In addition to the cosmetic issues I originally mentioned, which were promptly addressed, I later discovered a discrepancy between the tire standards reflected in CarMax's public-facing 125-point inspection and the measurement process being used in practice. That is something I believe should be clarified for future customers. After I raised my concerns and provided supporting documentation, including Tesla's official OEM tire replacement guidance, management approved replacement of all four tires. Of course, I would have preferred brand-name replacements, but I felt this was a fair resolution and decided to move forward. To their credit, Manuel, Brandon, and the service team at CarMax Burbank handled my concerns professionally, and I appreciate that management ultimately chose to make it right. My constructive suggestion is simple: CarMax should clarify the tire standards listed under its 125-point inspection so they accurately reflect the measurement process being used. That would help prevent unnecessary confusion for future customers. I'd also strongly recommend that anyone purchasing a vehicle take detailed photos of the car on the day of purchase, and again before any service visit, in case questions come up later. read more

If you are bringing your vehicle to CarMax Riverside for service, please be aware. My experience with this location has been the most unprofessional, frustrating, and careless service I've ever dealt with in the automotive industry. I picked up my transfer vehicle and immediately noticed cosmetic imperfections. CarMax chose to treat them under warranty, but once I got home, I found pinholes in the paint, a broken left taillight, and the start/stop service light on. I sent photos, and they scheduled me for the following week, saying they needed to "verify" the damage because they didn't trust their own service department. After inspecting the vehicle, they told me the taillight was on backorder, even though another dealer had it in stock. They insisted they had to use their local vendor. I dropped the car off the following Thursday. By Tuesday, they called saying the part was defective and needed to be reordered. They also said they couldn't handle the cosmetic work and would have to sublet it out. When I picked up the vehicle, the service advisor, Steven, gave me an excuse--but I immediately noticed they had installed a broken, used taillight. They scheduled me again. When I returned, they said the sublet shop had taken care of everything. That was not true. Upon pickup, I found new scratches and a dent. Steven said he would notify a manager. I called back and spoke with Bryan, who claimed he had multiple vendors who could fix the scratches and PDR the dent. I told him the scratches were too deep, but he insisted someone could handle it. I trusted him. The next day, I picked up the car--nothing was fixed, more damage was added from poor workmanship, and now my check engine light was on. I contacted corporate. Ariel promised a call the next day. No one called. I escalated to her manager, Dani. I told them I wanted the vehicle repaired at a certified shop because CarMax clearly didn't know what they were doing. They kept insisting I bring it back to the same location that kept damaging it. I called again and spoke with another manager, Rick, who said he could take me in--but not for nine days--even though I had already been there three times. He also admitted Steven and Bryan only told him about the warranty issue, not the damage their shop caused. Corporate was no help. I eventually reached the LGM, Tony. I explained the situation, the poor communication, and the fraudulent behavior. He said he would speak with Rick. They called me back and asked me to bring the vehicle in so they could "see the damage"--a full month after I purchased it. When I arrived, there was a man standing with his arms crossed like loss prevention. It turned out to be Bryan, the same manager who ignored my calls for five days. During the walk‑around, Rick immediately took an arrogant tone and told me, "It's a used vehicle, it will have scratches." I explained the damage occurred while the vehicle was in their possession. He claimed they had signs saying they weren't responsible for damage--signs meant for customers browsing the lot, not for service vehicles. He then asked how I knew the damage happened there. I asked why they attempted to fix it if they didn't cause it. He said it was "a courtesy." Their "courtesy" caused even more damage. When I tried speaking to Tony, he stayed silent while Rick dominated the conversation. Bryan then inserted himself, accusing me of being aggressive. When I told him he needed to be demoted, he became hostile, breathing heavily, and had to be physically held back by the other managers while threatening me. In the end, they told me I could either drop the vehicle off again for the check engine light or pay my deductible and go elsewhere. It has now been a month, and no one has called me back regarding the damage they caused, despite promising they would. CarMax Riverside has shown zero accountability, poor workmanship, dishonest communication, and unprofessional behavior from multiple managers. Rick needs training or demotion, Tony needs to retire, and Bryan should not be in a management position at all. Bunch of clowns. read more

Some of the Business staff had good customer service while others were snappy and inappropriate behavior, which shows lack of customer service skills . Used car manager should be involved when explaining the appraisal vs putting business staff in an awkward situation as they are not the ones appraising a car . The staff are always judgmental about customers and decide who gets treated differently based on looks and style. My parents and I went to look at a GMC, when we arrived the building was empty with only 2-3 customers and 7-9 sales reps on the floor. The man who initially took our names down at the front desk said it would be about a 5 Min wait to speak with someone. That was fine with us as it allowed us to walk the lot with no problem or pressure giving us the time look at the car we reserved online. So after waiting 10 min or so the guy comes out to the lot and opens up the truck and leaves us with the keys to turn it on etc. We waited about 30-Mins and No call or text about getting help or going for a test drive. So we walked a bit more then went inside. Only to be told that it would be about another 20Min wait to get help. We saw 3 Reps just sitting down on their phones and not even trying to make conversation about anything. We asked to test drive the car then the guy mentioned that it would still be awhile as all sales reps are busy with customers. We had got the idea that they didn't want to help out any Hispanic people since only the White people and couples had been sitting talking with sales reps. The atmosphere was so off that even the other Latino couple sitting waiting decided to walk off with us after we asked if it normally takes 60+mins to test drive a car. They responded that they been waiting for about 45mins or so prior to us showing up. Even with an appointment we still didn't get to test drive or run some numbers on the car. The worst part is some white lady came in with her car on a tow truck and got helped out by 2 sales reps right away but we had to wait for a while before even being considered. So with our deposit and check of 44K we went to the GMC up the street and happily drove off with our new Denali. I don't recommend this place at all unless you wanna waste time and patience. This place falls below average or standard for auto sales. We have purchased at the Ontario location with no issues at all. Unfortunately one mistake is all it takes to make an impact on your buying experience ; this place did just that. Made a terrible experience for us. if I could leave a negative star i would. I walked in for a scheduled test drive and there was a ground sales reps just sitting around. I was informed the internet was down and they wouldn't be able to look up my reservation. Ok, no problem. the gates can't open or close so I can't do a test drive. No phone call letting me know this beforehand btw. I sat in the car and was informed the internet was back up so I could take my test drive. I was already set on the car so wasn't concerned about dealing with the salesman that knew very little about the car. I told the salesman, Jonathan, that i was already pre-approved and just needed to return with the check to pick up the car I scheduled a time and day later in the week, had the check in hand, ready to go. I upload all the requested documentation to their portal days before to ensure a smooth purchase. Fast forward to an hour before the scheduled pickup time. I'm literally am on my way to the dealership and get a call saying the check I have I have isn't sufficient and that we can't do the deal today. This is information that should been relayed to me prior to an hour before purchase time. To say i'm disappointed in the handling of this is an understatement. There could absolutely be an agreement to accommodate the issue to ensure customer service, however, one was not offered. I found this 2017 Corolla Se I really liked on the carmax website. I thought it was worth the 1.5 hour drive to check out the car based on the pictures, CARFAX, and the minor imperfections that were disclosed on the carmax website. Unfortunately I arrived late in the evening and this car is black. It looked pretty good under the light though. I noticed there was a pretty bad stain on the headliner from what looks like a leak that wasn't disclosed in the website. Also the rear spoiler comes painted to match the car, yet this car's spoiler was just unpainted dull plastic. Also the car had a really bad smell of body odor. I asked if could get the stain out from the headliner and I was told they didn't don't have the capability required to get the stain out. The paint on the roof was also bad. It showed signs of wear. They said I could make an appointment to have it touched up. So I bought the car and drove it home. The next morning with the sun out, I got to take a good look at the car. There were far more imperfections than carmax had listed. The most noticable, all the small touch ups to the paint. It was done very sloppy with no attempts to blend into the existing paint, but only cover deep pits and scratches. Looks like it was done with nail polish tbh. The next thing I noticed was the rear trunk and bumper. That spoiler not being painted was a red flag. Which is what got me to notice the uneven gaps and spacing between the trunk and rear quarter panel. Very close and tight to the passenger side while very uneven and large on the driver side. And that's when I noticed the paint on the rear bumper and rear quarter panels on both sides. The car comes in this really pretty metallic black with fine blue refractions that sparkle really nicely..but the paint used to "blend" the rear bumper/ rear quarter panel is a nonmetallic solid black. At a glance, you don't really notice, but you can clearly see where there is an absence of blue refractors, also the clear coat was put on too thick and had dimples. With all these red flags, i feel like this car had been rear ended, although it's sold with "no known"" accidents. Also, the car was in really bad need of alignment. While driving at speeds greater of 25 miles the wheel pulls hard to the left. You're constantly adjusting the steering to keep the car straight. It's something that should've been taken care of before hand. In fact, the alignment is listed under the 125+ inspection that carmax says they follow on their website. They also say they detail the car to their standards... but parts of the steering wheel were sticky and whatever they used to wipe the interior reflective surfaces was left with a greasy film full of lint. I went to carmax because I thought they would have a higher standard for the vehicles they sell over that of a private seller. They should be ashamed of presenting prospective customers with vehicles in such poor condition. I expected better. I returned the car later that day. The manager said they had a guy that could take care of all the cosmetic issues, but when I asked about that the previous night I was told they didn't have the capability. I took it for a test drive and when I returned Reanee was working with someone on an appraisal. I think that is fair so I don't have to sell private party. I also like to leave them some money so they can make money. I don't want to wait 2-3 months to make $1000-2000. Oh where to start! This is my second car purchase (and last) from Carmax, the first one I had no problems with. Unfortunately that car was involved in an accident that totalled it. So I went back to these guys again looking for the same make/model I had previously, I couldn't find one but their website shows "similar" vehicles. So a 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 with a turbo came up, I had never owned a Mercedes in my life, I fell in love with it! It was transferred from the fontana location. So I told them I wanted the car. My insurance paid off what was owed on my totalled car and gave me a check for the difference to buy another car. This car had less than 64,000 miles on it at 7 years old and it was listed for $26,000 I thought it was a great deal since it was a Mercedes-Benz, right?! Well fast forward 2 years and I've only put 7,000 miles on this car and it starts leaking oil. I take it to Carmax for service, then they call me and tell me the motor mounts are broke! So they repair the turbo that was leaking oil and replace ONLY 2 of the 3 motor mounts. This was January 2025, I purchased this car 10-15-2022. So they have my car for a week and then they tell me it's ready. I pick it up, and again I hardly drive it and it stays parked in my garage. Come February 2025 I turn my AC on and my car starts shaking pretty bad, I take it back and they check it and tell me they're sending it to Mercedes-Benz of Riverside because they don't know what's wrong with it!!?? Mercedes calls me the day they get my car and ask me about what's going on, so I tell them. Turns out they had to replace the 3rd motor mount because Carmax FAILED to replace all 3. Not only that but as I'm reading through the paperwork with all that was done and I was NOT told about. It also had broken transmission mounts, I had a power train leak and after Carmax worked on my car (I had an oil change during repairs) the oil filter housing started leaking, my hood sensor was showing my hood was open when it wasn't! So, to specify again, my turbo was leaking oil, my motor mounts and transmission mounts were bad, it had a power train leak and after they changed my oil the oil filter housing started leaking. Not to mention my hood was off alignment AFTER Carmax worked on my car! They have no effing clue what they're doing! Arturo Marin was my service person at Carmax. After picking up my car from them (after Mercedes fixed it!) Arturo made a comment about my diamond wedding ring and said, just buy a brand new Mercedes, you can afford it. Ummm excuse you! Sir, that is NONE of your business and you had no right making those inappropriate comments to me! I had gone back and told Carmax sales I wanted money back because this car was not worth $26,000 mind you with finance, interest (12%) and the $4,000 extended warranty I bought, it came to $42,000 with my $7,500 down it brought it down to $35,000. Carmax had the nerve to offer me $15,000 to buy the car back, let's see I still owe $17,000 and they expect me to take that loss? Especially with all the money in payments I've already paid. Plus I've put almost $2,000 into the car, tinted windows, brand new battery that went dead the first year. I also had it decontaminated, clay bar waxed and 1 year ceramic coated. I definitely take care of my cars. These problems should have been fixed before this car was sold!! Carmax is denying everything. They can buy it back for what I paid or refund me a part of what I paid, if not... then I will let the court decide! I have documentation, proof they are in the wrong. If you want to sell unsafe cars, (pretty sure that's illegal!) then stop charging that kind of money for JUNK! This is one person you will not rip off and get away with it. If anyone buys any used car, I highly recommend having it throughly inspected before buying. That's what I'll do if I ever buy another used car. read more

This CarMax location is horrible: 1. Two salesmen gave me the wrong out the door price. 2. The car was not properly inspected prior to selling. 3. Two of the salesmen are time wasters (I'm 7 months pregnant) and they would have me wait for 45+ mins to just to get simple answers. 4. They don't do ACH transfers. So two of the salesmen (not going to name drop) gave me the same out the door price for the car. I had a physical check made from my bank and had the check shipped to me (because CarMax can't do ACH transfer.) I bring the check to CarMax and they say it's not the right amount since they have to tack on another $260.86 for tax purposes. I then complain saying that two of the salesmen specifically said it would cost x-amount of dollars and that's why I ordered the check for that amount. I didn't know they were going to change the OTD price on me after I had a check made from my bank. After explaining it to 2 managers, I finally cave in and I pay the additional cost because they provided me with $100 voucher for future services and an apology. An apology that I literally had to beg for since I kept asking to speak with the manager several times. And of course, when you ask to see the manager, that's another 45+ min wait. I finally bring the car home after 4 hours of waiting for this deal to go through and my husband sees a permanent scratch on the windshield (driver's side) 2 days later, the front driver's side tire is flat. Imagine having to change a flat tire just 2 days after buying a car! We had to get it to CarMax service so we change the flat tire and see that there's a plug to cover up the hole on the tire. It clearly states on their vehicle checklist, "no plug on tires." We take the car to service, talk to the manager on the floor that day and again, 3+ hour wait. This time, she says she's going to fix everything and get approvals but goes to lunch instead leaving me to wait. If I never ask what's going on, I'd be stuck there all day. Basically everyone in that CarMax knew what I went through and my situation and people just didn't care. They just kept apologizing and never put themselves in our shoes. Needless to say, we returned the car for a full refund which thankfully, they honored since it was within the day return period. Tony in Service was the only helpful and caring person at this location, which was appreciated. Everyone else just had a "tough luck" attitude. I would recommend going to the Buena Park CarMax or any other location but this one. I'd recommend test driving cars here but don't give them your business. Let me start by saying this our 6th vehicle purchase in the last 10 years from Carmax. We have maintained all of the vehicles we have purchased and have had no major issues. Customer service always goes above and beyond. We LOVE the no haggle prices. The salesmen have never been pushy and we've purchased from Ontario and Irvine as well. I would definitely recommend them Every time. We have only dealt with a local Dodge dealership recently with our daughter's truck purchase and it was a complete nightmare. Never, ever again. So I Had to make an account just to warn ppl . Ive bought over 15 cars from Carmax . I trade them in or sell them back to them to be honest Ive never questioned their offers before however this time a sales person brought this to my attention . I was going to sell them back my 2019 dodge Challenger with 56k miles . I was told I was the second owner and given a Clean history report. I took the car back to sell it to them and was going to buy another . like ive done before this time when i got the offer i was shocked to see the low offer because i was told the reason i was getting such a low offer was due to the car accident . i was shocked bevcause i was never in a car accident . turns out the car was ina car accident and repaired before I bought it from Carmax yet i was not informed i was mislead . 3 managers said they would fix this because its not fair they clearly made a mistake on their part with the carfax . Yet when I spoke to the store manger she Said that was to bad and she would not increase the offer that i had gotten a good price and if i called corporate . Very frustrating!! I purchased a $37k+ vehicle in January. It was such a quick turnaround, they transferred from another location and sold it to me without even washing it first. Aside from still finding dried caramel in the carpet and crayon on the seats that I'm still trying to remove, I've been made aware that my alignment was off, I needed 3 new tires along with other items that were making my vehicle UNSAFE to drive. I called Carmax asking them to fix these items and asked why they didn't tell me to bring it back for them to check when originally purchased. They only responded saying it's past the 90 days and I have to pay for these things myself. I am currently paying another $3,000+ just to drive this stupid car safely! We came in cause we knew what we wanted and that was a White Honda Civic with low mileage. I found it on their website and I saved it before coming in. The sales person Harry was a older gentleman that was nice and he did his job well. With the 6ft away it was hard to hear what he was saying. And we got to drive the car without him in the car. That was different. The car it self had some visible scratches and when he covered it with their pain it didn't not make the car s paint. After all the paper work, we got the car.
