wheel chair. The server was very kind and accommodating as was the owner. The food is good, I ordered a bacon and cheese omelet. My dad ordered liver and onions, it was a generous portion of liver, mashed potatoes, and gravy. It smelled just like my mom used to make, not that I enjoy liver, but if you do, this is the place to get it. The iced tea was homemade and very good. The desserts look very good. It was clean. I've been going to the doghouse since I moved to washington almost 20 yrs ago. Once I had my son, he and i have made it our little special weekend place for breakfast, once or twice a month. The waitstaff have become part of our "family" and we look forward to seeing them every time we go. The food has been 99% of the time perfect and always delicious, generous in portion, not to mention easy on the wallet. I've seen a few reviews with bad ratings, and as someone who frequents this establishment regularly, let me tell you, it's rare we've had a bad experience and it's usually for some reason outside of their control. Try the Italian breakfast- for just $5.99 you get two eggs, potato, Italian toast and two big links of Italian sausage smothered in a sweet tomato sauce. I've also had the corned beef hash, which is tasty and a big portion. Sooner or later, I'm going up come back for lunch- they have meatloaf, pot roast, sandwiches and lots of other diner food.
