Really nice staff. Good restaurant with a good menu. Kind of a hike if you don't live nearby amd I was out of town. Greens fees were in line with the course conditions. A bit rough on the tee boxes amd greens but overall a pleasant day of golf and an attentive Cart Girl

Wow... I've played a lot of cheap courses in my day, but I've never experienced anything as ugly and poorly maintained as this excuse of a course. Please look at the pictures and the dirt patches described by the pro shop as "fairways", further saying they looked a little rough. "Rough" doesn't describe 85% dirt and 15% uncut weeds (not even grass). Cart genuinely felt like it was going to fall apart, and the roof wasn't bolted in. Entire experience was terrible, and we even stopped on hole 13 because we lost our balls in literal dirt piles. We couldn't tell the difference between the fairways and bunkers, and that's not even a joke. Save your money, please please please PLAY ELSEWHERE. I've seen Cottonwood & Mission Trails in very bad shape, and this course doesn't even translate to that. Maybe they're shutting down, I wouldn't be surprised. Would pay the $40 to never play here again honestly. 0/5 stars LOOK AT PICTURES!

Gopher Oaks, I grew up in east county and remembered when this course was prestigious, sad to see the decline. Not sure how they justify the green fees, even in the summer time grass is scarce. The way I view this course is an everyday greens keeper revenge, if you're looking to test what it's like to score well on a shitty course, Carlton Oaks holds the cards

We wanted to sit and enjoy the beautiful golf course over breakfast and we're so glad we did! We had the pancakes with crispy chicken and it was delicious with coffee. The staff was so friendly and we enjoyed watching the golfers too. Lovely golf course, beautiful trees, and landscaping. We explored the patio, and it would be a nice place to invite friends for a lovely time.

I couldn't even wait until I was done playing to leave a terrible review, this is the absolute worst course I've ever played. It looks like they haven't watered the course in a year. This place looks like Baghdad Iraq. Feels like you're playing in a construction zone. Took us 3.5 hours to play 9 holes. Course was also $80. Do not come here unless it's for free.

This course is just down the street from me so I visit often. I am new to golf and I feel that this course is challenging yet still playable. The course is maintained well enough that I only lose balls because of my awful swing, and not because I lost it in the fairway. The greens roll well and they have a good pin rotation so divots have adequate time to recover. The ground keepers are always hard at work and I thank them for giving me the best chance to bring my score down. There is a driving range to get some practice shots in. I haven't visited it in a while, but it wasn't the prettiest range I've seen. However if you just need to hit some balls in an empty field, there are some mats, plastic tees , and a ball vending machine that accepts NFC payments waiting for you! The only time I've had a problem with a person was another golfer throwing a tantrum on hole 10. The staff, from the pro shop, course Marshall, groundskeepers, and snack cart attendant, have always been kind and welcoming. I always look forward to playing golf here! P.S. I guess one downside is that tee times are only 9 min apart. So if it gets busy, it really backs up. I'd call or check online ahead of time!

I love this course. I'm out here weekly. Great staff always friendly with the nicest cart girls. Condition is always pretty top notch. Only complaint I have is the drainage isn't the best after heavy rain. But we live in San Diego so I mean not many places do any better. Great course I'll be there this week. I'll drop below some course photos. The greens are always in prime condition. The Bunkers do need some love it's never soft. But there will be a redesign in the future with the housing and course redesign sometime in the future. I may try to snag up one of the places.

Me and my friend decided to book tee times at a new course that we haven't played before the last minute and found this course. Booking was easy online and was a decent price (especially for it being the weekend). Once we arrived parking was decent and the putting green and pro shop area looked great. Especially the resturaunt area has a great view overlooking the course. Once we started the course was in good condition and the layout was a little challenging but over all the course was open. The cart girl was seen throughout the day (as it should be) and the pace was steady (even if the group in front were chunking the balls). The over all experience was great and the layout was good. Will definitely try the course out again in the future.

You truly enter a little vortex, where everything you could need is on-site and within walking distance. The outside world seems to fade as you walk through the entrance doors. We celebrated a birthday as a couple where we indulged in a one night stay, in the King suite, enjoying the amenities exclusive to hotel guests. We dined at the restaurant, ordered poolside foods & drinks, sat by the bar, soaked in all the bathing areas, and enjoyed the little nooks to lounge. We stayed on a Sunday night and felt we had spaciousness from other guests and privacy to fully relax. Absolutely recommend visiting for an overnight stay as the exclusivity of hotel specific areas is a must to experience. The rooms are also gorgeous and minimalist by nature. The comfort of the bed and clean linens after a day of soaking topped it all! Truly had one of the best nights of sleep and wanted to do it all over again when we rose. As mineral spring connoisseurs, we were impressed by the cleanliness and purity of the waters. Truly healing on every level!! Maintenance staff actively were testing temperature, ensuring the waters remained comfortable and well-kept. Staff overall were helpful and kind. The restaurant menu was diverse and fitting for the setting--hitting the spot with flares of Mexican cuisine. The touches of healthfulness on the menu were appreciated. The pozole soup was warming and a highlight for visiting during the Winer season. Lastly, I can't forget to nod the eclectic and cozy bar, where we enjoyed live music and appetizers before our main sitting. The decor, bites and hospitality took us to another time and place. We intend to visit this hidden gem seasonally as it absolutely nourished and transformed our spirit! & Shoutout to Julie who made our stay unforgettable.

Even on a nice Saturday afternoon during brunch hours, it wasn't too crowded or busy at all. We mostly stayed in the tasting room then went in the member's lounge for bit before taking a walk outside. It's pretty spacious, attracting more of a mature older crowd, if that's your thing. The staff we encountered were all enthusiastic. They even had a taco guy there near the member's lounge which was great- they had a mushroom taco for my veggie people and a cheese quesadilla for the vegetarians. While I had a good time, I'm not sure I'd ever come back here. It wasn't bad, just nothing compelling me to come back-especially since I'm not a drinker, just came to explore with some friends. I'm particularly looking for the winery with the best brunch menu and an interesting crowd of people, which I didn't find here. If you enjoy wine, good scenery and a somewhat lokey spot where you can get out, yet, still have some space to yourself and escape the crowds, this is probably the winery for you.

This is for the Spa…read more.. The spa opens at 7 AM and there I was. I came in through the gates of the gated community and parked in the self parking lot at the spa. Waited in front for five minutes and the doors opened! I felt like putting my face against the window while I waited and say, "open, open, open". I was greeted by a lovely young woman who checked me in and walked me around the grounds to show me around. As I came so early, I had the place to myself for the first two hours. I used the gym, took a swim, went in a couple of Jacuzzis until my girlfriends arrived at 9:30 AM. I'm more of an introvert, so it was perfect. Altogether, we took a yoga class at the beautiful yoga pavilion. We sat by the pool and had a lovely lunch. The food was excellent, including the complementary treats and banana bread. The only negative about the pool was that we were told if we left for more than 20 minutes our belongings would be removed. We couldn't hold our chairs for the day. That was news to us. It was a warm 90° day on a Friday in March and the community and hotel is allowed to use the spa grounds and they all showed up. Every lounge chair was full. Note to self: come Monday through Thursday. The massage: I'm going to say it's one of the best massages I've ever had in my life (and I've been to other five star spas). Pure bliss. Jackie was my masseuse. She listened to me when I asked for stronger pressure and then from there, I went into another world of goodness. She had such love in her eyes when it was all done. This is the most expensive massage I've ever had in my life. Around $400 for a 60 minute massage (with tax and tip) not including lunch. But treating ourselves once in a while is worth it. We felt like we were princesses. Yes, we'll be back. Maybe a while from now to save up our pennies, but we will be back.

Beautiful Grounds, But Not the Five-Star Experience I Expected…read moreI visited Rancho Valencia on my birthday expecting a true five-star experience, and while there were genuinely lovely moments, the overall visit fell short of what a resort at this level should deliver. A few things worth knowing before you book: they do not offer a day pass. Access to the resort is granted by booking a service through their spa, which is fine in principle. What's not fine is their pricing transparency. The rates listed on their website are not what you'll actually pay. Pricing changes based on demand, time of day, and availability. I received two different booking confirmations for the same treatment at two different prices, neither of which matched what was on their site. When I asked at check-in, they explained their dynamic pricing model casually, as if it were common knowledge. It isn't, and it should be disclosed at the time of scheduling. No one mentioned it when I called to book. The check-in staff was cordial, but the energy made it clear they were sizing me up. It was subtle and perhaps unintentional, but noticeable enough to color the start of my day. The property itself is genuinely beautiful. Lush grounds, a cold plunge, multiple pools, and access to yoga and fitness classes throughout the day. The yoga class I attended was listed as intermediate to moderate, but the instructor, who normally teaches the advanced class, ran it at a moderate to advanced pace. I was the only person in the room at the intermediate level and spent more of the class struggling than unwinding. The food and beverage program is what you'd expect at a resort of this caliber. When I booked my massage, I specifically requested champagne for my birthday. It was noted. It was never offered, not before my treatment, not during, and not after. That kind of detail is exactly what separates a five-star experience from a four-star one, and it was simply forgotten. My massage therapist was outstanding. She was thorough, skilled, and clearly excellent at her craft. She identified tension I didn't even know I was carrying and worked through it with real intention. She was the highlight of the day without question. Rancho Valencia is a stunning property that has the bones of an exceptional experience. But the lack of pricing transparency, the inconsistent service details, and the atmosphere at check-in kept it from living up to its reputation. I'm not sure I'd return.

We had most of the upstairs space available for the kids including a large and airy ballroom, and adjacent rooms with spectacular views of the bay where we could sit outside on a balcony. There was food offered for the kids including veggie crudites, mini pizzas, chicken fingers and a huge array of desserts (churros, cookies, brownies, etc.) The space is large and inviting, and tropical in theme. Very on brand for San Diego and it feels like you are on vacation when you enter this space. Some of the decor seems dated and was giving "Golden Girls vibes", but because the location and everything else is solid, it does not really take away from the overall experience. The service, from the bartenders who were making mocktails for everyone to the servers who were keeping the food restocked and clearing away used dishes, was very attentive and present. They were cool, calm, and collected in the midst of kids doing very "kids" type things... hacky sack in the hallway anyone? There were several managers present throughout our Prom as well. They were attentive, and helpful. The kids seemed to have a great time, and so did the adults. The hotel itself is in a vibrant and very exciting location. You're on the bay, and across the street is the ocean. There are plenty of eateries and activities within walking distance, and this is the perfect location for a beachy stay or function. Due to these perks, this property is on the pricey side though, so keep that in mind. Mahalo!

(Ever heard of a Bloody Mary bar? Same concept.) Don't be fooled in 2027... there was no mimosa bar. Only 1 complimentary glass of champagne or mimosa (with a choice of just 2 juices) provided by hard to find wait staff was included with the brunch. At the price we paid, you would think that bottomless mimosas would be included - at a minimum for the moms. We had to go to a cash bar for consistent self-service. 3 stars for the food - 1 star for the bait & switch.
