Really nice staff. Good restaurant with a good menu. Kind of a hike if you don't live nearby amd I was out of town. Greens fees were in line with the course conditions. A bit rough on the tee boxes amd greens but overall a pleasant day of golf and an attentive Cart Girl

Wow... I've played a lot of cheap courses in my day, but I've never experienced anything as ugly and poorly maintained as this excuse of a course. Please look at the pictures and the dirt patches described by the pro shop as "fairways", further saying they looked a little rough. "Rough" doesn't describe 85% dirt and 15% uncut weeds (not even grass). Cart genuinely felt like it was going to fall apart, and the roof wasn't bolted in. Entire experience was terrible, and we even stopped on hole 13 because we lost our balls in literal dirt piles. We couldn't tell the difference between the fairways and bunkers, and that's not even a joke. Save your money, please please please PLAY ELSEWHERE. I've seen Cottonwood & Mission Trails in very bad shape, and this course doesn't even translate to that. Maybe they're shutting down, I wouldn't be surprised. Would pay the $40 to never play here again honestly. 0/5 stars LOOK AT PICTURES!

Gopher Oaks, I grew up in east county and remembered when this course was prestigious, sad to see the decline. Not sure how they justify the green fees, even in the summer time grass is scarce. The way I view this course is an everyday greens keeper revenge, if you're looking to test what it's like to score well on a shitty course, Carlton Oaks holds the cards

We wanted to sit and enjoy the beautiful golf course over breakfast and we're so glad we did! We had the pancakes with crispy chicken and it was delicious with coffee. The staff was so friendly and we enjoyed watching the golfers too. Lovely golf course, beautiful trees, and landscaping. We explored the patio, and it would be a nice place to invite friends for a lovely time.

I couldn't even wait until I was done playing to leave a terrible review, this is the absolute worst course I've ever played. It looks like they haven't watered the course in a year. This place looks like Baghdad Iraq. Feels like you're playing in a construction zone. Took us 3.5 hours to play 9 holes. Course was also $80. Do not come here unless it's for free.

This course is just down the street from me so I visit often. I am new to golf and I feel that this course is challenging yet still playable. The course is maintained well enough that I only lose balls because of my awful swing, and not because I lost it in the fairway. The greens roll well and they have a good pin rotation so divots have adequate time to recover. The ground keepers are always hard at work and I thank them for giving me the best chance to bring my score down. There is a driving range to get some practice shots in. I haven't visited it in a while, but it wasn't the prettiest range I've seen. However if you just need to hit some balls in an empty field, there are some mats, plastic tees , and a ball vending machine that accepts NFC payments waiting for you! The only time I've had a problem with a person was another golfer throwing a tantrum on hole 10. The staff, from the pro shop, course Marshall, groundskeepers, and snack cart attendant, have always been kind and welcoming. I always look forward to playing golf here! P.S. I guess one downside is that tee times are only 9 min apart. So if it gets busy, it really backs up. I'd call or check online ahead of time!

I love this course. I'm out here weekly. Great staff always friendly with the nicest cart girls. Condition is always pretty top notch. Only complaint I have is the drainage isn't the best after heavy rain. But we live in San Diego so I mean not many places do any better. Great course I'll be there this week. I'll drop below some course photos. The greens are always in prime condition. The Bunkers do need some love it's never soft. But there will be a redesign in the future with the housing and course redesign sometime in the future. I may try to snag up one of the places.

You truly enter a little vortex, where everything you could need is on-site and within walking distance. The outside world seems to fade as you walk through the entrance doors. We celebrated a birthday as a couple where we indulged in a one night stay, in the King suite, enjoying the amenities exclusive to hotel guests. We dined at the restaurant, ordered poolside foods & drinks, sat by the bar, soaked in all the bathing areas, and enjoyed the little nooks to lounge. We stayed on a Sunday night and felt we had spaciousness from other guests and privacy to fully relax. Absolutely recommend visiting for an overnight stay as the exclusivity of hotel specific areas is a must to experience. The rooms are also gorgeous and minimalist by nature. The comfort of the bed and clean linens after a day of soaking topped it all! Truly had one of the best nights of sleep and wanted to do it all over again when we rose. As mineral spring connoisseurs, we were impressed by the cleanliness and purity of the waters. Truly healing on every level!! Maintenance staff actively were testing temperature, ensuring the waters remained comfortable and well-kept. Staff overall were helpful and kind. The restaurant menu was diverse and fitting for the setting--hitting the spot with flares of Mexican cuisine. The touches of healthfulness on the menu were appreciated. The pozole soup was warming and a highlight for visiting during the Winer season. Lastly, I can't forget to nod the eclectic and cozy bar, where we enjoyed live music and appetizers before our main sitting. The decor, bites and hospitality took us to another time and place. We intend to visit this hidden gem seasonally as it absolutely nourished and transformed our spirit! & Shoutout to Julie who made our stay unforgettable.

This is for the Spa…read more.. The spa opens at 7 AM and there I was. I came in through the gates of the gated community and parked in the self parking lot at the spa. Waited in front for five minutes and the doors opened! I felt like putting my face against the window while I waited and say, "open, open, open". I was greeted by a lovely young woman who checked me in and walked me around the grounds to show me around. As I came so early, I had the place to myself for the first two hours. I used the gym, took a swim, went in a couple of Jacuzzis until my girlfriends arrived at 9:30 AM. I'm more of an introvert, so it was perfect. Altogether, we took a yoga class at the beautiful yoga pavilion. We sat by the pool and had a lovely lunch. The food was excellent, including the complementary treats and banana bread. The only negative about the pool was that we were told if we left for more than 20 minutes our belongings would be removed. We couldn't hold our chairs for the day. That was news to us. It was a warm 90° day on a Friday in March and the community and hotel is allowed to use the spa grounds and they all showed up. Every lounge chair was full. Note to self: come Monday through Thursday. The massage: I'm going to say it's one of the best massages I've ever had in my life (and I've been to other five star spas). Pure bliss. Jackie was my masseuse. She listened to me when I asked for stronger pressure and then from there, I went into another world of goodness. She had such love in her eyes when it was all done. This is the most expensive massage I've ever had in my life. Around $400 for a 60 minute massage (with tax and tip) not including lunch. But treating ourselves once in a while is worth it. We felt like we were princesses. Yes, we'll be back. Maybe a while from now to save up our pennies, but we will be back.

Depending on my energy level, I will sometimes take a yoga class prior to my massage. If this review were solely for the Spa, it would be hands down a 5 star! However, it is also for the restaurant by the pool where most of us go post-treatment for lunch. Yesterday I had Lila, & as soon as I put in my order, she had asked if I were staying there & since I was not a hotel guest, she asked me upfront for my card on file. Typically when I have gone there for lunch, they wait until the end to charge you out and/or assist you with the bill. It felt a bit off, considering that after I sat down, another Caucasian lady and her daughter found a spot to sit near me. Alex was their server, & as he took the order, he didn't ask if they were hotel guests &/or if he could put their card on file. Later I happened to walk by the bar area where the servers hang out, & I asked to speak with Lila. I let her know I have been coming here for years & no one has ever asked for me to give them my card on file upfront. I asked her if they have had a few Dine n' Dash situations? She let me know she has been there under a year but she has been asking for cards b/c some people think their food is taken care of when they leave the pool & then check out for their treatments. As a result, they are out of tips and can't go after the customers. I told her it is disappointing to hear that at such a nice place at Rancho Valencia that people would do such a thing. Even if people are coming for the first time, most humans would ask what is the best way to charge out and work it out with the waiter and/or when I have been there, the waiter or waitress will ask if I need anything else, and if not, then they will bring me the check (or I tell them hey I am ready to cash out). I had just had a fabulous massage with Noel (who is my new favorite therapist there) so to have this awkward experience when I am ready to eat and relax by the pool was really not great. To be fair, there are regulars who go there, but it was clear that she didn't recognize me & so decided to ask me upfront for my card. Whereas Alex another server, helping customers next to me, didn't ask the Caucasian lady for her card upfront. And what is so funny is that when the Caucasian lady got her food, the order was all wrong - they put dressing in her salad, put tofu on the side, and put bacon in her salad when she asked for bacon to be taken out etc. Alex was super apologetic for the mix-up in the kitchen, and the whole time I kept thinking, I wished he were my server because he was so nice and treated the lady next to me the way I have always been treated -when I have come here. Lila was more defensive and kept saying "Oh we ask for cards here and you can speak to my manager etc." I didn't come out and ask why there was a disparity from how she asked for my card upfront versus how other servers just took orders like a normal restaurant and then let guests relax and pay at the end. I still love this SPA and will come to get a treatment, but the inequality I felt from being asked for my card upfront was a subtle jab that made my overall experience not as pleasant.

We had to speak with someone, and eventually they did give us a room, but we thought it was odd that they didn't already have a room ready past check-in time. The floating river is a nice touch to this hotel, but the way they didn't explain the details to us of how to get into the pool area without wristbands at check-in was also really annoying. The event couldn't have gone more smoothly. Our service captain, Sandro, was equally outstanding. He was attentive throughout the celebration, quickly handled every request, and ensured everything stayed on track. We've attended many events over the years, and this was one of the smoothest and best-managed we've experienced. Our hotel stay was also excellent (but not perfect). The Catamaran offers so many activities that you could easily spend several days without ever leaving the property. Be sure to check the resort's website before your visit so you don't miss everything available, including the luau, yoga classes, bike rentals, kayaks, boat rentals (though no jet skis), and evening bonfires. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would simply be to continue enhancing the guest experience in the few small areas that keep this resort from being absolutely perfect. Even so, we had a wonderful stay and an unforgettable celebration. We would gladly return and highly recommend the Catamaran for both a relaxing vacation and a special event. During our stay our party had 8 hotel rooms. We loved lounging by the pool, on the grassy area and the sand. We rented a hobi a few times and kayaks. Although on 2 occasions at Oceana restaurant we waited for our food longer than usual and the Java shop could move a little quicker. The food was great but some dishes could be better. But staff were great from the hostess's to the servers. My big let down they were out of the BAYSIDE BUNDT CAKE again. Almost every single employee we encounter and we met a lot in 4 days were sincerly nice and professional. Shout out to Zach and Thomas our bell hop guys. Our room was well kept, but I wish they had house slippers since our room was by the water I felt the rug was always moist. The bottles in the shower didn't work properly and caulking around the toilet can be made better. Weird comment but it wasn't perfect. The mattresses weren't the great either. One person moves the other felt it like a water bed. I called for an extra blanket but didn't realize there were spares in drawers. Room to me I'd rate a 4. SUPER DOG FRIENDLY! TOPS

The employee simply said, "That's common here," as if it were completely normal. Instead of offering a meaningful solution, they handed me a new toothbrush because a roach had crawled all over mine. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the front desk, whose response to a serious cleanliness issue fell far short of what I expected. The furniture is falling apart and the floor is stained. The cleanliness of this place is unfortunately subpar. There were random rags just laying around for some reason, and no one picked them up (so I did). Very disappointing for the amount of money I spent...
