Classic Bait and Switch sales scam!! NEVER will I EVER consider Carmax an option after what happened to us. I will ensure to tell all my clients, friends and family members to spread the word about what happened to us because after doing research, we are not the only ones that this has happened to...do your research! My partner and I live in Marina Del Rey (Los Angeles) and we found a Jeep Renegade online at this Murrieta location which we fell in love with right away! The specs were amazing and just what we were looking for. We immediately called the Carmax call center and we spoke to someone named Felix. He told us that they preferred an online or over the phone application during this COVID-19 pandemic, which we were perfectly fine with because we wanted to get approved over the phone before making the two hour drive out there. So he ran our credit and we both get approved and were told to purchase insurance and get certain documents ready before coming in... and we did. We get to the location and Sam (Carmax Sales Rep) sits us at his desk and described the Carmax call center as a waste dump. He said the rep over the phone was an idiot and made a few mistakes on our application and he needed to run our application and credit again... so he did. We get approved and then asked us to sit in the lobby area while our car will be washed and sanitized. Not sure why am employee would bad mouth their own company like that. So unprofessional. After 10 minutes of waiting, Sam comes up to us and tell us that he had bad news. The car was actually not what we had purchased. The vehicle was actually manual and the online listing stated it was automatic. He even showed us the print out where it was marketed as automatic and admitted to the mistake online. He apologized and tried to get us to pick another car in his lot, which none of them met our requirements. I spoke to someone who was possibly Sam's superior but he was no help whatsoever. We explained to him that we felt deceived and were extremely disappointed at what had just happened to us but he didn't have much to say. He just kept asking, "do you have to have a Jeep Renegade?".... MF yes. We drove from LA to Murrieta (2 hours) for this Jeep, yes we have to have a Jeep Renegade. We know what we want and don't want. We were infuriated at that point because they knew and admitted they made a mistake but had nothing to say and couldn't do anything, they even tried to sell us another car which was a couple thousands dollars more and he only knocked off $500 from the price. They totally baited us by driving us out there and switched the sale on us to something different and tried to sell us something more expensive. Bait and Switch is illegal and is an act of fraud in the sales world. Today we will be talking to our attorneys about what happened to us because this is NOT RIGHT! Shame on you Carmax! What a POS dealership. Broken every policy they established. They put a car hold for some young customer, who told them he was buying the car from them with cash. I was told that the car can be reserved for up to seven days. Well, I contacted them after that seven days, and was told the car was on third extension, which by their policy seven days it the max they can hold a car for one specific customer, but since this was cash purchase they decided to extend and extend and extend for this guy. I guess this guy is either begging, selling his jizz, or selling drugs (not fast enough) to come up with a cash to buy GT350. Sales team is helpful HOWEVER service on the other hand. A week after I purchased my car in January we took it in to get the breaks checked, they claimed they changed them and we moved on with our lives. Then February comes around we noticed the breaks were still screeching but didn't take it in until Feb 14th, we also informed them that 2 days prior our passenger side was getting incredibly soaked when the A/C was one. They kept the car for a few days claimed they changed the breaks AGAIN and said they cleared something in the A/C that might've caused the carpet to get soaked. We leave and notice the breaks are still LOUD. Take it back and notice a burning smell in the A/C , they then say there was something with the cabin air filter and another piece in the A/C that caused the smell and also said this time it was something near the breaks that was bent & not the breaks causing the noise. When our car is ready over a week later we leave around 8am and by 9am the breaks are still loud! My husband calls a day later and the service manager drives it & says he hears the noise & that it's coming from the front breaks (but we were told the day before it wasn't the breaks??) & they'll put new Toyota parts on the car. They also told my husband that someone with a "heavy foot" is causing the noise and breaks to wear out so quickly within ONE HOUR WOOOW. So CarMax please explain how within 1 hr of having the car we caused the breaks to wear down and how we had a loaner car for over a week yet the breaks in that car are fine? I'm genuinely confused so please reach out & explain it to me. Not only is this frustrating FOR ME but also draining. Not to mention you guys claimed there was no note about my A/C being checked for the wet passenger side, so that was "never taken care of". I get it can be annoying seeing the same customer over & over but maybe if service was straight up from the beginning it wouldn't be an issue, don't say it's the breaks then say it wasn't then say it actually was and blame me for a "heavy foot" when this is the first car I've had this issue with. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Went in to try to test drive a car like we used to do. We got there and the sales person wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. Kept getting up from the table to talk to his coworkers, like he wasn't really interested in our business, but ok not a huge deal. Apparently now to test drive a car you have to show proof of insurance, which I've never had to produce before so I had to go home to print it out. Figured while I was at home I would just make an appointment online to test drive the car to save time. I got all my paperwork ready, made the appt online, received multiple texts and a phone call prior to my appointment (a little annoying but not a deal breaker). Got to the dealership in Murrieta for the appointment about 5 minutes early, checked in, and they said someone would be right with us. Stood there, walked outside for a few minutes, went back inside to wait, no one came over, called or texted to say they were ready for us. We left after standing there for about 20 minutes. We told them we were leaving and the customer service person said he was just waiting for a salesperson to become available. What the heck is the reason for the appointment if they are not going to honor it? Definitely will not go back to this location! Ever! I'd rather go deal with the salespeople at a normal dealership, than deal with the salespeople at this dealership. Save yourself the trouble and go to any other car dealer than this one. read more

Worst place to get a car, my husband had bought a BMW and the moment we drove off the parking lot there was a check engine light. Whats with that? Not to mention we didn't notice a crack on the windshield that only grew within a couple of days. This place are non responsive to request. They're only nice when they know they reeled you in, but once that's done they ignore any text messages or calls in regards to recent sales. This will be a long review, but I really want to share this experience. I have never, in the many years I have been purchasing cars, experienced car buying like I did at CarMax. Wow! Just Wow! From our salesman Bill Driscoll, to our service writer today Melissa Olivas, I am just so impressed with this dealership. I had been shopping for a specific car, knowing that my lease was almost up on my Audi SUV. I searched everywhere and really did my research. I decided on the Inifiniti QX60 and found the one I wanted on one of the car shopping sites and it was being sold at CarMax. I was initially hesitant, but the SUV was exactly what I had been looking for and so much more! The car was located in Malibu, so I requested the free transfer. I got a text within a few hours from Bill just to get some information and he said he would contact me as soon as it was ready. It took about a week altogether until I got the text to set the appointment to test drive. We test drove the vehicle and were approved through CarMax financing. Hang in there this is where it gets good! We were a little concerned with the interest rate we received and the payment it was leaving us with. Our salesman informed us that we have 3 days to find better financing. He even encouraged us to try a local credit union stating that sometime his customers do get better rates there. So we did. We signed the CarMax financing contract, went and got lunch real quick and headed over the the credit union. We were approved for half the rate that CarMax Financing gave us. They cut us a check then and there and we took it back to CarMax and that was that. We were thrilled. We didn't feel ripped off. Yah we had to do a little of the leg work, but it was so worth it. Now I noticed the monitor would go black occasionally, not always and only when I would start the car and go into reverse and that my parking break was really loose. I also noticed that the entertainment system was missing a remote. I texted Bill to see if it would be possible to get one. I honestly didn't think I would get it. I know with used cars if it isn't in writing then you are basically SOL. So you can imagine my surprise when he texted me back and said he spoke with service and they ordered it. OMG. I called to set my service appointment for the other issues and they were able to get me in within a day or two, amazing. I dropped my car off and Melissa was my service writer. I mentioned the remote and she checked the computer and it hadn't been ordered, she told me she would place the order. The car was done within a few hours (I just have to go back for a new monitor) I walked in to pick up my car and the remote was there! And my parking brake was adjusted perfectly. I am so so so so impressed with CarMax and have already started telling people they need to go here if they are looking for a used vehicle. Absolutely the best service and experience! read more

Wow... What a pleasurable experience. From the moment you walk on the lot of CarMax it is such a great experience. There is not some hound pouncing on you the second you get out of the car. Instead, you walk up to friendly smiles, a super clean, bright and cheerful lobby. They had a few people ahead of us, so we had about a 25 minute wait. This gave us time to browse the lot to see if there was anything we liked. We found a few cars we liked. We finally sat down with a sales manager who walked us through a few cars, then finally the salesman Kevin was helping us. He was great! We showed him the car we wanted, we provided our drivers license and registration to test drive (just my daughter and I), then we went on a drive. We came back and said let's make a deal. Kevin did computer work for 5 minutes. 4 lines on the screen-- cost of car, $85 CarMax fee, down payment, and OTD cost. so perfect and so easy. "do you want it"- he asked? "Yup! we want it". So we clicked the box, it processed for 1 minute, and boom, approval with interest rate, and payment. DONE JUST LIKE THAT. He then went and washed the car, we went to put our 5k down to the cashier. They counted it, and then my daughter signed paperwork. How easy was that? Where is the easy button? She had her keys in about 2 hours from the time we stepped out of the car to driving off the lot. Such a huge difference from the 4 hours of wasted time at Temecula NIssan. FRIENDS TELL FRIENDS TO BUY USED CARS AT CARMAX. I will never buy a used car anywhere else. Thank you CarMax! I purchased a vehicle about 5 months ago and the temporary plates on the car have been expired for +2 months now. CarMax informed me that it was due to an issue with their auction house and COVID and they do not have the car purchase title to send to the DMV to complete my purchase registration. I received a letter from the DMV yesterday saying my registration is incomplete and that my car can be impounded and/or ticketed if on the road. This is unacceptable! I have done nothing wrong but purchase a car from CarMax. I am now stuck in the middle waiting for CarMax and now I have to drive my vehicle around like I am a criminal. I have called CarMax Murrieta several times. Nobody has once called me back. I am always the one having to call them to constantly relay who I am and that I am looking for an update. This car purchase has been a complete nightmare and more stressful than it ever needed to be. read more

My son called and was told to go to the dmv because the plates had already been mailed. When I heard this a was super mad and called Carmax spoke to Candice and she tried to tell me the same thing. Love the car i bought but supposedly they washed the car and it was not very clean there was bird poop on it still and the inside had walnut shells and was not fully cleaned for it to be sold without sanitizing it especially because covid 19 and everything i was not very happy and i know it wasn't because there was dust on the dashboard ! Very upsetting. I had my 3 kids with me there for hours and they were already fussy and hungry and crying i didn't have time to say anything to anyone. I bought my car at Carmax a less than a year ago. I had a problem with brakes immediately. I took it back and they said they were fixed and put new rotors on them. I just had to get new rotors put on and the mechanic said there was no way that they put new rotors on the car. They were very badly grooved and my brake pads were fine. Last Friday, my husband and I walked in to test drive two specific SUV's. Kim greeted us with a warm, genuine attitude and walked us out to the lot. I immediately got swept away by choices I didn't even consider. I asked if we could test drive a few other cars. Kim had no issues with that even though it seemed to be a busy day. In the end, Kim could have gotten me into a luxury vehicle I was impulsively considering. However, as a mother herself, she understood the needs of my family and helped me make a really smart choice. I love my Explorer! I would have regretted any other choice and am really grateful she helped me make a decision I'm totally happy with. Impressed by how easy this experience was, my husband went in two days later to trade in his Tundra for a smaller, more commuter-friendly truck. He was hoping they'd have a Tacoma on the lot. We work with an equally fantastic salesman named Sam. He helped my husband choose a similar truck for his needs and we bought the vehicle. Two days later, the exact Tacoma we originally wanted went for sale at the Ontario CarMax. We were devastated, until we remembered the 5 day return policy. After some back and forth between the two dealerships, the mighty Kim was able to get the Tacoma transferred to Murrieta and the trade was completed. The staff was super helpful from testing the car, taking price and explaining everything to me for my first purchase, to finishing the purchase. After I got the car home I noticed a nail in the tire. I went in and the service staff was super friendly, unfortunately I had to return to San Diego and wasn't able to get the repairs here. I'm giving 5 stars based only on the way the employees handled a not so easy situation. I could have easily been one of those people who come on here and complain and give 1 star because the car I bought had a transmission problem.. because that's what happened.. but instead.. I am impressed on their willingness and eager to make the situation better. I bought a 2017 Chevy Tahoe last Sunday... drove it for a week, and figured, if I'm spending 35,000 on an suv.. let me get fancy, so I took it back and returned it the following Saturday. The next day (Sunday) I bought a GMC Yukon Denali, on the way home, I noticed a bit of a shake (transmission worry) and the next day. The car wouldn't even turn over. I took it straight in.. they immediately put me in a sporty gmc and assured me they would look into the problem.. they called me a few days later, and my concerns were confirmed. Transmission is bad. But! It's covered under warranty and of course, I'm within my 7 day return if anything. I decided I wanted to return it as I found a better vehicle to suit my family elsewhere.. but my experience there won't defer me from coming back next time. They totally went above and beyond to make it so easy and offered to do anything they could to make up for the mistake. As long as you know going into a CarMax that you WILL ALWAYS pay at minimum $3,000 to $5,000 more for an absolutely identical vehicle with identical mileage, features and condition from a certified pre-owned dealer (like say a Honda dealer) and you are ok with being raped for the over-charge due to their "No haggle" pricing policy? By all means ... buy a car from CarMax. As for us we don't mind haggling when its fair but CarMax? ...We'll pass. As a word of caution ALWAYS secure your financing from your credit union or bank before going to a CarMax with a locked in interest rate and do your research on Truecar to have a better idea of what the car you want is selling for in your area. This plays heavily with CarMax "No Haggle" pricing strategy ... Where you live, what you want and how much others are paying for the same car. "Caveat Emptor" read more

Not a business focused on customer service, rather an entity who's prerogative is to push out cars, meet minimum legal requirements, and hanging you out to dry. I had to handle recalls which existed before i purchased the car, take time off work and go to Mercedes to get that fixed (something which in my eyes should have been taken care of before selling the car). Which is when they informed me about multiple areas needing attention. This surprised me because i was under the impression cars went through a 125 point inspection before being sold. Additionally, my back tire being as bald as it is can be incredibly dangerous. (It's at 4/32 but CA state law only requires CarMax to replace it at 1/32). So now i have to take time off work again to come back here and get this resolved. I definitely would argue it's a reasonable action for CarMax to comp the service fee when my car was less than 1000 miles from needing it (they claimed it was residual from their pre-sale oil change). More-so, Its reasonable to expect CarMax to comp this as a courtesy for now having to take two days off work to correct things which really should have been fixed before the car was even sold, and then one day in the future to return the loaner car and pick up my car). I know CarMax emphasizes a focus on customer service and this is not the customer service i would have expected nor the CS my families experienced in the past when buying from you guys. They are peddling a minimum compliance with the law, not offering customer service. Be wary about purchasing cars here, unless you have ample time to take off of work. My family has purchased multiple cars through CarMax and concerns such as these have always been resolved for us. It's incredibly disappointing CarMax is choosing to operate in this manner. Talked to Saul the manager, who accused me of being "overly upset", making it difficult for him to resolve the situation. My voice wasn't raised and i was speaking with respect. Accusing me of being upset when i'm voicing serious concerns, after buying a $25k car is not helpful. Expecting a call from Saul, the manager, within 24 hours with a resolution. I will update this review with his expected plan of action. *** UPDATE*** Saul followed up with me after about an hour and offered a resolution that I'm content with. Re-rated from 1 star to 4 for their recognition of the issue, prompt response, and viable solution. Thank you for making this right. read more

When your buying a car it should be an exciting fun experience. I felt like I had just got pulled over by a cop the whole time. Every question was done in a degrading way. When my husband ask a question about the vehicles features she seemed so disgusted. I got in a car to test drive and as soon as I pulled out I said I didn't want it and wanted to go back. First off let me just say I dislike negative reviews because I feel that everyone has a bad day and or experience .. everyone makes mistakes...with that being said I had no choice to write this review after I had two conversations with two different managers at "this dealer in Murrieta CA If you want to buy a car there... don't! If you want to sell your car or truck there.. don't! I've tried to do both and walked away after 3 separate occasions. I'm not a complainer and I hate giving negative feedback because I believe that no one is perfect but with that being said... my issue was with management. They book your automobile as a less then it is... meaning if you have a (for example) Honda Accord EX then they book the car at Honda Civic LX and show you how much you can get for your car. So I call them out on it and the desk manager wanted to play games. No one has time for that! Carmax look me up and see how many times I've brought 3 different vehicles there to see what they would offer me... every time it's completely disrespectful and a waste of everyone's time.... I've been in the Auto industry since 2006 and I've been in management so I know what it's worth and I know they have to make money but to lie every time I've been there and they booked out my car or truck and put it in as a base vehicle... I have never had anything bad to say about any place I have been but my husband went to find out why they took $350 out of our account. Come to find out someone forgot to make a call to Enterprise for a rental we needed while we were getting our car fixed at CarMax. My husband then had the displeasure of speaking to Kimberly Ruiz in Service who was very rude and at no time made an apology for her attitude. Simply stating that "Calling Enterprise to say the car was received, was not her job!" All while clarifying with another rep in office that it IS in fact their job. I would recommend CarMax but this service person stay away from, she clearly has no indication on how to do her job or treat people. read more

I am giving a 1 star to this plaxe because of their BAD & HELPLESS CUSTOMER SERVICE. In September 2019, we purchased a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and last week around Wednesday the air bag came up. On Friday morning when I was about to take my son to school so I got the jeep on R and it felt heavy to back up and when it finally did I put it on D and I moticed it was already on the 3 gear so, I thought it was an issue with the dashboard. But as I was driving my son to school, I noticed the was wasn't going over 40mph and then a "Service Throtle" light came on. My husband was at work and I called him to let him know about the problen and I had to go pick him up all the way to the Coronado Milutary Base (because they all carpool from Menifee). We got home, took the car to CarMax and explained to then the situation and they gave us a pampleth with some phone numbers and websites for US to call and find a place to take the car. They DID NOT bothered to help us out, even though we mentioned it was our DAILY vehicle all they say was...Well, it is kind of late now (it was nont even noon yet), and we are a week for booking a service to get your car checked. We asked if we could get another car in the mean time this car was being evaluared and they say NO, the cars has to be diagnosed before we proceed to a rental. So now, I HAVE TO wait for the mechanic's answer to see what is it that we are going to do next. My husband will have to miss work because of all this bullshit! We learned that when we are in trouble....Their custoner service SUCK but they are QUICK to sell a fucking car with an EXCEPTIONAL customer service What a crappy ass situation!!! read more

We originally completed an online deal and expected to just drive up and sign the paperwork for the vehicle we reserved online. When we arrived, we ended up not liking the vehicle and found another we were interested in. We were assisted by Roger. Let. Me. Tell. You. ROGER was amazing. So down to earth, relatable, and made the whole process of buying a used vehicle so good! He was so patient with us and helped us work out the financing on our vehicle. So glad to have met him and if we have the need to purchase another vehicle, I hope he will still be there when we get back. read more

I had such a great experience here that I have to share. I requested for the vehicle I was interested in at another location. They reached out to me the next day and got the vehicle there within the next day. I will say it was from Ontario to Murrieta, so it was close. Once the vehicle got there they called me right away to make an appointment to come in and test drive it. I go in that same day and was greeted and helped by Sol who was amazing. Not pushy, very understanding, very informative and super helpful. Once I decided to purchase the vehicle the process was easy and quick. I was taken the finance department who was just as amazing. I never had such a great experience like this with purchasing a car. I recommend this place highly. Thank you Sol for all your help yesterday! read more
