However, the process of trading it in and getting money quickly was supremely easy- WAY easier and more reliable than private sales in my opinion. Then once we got here we finally decided to go back to CarMax for a car purchase and again it was very easy. No haggle stress, no super long day, just testing driving and buying. Pretty simple. Completely unprofessional and make up there own rules when confronted by a problem and when proven wrong by there own Carmax website and corporate team they just don't want to talk about the problem and told me I should probably buy a car somewhere else. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE & MANAGEMENT!! I drove from ocean city to check out a vehicle they had it listed online. When walked in an employee named ( Hannah )greeted us and offered her help , I told her exactly what I am looking for she said let's get on the computer and find out . After searching her inventory she told us we don't have any of this vehicle on our lot . So I replied I saw two of them last night on your website one was gray and the other one was black with red interior. She answered we never had anything like that . So I believed her and I thought I was confused with other dealers so I left and I was going to Pohanka next door to checkout a vehicle. When I left the store and I got on the main highway my wife noticed the two cars we came for parked next to each other on the front line . So I decided to go back because I assumed there was a misunderstanding or maybe that girl is new and didn't know what she is doing. As I walked in she was in the front so I went to her and I said politely " I jus saw the black car I told you about parked upfront next to a gray one " she said after her face got all red this one is sold !! you can see it if you like but you can't drive it " so I asked her why you didn't tell me that the first time ! ? She didn't answer me and said would you like to see it ? I said no but I would like to see your manager. She turned around and went to two men sitting on a desk on the side and started telling them a long story while they were looking at me !!! Eventually one of them came over his name was (Jason or Justin )and told me this car is not for sale and it was ordered for someone and was never listed on the website !!! So I told him , then how did I know about it and the exact details ?? And why she didn't tell me that when I asked her about it the first time ??? His response was I wasn't there and I don't know what she told you exactly . !!!!! without any apology or trying to make me feel better he said we can show you the car but you can't drive it . I replied no thanks and I walked out . When I got in my car I opened their website and that car was still listed for sale . What a joke!!! Bad customer service and bad management ! Almost a month later I get a certified letter from a tow company in Baltimore area for the car I traded in. The car had no tags on it because I turned them in. I sent emails and a manager said she was working on it. That was November 26, today is December 23. Bad business practices. All I asked for was a letter clearing my name from this. I had a very bad experience at CarMax in Salisbury, Md. The trade in process went well and the offer for the trade in was decent. However, I noticed several cars on the lot had damage or rust on them. I picked a 2017 Honda Civic to purchase. Before I signed the papers to purchase the vehicle, I mentioned to the salesperson Brittany-- that several repairs needed to be taken care of. There were a few dings, a large scratch on the bumper and a filthy windshield with suction marks. She promised these would be taken care of that day. At first they said it would be taken care of that day and I would be given a rental. Then I was told to come back the next day and the repairs would be made--the reason given that I was not yet in the system. I took the car back the next day for the repairs to be made. They called me the next day in the early afternoon and said all the repairs were done. I thought it was too quick to have all the repairs done. After work I went to pick up the car. They only repair that was made was the scratch to the bumper which was did in a sloppy manner. The paint they put on the scratch did not match my paint color. I looked at the work order receipt they spent exactly one hour on my repairs. I had everything in writing - Hannah filled out the work order. She exhibited a poor attitude through out the process. I then spoke to the manager Shawn who refused to fix issue the issue, he is the General manager of the Salisbury, MD dealership. He stated his dealership does not detail any of the cars on his lot. He kept telling me to just return the car. He also stated I could go to a car wash and get the car detailed and he would reimburse me $50! The repairs on the car were at minimum several hundred dollars to fix. I even hand a windshield shop in Delaware look at the windshield/sunroof and the gentleman there said, CarMax should atleast refund me a few hundred dollars. I feel the manager Shawn tries to intimidate customers. He stated the repairs meet my standards. I then stated "whatever happened to meeting the customers standards" he then went silent. I do not think this car max location is trustworthy, because they did not honor what they Put in writing. Also, the car financing software they use is not accurate and is deceptive. They only offer you 2 options instead of three. Be very careful when dealing with this location--- they are ok to sell a car-but do not purchase a vehicle from them. I also called the CarMax 1800 customer service phone # on Friday about my complaints. I never received a call back from the rep named Jennifer even though I was promised a return call by Monday. I finally called her back on a Thursday. She said she had chipped her tooth and had surgery and was unable to call me back! She did not listen to any of my concerns. That was fine and we accepted it. Yesterday my husband got a confirmation email and text saying it would be delivered next day, no problem. All of my questions were answered completely, the car was here well before the end of the promised time frame, and I was able to buy it the next day. I never buy new cars - found the one I was looking for in Virginia Beach - they transferred it to Salisbury free and once it was ready I checked it out and decided it was what I wanted. But, there was a MINOR mar in one fender and a tiny tear in the armrest - they insisted on fixing those so I took it home for the weekend to make sure everything was working right and took it back Monday morning - they gave me a loaner and 3 days later fender looked brand new and the armrest was replaced!
