(One star only because zero isn't an option) Our experience at Southern Gentleman in Buckhead was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. The only positive part of the afternoon was being seated a few minutes before our reservation time. After that, everything went downhill. We waited approximately 10 minutes just to receive water, and then another 15 minutes before our server returned to take care of our table. Once we placed our order, the server had to return three separate times to verify what she had written down. We ordered two simple cocktails, yet one arrived as a shot instead of the drink ordered. We sent it back, only to watch the server bring the same drink back out and deliver it to the table behind us. After sitting there for roughly ten minutes, that family correctly informed the server it wasn't theirs. Rather than having a fresh drink prepared, the server simply picked it up, walked around the corner, and attempted to bring the exact same drink back to our table. At that point, we took the drink directly to the bar and requested that it be remade. The food itself was average at best. The mac and cheese was the only item that stood out in a positive way. Unfortunately, we weren't the only table experiencing problems. All three tables surrounding us appeared to be dealing with significant service issues of their own. A restaurant called "Southern Gentleman" should embody hospitality, professionalism, and attention to detail. Our experience reflected none of those qualities. If you value your time, money, and family dining experience, I would strongly recommend choosing another restaurant in Buckhead. Came for brunch on a Saturday morning at 11am. No problem getting seated right away but by the time we were leaving there was a wait so definitely get there early or make reservations on weekends. We started the meal with a seasonal Sam Adams and their house Old Fashioned. I found the cocktail to be well mixed. My friend and I were not that hungry but really wanted to check this place out for her birthday so we ordered a bunch of appetizers. My sister picked this restaurant the evening of July 4th, it was in Buckhead somewhere. The name of restaurant sounds a lot like a gentleman club but it is indeed just food and spirits. It is 2nd floor, trendy hip spot. The menu is a bit limited on entrees but enough to have some variety. I was looking for something healthy low on calories and was drawn to cabbage steak w cauliflower purée. In my minds eye I pictured the cabbage shaped into a steak size but it was more like a head of cabbage in a fourth with a sharp steak knife. You can't dress up cabbage much but the accompanying purée helped. The sweet potato grit cake was delicious w a small side of cooked spinach I think. I would not get a cabbage steak again but it's good that I know what to expect now. My service was fine except the server nearly gave me a ribeye when I said cabbage steak. We started out with fried green tomatoes and the hush puppies. Both were equally a 10/10. The pimento cheese paired with the fried green tomatoes was just ugh! chef's kiss. As for the hush puppies... it had a goat cheese cream and a syrup underneath, for dipping. I don't really know how to put it into words, but I was so taken back by how good they were, the consistency tasted like cornbread so that mixed with the syrup and the goat cheese, I was just like wow what is this?!? for our entrées, we ordered the avocado toast with smoked salmon, the southern grit bowl, and a side of pancakes. I was really torn on what to order at first. I was torn between the short rib and the grit bowl ...but Branden recommended that I follow through with the grip bowl... And I'm so glad I did. I made a reservation for 1:30 p.m. but got there around 1:00 p.m., hoping I might be seated a little early since I was dining solo. I asked if I could just go ahead and order the prix fixe menu at the bar, especially since I had already put a card on file for the reservation and didn't want any billing confusion. She told me the Easter menu was only available for guests seated in the dining area. No problem. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered their She's a Peach cocktail. It was refreshing, light, and perfect for a spring day. But here's the twist: after some new folks sat next to me, I overheard the bartender walk them through the exact prix fixe menu I had just been told was unavailable at the bar. That contradiction didn't sit great, but I decided to stay patient and wait to be seated properly. Once I was sat outdoors in the covered patio area, which was perfect for the day's weather, I got to enjoy what I came for. We have been coming back to this place time after time and leaving satisfied every time. Our first two visits we just sat at the bar and had the espresso and cappuccino martinis. These are super velvety and smooth, probably some of the best in Buckhead. The cappuccino martini is a nice twist on the normal espresso martini, being a bit creamier and not too coffee forward. Food was delicious, we had a party of 15 and everyone enjoyed their meal!!
