This visit, I had custard on a cone and some funnel cake fries. For the custard, I got the small size. 2 flavors: Honey Milk & Nutella (swirl) and decided to get a topping: rainbow sprinkles. You have a choice of which cone, so I got the cake cone (it looks like they only have the long one). An employee asked if they could put the cone in a cup as I could see the custard was really soft - it was fine by me. A spoon was provided. As I devoured this custard combination, they were still fixing my funnel cake fries. I got regular and had requested it to go. When I received it (covered in a cup), I decided to try some soon afterwards (while still in the lot). I did notice a big difference from the last time I got the funnel cake fries here. This time, they came out lukewarm and a bit limp - not sure what happened (maybe they had an off day with it). No biggie as I'll just stick to other things on their menu. read more

Their marketing plan worked on me. A friend sent me a social media post saying that my name was one selected for a free small gelati or Italian ice. The two locations that participated were all 30 mins away. Well, I decided to drive as what are the chances my name would be selected. I didn't know this place existed honestly. It was located in the back of Cava Mezze and it was pretty much hidden. It is peaceful even during rush hour. That's the plus side where you can get ice cream or ice during hot weather and just chill outside. They do have some benches around. I had the Arnold Palmer and it was pretty good. Now we know this place exists, I would keep it in mind when our sweet tooth hits. read more

Carmen's never disappoints!! I'm so happy there is one in Olney, much closer than Rockville :) I got Ube custard and I was impressed at how spot on the flavor was! It wasn't too sweet and it was really creamy. My boyfriend got Nutella custard and ice tea ice, not sure why he got this combo but they tasted great separately. The Nutella custard wasnt too sweet like actual nutella, there was more of a chocolate flavor than hazelnut which I enjoyed. The iced tea was spot on too :) Overall will come again! So excited to stumble on and spot the Carmen's sign that I literally slammed on brakes to stop here after a meal elsewhere around the corner. I had no idea they had another shop. I really liked the Rockville location but remember prices were steeper but worth it. For all those comparing this to Rita's, Rita's prices were not that much cheaper and flavor was just okay, on par with an average popsicle taste. I had mango here and it did not disappoint. Best custard around! We visit Carmen's way more than we should. Their custard is the perfect consistency and sweetness. The flavored custards are well balanced and not overpowering. I'm used to frequenting the Rockville location, but I was excited to see the difference at this new location in Olney. I can imagine this place being busy based on the frequency of housing surrounding this shop. I got the cookie dough cookies and creme gelati with salted caramel custard while my sister got the chocolate chip cookie dough gelati with nutella custard. There was not a recognizable difference between the cookies and creme dough and the chocolate chip -- I had no oreo pieces in mine :( I probably wouldn't get the cookie dough again because it is so sweet, but the custard is amazing, creamy, and delicious. Saw this in replace of Rita's driving by and decided to give it a try. My girlfriend and I got the churros which were super good and crispy. We also got a passion fruit popsicles which are freshly homemade and had lots of flavor. Lastly we got the vanilla custard with the lava cake. The deluxe lava cake custard was pretty good too but I would recommend getting the cake on the side because they put within the custard and it got hard since we didn't eat it right away. The service was stupendous and loved the man helping and giving us suggestions. They have a lot of selections if you aren't feeling Italian ice or custard. This place replaced Rita's. Overall they have great custard. It is very flavorful and creamy. Both the chocolate and the peanut butter were great. You really can't get better anywhere around here. The mango and cherry Italian ice was also very good. There are cherries in the cherry though did taste a bit more fake fruit flavor than other places . Skip the edible cookie dough- it tastes like flour. My biggest complaint is they offer online ordering but only have about 1/4 of the actual menu listed. My custard had a long black hair in it that was given to me by a taller teenage girl with black hair and some highlights. The flavor was also off. This place reminds me of Rita's and other Philly area water ice stands, but Carmen's isn't quite as good. For Maryland, I would say it's quite good, and what is lacks in texture they make up for quantity of flavors. The last time I was here I ordered a cup of chocolate vanilla swirl custard, and it had a strange after taste, like aspartame or something. The Nutella custard is much better taste-wise. I have been going to Carmen's in Rockville since many years ago. I am just happy they finally added a location in Olney and a walking distance from my house. My family and I have been here 3 times already. It's my kids' favorite spot lately. The first time we came, I had the vanilla custard, kids had grapes ice, and hubby got the gelati (vanilla custard and lemonade ice). The second time, I decided to get my favorite gelati (Nutella custard and chocolate chip ice) then kids and hubby got the same from last time. The third time, I saw on their menu the "UBE" which a popular Filipino dessert flavor. I got so excited. So I got the gelati (Ube custard and chocolate ice) which I made a mistake of mixing the Ube with chocolate. I love chocolate but it didn't go well with the Ube. I was skeptical I haven't had an Ube custard just an Ube ice cream. The Ube custard was good! It's creamy, nutty, and not too sweet at all. The color is lighter though it should be a vibrant purple. I wish they have the Ube on their menu everyday. My kids had cotton candy ice, smells good and taste refreshing. The grapes and cotton candy ice are their favorites. They are generous with the proportion. The store has 6 FT social distancing stickers. Employees are friendly and helpful. I recommend Carmen's for custard/gelati and ice. Waste of time, money and resources. I would expect this terrible eatery to close within the next six months because of its poor quality desserts. It is not fresh, and not satisfying to eat.
