I ordered a car to be transferred to this dealership. The car was damaged in transit. I was not advised of this, and had to call the dealership multiple times to get information. Somehow, my order was "not in the sales system", which the manager on duty used to excuse the lack of communication. Due to the damage, the car needed additional work, but the manager did not offer any price adjustment, any refund of the transfer fee- just the opportunity to "sell through" and pay the same sticker price and a loaner. I paid to have a car shipped to the Manchester location because I was looking for a very specific making and model of a Toyota that no one in the Manchester area or surrounding towns had not even Toyota. The shipping prices were more than reasonable, and they kept me informed every single step of the way. I also sold my car to them, which we ran into some complications because my appointment was booked for a Saturday. That's the only day I have off from work and the bank that holds my auto loan closed at noon on Saturday and by the time we got to the part where it's time to do the payout that bank was closed so I could no longer do the trade-in however, they can still figure everything out for me and I was still able to purchase my new car using the cash that I had brought for a down payment. And set a new appointment for Monday morning once the bank that holds my auto loan would be open and I could get the letter of buyout from them for Carmax. The whole process was absolutely fantastic and I was someone that have been very stressed out over the last two weeks because when I usually made the offer on my car, it was an older 2012 but no major issues unfortunately a week before my appointment I ended up with a major issue on the jeep. But they were able to reevaluate and give me a more than fair offer. Nice to go to a dealership who treats you like people and not just a paycheck and is compassionate, understands the situations that happen in real life and really tries to help you. I am not recommend this place to anyone. I made an appointment to be seen at 7:30 pm on Tuesday March 22,2022. When I arrived, I instantly got turn away because they were 2 customers waiting ahead of me. Each of them we're waiting 45-50 mins before me and they had an appointment. There were no one being to see me for the night. The customer service said they were about to close in 5 minutes. (It was 7:40 when the sign said carmax office hour is 11:30-8pm) I am very disappointed since I heard a lot of good thing about carmax from peers. Clearly, it was a lie. If you can't provide a good service and honor my appointment, a good communication won't cost anything to call me ahead that you can't meet up with me. Just simple phone call, not a rocket science. By offering to do remote service by the time I am arrived it made me feel like a hand slap on the face. I feel very discriminated and won't return or refer or doing any business with carmax. This issue won't happen if you have trained your employees appropriately. I am awared that you might be short staff but again one simple phone call or email would be great. Had a very bad experience with CarMax in Manchester NH. We found a car we liked in NH but wanted it to be transferred to MA as we lived in MA. We went through the process that day of getting the car transported to MA (something they recommended we do). Confirmation and tracking number were given to us and we were told it was all set. Called a few days later to check on the car's eta as we had no means of transportation due to our car being totaled in an accident. I was on hold for over 45 minutes just to be told that the car couldn't be transported. If we were told that day, we would have just started the purchase process and dealt with the sales tax at the RMV. We decided to go the next day to purchase in NH after all the issues. CarMax gave us a very difficult time trying to transfer the plates so we could drive the vehicle home. To the point, we had to put the plates on the car ourselves because they wouldn't. We were charged over $400 in admin fees, but WE put our plates on the car, and WE had to register the vehicle ourselves. Very disappointing experience, especially when you are charged that much for admin and no admin was provided at all. read more

We used CarMax's online estimate to sell our Subaru Outback Touring. We checked two other companies that provide online estimates and CarMax provided the highest offer for our car. We made an appointment, our car was appraised and they gave us exactly what was quoted online. The process was quick and easy and we had a check in no time at all. Our sales person was extremely professional. We hadn't intended to buy a car there as we had a new EV on order, but CarMax had a gently used EV at a great price. We test drove it and ended up purchasing it. Again the process was quick and easy. We did purchase an extended warranty but unlike other dealerships it wasn't a high pressure sale and CarMax didn't try to sell us other "upgrades" or options. I've heard horror stories about Carmax, that they undervalue trade ins, and push warranties hard, and their cars are overpriced... What would you expect from a retailer started by the same people that brought us Circuit City (ex employee of Portsmouth NH Store 4116 here, I still have nightmares, especially regarding the words "performance" and "guarantee", an absolutely horrid place to work or shop, we were expected to pressure customers into purchases, and then hit them hard with the "PG", in the Circuit City dialect of English, 'No' didn't mean "No" it meant "I need more information" we were expected to push the PG at least 3 times during the sales pitch/demo... So, that's what I was expecting when I went there, a hard sell, high pressure sell, and a hard push on the extended warranty. What I experienced was the exact opposite, low to no pressure, my salesperson was pleasant and enjoyable to talk to, we actually spent more time chatting about how she was new to the area (came from California) and wasn't looking forward to her first New England winter, scared about driving in snow, I gave her a few hints (snow tires are your friends, find an empty parking lot and practice emergency maneuvers, plan on doing everything more slowly, make sure to bundle up and have spare clothes and even a sleeping bag in the car just in case (set up a bug out bag)... Eventually we got back to the car, she offered a 24 hour test drive, which I took, and was pleased with the car so I came back the next morning (after having the car evaluated by my mechanic first) to purchase it, I dealt with another salesperson (they apparently are not on commission, unlike Circuit City...) to complete the sale and she only lightly presented the extended warranty once (these are your options, this is the price and what's covered, and it can be returned after purchase if you don't use it) and it was a take it or leave it presentation, no pressure, I was given two prices, one with the warranty, one without. I made my decision, and during final prep, they found the rear seats had a major ink stain, and put a new set of rear seats on order, as well as a few other maintenance items needed, they treated my 12 year old used Toyota purchase like it was a brand new car! Ungodly overpriced Tacoma. So they had a Tacoma I want to check out and I went and looked at it it just looked okay wasn't in great shape by any means definitely had some dents on it and a crease running down between the two doors underneath looked like it was parked in a swamp there was sand everywhere under this vehicle everywhere every little nook and cranny and on top of the transfer case and then when I open the hood the engine cover was nice and shiny but you look at any engine part around it and there was this same sand everywhere. The interior was okay I think I could have detailed my car better than that it just didn't look that good for a dealership definitely a rushed job The truck you're fine I need a new tires there wasn't much life left on them you can see the brakes have been resurfaced I'm not a fan of that but it shows that they definitely ran it through their shop but it needed tires they were absolute garbage did they pass inspection yes but for what you're paying and what you get it wasn't worth it The price on the truck was obscene it was more than it went for in 2017 by $5,000 it was a $37,000 used Tacoma SR5 nothing fancy running the mill absolutely overpriced with dents dings and a gouge and the frame did not look good all New England vehicles look like crap after a couple years this one was horrific and also there was like I said earlier sand everywhere. And honestly I just wouldn't go back to CarMax because they're okay with selling an overpriced truck that's definitely not worth the money to someone else that's dumb enough to buy it I didn't like going in there I didn't like their process how they do things at all I wouldn't go there ever again and their warranty it's pretty crappy too read more

When I got inspected at a local garage they told me I needed a front end alignment and a brake fluid flush and replacement. I still had my car under their 90-day full coverage warranty so I came to Carmax. They set up an appointment and got me right in. Thankfully they didn't need to do anything to the car, but I'm glad CarMax service was here to help. Say what you will about used car dealer warranties, but CarMax hasn't let me down yet. read more

Amazing car buying experience. They're clearly a different "type" of dealership and I really appreciated that. As a young female car buying seemed daunting but they made it easy and clear. I traveled 3 hours just to buy a car and it was worth it. Only reason I didn't give it 5 start is because the finicing option was not a good one for me. They offered an incredibly high (in the double digits) APR rate where as my local credit union was nearly 10 points less. I would suggest people at least look into outside financing options. Bought a 2015 Jeep Compass for twice what KBB says it's worth but that was my mistake as it was my first time financing a car. I've had this Jeep not even a year and I'm constantly having to fix or replace things on it. First it was the control arms maybe 3 months after buying it (wouldn't pass inspection because of this) then the dash would leak then a couple sensors needed to be replaced and now it just won't start. Flashing check engine light. And when I call to express my concerns, I'm brushed off. I opted in for the extended warranty that won't even cover the tow from my house to the CarMax near me to be looked at. I am beyond frustrated. I have loved this place since I went and bought me Pathfinder here. The people are honest and you can definitely feel that they care about their customer. I have a few minor issues with my vehicle and they've got me back in to correct everything within a timely manner AS WELL as letting me have a rental for the day so my work wont be affected. I have only put 5k miles on it since buying it and my brakes were so poor that it wouldn't pass inspection. I was nervous they wouldn't do what i felt they should and replace them seeing as my brakes shouldn't fail after only 5k. But they surprised me again and got my vehicle in today and are fixing it. Wow.... Am I disappointed with CarMax... I had such high hopes for them when they came to Manchester New Hampshire to compete with all the tier-1 dealerships in the area. I have two areas of disappointment with CarMax and let's start with the first one, which is the presentation of the car. The vehicle I was looking for was rather specific and they had one, so I was very interested. During my walk around I opened the hood and noticed that the grill moved around a little bit. I pulled on the grill to find out that it was being held in place by only two fasteners and the remaining ten fasteners were missing. I also noticed that the bumper fasteners, below the grill, were missing and there's a total of 9 of those. I pointed this out to the sales person who was surprised told me about carmax's awesome hundred twenty five point vehicle inspection and said she would open a work order to get those retainer clips installed.  When I took delivery of the vehicle it was noted that the clips had been ordered and I should come back and they will get installed for me. A few days later I swung by CarMax and offered to take the clips and install them myself since it was such a simple procedure. CarMax had no issue with me doing the repair and handed me a bag of four clips for the grill. I asked where the rest of the clips were and they indicated they had only ordered four. At this point I'm a little annoyed because I need six more clips for the grill and nine for the bumper.   Having an insufficient number of clips I went over to the Nissan dealership where I bought the remaining clips and the bumper fasteners. It turns out the grill clips were the wrong ones, and I could not get the grill reattached, so I had to go back to the Nissan dealership and find the right clips. Other not able delivery failures. 1. The spare tire had only 20 pounds of air in it. The 125 point inspection clearly states the Spare Tire is checked. 2. Three of the main tires were filled to proper air pressure while the fourth was a whopping SIX pounds under. 3. The oil drain plug was leaking due to a missing Crush Washer. 4. The interior windshield was the dirtiest windshield I have ever seen. Clearly no one made any effort to clean this windshield before the car was delivered to me. Now for my disappointment during the purchase process. CarMax had a great selection and my sales person was great at talking to me and working with me to find the right vehicle. On a Sunday I swung by the dealership in the late afternoon to settle on the vehicle I was purchasing. we spent about an hour filling out all the computerized forms so that the next day I could come in and speed through the process and take delivery of the vehicle. We spent about a full hour on Sunday doing paperwork. On Monday I expected to "Speed Through" the paperwork and take delivery of the vehicle. Well it seems like we did all the paperwork over again at least three times, and it took no less than 2 hours to do the paperwork again. I can't explain why we did everything over again and again.  To make matters worse once all that lengthy paperwork was done the sales person had to go put gas in the vehicle. I've literally been sitting there for 2 hours and no one could have taken the time to get the gas put in the vehicle. CarMax definitely has ruined the process by trying to have the sales person also be the business person. Classic dealerships are way better, where you work your sales person and then you go do paperwork with someone else in the back room. The only reason I would ever give CarMax a second chance is if they are the only ones that had the vehicle I was looking for. read more

They said to send in a receipt and I would get reimbursed, call them again, did so, the response is the same old I haven't received it yet, been 5 days, the same old the check is in the mail, called them, said a check was sent out. read more

Let me start off by saying that this is my number #6 vehicle purchase from Carmax and most likely will be my last. I purchased the vehicle from Carmax on September 5th, 2022. The vehicle that I had chosen was a 2019 BMW X5 that was shipped from Maryland. Before having the vehicle shipped, a walkaround was performed and was told that the vehicle was in immaculate conditions with no dings, dents and whatsoever. When the vehicle had arrived, it had dings, dents, and rock chip all over the front and passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was touched up with a grey paint on a white vehicle, which made no sense. The sales person "Kyle" had informed us that this will be taken care of after we made purchased of the vehicle, just need to schedule a preferred date. Since this was a very hard to find model, we decided to move forward with the purchase. After dropping the vehicle off for service, the vehicle was transported to a third-party vendor "First Line Collision" in Lowell, MA. The process took a week to completed before arrival. During pickup, it was noticed instantly that the dent was never repaired, the dents was painted over. The color matching was also off from the hood to the front fender. There was over sprayed from the paint to the entire surface of plastic panels of the vehicle. The vehicle was rescheduled to rework the imperfections. A phone called from "Ivan" to informed me that the vehicle was completed. During the second pickup from "Kyle", the damages on the vehicle was never repaired. The only thing that was done, was the removal of the over sprayed from the plastic panels. The chemical that was used to remove the over sprayed had melted and damaged the plastic panels. Kyle said he will notify one of the manager "John" about the current situations and hopefully this will be taking care of. Ivan had called me the next day rather than an awaiting phone call from John to reschedule the vehicle for drop off and this time a manager from First Line collision will be there. After the third attempts, the manager had looked over the vehicle and marked all the damages that was done. One thing I've noticed is that the manager did not speak English, perhaps this is one of the reasons (a communication issues). The vehicle was there for another week and had arrived worse than before. The entire passenger side panels were way off, there was orange peels on the vehicles, the paint was not smooth anymore, had waviness perhaps from the bondo or incorrect paint prepping process and finally the paint was highly noticeable in different shades in one section from spraying the vehicle up close to. One of the manager "Ben" had been notified immediately. Ben said that there is nothing that they can do because this is up to Carmax standards and majority of the vehicle that he had seen are like or worse than this. Ben said that he will speak to his manager to see if the vehicle can be returned since it had passed its 30-day mark. The next day, Ben had called me to informed me that the vehicle can be returned at a schedule date. Rather than returning the vehicle, I decided to take a loss and keep the vehicle and have the repair made elsewhere. The vehicle was brought into a reputable body shop for estimation and the damages was estimated in the $6K range. One thing to keep in mind when purchasing a vehicle from carmax, do not buy when the repaired is not completed before hand.
