Bought my VW here years ago and remembered that I really like the place; it's true what they say - this is not like your typical high pressure, sleazy car lot. So I went back recently and, although they didn't have the exact car I wanted, we just freely roamed the lot, hopped in out of (unlocked) cars and got a better overall perspective on sizes, features etc. If you are shopping for a car (new or used) I highly recommend going to CarMax to just roam the lot by yourself with not one salesperson hassling you, it's interesting and if you like cars (or your kids do), it's a fun activity overall - kids enjoyed hopping into luxurious cars like Porsches even though we weren't there to buy one. I sold them my 10 year old car two summers ago, the process was pretty painless. I made a appointment online before going. They spent about half and hour to look over the car, and then gave me two prices, the Kbb price and their price. Their price came a lot higher than the Kbb price, also higher than some private buyers were willing to give me. The quote was good for a week, so I went home and thought about it and went back a few days later. They took the car and paid me without much hassle. I recommend checking them out. Probably one of the best buying experiences I've had. Ive bought and sold many personal vehicles last few years. Even while working at a few dealers in sales, I haven't had a better experience yet. Now the experience wasn't perfect with my associate as he would need reminding of how I was paying (my trade in allowed me to get a money back, and they kept asking me how I was paying or if i was financing, again despite the fact they'd actually owe me) but otherwise a friendly person. The test drive was INSANELY SHORT. When they mean around the block... they're literally talking 4 right turns, like, I maaay have made it to 30MPH at one point..?. However! I was told It's because they allow you to return it within 7 days just for not liking it, so I guess after doing paperwork, if you just don't like it after driving it home or to grandmas house three hours away and back, no worries. However no-trade-backsies, once they take your car... its theres no matter the 7 day policy. The vehicle wasn't perfect and I didn't notice it until we went out to it after buying it. But they out right give you 90 days to bring it to the Service Dept with any problems or noise complaints and they'll do their best to fix it. Aaaaaalll a used car buyer could ask for!! -Haha how many times have you found something wrong within a week later? Now, I'll admit I've used that 90 day window to my advantage as I recommend anyone else to!! (As do they!) I noticed my brakes squealing and suspension groaning over speed bumps and they took a look at it. Finding the brakes actually needed some shimmies so they replaced the pads free of charge! Walk in with a squeak complaint next day picked it up with new brakes no big deal. Their service department is a small one which is great, because you can remember who you normally check in with!! --Over all; expect a 'walmart-esc Experience' You'll get what you came for nothing more. - Also just get their app. You can avoid maybe 30 mins dinking around with them if you already know what you came to look for. While some people may like doing that , I don't have the time nor do I appreciate the stress of a pushy salesman. I'd had my eye on a new convertible for some time, and decided to go test drive one at CarMax. This is the third car that I have purchased from CarMax and I always have a reasonable experience. I waited about 15 minutes for Howard to be available. That isn't long and it gives you time to look around the outside at the cars, which are all unlocked so you can get in them and check them out. I'd already picked the car I wanted to test drive online so this was just wasted time. They have appointments available so if you know, make one. They drive you off the lot and then you swap drivers. This would have been an issue if I had my partner along because the sales guy comes along for the ride. In a two seater, that's an issue. Once the decision was made, I had to listen to "the pitch" for extra services. Cue eye roll and waiting for that bit to be over. Then financing decisions. In the interim, my old car was being appraised. I'd already done an assessment on KBB so I knew roughly what to expect and they came in slightly above what I was expecting. Finally, paperwork signing. They try to make it as painless as possible and the business person did not do the usual trick of trying to up sell. I was through the whole process (from entry to CarMax) in under 3 hours. CarMax tried to make the process painless. There are still some eye roll moments, but the fair appraisal and no haggling on price makes it worth the trip. For comparison, I've never given any other dealership above two stars. read more

Kyle was our sales associate and he was terrific. I went in with a trade-in, which I got a very fair price for. The car I wanted when I looked online was available (they don't try to hook you in with a bait car like all the typical dealerships do) but after looking on consumer reports I decided it wasn't the car for me. I asked Kyle for his opinion about which car I should choose for 15k or under, and he recommended a Hyundai Elantra. I found one for under 15k on their lot. It's loaded with extras and I am very happy with my purchase. This is a different kind of dealership. You don't sit for hours on end wondering what they're doing. First, you walk the lot either alone, or if you want, with your sales associate. Then, you work with the same person and sit with them during the whole financing process. About 15 minutes later, you sign papers and out the door about 20 minutes later. My car was very clean when it was delivered to me. Thank you, Kyle! You were a great help! read more

Although I live closer to the Renton location, We went to this location because it was close to where I would be meeting my family. Took about an hour to get to this one though.... Got to the place at 5pm. Checked in + paper work at 5:15ish. They told me about 15-20mins they someone will call me. At 6:45 I went back to the front desk and they all looked at me like Im the crazy one. Its been over an hour and a half. Long ass wait because they forgot about us. 3 people that came AFTER me got in & out super quick. But I guess that's what happens when you just keep getting ignored and asked to wait. During my first visit, I test drove a couple of different compact SUV's and with Bret's help, I was able to narrow down the car that I wanted to go forward with; which had to be transferred from another Carmax location in WA. Bought a car in Vegas from car max, they were to ship to Lynnwood Ahmed was suppose to take care of this. I had $15,000 to put down on the car. I was told by Ahmed later that they sent my car to California and that someone else bought it all because I missed a phone call but he new because I had the cash I was buying the car. They then wanted me to buy same car at $2000 more coming from east coast that has salt which makes rust. They also wanted me to pay for the 600 in shipping 200 more then my original sale. They didn't care that they screwed up. They didn't want to help me so my dream car went to someone else. Ridiculous service and not helpful. Update: 9 days later and my original finance company says that they still haven't received the refund from carmax. Nearly two weeks and they still haven't issued the refund. I purchased a vehicle here in 2020 and purchased the service warranty and gap insurance. I decided to trade in the vehicle recently as I was looking for something a bit bigger. I called and asked for information about canceling and getting a refund on the service warranty and gap insurance and was told by their business center that I would receive an email shortly with the paperwork to end the contract. Called back the next day as I hadn't received an email yet and was told AGAIN that I would receive an email, kept checking and never received anything. Finally called again for a third time and demanded to immediately end my contract on these items as I had not owned the car for three days now. This time they actually emailed me the paperwork and stated that if it wasn't returned that day it would affect the refund as it would need to be recalculated. I spent three days trying to get these people to send me a frickin email and in that time I entered a new month on my contract reducing my refund. Then they send the refund to my original lender even though I had already sold the car and the lender was no longer on the title. Do not fall for their scams, will never buy from carmax again. read more

We had a great experience buying our first car at CarMax. We made an appointment online and were in contact with our salesperson (Amy M - she was great) ahead of time before we even reached the dealership. We chose CarMax because of the wide variety of used cars, the ease of searching online, and the "no haggle" policy. We never felt pressured to buy anything and didn't have to do any extra waiting around. We had some issue getting our credit freeze lifted in order to do financing, but Amy never once acted impatient while we were sorting it out. The one downside of going to a CarMax is that the salespeople are not intimately trained in the ins and outs of every model, but they're knowledgeable about cars in general and were able to help us out. We're thrilled with our 2017 Hyundai Elantra and had a great experience purchasing it at CarMax Lynnwood. read more

BUYER BEWARE! One-star is too many. Purchased a car in November. I paid over half of the price of the car by debit. I was not happy with the way it drove so I used the 30 day return option and exchanged for a different car. I was told that I could not transfer the cash portion previously paid to the new car and I must pay another debit payment and wait 30 days for a refund check. I proceeded with the sale anyway, as I was purching the car to commute to a job I would be starting in a few days and I couldn't be without a car while I waited for my refund. I was told the check wouild be mailed to my home. About two weeks later CarMax called and told me my check was ready to be picked up. CarMax is quite a drive from my home so I called the next day to ask if they would mail it to my house. I was told that someone had already picked up my check. I asked how this could have happened, considering only the company and I would have known it was there. I asked what identification they requried from a customer picking up a check. I was told that someone matching my description used a fake license to claim the check. They were not apologetic or concerned for my monetary loss or compromised identity. Both of which they were responsible for. After they briefly looked into it I was assured the check had not been cashed since it had been less than 24 hours and I would be issued a new one within 10 days. Meanwhile I filed a police report to investigate the fraud. I followed up a few days later with CarMax and i was told that the check had been cashed and now they needed to wait for the police report in order for them to issue a new check. It is now March and I have spent countless hours on the phone with CarMax local, CarMax corporate, the bank the check was issued from, and the investigating detective, and I still don't have my money back. My advice to you is to shop elsewhere! read more

We worked with Benny in choosing our Infiniti Q50s and he just let us check the car out at our leisure. No pressure at all. We bought a 2014 Honda Odyssey and there is a known vehicle-wide issue with piston rings causing oil leaks onto the spark plugs. 2011-2013 vehicles have been recalled for this issue. Our repair will cost our family $5,000-$6,000 range! We bought this our Odyssey from CarMax and with all the supposed vetting and inspection checks, somehow this issue was missed. I purchased a Porsche Cayman through this Carmax about a year ago. The entire experience was void of stress. This is saying a lot considering I had my car shipped from North Carolina. I decided to purchase an exotic car and settled on a Porsche for a variety of reasons. After narrowing down the make and model, I fine tuned my decision with the year, color and accessories. Needless to say the Cayman I wanted was hard to fine. A Carmax in North Carolina had the car I wanted. I worked with a sales person in Lynwood and one in North Carolina to have the car shipped to Lynwood. Everything was done via phone until the day I test drove the car. After the car arrived to the Lynwood Carmax I took it for a test drive and pointed out a couple of issues such as mushy brakes. They resolved the issues without disputing the validity and I have been enjoying my Porsche every since. Soon after the purchase I relocated from Bellevue WA to Sunnyvale CA with my job. I had a blast driving down here. The car performed flawlessly even at (alleged) speeds of 130 mph. More than a year has past and I am still enjoying the ride. I even had her treated with Ceramic Pro a couple of months ago. She looks showroom new! No games were played. No "Let me check with my manager". Customer service was top notch. If you are ever in the mood for a no hassle no games vehicle purchase, I highly recommend going to this Carmax. Even though they don't give you the pretend discounts offered at some used car dealers, you get more than your money's worth with vehicle quality and vehicle service if you find anything that does not feel just right. DELIVERED A CAR THAT WAS NOT READY AND WASTED OUR TIME! We worked with a kid named Lucien. On our first visit, he did a nice job. We paid $1100 to have a 2016 JEEP Rubicon to be delivered to the Lynwood dealership. When the car arrived our sales kid texted my personal phone. That was fine IMO, but still a bit odd. We were out of town and had every intention of seeing the car asap. But Lucien seemed to be in a panic or suffering from some kind of anxiety about when and how we were going to come see the car. I received a lot of text messages encouraging me to come in with a frantic vibe to it, as if his life depended on it. I told him we just got into town and would be there on Tuesday. "No, why can't you just come in on Monday"?! He texted me... I texted back, "I beg your pardon"?.., I felt it was a bit pushy and again, odd. First thing Monday morning I get another text, "Are you going to come in"? Growing irritated, but biting my tongue because I really needed the car, I replied, "... yes, we'll be in around 1:30". We arrived around 1:30 on Monday to see the car that had been in the dealership for five days. Lucien the sales kid should of been happy. This is what he asked for. We walked in and no one greeted us at the door for 30 minutes. Finally I had to say, "I would like to buy a car today, can someone help us? Where is Lucien, he made a big deal about us being here today at this time"? We were told that Lucien wasn't there. Odd... I said, "what ever, can we see the car now"? After another 10 minutes, some very strange looking fella came out and took us out back to see the car. ( REMEMBER, IT HAD BEEN THERE FOR FIVE DAYS and this was the day we were going to purchase... ). The Jeep was leaking water on the drivers side. The drivers side carpet was in a pool of water. The car obviously had not been cleaned in any way. They had not even bothered to clean the car, or notify us of the major water leak in the car. They proceeded to explain to us what would have to happen to fix the water leak, blah, blah, blah, blah.... !! I interrupted and said, "... WTF are we here?! Lucien insisted that we come in today, at this time and so we did to pick up this car that has been here for five days already. And when we get here, it is leaking water and not been cleaned?! You guys are wasting our ******* time! Why would you call us in here, away from our busy schedules just to show us a car that is not ready to be purchased"? I'm so glad we chose to get our car appraised at CarMax! After doing some research, I learned that CarMax would sell my car at auction because it was too old to sell at a CarMax location (my car was a year 2000). I made my appt for 11am on Sunday, got my appraisal and ended up selling my car to CarMax and was out in less than an hour and a half! The process was so seamless and easy. They did my appraisal which turned out higher than I expected, and the paperwork was a cinch. We probably would have been out even faster if we hadn't stopped to look at a few cars on the lot - but glad we did since now our eyes are open to other models since they have all types of cars on their lot, not just one make like other dealerships. Before I chose to go to CarMax I assumed I would have to either take a few thousand from a dealership, sell my car on Craigslist, which seemed like a huge burden, or try out Tred. I'm soooo glad I saved my time and effort - and probably got a lot more than I would have. Will definitely recommend CarMax to anyone who needs to sell a car! And for car buyers, I also recommend CarMax. We learned that you can convert a non-leather upholstery model to leather very easily. Overall the car runs great is in near perfect condition. I bought my 2017 Hyundai Elantra back in October. Everything was good until after I drove off the lot that my back passenger door on the divers side wouldn't open. When I was looking at the car I didn't think to open the back door because it was in mint condition, so I though it was a failure on my end. I've called CarMax several times expressing to them my issue and nothing has been done about it. Nor has anyone reached back out to me to settle this issue. I just want my door fixed. read more

Stopped by a couple of times. The car lot is fenced off and the dealership designed so that you have to park in a dedicated parking lot on the side and walk through the entrance of the building to get to the lot where the inventory is. This makes it nearly impossible to look without an initial greeting from the staff but they were low key. They greet you, answer your questions, and turn you loose without following you around which is what I want. All of the cars are unlocked and available to inspect without the help of the staff. The exteriors of the cars appeared well cleaned but the interiors were good but not great. I sometimes found myself wanting a rag to wipe something off. The inventory is supposedly well inspected before being put up for sale but we were surprised to find a vw that reeked of weed and a Volvo that reeked of perfume which left us questioning a bit. I wouldn't risk spending the $999 to have the car I wanted on the east coast transported across the country. On our second visit we used the carmax app to hold a car the night before and accepted the confirmation email. We arrived at the appointed time to discover they had no record of the hold. A video monitor indicated that there were 30+ other appointments at the same time as ours. Needless to say we saw the car but after a while of waiting lost hope of getting a test drive and left. Walking back through the building to leave there was no one left hanging out asking to help. With those experiences in mind I still think it is a good place to find a used car just not a 5 star experience yet. I would still consider buying a car there. read more

I located the exact car I wanted and paid the very reasonable fee to have it shipped here from Sacremento. It got here within two weeks. I took it for a test drive, purchased, and had it inspected. Inspection revealed two minor issues that CarMax (under its 30 day policy) is fixing (have ordered parts and repair is scheduled). I was looking at selling one of my four cars (the least valuable & driven). I've heard about the free "Appraisal" offer and thought if I could get average trade-in value for the car I'd be happy. I checked online before I went, it's around $3,050 according to NADA & higher with Kelly Blue Book. Retail is around $5,500; I figure I get trade-in value & they sell for retail. ...But, they had other plans. I made an appointment for 1:00PM, I got there at 1:30PM, but the next appointments on the display screen in the lobby showed 2:00PM. I sat there waiting for at least 15 minutes despite copious amounts of CarMax people wondering about and then "the salesperson" showed up & we had a nice chat. While that was happening the appraiser did their thing. Over course, all of this took awhile, and the salesperson showed me the clean carfax / autocheck on the car & I brought all of the service records, owner manuals, & both original keys. So all of this reaffirmed that I have a solid vehicle. They offered $700 !!! And as if they are doing you a favor they have a Kelley Blue Book instant cash offer of ... $350 !!!!! I guess that's to make their offer look good? Absolutely hilarious ! Thanks for wasting 3 hours of my time (including the drive over & back). I went home listed it on eBay for a 7 day auction opening bid was $2,500 & winning bid was $3,450. Boom, that's how it's done! Over $2,600 more for minimum amount of work. So they say Titles are in a warehouse like the 1970s and someone has to go find it. I am stilll waiting for my title 2 days later and no one will help me get RESULTs they just say its been requested. My car is in the pound. and I cannot get it out and the costs are cmpounding. They offer to let you talk to a manager then put you on a 20 minute hold so you hang up - which I eventually did. So bravo. You are horrible. $25,000 for a car and I cannot get a copy of the title. BAD BAD SERVICE. read more

David, the General Manager went above and beyond helping us track down a car we wanted, that they didn't have. Ahmed was our salesman, and I can't say enough just how incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable he was, and he did it all with a smile! It normally takes about 2 weeks to ship a vehicle from a different Carmax, and thanks to David and Ahmed's hard work, our vehicle came in 2 days!!! 2 stars only because the people I worked with were friendly and professional, otherwise this is a very poorly managed/poorly run place and an overall bad experience. I sold my car to them and walked out with a check. A few weeks later they called me telling me they gave me too much money and I owed them $2k. I get that mistakes happen but several weeks later? The person on the phone was understanding and said the corporate office would set up a payment plan. No calls, emails, letters or anything for months and now they're suddenly threatening me with collections. I understand that a mistake was made and I intend to pay what is due, but come on, $2k is not leisurely money and I need to budget for that. Do not sell your car to Carmax. read more
