Long time Carmax clients, came in to see what you had on hand in this store. Didn't find anything and that's fine, I know you could bring in a car if needed. BUT, to our misfortune we got Robert as our representative. Pretty much called us liars more than once, then said we didn't need to test drive a car because we drove something similar somewhere else. Apparently he knows it all. I have never met a sales person at Carmax who is so negative, and rude. This company time and time again has proven to be nothing but a headache. Where do I start: 1) The autofinance office is essentially useless when there are issues with payoff checks and customer support. There are no managers or supervisors to assist in errors (on carmax's side, mind you) so no one knows what to do. This office is also totally disconnected from other areas of the company (the actual store you bought the car, corporate, etc.) so it is of no use to assume they can talk to other branches. 2) when trying to get your bank to communicate with them, it will take over 2 hours to get an actual answer. Regardless of issue. 3) the buyers order you receive from them (SIGNED) is useless as well if seems. Somewhere along the lines they will add money (illegal) to it without your confirmation. This extra money is finance charging due to THEIR error not making your bank a lean holder. 4) when confronting this issue of a $400 balance despite your car being paid off, they will not help you in the slightest. They expect THE CUSTOMER to pay them $400 for an error on their end of not keeping track of paperwork and drafts from the bank. This company does not care about the customer in the slightest. The business office, finance department, and store manager will NOT help try to figure out the issue. They will only direct you to a phone number. Which basically gets you no where. I do not recommend Carmax to anyone whatsoever. Pay the extra money at a dealer where you KNOW people will have their crap together. read more

During our car shopping experience, this was the only dealership we visited that I had an all around pleasant experience at. When we walked into the lobby we were immediately greeted, but never had the "pack" of sales people pounce on us like a pack of rabid hyenas. Instead a polite and soft spoken gentleman asked if he could direct us to an area in the lot that we could browse the vehicles. After walking us to the SUV area he told us if we needed anything, just wave him over and he would come and help us. He then went back to the awning at the back of the building and let us browse the cars. All of the SUV's were fairly priced and appeared to be in good condition. They had a good sized selection of models, sizes, and price range. Even with this inventory we didn't see exactly what we wanted so we returned and thanked him for his time. He let us know that if we found what we wanted at any Carmax online in the country he could have it shipped in for a test drive at no cost to us. He then thanked us for stopping in and even asked if we would like a cold beverage to go. Clean nice place, polite and courteous sales people, vast inventory and a very comfortable place to look at used vehicles. read more

This dealer is completely worthless and a joke. We came in with an 2014 Audi A4 Premium Plus with S Line package. It had less than 8k miles and had a clean Carfax. After doing a "appraisal" for 3 whole minutes, they decided to quote us a "great deal" at 26k. NADA quotes this car at trade in value of 36k. This dealership should be shut down for the level of unprofessionalism and disrespect that everyone involved with the company shows. They have absolutely no idea what they're doing, they only know how to try to rob people who are unaware of what their car is worth. Taking advantage of people and then selling their cars 15k - 20k more then they bought it for is a prime example of how low and disgusting they are as a company. I will be notifying the better business bureau on their horrible, disrespectful performance and complete and utter ignorance. You should be ashamed Carmax. read more

I've purchased a couple of vehicles in the past at Carmax (Sanford) with overall positive experiences. I recently had a car transferred in from another location to potentially purchase. I was severely disappointed with the presentation and condition of the vehicle. Interior was not clean and had quite an odor. Exterior did not present well either as the wheel wells and tires had remnants of mud. Additionally, there was quite a bit of road noise from the tires which had not been replaced. They had differing levels of wear. In my opinion it definitely did not live up to the quality I was expecting for a Carmax vehicle. They were not willing to make any concessions to correct the tire issue. I'm also out the $399 it cost to ship it here. If they are going to ask a premium price, I expect a premium used vehicle. Would be cautious in transferring in vehicles from other locations. read more

Came here to sell my wife's car. Was immediately greeted and helped by Sergio. The appraisal process took less than 30 minutes, which we spent walking around looking at the cars. The price they came up with was right at our bottom line, so we did it. We came back with the car and went straight to the business office, who took care of everything including the tag and title. My wife and I were both astonished at how easy the whole process was. The only reason I'm giving four instead of five was that the offer came in right at our bottom line -- had they offered a little more, like KBB trade-in value, it would've been a perfect experience. I saw several cars here that were clean and seem to be in excellent condition. Our salesperson Nancy Barbosa was so pleasant, patient, and sincere. I felt she was genuinely interested in what our car needs were. We did purchase a 2012 suv there haggle free. Even the guy in finance (Ryan) was courteous and professional. They have a wide variety of vehicles, and the sales people are friendly (no sharks). The only reason I didn't rate them 5 stars is because I felt I should have gotten a little more on my trade in. I went into Carmax Sanford just to look at a specific list of vehicles and I met with Devonte Howell, sales consultant. On the first day I simply wanted to sit in the vehicles to see if I could fit because I am very tall. Devonte was not only very accommodating allowing me to sit in several vehicles but he even made suggestions on other vehicles I may fit in as well as gave me pointers to help improve my car shopping experience. I left and returned approximately two weeks later as I had narrowed down my shopping list and wanted to specifically drive three trucks on the lot. I asked for Devonte who again was very helpful. He allowed me to drive all three trucks and was not the least bit pushy or domineering as most car salesman can be. He offered advice yet again and I advised if I ended up purchasing from Carmax that I would definitely come see him. I ended up purchasing the truck from another dealership but wanted to praise Devonte for his professionalism and willingness to help without pressuring me. Bought a 2015 Honda CRV at CarMax. Found the vehicle on their website - price was no haggle price and everything went well during the purchase. No pressure during the sale. After 3 weeks we realized the car really did not work for my husband - caused knee and foot pain because it wasn't ergonomically right (not the fault of CarMax, we thought we knew what we wanted and only did a fairly short test drive and didn't drive that much at first after the sale). Even though this was past the 5-day money back time frame, CarMax worked with us to get a new vehicle with only minimal loss. They didn't just give us trade in value like most places would have (which would have been a few thousand $ loss) but just charged a fee as if we had rented the vehicle. Our sales consultant Mike worked with us for hours to sit in just about every vehicle on the lot to try to find one that ergonomically works for us - my husband and I both have problems with knees, back, etc. We settled on a 2017 Ford Escape. That one hurt our backs but this time we made sure to drive extensively so we quickly knew if it worked for us - two days later we knew it wouldn't. Still within the 5-days, no questions asked time frame, and recontacted Mike. Mike remembered that the runner up was a 2015 Jeep Cherokee - we only settled for the Ford because someone else was already buying the Jeep and the Ford seemed fine at first. Mike got a Jeep transferred (no charge) from another CarMax location within a few days. We turned the Ford back in (no charge) and ended up with the Jeep. The Jeep is working great - this is a keeper. Mike is a saint for keeping up with our problems. He really worked with us to finally find the right vehicle. Would highly recommend CarMax and Mike in particular. read more

Too many bad experiences at this dealer, 1st car i bought had clean car history ended up returning the car because it turns out the car was hit in the driver side back panel, it had body filler and paint job. Dealer offer an exchange and transfer in 2 other cars which took like 3 weeks to arrive to the dealer, one of the cars transferred in was also clearly in an some kind of wreck paint job was horrid and had a clean car history record. By the 2nd almost 3rd week i got tired of waiting and saw a 2010 GTI at the dealer which I bought the body was in good condition and had a clean car record history. Drove of the lot and the check engine light came on. Took the car back a couple days later and was given a loaner car while repairs where done to my car. Get called back a day later to pick up the car it was ready, pick it up on my way home the light came back on i turned around and took the car to CarMax again they give me another loaner. Get called 2 days later the car was ready for pick up, they replaced 2 o2 sensors and the catalytic. Problem gone, use the car for the weekend the transmission made weird noises, took the car back and after like a week of arguments with them they replaced the entire clutch kit on the car, meanwhile i drove different loaner cars. Took the car home and wash it in the weekend at the carwash, the paint from the wheels peeled out, call carmax again and they took the car in to refinish all 4 wheels i had ti drive loners again for almost 3 weeks while they did the work, 1st time a tech at the service center drop a wheel on the floor and I went to see the damage, i then notice i could scratch the clear coat finish from all 4 wheels with my finger nail, they offer to refinish the rims again while they had my car i told them to check my reap wiper it was not working, they call me back and tell me the wiper motor, arm and blade where missing so they ordered the parts and installed it and that took a few more days. They put loaner wheels on my car so i could use it while my wheels where getting refinished again for the 2nd time, 2 days later i take the car back with a weird noise in 1st gear, they claim the noise is the aftermarket exhaust system the car has, i did not agree but the refuse to fix the noise, the dealer calls me and tells me to pick up my car that the wheels where done and installed and that the noise on first gear was not a problem and that after 1 dealer tech and VW tech agree they heard the noise and he could not hear it that the noise was not relative to anything other that "Gas Starvation" when letting the clutch out. I have a copy of the VW Dealer service department stating the sound is relative and that it is there. Anyhow the CarMax dealer refused to address the issue. I hope it does not become a major problem for my car some time down the line. I pick up my car and the wheels look great. I brought the car home and wash the wheels with wheel cleaner and car soap, guess what the finish on the wheels all 4 stained out so badly they look like acid was sprayed to them. The entire process here lasted about 4 months, i was going to the dealer after work from 2 to 3 times per week to deal with all this issues, the loaner cars I was provided close to 7 or 8 different loaners keep in mind this cars are from their lot which are for sale to customers. I had about 4 out of the 7 or 8 loaner cars i drove having to be replaced, one of them the steering wheel was lose yes lose, another the A/C went out while i had it, the last one I had after some rain the brakes started to make a very loud noise and some of the other loaners clearly had paint jobs. As of my GTI, i already bought an Original OEM exhaust with only 3,000 miles in it and will get in installed sometime next month and hopefully the sound on first gear goes away. As of for my wheels that retail used for $800.00 i will write to human resources to see what they offer to do for a good repair or replacement but i am not getting my hopes up. I just spent about $800.00 in new upgraded wheels for my car because the ones the dealer "Repair" where just looking horrid. I will post some of the pics i gather in this ordeal, i also have videos but wont post them here. Keep in mind all this cars are years 2010 and up with less than 40,000 miles in them including mines. Do I recommend CarMax? From what I saw and experienced I would say no. What did i learn? To not trust their "CarMax" certified label or their "AutoCheck" car history reports. Go to other dealers that offer preowned certified cars, Those type of certified cars are higher quality cars in my opinion. CarMax has great marketing and great sales people who are very nice but the products, standards, and services are poor. Update Jan 2015 CarMax decided to write me a check to refund me the money for the wheels i bought because they where not able to repair the factory wheels. read more

We love Carmax and always tell everyone we know how great they are. We recently drove to Florida on vacation. On our way back to our hotel we thought about stopping by a Carmax to look at their vans. I set us up with an online appointment so we could speak to someone when we arrived. Before we even got there I sales rep, Nick gave us a call and got a lot of information from us. We mentioned a specific can we had seen on the Carmax app and he said he would have it ready. Sure enough! We arrived and the van was waiting for us. Nick also showed us all the van options and we ended up finding a great van with incredibly low miles and condition. At this point it was getting late but Nick stuck with us. Our transaction was a little more difficult as we had an out of state van to sell to them and out of state registration to take out can back to Colorado. Manny was the kind fellow who helped us with the paperwork and he was very kind and thorough. The process was seamless and in less then two hours we were walking out with keys to our new van. I would tell anyone in the world to go to Carmax. We have now sold them three cars and bought two and we will NEVER go anywhere else! read more

I had an appointment at the Sanford Carmax at 10 a.m. to have my truck appraised. I received confirmation from an associate that he would be there. When I got to the dealership at exactly 10 a.m. I was told, "Sorry, XXXX is not here yet. He should be here soon." I told the attendant that I was there for a an appraisal and that I had an appointment and he responded, "Oh, I am sorry. We have no buyers here now. It will be at least 15-20 minutes until they could start the process." . . . So let me get this straight: I drove all the way from Oviedo to make my appointment, and when I get there neither my representative nor my "buyer" is there to do what they said they would??? The only thing the attendant would offer was, "You can leave the vehicle with us, or come back later." All the while there are 5-10 associates just standing around doing nothing. Poor.
