Carmelo's is a family-owned business that has two locations in the Capitol Hill area. They also make their tortillas in house! My boyfriend and I shared 6 tacos ($2.65/each) and he got an asada (marinated grill steak) burrito ($8.50). For the tacos, we got both the asada and pollo adobado (chicken breast marinated in adobo sauce). Each taco came with cilantro, onions, salsa verde and salsa raja. They also gave a side of pickled veggies and lime. The burrito was filled with similar items along with rice, cheese and pinto beans. The marinade on the meat was so good and wasn't dry at all! The tortillas were so yummy too! One thing to note though is that the red salsa is pretty spicy. I think the burrito was my favorite try of the trip, it was so filling and had so much flavor!! For service, they are very quick and very friendly! One thing is that since Carmelo's is located at the corner of a busy intersection, it can be really hard to hear the workers and vice versa. At night, parking can be pretty full too. There's only a few spots for both Carmelo's and the market next door. It is outdoors and there is no seating available. My favourites were the al pastor and campechano. Both meats were juicy and with balanced flavours. Asada was a touch salty. Pollo a touch dry. Both veggie options were enjoyable but the hongo was better. A good kick too. The tortilla is clearly homemade; slightly thicker and rustic with a bite. We also liked the avocado and red sauce thrown on top. The pickled vegetables (onion, carrot and yellow pepper) were excellent but wish they gave you more. WOW. Coming from LA I have been incredibly disappointed in the quality of Mexican food in Seattle. Coming from LA I had very high standards but I was so blown away by Carmelo's. The tacos are perfectly greasy enough to be juicy and moist but not sloppy, the green avocado salsa is amazing, and I love that the tacos come with escabeche. For a literal window in the wall, on a sidewalk, on a corner in Capitol Hill, these tacos are BOMB. We were actually waiting to go eat at Kedai Makan, but their wait time was 3 hours. I knew I couldn't last that long without food, so we pre-gammed our meal with some tacos and horchata! Every time we drive through Capitol Hill, my boyfriend would always see a line at a random hole in the wall, so we put it on our to-do list to check it out. The line went pretty fast even though it was fairly long. We ordered at the window and opted to sit outside, without knowing there was an indoor seating area. The man who took our order was nice enough to let us know we could sit inside and he would bring out our tacos to us. We walked right inside and waited only about a minute until our tacos came out. I ordered the El Pastor and Campechano tacos. Both were SO full of flavor and juices running from the meats and sauces. The meats were tender and packed full of flavor. They were so close to the tacos we had in Mexico, and probably the best we've had since that trip. Overall, great people working there, brilliant and delicious tacos, and I forgot to mention the horchata, that was extremely creamy and packed with lots of cinnamon.
