I loved this hotel! The room was clean, smelled good, and had such nice decor. The fireplace was one of my favorite parts. It was a cold day in Carmel, and it came in handy. The location was perfect, and allowed my boyfriend and I to walk to everything. The woman working at the front desk was also very sweet. Will be staying here again the next time I visit!

The reception was lukewarm and underwhelming. The lady at check in was strictly business and very robotic, not personable at all. But the lodging itself is super cozy and charming! My family stayed in the Dolores III cottage. It's a small one bedroom (without doors/walls to separate) with 1.5 baths, front yard with porch/patio, small full kitchen, 2 small closets, and washer/dryer combo. Two TVs - one in living room and one in "bedroom", two dressers in the "bedroom". It's perfect for 2 adults or 2 adults with 2 young children. It is super adorable. I love how it looks after dark with the soft lighting throughout. I'd definitely stay again.

Possibly the cutest place we were stayed. We stayed in the San Carlos room with our 10 month old puppy Raisin. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Reminded me of Big Bear by the Beach. Loved the toiletries. Nice large bathroom and had ADA compliant seat and bars to hold on to for my mom. Instructions for the gas fireplace was clear and check in staff was super nice. They have a ice machine behind the check in building. Felt like I was in a OG fairy tale. Just outside was the sound of a fountain. Very peaceful to fall asleep to. Parking on 4th street has no restrictions. Bathroom was it's own large room with space for styling tools. Once the fireplace started it got real warm overnight. Coastal weather gets chilly so be sure to pack sweaters and hoodies.

Nice Dutch door to our room.

I surprised my girlfriend with a weekend getaway to Monterey to see the Rebels and Renegades Music Festival. I was pretty last minute getting a reservation. When I booked our room , I noticed check-in was 3:00 pm. I wanted to catch a performance at the festival at 2:45, and the last act ended at 11:00 pm. So I asked if we could check in early. The desk clerk said she couldn't guarantee early check-in , but the rooms were usually ready by two if we wanted to try. I decided I would go to the festival and if we were allowed to leave the fairgrounds and return later, we would catch the performance I wanted, go check into the Fireplace Inn, and return. I didn't want to late check-in after 11:00. At about 1:45, I got a text message from the Inn saying my room was ready and we could check in! This blew me away, in a good way. I had never heard of a hotel doing that. We left after our show, and checked in at the Inn. The desk clerk was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was really cute and clean. The location was perfect, right in the middle of town. We walked to dinner and right across the street to breakfast in the morning. We also walked from the hotel about 8 short blocks to the cove and beach. We were a little slow checking out, and again the desk clerk was very nice, and we weren't charged. I would definitely stay again.

The experience was also disturbed by how unwilling, and unhelpful the receptionist / front desk woman was when we attempted to check in (she was an older Hispanic, heavy set woman). We explained that we were also dining at their restaurant, Aubergine (on premises) and we were hoping to be let into our room only one hour before check-in (3pm vs. 4pm), so that we could prepare ourselves properly for our 2-Michelin Star meal there at 5pm. Mind you, we also requested this when our reservation was made directly through their website (2 months in advance) + we were some of the only dinner guests at their restaurant that were spending the night. This receptionist was unbelievably rude I had to remind her that I was the guest! Later, they were able to get us in. I didn't understand why she could not be professional given their claim to service and luxury, sadly we experienced neither from her. Literally everyone else, which happened to be male, was extremely kind, attentive and helpful! ***For the price per night, the quality versus luxury ratio was not there for us.*** And with the rude, unprofessional behavior that almost guarantees no return. Hopefully they can get better staff and upgrades underway. It would be a shame to keep "letting it go" as it seems that they are doing now.

Opened in 2022, it feels brand new yet already timeless, with design that's both elegant and warm. The rooms? Incredible. Heated bathroom floors (yes, heated floors), a complimentary snack bar and fridge stocked with goodies, a sleek Dyson hairdryer, and even a fancy bidet -- every detail has been thought through. Our patio looked out toward the ocean, and at night you could hear the waves. But the real star of the show is breakfast. The coffee is excellent, the quiches are light and flavorful, and the almond croissants... wow. Hands down the best croissants I've ever had. I would come back just for those. Service was top-notch from start to finish. The staff made us feel so welcome -- kind, attentive, and genuinely happy to help. Add in the location (just steps from the beach), and this place checks every single box. If you're looking for a Carmel getaway that blends luxury with charm, Villa Mara is it.

The room wasn't huge but had everything we needed for 1 night. You could tell they took a lot of time to ensure that the guests would be completely comfortable and have everything they need. They do offer a welcome drink that you can have upon arrival or whenever you'd like - we opted for the drink before we headed out to dinner and we were able to sit by the fireplace on a cozy couch. They offer cake to all guests at night in the lobby/bar area in addition to any of the snacks in the room. Breakfast was included although we were really excited about this other place in town. From what I saw the breakfast looked amazing! There's no parking lot, but there seemed to be plenty of places on the street. It is right in the middle of a neighborhood but a quick drive into Downtown Carmel!

One of the more expensive rooms on property, the courtyard 'suite,' is adjacent to the lounge area, so we heard conversation right outside our window until after 10pm. There was no effort to ask the group to move to another spot that would have been less disruptive, despite my ask to the front desk. We were charged $50 extra per child for our family of 2 adults and 2 children for a suite that has two rooms and two king beds. They have 4 charging stations for EV's, however parking is not enforced. There were non EV vehicles parked in those spaces the entirety of brief stay, so unfortunately we were inconvenienced by not being able to charge at a planned stopping point on our road trip. Next time I come to Carmel I'll be researching alternatives.

We booked one of the double rooms with a fireplace. While the room itself was fine, the walls and ceilings are extremely thin. From around 9pm to 1:00 AM, we could clearly hear footsteps from the room above us, along with conversations. It didn't seem like the guests upstairs were being intentionally disruptive -- it felt more like an issue with how the property is built and the lack of sound insulation. We did call the front desk and asked if they could notify the guests upstairs. After that, they were more mindful of their steps, which we appreciated, but we could still hear them trying to whispering. We chose this property because we were looking for a peaceful place to rest, reset, and enjoy quiet evenings. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. For the amount we paid for a weekend stay, we expected much better soundproofing and overall comfort. Sadly, we won't be returning or recommending this property to our family or friends.
