Warning! Bad Customer Service!! I wanted to sell my car after buying a new car and made an appointment at this location at 4:30 pm. I arrived early around 3:45pm and went to the front desk to check in. The employee at the counter confirmed my appointment and told me I was checked in and that I would receive a phone call when they were ready for me. I went to the waiting room and waited and waited. Finally I went to the desk at 5:00pm to ask how much longer only to find that I had never actually been checked in, despite what I had been told. There was a whole process, 2 forms and giving them the car key to actually be checked in. Had I not gone to the desk to check I would have been waiting indefinitely for a phone call that never would have come. Absolutely terrible customer service. Thankfully with help from a kind employee Travis and a considerate manager, the rest of the process was expedited as quickly as possible as possible. read more

CarMax is so great! Right now during the pandemic, they will buy your car for an excellent price or you can trade it in for an excellent price. I bought my Jeep GC in 2019 for 30k. I sold it to them yesterday for 29k. Amazing! I then got a different vehicle from CarMax that I like better. CarMax has an amazing bumper-to-bumper extended warranty program (5 years/150,000 miles) that I, hopefully, won't have to use but feel great having just in case. I am stoked about my new ride; it's so nice! Gio was such a great salesman, too. He was friendly, explained everything thoroughly, and there was no pressure. He also went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable and everything was timely. I was in-and-out in about 2.5 hours which isn't too bad for a dealership (appraisal, test drive, options, and financing). Everything is so organized here and there is no haggling; you pay the price tag. I kinda felt like a cow being moved from process to process lol, but it was good because everything was timely, organized/systematic, and transparent. CarMax requires you finance with them at first (they offered me a very low APR) and then you have 3-days to change it to another financer (if you wish) without penalty. Once you are ready to drive off in your new car, they can take a picture of you with your new car and a CarMax bow/ribbon- so cute for social media! When I arrived at 5:50pm on Thursday 5/20/21 I was told they have stopped excepting purchases for the day. The business office guys words, "We can't take any more cars in, we'll be here past midnight as it is". He then stated I could just go to another location. Well that's not an option and I'm still a bit stunned that my experience with CarMax ended on that note. So instead of selling my car to CarMax I ended up taking less at dealer across the street. Just so I didn't have to drive all the way to Buena Park since I live in the South Bay. (now that I had 2 cars in Buena Park). Not sure if it's on me for not calling ahead, or if maybe I just got a lazy associate. Either way I've sold two cars to CarMax in the past. I've tried calling under the 90 day warranty but the service department does not answer calls nor do they return voicemails. I had to call the business office for a gentleman to be completely rude and tell me I'm not within the 90 days for them to fix my car. Wow! I couldn't get a hold of them that's why. The entire process for them to check out the car and provide a value amount took over one hour and a half on a busy, drizzly weekend. I called the service department 3 times and left a message as instructed by the answering machine. No call back.. So I'll start by saying I'm a fan of CarMax. You pay extra to not haggle and deal with typical annoying car salesmen. It's a trade off but in most cases a worthwhile one. That being said, this particular CarMax is one I will never return to. Expect poor service, long wait times regardless of an appointment, and an abundance of employees hanging around playing on their phones but not able to answer questions. I ended up leaving after waiting for over 3 hrs after being quoted an hour wait. But the beauty of CarMax is you can always have your car shipped to another location. The Irvine CarMax has been much better to deal with in terms of staff and wait times. Bumpy but great experience overall... Bought a Hyundai. Salesman Vitus Pinto was great. But the bumper of the car had been scratched while in the lot. I was promised they would fix it when I purchased it. The first fix was not good; looked like white-out was applied to my bumper. I complained and they went out of their way to rectify the situation. They sent it out to a vendor to repaint the bumper. They gave me a Lyft home. They gave me a temporary loaner car. Marcelo and Taryn in the Parts dept. were very kind; even finally washing the car and refilling it with gas! They made me feel very important. Did a great job making it right. read more

I really don't understand why there is absolutely no regard for time. Letting us know it will be 45 minutes instead waiting for over an hour then they say we will call you when we are ready so you can come back. We leave and get a call to come back everything's ready to trade the car. Come back only to be told it will be a few minutes. And I am currently still waiting 45 minutes later. I personally did not have a great experience, one they did not disclose the tear in the leather driver seat. Two: the wind shield wipers were torn. . So I then after loosing my trust and attempting to talk to me as these conditions are normal wear and tear for a 3 year old car, I took it to the bmw dealership and found there was a Recall pending from a year ago. . Breaks needed to be changed, engine mount is cracked. . Control arms screws are cracked. . So what 150 point inspection was really done? So definitely take your cars to the dealership after purchasing so you can go ahead and take back and get your monies back if they do not fix those issues. . We waited for over 2 hours and was given an appraisal so we decided to sell but the lady said it was late so they were not taking in anymore cars. My husband came back today Monday before 3pm, thinking it would be less time since they checked and did the test drive the day before. Well it's been well over 3 hours and we are still here. We have lost almost 6 hours in 2 days trying to sell his car. How much time do they think people have? Complete and utter waste of my time. Made an appointment to sell a car for 6:30pm on Friday night and had my online appraisal as well as all of my documents in hand. When we got here, we gave them the keys to look over and they said to come back in 30-40 min. When we got back, they confirmed our appraisal but said that they had stopped accepting cars for the night and to come back the next morning. What is the point of making an appointment if you're going to stop accepting cars?! The next morning, we came in at 9 and when we got to the counter, we were told that it would take about 3-4 hours to process the paper work and to come back later. We had to run errands so we came back at 8pm and were told it would be a 30 min wait and the wait is over an hour to sign the fucking papers. I was told by the manager that they use "Autocheck" instead of Carfax (who 99% of the industry uses) and since their service said there's no damage, then that's what they go by. But the repairs were starting to get expensive. Little annoying things were happening - like not being able to go in reverse on a regular basis. My visit was from June-ish. Sat in my drafts: I went on Saturday. Dan was a bit condescending when i asked for help. Initially I told him I didn't want to be helped just yet and wanted to look around. I just don't like to be followed around. He said no problem just call me when you see something. When I called him he was irritated or whatever. He said "ohhh, you're the one that said she didn't need help right?" His tone was annoying. He was a little smirky since check in. He also made reference to "low income program people taking up all the hybrids." Then he was like oh, sorry are you coming from there too? " Something about the way he addressed it as if it was a bad thing. I didn't come from the program but I think he was insinuating that it was "those people." I dunno just didn't like. No one should address anyone like that no matter what. If you don't like your job or talking to people getting a different one buddy. I'm writing this as I sit in the service lounge for the third time. Simply put, Carmax is a scam and their service employees will destroy your car. Here's what I've had to deal with: I initially came in to deal with a tire pressure light that wouldn't turn off, despite there being no leakage or problem. I left the first time with it reported as being fixed. I also left with an odd scraping sound when I'd drive over speed bumps, into my driveway, or when I'd go over a certain speed on the highway and the car would bounce on uneven parts. Mind you, this WAS NOT happening BEFORE I brought it in. I get home and look under my car to find a metal grid hanging down. That would explain the scraping sound. I must note that I drive like a grandpa and I'm the only one who drives my car. In addition to that, the tire pressure light came back on only a few hours after getting home. Needless to say, I'm livid at this point. I go in to have them look at the tire pressure light AGAIN and tell them about the dragging metal grid. After another wasted two hours, I was told the grid had detached due to impact. The guy helping me asked if I'd hit a speed bump too fast or pulled in too far into a parking spot, neither of which I'd done, especially while sitting in the service lounge. That's when it all becomes clear: the first time they "fixed" the light, someone drove my car for about 8 miles to make sure it wouldn't turn back on. They did it again the second time as well. Reason led me to believe the damage came from whoever drove my car. There's no way whatever happened to the undercarriage was my fault. I was fuming. I know I hadn't done any of the things they said that could've detached the piece. It had to be whoever drove my car. I call and speak to the service manager and tell him what happened. After a few hours, he calls me back and offers to have the broken undercarriage reattached free of charge or they can order a new one, which I would have to pay for, and they'd have it replaced without me having to pay for labor. I don't see why I should have to pay for a replacement when I'm not the one who broke it in the first place. I opted for the first offer, even though I think it's unfair and a deflection of accountability or responsibility. Stay far away from Carmax. The convenience isn't worth the hassle. My advice is to save your money for a decent down payment, go to a dealership, and stay the hell away from Carmax. They're overpriced and they don't care about you or what happens to your vehicle while in their hands. read more

Once I brought my car in for a Bluetooth installation. They told me it would take 4 hours, so i waited at the nearby mall. When i received a call from them, i expected my car to be ready, nope, they told me the guy never showed up. I was furious! The uber driver picked me up and took me back and i demanded to speak to the manager. It never happened because they said they were all at a meeting. All they did was reschedule my appointment that day. I recently dealt with a manager at this location over another issue i had with them, (but thats another story) he was cold, uncaring, and made me cry. This Buena Park location where i got my car, i dont recommend. I feel they are unorganized and unprofessional. I never felt so overlooked and disappointed by a place of business. read more

Again the process was painless and streamlined , from the test drive to the interview questions to the signing of the papers with Jacqueline. Who was kind and patient she explained every sheet that we had to sign. Both Don and Jacqueline were professional and proficient which we have come to expect from Car Max.
