Carmel is the newest addition to the Buckhead Village scene. It has coastal chic charm with a menu full of light and savory bites. There is a large bar and patio area for casual cocktails or bites as well as a large dining room hidden in the back. I enjoyed a group dinner where we enjoyed the scallops, chicken, veggies and more. Location: The restaurant is located in front of Southern Gentleman. So basically Carmel faces the building that has Southern Gentleman. I would just recommend valet parking your car because the parking garage can be just as expensive if you're at the restaurants for a while socializing. Food: There were 5 ppl in my party so we ordered lots of food to try from appetizers to main courses and sides. The Cebiche (yep that's their version) was mid, nothing to write home about. The best part about the meal were the Sides (Sweet Potatoes & Broccoli in particular). Tried the Seafood Pappardelle and sent it back because it was missing seafood and it was bland...too bland for $36. I ended up getting the Grilled Cobia instead. Great flaky fish, could've done without the orange annatto sauce though so get that on the side and just ask for a lemon wedge. Price: Since there were 5 of us and we ordered enough items to share amongst the table, we spent $112 per person which included the 2 drinks we had per person, soda water, several starters and appetizers and several main courses. Recommendation: Milk Bread (similar to a sweet Hawaiian roll IMO, the butter is the key here) and the Crab & Avocado appetizers. The Grilled Snapper and Scallops were the best. I have been looking forward to trying Carmel that recently opened across the street from me ever since I heard about its unique concept several months ago. I finally had the opportunity to try Carmel on a chill Thursday night that I had free for a solo dinner treat to myself! The restaurant has a pleasing ambiance upon entering. I was dining solo so I opted for bar seating. Lively, beautiful Buckhead crowd. However things sharply went down hill when the bar server through a napkin at me without uttering a word or even looking at me. Totally caught me off guard with the blatant disregard and lack of civil engagement. When he finally came to address me I asked him what that was all about and he brushed it off with an excuse that he was talking to other patrons seated next to me. Sure, yea whatever. I ordered the beef tartare as an appetizer and it happened to be the driest, most subpar beef tartare I ever had while dining. And I order beef tartare whenever it is available on a menu which is quite often for the places I frequent. The cocktail I ordered, the Basque to Baja, was a cute drink aesthetically. But unfortunately was an undrinkable syrupy concoction. For $18 I expected a phenomenal cocktail. I was not going any further downhill with this horrible experience and gave the server my credit card to make a quick exit. Buckhead and Atlanta metro has incredible restaurant options with excellent service and attention to detail. This place fell incredibly short of my expectations. Do not recommend. read more

I've been eager to try this restaurant for a while, and I finally got the chance to last night. I made a reservation and was immediately seated upon arrival (we love that!). The food, interior, and ambiance were all incredible. I'm a fan of coastal decor, and this place nailed it. Absolutely stunning! The staff was also incredibly friendly and efficient. The food was incredible. My friend and I opted for a selection of appetizers to share, which is perfect if you want to sample various items from the menu. We ordered: milk buns -- 8/10 * delicious soft and pillowy bread with a decadent togaraohs butter - note: they only serve one octopus -- 9/10 * perfectly cooked and beautifully plated mussels -- 7/10 * chilled, but still delicious - definitely an acquired taste - skip this if you don't like vinegar lobster cannelloni -- 10/10 * creamy, flavorful, with fresh lobster and caviar - my personal favorite out of all the dishes we tried I had a fantastic time here. For food, we got the crab bacalaito, charred carrots, pork belly tostadas, and the milk buns. My favorites were the tostadas and the milk buns! I was excited to visit the newest addition to the buckhead village shops ... carmel is beautiful and neutral. Very pleasing decor. There was a private party in the front so outdoor dining and bar were unavailable. The back room had a large party adjacent to our table (very loud) so we moved along the wall. Loud loud loud but slightly better. Ordered starters (shrimp and gem salad) - and food was tasty. Service was excellent. Only fault was stacking plates on the table ... but it's hard to get well trained staff so I fault management for training on that. For price point, I expect a little more. Mains were great and left overs boxed. For price paid, there are other options with a nice vibe where a conversation can be had without screaming across the table. May return for the patio or bar, but not likely to return to the dining room. read more

There are arguably three distinct sections for Carmel - one is the outdoor area with some seats/tables...meant to help people watch the surrounding Buckhead Village. The second sits soon after entering, i.e., an oval cocktail bar with a few seats on the side. And the third is the main dining section...with some very cool (and mysterious?) light fixtures hanging from the ceiling...offering everything from Godfather booths on the edges to tables (of varying sizes) in the center. Carmel is meant to reflect a coastal Middle Eastern cuisine. Technically, I believe it refers to itself an an Israeli diner. Practically, it is much more than that. Food options are plentiful and cater to several tastes. We had quite a bit for lunch: The octopus dish was wonderful in that it was on the softer side (unlike its usual chewy texture). We also had both lentil dishes...the appetizer (cold) and larger entree (warm). Lentils are among the healthier vegetables in general, so we didn't mind trying both. Definitely consider one of them as I think they do a great job pairing the lentils with complementary ingredients. We had the gem salad; the lettuce leaves were large enough to the point where we would even concoct our own mixed dish, placing the lentils on the leaves and savoring the crunch that comes along with it. The greens in ginger soy sauce were great as a relatively healthy side option. And we had both desserts...worth trying if you are willing to down more carbs! I should point out that our drinks were excellent as well (Pinot Noir and Welchman Hall Spritz). The servers were off-the-charts fantastic. Can't wait to go back for other meals. read more

The food was nasty and does NOT EQUAL THE PRICE if I'm paying $100 on a dish it actually needs to be tasteful and good the oysters were terrible so were the crab cakes and the chicken. I don't leave many bad reviews so take this review as a careful consideration of an experience - I will not recommend this place to anyone. We had reservations for a group of 8 people at around 8pm on a Sunday. We showed up on time, parked in the Buckhead Village parking lot assuming that parking would be validated. Once we checked in, it took the hostess about 15 mins to re-arrange tables to accommodate us. Once we were seated we had our server attend to us promptly, which was the saving grace. Water, drinks and apps were all ordered. Few minutes later we ordered our main course too. Thoughts: * Cocktail list does not have any drink with whiskey, but I would recommend their old fashioned - just ask * Ordered the special (not sure the liquor in this), Mario's Modern Mix (brandy) as well as the Acupulco Way (mezcal based drink) but the drinks felt watered down to me * If you have only a select few cocktails on your menu atleast those should be good * Apps we ordered: Hamachi Crudo (decent), Tuna Tartare (no seasoning, that means no citrus too), Bone Marrow (decent), Pork Belly Tostadas (pork belly was just super dry), Crab Bacalaito (stuffed crab in flour and fried - decent), Quinoa (ok) * Apps are tiny so you will probably need to order more than you think * Mains: Chicken (tasted raw spices, just a plate of chicken - no carbs or greens to compete the dish), shrimp and grits (grits were not creamy enough, felt like it had been sitting on the counter waiting to be served), grouper (ok), wagyu steak (felt under-seasoned and not worth the $$$, tough to eat), fish tortas (ok) Skipped the desert not knowing what to expect. Honestly, I would skip this restaurant all together. Also they supposedly validate parking in the Buckhead Village parking lot but we ended up paying for parking because the validation did not work. Went here for my birthday dinner. This is definitely a hidden gem. Its located in the Buckhead Village area. Parking was $8 in the parking deck. The decor in the restaurant is simple tranquility. Almost like you walked near a desert. Comfy seating for sure. My server India was professional and great personailty. She was attentive and made great reccomendations. My drink of choice was the Scarlet Shore Gin Cocktail. Its refreshing but not too sweet. This is the perfect place to host a bday dinner as there is plenty of seating for large parties. My appetizer of choice was the Avocado and crab tostada. It was so light and yummy. Its also shareable. For dinner I chose the Swordfish. It was grilled to perfection. The portion size was great. The sides i chose were the blackened whole okra was my favorite. I wasnt expecting the charred flavor. For dessert they surprised me with a milk cake desert and a glass of wine. Loved the wine, not the milk cake. I would of preferred they ask me which dessert since Im not a nut person. Overall loved my experience and I will be back. My first time here was back in September 2023. My friends and I came in for drinks at the bar and had a horrible experience. The espresso martinis were great but there was a man who was drunk and bothering us for 20 minutes. He got in my friend's face and was touching us. The bartenders made eye contact with us and asked if he was bothering us. We all said yes but nothing was done about it. We finished our drinks and asked for the check. It was disappointing that we were charged full price considering the harassment we were experiencing that was seen by everyone at the bar. What we hoped to be a great start to our night nearly sent us home due to the tolerance of this horrible behavior. It didn't help seeing security out in the plaza that could've been utilized. A plan of action needs to be established so situations like this don't occur again. Words cannot encapsulate how uncomfortable and frustrating this experience was. Visit June 2024: after last minute concert cancellations :( the girls got a quick reservation nearby at Carmel. The interior is beautiful. We were seated in a secluded nook and it was esthetically pleasing. We got espresso martinis which were delectable! I tried the octopus which was really tasty. We shared sweet potatoes and broccolini for the table. The sweet potatoes were soooo good i could've eaten two orders alone. The broccolini was cooked well but the flavor was unimpressionable. Found Carmel on an Eater Article, which I normally trust 1000% - this place was just, odd. Came in for Sunday brunch and we were the only people dining, the entirety of our meal (eerie) They had to send over the bartender, since the one waitress on staff hadn't shown up yet. He tried his best to explain the menu but when asked, what do you specialize in? He answered "we have a little of all around the world" cool, but that's kind of hard? Just didn't feel like there was any rhyme or reason to the menu. The ceviche we started with was the best thing we had, it had sweet potato puree around the edge of the bowl. They only give you two large chips, and encouraged you to spend 4 more dollars to get extra, so we did. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my husband got the burger, which were both recommended. I also ordered the bread service (I think it was called milk and bun?) It was good but our waitress took the bread before we were done and then disappeared. The man in the corner had to go get her from the back when he noticed our food just sitting at the counter. Value here just isn't there unfortunately. It's very coastal. It is low light in the dining area. However, the bar receives light in from the windows. Overall, it's a very moody and dark lit environment. The food was amazing. I had the Georgia Trout. It was buttery,flaky, and I will most definitely have it again. My friend had the Hanger Steak and potatoes and it was also cook very well. We went to Carmel las night to celebrate my sisters birthday. I had heard of the restaurant through social media and it seemed like a nice place to celebrate! Our reservations were for 5:30pm and we walked right in and they sat us at a really nice booth in a corner. Our waiter came over and asked what type of water we would like while we looked over the menu and helped us celebrate her day with some champagne which was a really nice touch. After a couple of minutes of looking over the menu we decided that we were more interested in the second wave dishes than the mains and waited till our server came back to ask their opinion. He gave us some really great recommendations and we ended getting the lobster cannelloni, pork belly tostadas, milk bun. Out of these four the lobster cannelloni and milk buns were definitely our favorites and we even ended up ordering the milk bun again! The shrimp es okay but had an odd taste to it that we couldn't really describe and were expecting more of a curry taste when the menu said coconut-peanut broth. The pork belly tostadas were good they just weren't our top favorites but they weren't bad either. We also ordered more drinks the Baque to Baja and a glass of their sparkling rosé along with the recommended dessert the Tropical Baba which was another of the best things we ate this night! It was like a smooth circular key lime pie with a burst of a citrus sorbet on the side that went perfectly together! One of the non food related downsides was that they say that they validate parking and I went to the desk and asked the hostess confirmed and said she had entered it into the system but, when we went to leave we were still charged for parking which was a bit frustrating after such a great experience even after checking/asking twice. read more

One of our servers Mr. Pope went above and beyond to make sure everyone in our party had everything they requested and he checked on us often just in case we needed anything else. I know inflation is real and costs in the restaurant industry have gone up, but $55/lb for snapper is jaw-dropping. $54 for a grouper entree was also pretty shocking. I am glad we stopped in, and I do hope to return, but at $350 for a meal, there's not much hope to make this a frequently recurring location.
