I don't normally write reviews, but my experience with CarMax was so exceptional that I felt it deserved recognition. From start to finish, every person I worked with was absolutely amazing. My salesperson, James, was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely focused on helping me find the right vehicle for my needs and budget. I never felt pressured only supported. The finance representative who completed my paperwork was incredible. I wish I could remember her name because her customer service was truly outstanding. She made the entire process easy, comfortable, and stress-free. What impressed me most was the service department. During my purchase, the associate I believe her name is Sara identified an issue with the vehicle that I hadn't even noticed. Instead of ignoring it, she immediately stepped in, arranged a loaner vehicle for me, and made sure everything was taken care of while my car was being repaired. I've purchased vehicles from several dealerships over the years, and I can honestly say I've never experienced this level of customer care. The team at CarMax treated me like a person, not a sale. @CarMaxVictorville We went to CarMax Victorville on Saturday, June 27, looking to trade in our car. We found a vehicle we were interested in, and when the salesperson pulled up the Carfax report, we noticed it showed 3 previous owners and a reported accident -- but this was never mentioned to us before we asked. When we asked what happened in the accident, the salesperson didn't know, and simply told us "just to be sure," implying they don't sell cars with frame damage. That's not reassuring when the report is sitting right there and no one can explain it. As buyers, we expect the person selling us a car to actually walk us through its history, not hand us a report and hope we don't read it closely. If we hadn't asked, we wouldn't have known any of this. Be sure to ask direct questions and read the Carfax yourself before you sign anything here. @CarMaxMurrieta We visited CarMax Murrieta today to get an appraisal on our trade-in. We are the original and only owners of this car and have never been in an accident -- no claims, no repairs, nothing. So we were stunned when they came back and told us there was "frame damage" and asked if we'd been in an accident. We know our car's history better than anyone, and this simply isn't true. It's hard not to wonder if this is used as a reason to lower trade-in offers. Great experience at Carmax Murrieta. I wanted a high demand luxury SUV that I had to have shipped from Northern California. Everything about the process was simple - shipping, trad-in, purchasing, financing, etc. Bruce at Carmax Murrieta is absolutely phenomenal. I was tired of getting the run around at various dealers in Southern California and was not willing to pay over MSRP for the vehicle. Long story short, I had the best interaction with a sales manager from a car dealership EVER! Angie took my phone call after I was trying to find another manager who left me a voicemail. The crazy thing is I didn't even buy the car at Murrieta. I had an issue with the appraisal portion of the sale at the Duarte location but she was empathetic and genuinely had concern for my situation. The phone call ended up being transferred to Murrieta since I live there probably. Angie & I spoke for a while as I had questions about the process at CarMax and she took the time to explain from both the company's perspective as well as the customer's. I can tell she really cared for her customers and she treated me like a customer that did business at Murrieta. Another words she didn't just pass me to the Duarte location. She offered at the end but I told her that her explanation was enough even though it won't change the situation. What the conversation did was that I told her that the Murrieta CarMax will be my only CarMax I will deal with in the future! I 100% suggest going somewhere else to buy your car.... I purchased a car here two years ago and since then there has been a vibration in the car, I have brought it in for repairs over 10x and the problem has been consistent. They had been changing out suspension parts to find the issue and turns out its probably coming from the motor, the vibration has caused multiple failures including my ignition coils failing twice and certain electrical features to stop working. I have had to pay my max care deductible 4x now and they have yet to fix the issue. the car is in the shop now and customer service corporate has also done nothing to help me. if you want to save yourself the headache and money on a $5000 max care and $300-$500 deductible then I suggest buying new or from a dealer with a warranty so they could actually fix your issues. read more

This was my first experience buying a car from Car Max- I am used to the back and forth negotiating and taking hours to get through finance dept etc. price was fair on the used Genesis G80 - made an appointment on line , I was 15 minutes late but didn't have to wait at all once there - after signing a document was given 20 minutes to drive where ever I liked. Rosie was great to work with and gave an honest no pressure approach - really liked that she represented several brands so wasn't just trying to sell me 1 brand- started the paperwork and went to lunch while it was processed and drove the car home - pretty easy - they only get small down marks because they did only an OK job in cleaning the car for me - I did get a full tank of gas though. read more

purchased a 2019 Honda Accord from CarMax, and the experience has been extremely disappointing. The same night I drove the car home, the tire pressure sensor warning came on. I brought the vehicle back to CarMax twice to have the issue repaired, and they were never able to properly fix it. And still has it on About a month or so after purchasing the vehicle, I went to replace the cabin air filter and discovered rat droppings inside the filter. The filter was old and clearly already contaminated, which strongly suggests the vehicle had rodent activity before it was sold to me. When I reported this to CarMax, they initially tried to blame the area where I live, which made no sense considering the droppings were inside an old cabin filter that had clearly been sitting in the car long before I purchased it. They eventually took the car back and told me they had cleaned and fully inspected the vehicle. I relied on their inspection and continued using the car. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have driven it regularly and put about 30,000 miles on it. Recently, while performing routine maintenance, I removed the ignition coils and discovered large amounts of rat droppings deep inside the engine bay. These droppings appear old and built up in areas that would not occur overnight, especially on a car that is driven daily. The fact that droppings were found: * Inside the cabin air filter * Deep in the engine bay under the ignition coils clearly indicates the vehicle likely had a rodent infestation before it was sold, and that the inspection CarMax claimed to perform after my complaint was not properly done. I reported the issue early and gave CarMax the opportunity to fix it. Instead, I was reassured that the vehicle had been cleaned and inspected when clearly it was not. Selling a vehicle with rodent contamination in the HVAC system and engine components, along with unresolved issues like the tire sensor warning, raises serious concerns about the quality of inspections before vehicles are sold. Buyers should inspect everything themselves and not rely solely on the inspection claims. Very disappointing experience. read more

From my sales guy - Adam competely lying about max care which I paid for, managers not returning phone calls, letting me leave without doing full inspection causing me to have to go into a different location a second time for the inspection. Letting a car be purchased without inspection is crazy. Here's the worst - they sold me a car with a cracked bumper and glued on molding to hide the crack and the broken molding which was very cheap to fix for them. Now I'm paying someone 1500$ to fix both as my max care doesn't cover that and I'm outside my 30 day warranty by like two weeks. These guys are unethical in every way. Save yourself trouble. Made an appointment to test drive a car, confirmed the appointment, and then showed up on time only to be told it would be 40 minutes before anyone could help me. I asked if they could at least open the car so I could check out the interior and was told it would be 40 minutes before anyone could even unlock the car. Worst experience ever. Purchased vehicle and next day check engine light came on. Brought back immediately for repair and sat in parking lot for 10 days untouched. I should have known better. I returned vehicle on day 10 and was convinced to by another so against my better judgment I did. I purchased new vehicle and after a few days the check engine light came on. I immediately went to the service dept. A few days later I called and complained and they told me my car had not been looked at yet. Because I was so upset they agreed to work on the car and told me it would be ready for pick up the next afternoon. Sure enough the next day came and they called me telling me the car was ready. My husband sat in traffic to go pick up right when he got off work and my for the check engine light to come on again about 20 min after he left. Do not buy from carmax. They are un reliable and the service dept never answers the call. When you go in you will see at least five people sitting around. It's very disappointing that I've had to waste my time with several trips. The last time they offered to take the car to Mercedes. Too little too late. Why was that not offered in the 1st place?!? I will say the operations manager Jay was very nice and did his best to fix the situation. Had I not complained it never would have made it up the chain for him to know about. He gave me the opportunity to return the 2nd car after the 10 days. So we did. The stress and headache was not worth it all. read more

CarMax used to be a great and trustworthy business. Recently I found a vehicle that I wanted. The photos and description didn't have any damage to the vehicle, scratches, dents, etc. I reserved the vehicle, paid $1000 to get it shipped. When it arrived it had major and multiple scratches, dents and the engine had a transmission issue (gears slipping). I don't recommend CarMax. They're just out there for the quick sale and turn around for profit. read more

Very disappointed with CarMax Auctions Murrieta. I purchased a Subaru at the auction that had expensive aftermarket auxiliary lights installed. When I came to pick up the vehicle, those lights were missing -- they had simply disappeared from the car. I approached the managers hoping we could calmly resolve the situation. Instead of help, I was met with complete indifference and very rude treatment. I was basically told to just take the car and leave. Another serious concern is the security at this location. It feels like the yard operates like a walk-through area with little to no control over who enters, and apparently no responsibility for what happens to the vehicles. For a company like CarMax, this level of service and lack of accountability is completely unacceptable. Very disappointing experience and extremely unprofessional staff. read more

Buyer beware on the vehicle standards of a carmax car. Carmax acceptable tire standard is 4/32, when the tires are recommended for replacement at Costco, America's Tire and Ramona tire. Carmax does not provide a car fax. They provide a very less off brand not detailed car report. Their vehicle checklist checked that they had repaired or replaced the exhaust system, our third party inspection mechanic says they could find no car fax record of this work being performed or a visual inspection showed no new parts or service. Friendly service but to be constantly told there is no acceptable restitution for bad tires that were sold as a 6 and 5.5 rating per the sales rep is a big hit to the pocketbook after buying a 2023 vehicle with 28.5k miles on it. Buy a used car elsewhere is our recommendation as the carmax standard appears to be at the replacement level. read more

Carmax, Very unhappy with your Murrieta location. I got there for my 10am appointment and was told to sit and wait. I saw my name on the board and thought, cool, I'm set. Sat there for about a half hour with no help and got up to ask if I was set and she said yes you just have to wait. After awile I notice I notice my name is not on the board anymore so I get up to see whats up. She has no Idea who I was and had no info on me. I waited an over hour for this bullshit. Buy elsewhere- got a Volvo 2023 Fri and had it checked by Volvo specialist/ on wed - needed bushing and front arm replacement. Of course they could not get it in service until 2 DAYS AFTER the time I could easily return. Just got a call from service dept that it's FINE - I was referred to see a dealer that may help with repairs- They do not have any qualified service workers/ think twice before buying here. read more

The team at carmax were awesome start to finish. The Mercedes I leased for my parents has ended and the car only had 16k miles and MB told me they would give me a check for the equity in the car. They scheduled me to come in for an end of lease inspection and a couple days before I was told no inspection was needed if we were going to turn it in. I was also told I would have to pay a $600 disposition fee and that there would be no equity in the car. When I mentioned I wanted to Carmax it they told me that was a bad idea because I'd have to pay tax on the car etc. when I asked them to provide me my payoff, they quoted me $2,400 higher than my payoff through MB financial. So enter Carmax. I entered my license plate into their website and some other info about the car. I was given a preliminary estimate of $25,400. This was $5,000 more than what the payoff was. So I brought the car in for the actual appraisal. After 20 minutes they confirmed the appraisal value and I just had to give them my DL and MB financial account info so they could request the payoff. After that was confirmed, I signed a few papers and was given a bank draft to deposit into my account. Easy peasy! The business team was fantastic to work with! read more

Bought a car here. 1 week later me and my husband decide to drive it off on a road trip two hours away. On the way back the car started overheating and leaking engine coolant! The check engine came up. Took it to get serviced and was told the radiator hose had to be replaced as well as three other things they seen issues with. Thought this was supposed to be look at before the sell a vehicle?? Hmmm fishy!! Was also told they had to keep the vehicle for 2 weeks and was told I couldn't get a loaner vehicle. Honestly, I was surprised at how easy and low key the whole experience it was. I was selling my 13 year old car. I entered in all of my info online, and yes, I was honest about the two fender benders that I'd been in, they generated a quote which I took with me to my appointment. I waited about 30 minutes while technicians checked out my car. They came back with the same number that I was quoted, I accepted, and 25 minutes later I went home in a complimentary Lyft ride with a check in my hand. Could I have negotiated for more money? Maybe, but the quote was already well over what Blue Book said the car was worth. So why deal with the hassle. Everyone there was super nice too. This is a tough review to write because I really wanted to enjoy the entire experience, but the truth was that I didn't. READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH What I liked: It's true, the buying experience is second to none. It was no nonsense. I was ready for a negiotiation fight, but it was easy. I wasn't asked to buy a bunch of add-ons and buyer protection stuff that the big dealerships put you through. The only thing that was offered was an extended warranty that was both logical and added peace of mind. The trade in process was fair and generous too. What troubled me: I took our Kia out for a test ride but didn't take it on the highway. Just a local drive. I didn't sense any problems. When I was talking with the saleman, he pointed out all the check marks during the inspection of the vehicle before they put it out for sale. I made the purchase. (I bought the car for my daughter). When I drove the car home and actually got to push it over 50, the damn thing started to shake badly. I knew what it was because I had this happen with a car I already own. It was the brake pads and rotors. I called the salesperson and he confirmed that's what it likely was. When I was driving back to the dealership the next day, the friggin check engine light came on. I was super upset. When I talked to the manager and the salesperson, I brought up the checklist they used during their inspection. The brakes received the check. I asked about the check engine light and they had no answer. I left the car there and took a loaner. I had to wait 11 days to get my car back!!!! There's no person to call, it's an automated system that is frustrating. They fixed the brakes, but the check engine light, which wasn't a big deal, had to go back to the dealership because it was under warranty. I talked to my mechanic, which I wished I would have brought the car to in the first place, and they said that it's very unlikely they did a proper inspection on the car. There's no way to "miss" brakes. It wasn't taken for a proper test drive. They just get the cars in and churn them out. " WORD OF CAUTION: If you are buying from this place, take it to a reputable place because you cannot trust CarMax. Sure they took care of the problem, but no one called to reassure me or even listen to my concerns. Just excuses on how "we can't catch everything. read more

Do your research and remain diligent if you're buying a car from CarMax. CarMax settled on a class action lawsuit about their 4-point inspection not being completed. In my experiences it shows. I've purchased two cars from CarMax. My first car was a perfect purchase and I was extremely impressed. That was back in 2017. I was so impressed that I recommended them to my mom and girl friend. My mom and I would both repurchase cars from CarMax in 2023. For my mom's car water started seeping up into the car. We find out that her car had undisclosed and significant water damage, her car had to be stripped down. We found out that the water damage was from an *again* undisclosed car accident. Luckily her insurance stepped in My car that I had purchased, suffered engine misfires 12 days into ownership. I took it back to CarMax and they replace one engine coil. Then my AC and brakes started acting up. I was charged 80 dollars for a diagnostic because the issues weren't covered by my warranty, and I was told "We couldn't replicate the problem." So I got charged 80 dollars and no work was done on my car. Since then I've been buried in car repairs. Every month something breaks in my car. Even after replacing the coil I continued to experience engine misfires from failing coils. The car has serious starting issues, the AC has completely failed. A year into ownership I've replaced, fuel injectors, spark plugs, all four engine coils, and at the start of my second year of ownership, I've had to replace the AC, and took my car back to a mechanic for more engine misfires. I kept all of the paperwork too, I can I prove this. This review doesn't cover everything I've had to do and my interactions with CarMax reps. Every time I start my car I wince anticipating that it won't start. My loan is a freshly new loan so I can't really get rid of the car without taking a massive financial hit that would ruin my savings. You know I understand that dealing with used cars there is a chance that you inherit someone else's problem, but in mine and my mom's case, you'd think a 4-point inspection would have caught these issues. read more

OUT IN A FLASH! I was super nervous giving CarMax a try as I hate car lots. However, I never felt like people were trying to haggle with me and I didn't feel pressure to buy. I had a vehicle transferred over from another CarMax lot and the vehicle came as it was pictured! My family and I took it for a test drive (without the CarMax associate!) and it was a good fit. The APR wasn't extremely high like some other places and they worked with me! The facility is pretty calm, very quiet. The sales building is very spacious with PLENTY of seating. There's a waiting room and a couple vending machines. The lot itself is HUGE, there's plenty of cars for perusal. It's a little hard to find CarMax as they're sort of hidden by the freeway off of Madison and it's deep in the back. There's an internal maintenance/rental CarMax area in the front and behind it is the sales lot along with the services garage. Overall, I'll be returning as I got what I wanted and there's some solid services like MaxCare (covers services like engine, AC going out etc.) and Gap Insurance (in case your car gets totaled, you don't pay). I won't give CarMax a five as some of the staff seemed too disengaged and moody. It was a little awkward. Oh well, I prefer that than them breathing down my neck lol. read more

Pressure free, open book and crunched the numbers until we got exactly what we were looking for. They even held the car for me for a week! I don't understand some of the bad reviews. Buying a car with CarMax was simply the easiest, pressure free, smooth experience I've ever had. I don't know if I'll go anywhere else after this experience. Her name is Sally Martinez and I have a great lawsuit I will file by next week. BEWARE of Carmax and demand a Carfax on your purchase. That is how I found out that my car had been in an accident and their Autocheck did not report it. I proved this to her and her response was, "Wellwe can't buy the car now, it was damaged".
