The only problem I have with this store is the exhaust fumes throughout the inside of the building. I was there two separate days and both days the inside space was nasty with exhaust. I don't know how the employees can stand it. I left with a headache and feeling sick to my stomach. Can you imagine breathing that stuff all day every day? And what health problems it could cause? My experience with carmax was great with their customer service, the goy who helped me was great, paperwork was straightforward. We were in and out within couple hrs. Best cur buying experience ever comparing to a traditional dealer who would haggle all day long to get a penny out of your pocket. So now the important fact, customer service is crucial, but remember i am not buying your service only, i am byuing your product and living with it. So quality of the product is more important than service here. I bought a 2007 VW Passat and I had problem with its sensor within a week. I returned the vehicle to fix it. They said it would take a day to fix it. But it had been a week they still couldn't figure out what was wrong, but they weren't giving me a concrete answer either. They said they sent the vehicle across the street to other local area macanic who works on their cars when their service dept is overloaded. I was like really!! So you dont know who is working on your car. Everyday they kept pushing the delivery day. Then few days later they asked me to get another car same model and year within similar mileage. I said ok and got a different car and was ok with everything else. Guess what happened!! this time the gas fill cap sensor kept saying its open even it was closed. AnD yes within the very first week. I had to return the car this time. I lost money amd time. CAUTION: their 160 or 80 point inspection is BS. They buy the car from auction and detail them and sell them as is with basic exterior fix. But they charge you premium for their quick service and huge collection. So do your research before you jump about the car first. read more

Bought a car--things went fine. Service, not so much. I've had the car for two months now and it's been in the shop twice, once for 9 days and again for the same problem they "fixed" the first time for 10 days. The issue was the brake power booster and master cylinder. Does this really take 19 days to figure out? Additionally, every (and I do mean every) time I call, I'm on hold for more than 15 minutes. Do NOT purchase a vehicle from here. They do not stand by their extended warranty. And do nothing to check the condition of the vehicle before they sell it besides a single oil change. They do not check prior maintenance or even carfax to verify the maintenance. Purchased a 2015 Cadillac SRX in 2018 with 17,000 miles on it. We have performed all maintenance as per the manufacturer. The engine has sludged up due to lack of maintenance before we bought it that we were unaware of. We even purchased their extended warranty and were told it has a manufacturer warranty also. The lack of maintenance before we purchased it has voided the manufacturer warranty, and CarMax's extended warranty will not cover it because of the manufacturer warranty it is supposed to have. It's amazing that a company cannot stand by the products they sell and treat their customers this way. The unprofessionalism and lies spewed by the personnel here is ridiculous. So. I purchased a car from Carmax in Matthews, NC 9 years ago and was extremely pleased with the process and the reliability of the car. In all these years my car has been in the shop twice. Once when I first bought it due to the sunroof not working and the other time 5 years later to replace a water pump. Needless to say I was very confident in purchasing a second car from Carmax. That is until, I purchased it from Carmax in Laurel. The car was for my son in college and he needed something reliable to get back and forth to school. He decided on a 2013 Dodge Dart and I went and co-signed for him on this car in November of 2016 and also purchased their extended service plan (thank God!). One week later as he went back to NC, his back up camera and screen stopped working. He took it to the service center and it was there for a few days while they fixed it. They provided a loaner to him so I was fine. A few months later he kept hearing noises so he took it back and they found something wrong with his wheel bearings. After a day in the shop he got his car back. A week later, the same noise so he took it back and it was the wheel bearing...again which meant another day in the shop. Fast forward a few months he notices his trunk popping open randomly. At first he thought he was hitting it accidentally somehow until one day after going to class, he walked out and his trunk was wide open and all his items stolen. Laptop, books, shoes. He was devastated. He took the car to Carmax and they determined it was an electrical issue with the key and they had to send it to dodge to get it fixed. It was there for 2 weeks. Since then it has been in the shop 11 more times. Last month, in addition to his car note, we had to pay over $700 in fees to get it repaired on 2 separate occasions and this was even with the so-called extended service plan. I called Carmax to speak with the GM about these issues and after 4 messages which started on March 14th, i have yet to hear from him. I also called the service advisor Debbie on March 15th and questioned how this car could be in the shop so many times over the course of 26 months. I said there was no way that this car could have had any type of 125 point inspection if it had all these issues that ranged from electrical to sensors to bearings back to electrical. Because it was a Friday, she said she would call me back on Monday after reviewing the service history with her service manager. Monday came and no call, so I called her and left a message. By the end of the day while my sons car was (you guessed it!) in the shop, I contacted Carmax customer service online. To this day NO RESPONSE. I left another message for Debbie in March 25th. She finally called back and said there really wasn't much she could do but she was having a meeting with the GM on Wednesday and she would recommend to him that they give me a favorable appraisal for me to turn the car in and she would call me after the meeting. Guess what? NO CALL YET. I would literally be in a grave rolling around before anyone from Carmax calls back. The customer service is horrible and I understand now that the reason service is ALWAYS backed up is because they sell crap cars and people are constantly having to take them back to get fixed. Listen people, there are too many options out here for you to have to settle for third rate service and crap cars. Save yourself the headache and lost money and go somewhere else. Just traded in my sons car and got him a brand new Altima. I will never again patronize nor recommend Carmax to anyone. read more

I bought my first car from this location around 99 when they first opened and got a great car for a great price with excellent customer service. This weekend (over Christmas) I traveled from out of state for a test drive, liked it and said I'd buy the car. Keith, then proceeded to pepper me with questions; are you trading in your car, no, who drove you here, no one, are you going to take the car come back and take the car you came in? At the end of the series of questions, he told me they don't deliver. However, that was my original plan and thus my trip alone out of state, based on what a different associate at that location in Laural told me the previous week that they do in fact deliver cars. They even have an associate at that location dedicated to that function, or at least that was what I was told prior to Christmas. Then Keith conceded, oh yes you can transfer it to another carmax and complete the purchase there. Which I knew. But he didn't know that. And was trying to force me to buy the car there that day. When I told him I wanted to transfer it, he told me to "CALL THE 800 NUMBER". I had previously spent twenty minutes with various operators trying to get in touch with the Easton PA location, and never accomplished what I was trying to do with regard to a transfer. Keep in mind this is my third go at this. The first car, they damaged and said they couldn't sell me, then the second car I picked (in Easton mind you) no one got back to me after the car was delivered, so I went for this car which suited my needs better. After I told Keith about some of the challenges I had with the 800 number, he repeated "CALL THE 800 NUMBER." When I asked for a manager he initially refused, saying at first no one was there, and then that they can't help with that, and then within ninety seconds got the manager who came over and said, incredibly, exactly what Keith had. I told him he could call the 800 number if he wanted, and if he could get through and make this happen great, but I don't have a half hour to spend on the phone and not get anything done. He said if you want the car that's what you have to do, and I said no thanks and left, prepared to just leave it at that never mention the events or Carmax again. However, when I got to my car and was putting my hotel in the GPS yet another skilled associate at this location sat on my car to take pictures of a car in an adjacent parking space. So I tooted the horn. He continued to sit on my car. So I held the horn down. Still didn't move, didn't flinch, didn't move at all, almost as though he was expecting me to honk at him. He then walked over the driver window and said "I wasn't doing anything." Note he didn't say sorry or why are you honking or anything that would indicate it was accidental. I said, "You were sitting on my car." He then proceeded to snicker and laugh. I honestly thought I was in a comedy sketch. I LOVE my car! The experience at Carmax was utterly horrific. I was told to only bring my paystub which I requested from my office manager prior to arriving and my DL. Let's first start with the fact I told my job I was leaving work early for something that had nothing to do with a car. I arrived at Carmax with my stubs and my DL. I was told they needed to see original bank statements to prove the amount on my stub was being deposited. Ok! Where tf did they think I was going to get them. They asked me about online banking. For starters, I have TD bank and I KNOW there is someone else out there that had the WORST trouble setting up online banking. Customer Service kept sending a temp password and the ish never worked so I eventually gave up and just called and entered my cc number to obtain my balance. Ok back to my horror story...I told the guy I thought we confirmed all of this prior to me showing up. I thought I was doing perfectly fine with my stubs and ID. Of course Carmax wanted more info. They wouldn't accept me getting on the phone with my daughter who was at home with the option grabbing a bank statement out of my drawer and emailing it to me. I just didn't get it. I went home and came all the way back up there bc these "people" needed the original statement. I won't even begin to try and understand why a copy of the original was unacceptable. Moving on...I came back with docs in hand and I was then told my down payment was about $700 more than what was originally agreed upon 2 wks ago when I had my car shipped. Boy oh boy did I love my '18 maxima sl. This had to be real love for me to put up wit the bs as long as I did! The business office did whatever they did to fix the down payment issue. I was flabbergasted. Anywho, after all the drama I finally left 2 hrs later a free woman. I'm driving my car and about 5 days later I hear a ridiculous knocking noise when braking. Well it's like a cranking noise that starts the min I brake and stops the min I come to a complete stop. Then a few days afterward my radio just randomly started switching stations and my map gave itself a destination to travel. OMG I'm heartbroken bc this has been the most regretful decision ever made. So recently I got into a horrible accident that totaled my car, I was devastated, my budget for a new car was super low and all the other dealers in the area were trying to sell me cars that were either over my budget or a little concerning. I was at a loss until a few friends recommended me CarMax. I browsed their website not expecting to find anything good until a little 2009 Nissan caught my eye. I didn't keep my expectations high, however, because the other dealers also had cars that APPEARED to be in my budget, but when I called or walked in they added in those fees only to show how expensive they REALLY were (something to expect of course, but still frustrating). So I decided to call in and see if I could get a more accurate quote on that Nissan. I got referred to a man named Jeffery and told him my story, that I was looking for a car that was within my budget (no exceptions) and was not expecting anything flashy or with a lot of bells and whistles. Jeffery mentioned that car I saw online, I asked him if he could give me the quote with the mandatory fees and if it was still under my budget. He said yes and asked if I would like to see the car and take it for a test drive, I said yes! So with my uncle (who has a lot of experience in cars), we went down that same day. Jeffery in person was absolutely approachable and straight forward with the car. He showed me the inner workings of the car and let me take it for a test drive, afterwards Jeffery stepped inside to allow my uncle and I to check out the car in private and without eyes glancing over our shoulders, we popped the hood, checked the tires, tested out the inner workings, I fell in love with the car. It wasn't anything fancy and it was showing its age, but according to online reviews of the car it could last forever if taken care of properly. But I didn't want anything fancy, I wanted something reliable and that's what this car was. Throughout the purchasing process, Jeffery was very accommodating, approachable, and informative. There's always that stigma of a woman not feeling comfortable going to a car dealer and feeling taken advantage of, but I never got that here. My uncle also felt confident in the car as well and recommended it easily. It was even within my budget to get one of CarMax's extended warranties that would give me full protection over the mechanical and electrical parts for an extra 50,000 miles should they fail! The purchasing process was also super fast and very easy, I had to wait a few days before coming back to purchase the car, but Jeffery easily put the car on hold for me. He even said that I could utilize that particular CarMax's use of being a drop off for Enterprise Rental cars as I was using one at the time, no need to drop off the car at Enterprise and have them shuttle me to the CarMax! I had to tell him "I hope you realize you have given me nothing but good news since I first called you folks" because I was so happy. All in all, I got a very modest car at a modest price in a very comfortable location with a reassuring safety net from a friendly and helpful staff. I am over the moon with my experiences here and would GLADLY recommend it to anyone I know that is looking for a car. read more

Step Two: Go to Carmax in order to test drive some cars you're interested in. The saleswoman will be very eager to build rapport with you. So eager, in fact, that she will share anything with you. Anything beyond your wildest imagination. She will even tell you, that on cold days, when she's out on the back lot, that instead of trekking back inside to go to the bathroom, she pees in the bushes. And how on a cold day, the steam rises up from the ground. Step Three: Don't buy a car from this lady (despite how much you really want to give her the commission just for telling that story!). Carmax is NOT the way buying a car should be. Why? Because CarMax sells cars for thousands more than they're worth (I found a used car that was around $3000 more here than any other dealer for the same car, certified used cars included). They may offer you a lot less for your trade-in than a regular dealership, esp. if your car is older or had any damage in its history. In my opinion, this place is for people who are too lazy or timid to do research over the internet and to do some negotiating at the dealership. I just don't think overpaying by thousands for a "hassle free deal" is worth the extra that you'll end up dragging out the payments in loans for months or years. What is this place useful for besides the comedic relief? I hate the no haggle pricing thing. But if you do your research and know what you are looking for and about how much it should cost, it is not terrible. I will say I was firmly against them because of the fixed price thing, until... August 2006. I was looking to trade (or not trade my 96 F250) and get an F150 Super Crew 4X4. I was looking at Bob Bell in Glen Burnie and had been there several times looking at a 2005 F-150 King Ranch with 25k miles. They wanted $33k, I tried to get them down to $30k because with my trade I could afford that. They were very firm on the price and it did my heart good to see that truck there for 3 more months. Well on my to my parents I drove past car-max on Rt.1 and saw a black F-150 Super Crew 4x4. I made a U-Turn and went to have look see. I almost fell over. it was a 2005 F-150 Lariat with every item I could have wanted on it. It had 15,802 miles on it and the sticker in the window was $21,998. I went and fetched a sales person and called my wife to come check it out. By the time the wife arrives I am well into the paperwork and I am so happy. I get a new truck, I get to keep the old truck. The paperwork was slow and like pulling teeth. But probably 4 hours at worst. Still have my truck and it is all paid off. It has had no problems and I still love it. April 2011 My wife's minivan is starting to cost far too much to keep on the road. My daughter and I are on the way home from a class we were taking and she said "do you want to go look around car max with me?". She was thinking I may buy her a car (oh to be 16 and a dreamer again), But I was not pressed for time so why not. We went in and we saw a 2011 Camaro (HOT); she had to sit in to see how good she looked in it. My heart was broken when I sat in it and found that at 6'2" I am 6" too tall for this car. We did find that I do fit in to a smart car (would not ever own one, not driving an underpowered beach-ball on public roads). The we saw a whole herd of mid-sized suv's. My wife really like the escape and they had a 2010 with $13k miles on it. I checked it out and liked it. So we called the wife and and asked if she would come over and look at something. She was thinking I found a new truck or Mercedes and to see if she would like it. She go there and we showed her trucks and Mercedes and a Shelby Mustang. Then I was all innocent and happened to sneak up on the little escape and said "what about this?", and she says "It would get good gas mileage on your drive to work". So I say "No, for you?" She walks around it and sits in it. She says "Lets take it for a test drive". We found a sales person who took us for a test drive. My wife insisted that I drive??? Half way thru i pulled over and made her drive. She was in love. So, we get back and I am hoping they will give me $1200 for the van. That is $100 less then the Kelly Blue Book value for trade in. We wait and wait and then get called in to one of those offices. The sales person then tries to let us down gently because they could only offer us $4000. My wife does not have a good poker face, so the sales lady knew that immediately that it was more then enough. So we start paper work and it goes by pretty quickly. We got there around 6pm and were done at 10:30pm. So I am pretty happy with Carmax. read more

Went to this CarMax based on their advertisement.... "start here". I figured I could test drive a couple of cars and experience different brands to narrow my search for a vehicle. Well, I walked into CarMax in Laurel and got a completely different experience. We were greeted and walked out onto the lot to check out a Lexus, we looked at it a bit and I noticed the guy didn't even offer to turn the car on or a test drive, I found it odd but we kept chatting. I didn't really like the color of that particular Lexus IS anyway, so we walked over to some VW GTIs they had on the lot. I had never driven a GTI so asked if I could take a test drive, without any hesitation... he said "why do you want to drive it, they all drive the same... just pick one you like". I was dumb founded by that reply. So I asked bluntly, "you're not going to let me drive it?" and he replied- no. So with that... I walked away. That was rude, I can't believe a sales person would bluntly turn down a reasonable customer request like that. Take your business elsewhere, not worth it. read more

I have bought 3 cars from Carmax new because I didn't want to haggle and I am out the door literally within the hour from picking out the car I want on the lot. I have bought 3 Toyotas not from Carmax in the past 2 years and I have been able to get the promotional APR rate (0-1.9%) plus anywhere from 500-1000 below the advertised price from Carmax. However, it takes multiple emails and extra 30 minutes of haggling. If you don't know much about cars, just go to Carmax and you won't get hosed. We visited other Carmax stores in the area, and even though we looked, and test drove cars, we found exactly what we were looking for at this location. We have been looking for a while and obviously knew what we wanted/ needed. We were greeted in a friendly manner and asked if we needed a salesperson to help us. We declined at time because we only wanted to see what they had. Off we went to walk the lot. This location is the largest, I believe. All cars looked clean and well taken care of. They had a great selection on the make that we were looking and interested in. We went inside to check the cars we wanted more info on. The computers are a great help and we not only read, but were able to print the info for each car. An appointment was made right then to test drive one particular car. We went ahead to the customer service desk for our appointment and were greeted by Kaelan. He was attentive, communicative, friendly and knowledgeable. We drove the car, while he answered our questions. We were satisfied with all we needed to know about this vehicle. We decided on that car and Kaelan was excellent all the way. He was calmed, relaxed, yet confident in what he was doing. We follow along with him and after all, our experience couldn't been any better. Kaelan, Marion-finance and Althea at the signing desk, were all excellent at their jobs and we are very happy, satisfied customers. bought a brand new 2012 Toyota Corolla from this dealership, the sales man Junior was kind and very convincing. He told me that the car comes with a very nice warranty and if I buy extended warranty, it will cover the car repair for another 100,000 miles! I was convinced that I don't have to worry about anything for a long time and bought the car. 1 month later, the tire pressure light went on! The rear right tire was flat! OK, since the car was only 1 month old and it is still under warranty, I took it to Carmax service department. The man who worked in the service department was very unhelpful and he said "We have 2 hours wait." I asked him if he can take a look at it quick, maybe there is a puncture because I can hear the air coming out. He said "If there is a puncture tire, we don't fix it here and it is not cover by warranty!" He told me to go to another tire repair shop since they can't fix a flat tire! I WAS extremely angry and disappointed. I am talking about a 2012 brand new car here! They don't even care about trying to make new customers happy. I feel extremely cheated and lied to about buying the CARMAX warranty! The warranty doesn't really cover this kind of problem. My issue is not with carmax, and how they do business. it's completely with their TRASH service department I made an appointment at 8:30am I won't be leaving until 1pm. The service techs are friendly, but the time wait and the rotation of the service department SUCKS. I've been coming to them for years, and nothing has changed. Even to get an oil change will take 2 hours MIN. WITH APPOINTMENT. Seems like Since they got rid of all the older techs and hired new idiots it's been A MESS! read more

My 5 star review goes to the repair department of Carmax Laurel! More specifically Jim Zeman and his supervisor Debbie Grubbs. I took my car in for mileage service and a check engine light back in October 2019. Well.. I will say a little over 6 months later..... my car was fixed today!!! The team at Carmax Laurel were great. They were understanding and very optimistic through the GMC strike, part manufacturing and this COVID19 Pandemic in working with me! I haven spoken to Jim every morning for my status updates for almost 6 months! What can I say..Very professional team! I purchased my car from this location in 2018 and I will continue to have it serviced here as well. Very pleased! read more

Do NOT trust this service department. I bought my new toyota from them and had it serviced there for the first 8 years (65,000) miles. CRAZY expensive oil changes ... and then... the repairs. 54,389 I was told my water pump was leaking and needed replacement, along with the timing belt (normally replaced around 90K b/c you have to remove the belt to get to the pump ... this is true). at 65,000 I was told the steering rack had a leak and needed replacing. I was skeptical ... I'd had NO issues. I refused the repair - took it to a local mechanic with a fantastic reputation for honesty i should have used years ago - and he verified my power steering rack was FINE. 18,000 miles later I still haven't had the "alleged" leak replaced and guess what ... NO power steering issues. This department cannot be trusted! read more

BAIT AND SWITCH! LEMON! - Avoid this place at all costs. I put in a request for a free transfer on a 2007 Audi A3. When the car arrived at Laurel they had raised the price on it by a few thousand dollars. After much arguing they finally agreed to go back to the price before the free transfer was initiated. After these shenanigans and against my better judgment, I went ahead with the purchase. BIG MISTAKE. Less than six months later, and after only a couple of thousand miles of driving, the car is falling apart! The latest bill from Audi is almost $2000 because the windshield wipers stopped working. My calls to Carmax management have gone unanswered. I'm stuck with this lemon. I will be following up with my state representatives to hopefully get some help. This dealership is a nightmare....run away!!! read more

I had heard good things about Carmax in general, and this location specifically, so I decided to look into them when I needed a new car. I walked in without an appointment, was greeted promptly, and then invited to look at a computer and browse available cars while I waited for a sales rep. Woody came up a few moments later, and we continued the search in his office. There was absolutely no hard sell. He asked my criteria and price range, did a search, and boom-we had a list of cars available. He then was able to pull them up side by side, so I could see what each had versus the others, so by the time we walked to the lot, I had narrowed it down to two. After a quick test drive, I found the one. My previous car was appraised, and I was given a fair value (maybe I could have gotten a little more, but Carmax's offer was definitely not bad). I didn't have the title handy, though, nor a copy of the lien release-bring both if you have them. I was still able to finance the deal with a decent interest rate, and drove my new car home that day. The following day, I came back with the title and lien release and put the money from my old car toward the new car, and essentially re-financed it. I was also able to get a lower interest rate as well. Side note-I checked with my local bank, and their rate was the same as Carmax. So I didn't feel I was being taken advantage of at all. All in all, it was a really good experience from start to finish. I love my new car, and Woody was very pleasant and easy to work with. Again, there was no hard sell at all, and he thoroughly explained everything to me. I will definitely use Carmax again! read more

The salesman was extremely knowledgeable about the cars that were available and his input was indispensable in the car we chose. In addition they gave us 1,000 more for our trade in. The process was a bit long, but that happens in every dealer. I highly recommend Carmax! read more

I've purchased 6 cars from here. I don't see why anyone would buy a new car when you have places like this around! My most recent experience here was when I bought my most recent car. Wasn't the best experience. Tip: I would always recommend browsing the lot. I found a car that wasn't even listed and had been there for awhile with a great price. Bad: The rep I had apparently didn't believe in showers or bathing. He reaked!! Also, near the end while I was signing the papers he all of a sudden went into rush mode and became beyond rude! If I didn't really like the car I would have bailed the 1st sign of his attitude!! I dont like the new MD Plates and knew I was getting bay plates on my next car. This clown skipped through everything and caught an attitude when I had questions about the process. Not to mention sent my plates over without telling me. When I told him I wanted bay plates he replied "I already sent the oder and your plates are ready and it would be a huge problem to change it." I scoffed and told him that wasn't my problem and he shouldn't have assumed I wanted standard plates! Not to mention by this time I'm super tired. I've spend all day at the dealership now at the end he wants to be a douchebag, not going to happen! Already thrown off by his mood swing, I left the room and hunted down the manager and expressed my frustration. I couldn't tell you if they did anything about it or not. The guy apparently has worked there for years, so I'm guessing not! However, I'm a loyal customer and have spent hundreds of thousands with this company, someone was going to hear about this! Don't judge a book by its cover, this young lady has contributed greatly to the nice pay check you receive! So mind your manners! I have issue with my new 2018 Camry SE I bought on June this year. There is a lag before take off and engine is very noisy. I took mine in to the dealer after a month my purchase. It was inspected and I was told everything is working like it should. Really hope Toyota gets enough complains to fix this problem. I had the absolute worst car buying experience at the CarMax in Laurel, MD. Initially, I bought a vehicle (a relatively new vehicle that was still under manufacturer warranty) that had a odd noise coming from one of the axles. I called within a week of purchase and set up an appointment. Although they considered this a safety concern, they did not have any available appointments for three weeks. We dropped the vehicle off and were provided a loaner vehicle. The next day, the loaner vehicle had trouble starting...anyway. After three days we were notified that the vehicle had FRAME DAMAGE and they were not able to sell it to us. Although disappointing, the worst part was the unapologetic management team. Apparently, for some reason they thought they had better things to do rather than discuss this with me thoroughly. To be fair, the service representative and one out of the three sales representative I dealt with were fine. So not all of the people here were reflections of their management. We ended up purchasing another vehicle out of pure necessity but are not happy with the deal or the service that we received from Carmax. I will not be a returning customer and would advise others to steer clear. UPDATE: The new car we purchased has a leak in the roof...the trim and windshield was incorrectly replaced, go figure. A sticker in the trim dated the work within a few months of our purchase... DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE! read more
