After only 2 lessons, I was already hitting the range by myself and actually hitting them pretty decent! On top of it all, Paul is FUNNY and knowledgeable. He is great all the way around! I contacted Paul at Carlton Oaks in January 2022 and have taken 6 sessions with him since then. He is an amazing teacher. He will take what you have and incremently improve your swing. The course itself is a bit short and quirky, with several hills. If a ball slices or hooks too far, it often ends up on bare dirt. The fairways are nice and reasonably well maintained, and the greens are in good condition. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The ranger (or player assistant) was not particularly helpful, especially since the pace of play was somewhat slow throughout the day. One major caveat is that the golf carts are quite old. One cart bumped into ours due to an apparent brake malfunction. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Next day, we are waiting for him on the first tee box. Friend arrives with his son and no equipment and tells us no he's not allowed to bring his on the course, he needs to be 5 years old (even when we called to make sure it was okay). My friend woke up at 4am to get himself and his son ready just to get turned away at the shop. Now I am not assuming anything, but my friend over the phone sounds like a white man, but he's African American. Again did NOT want to assume anything, but the more questions I asked with different staff members, I just kept getting different answers about why his son wouldn't be able to come on. Up until I ran into another group and they had an experience with their African American friend (turned away because he didn't have his shirt tucked in). I'll be honest, 2026, we don't need this. Do better mission trails.

He said I was leaving a lot of power on the table and showed me how to utilize my wrists better. After the lesson I hit 15-20 balls and it finally clicked. The next day I went out on the course and hit my 7-iron consistently 10% further than I did 25 years ago. All of my clubs hit 20-25% further the next day on the course. He showed me how to feel the swing in 2 minutes with one of his props and it changed my game for years to come.
