Plenty selections, mostly cookies though. Can't say place looks like much outside or inside but hey it's a quick stop for some sweets. I found the service here pretty funny, I guess the mother had her son run the counter and they both went back and forth like a comedy bit, about tying pastries boxes with her eyes closed. My father and I went to Carmine's Italy Bakery to pick up bread for French bread pizzas. When we walked in I went straight to the hot chocolate machine to make myself a large hot chocolate. My dad went up to wait in line. After I finished making my hot chocolate the customer that was behind us a little assume was a constant customer and the cashier knew what he wanted so he asked us if he could just make his sandwich fast. We said sure and that we don't mind waiting cause we were still looking at what they had anyways. After he was done he asked us what we wanted and thanked us for being patient. We said that we would just like a loaf of bread so that we could make our French bread pizzas. Then we saw some sprinkle cookies that I wanted to try and we asked how much they would be. He told us they go by the pound. So we got a quarter of a pound. The cookies were delicious. We saw some other type of cookie that my mom likes to try and we just wanted to know what they were called so that we could get her some in the future because we are in two separate locations as of right now. Once we payed he thanked us again and gave us a few extra cookies for our patience. We didn't want to except the cookies because we didn't mind waiting at all but he insisted. He was a very kind and generous man and we like to support the mom and pops businesses in our area. We ended up here because we had no cash to go to the bakery we really wanted to try as we drove through town. The good--A big parking lot, lots of selections of cookies, pastries, and even breakfast sandwiches. The case looked incredibly inviting with everything looking so delicious. Rainbow (tri-color) cookies are my favorite thing in the whole world. That's why we were trying to hit a NY bakery on our way back home. We walked out with 4 rainbow cookies, a linzer tart, a lemon drop, and a black and white cookie. The total was $8.60. I thought that was pretty reasonable given how the amount we ordered. The room for improvement--The rainbow cookie was the best of all the cookies. The raspberry jelly kind of took over the taste of the cookie. The black and white cookie is very dry. The linzer tart was average, nothing special. The lemon drop was the worst of the selection we brought home. I don't think we will be back. read more

My wife ordered a cake on Wednesday for my son's birthday party on Saturday. She brought a printed picture from Staples that they said was perfect to use for the image. Saturday morning she went to pick up the cake and it was not ready. They said they would have it ready in an hour and a half (clearly they forgot). Then when we looked at the cake we noticed what the pictures show. Not a professional job at all. When she called to address the issue with the owner we were offered a plate of cookies and told they don't have the time to do anymore. I really wanted to like this place. Happy to find it. Cookies were good. Got a Napoleon I had been craving for weeks. Got home and it look smashed and as if it have been sitting there for days, if not more. I wouldn't have even posted and suffered in silence but the customer service was anything but friendly and kind. Acted as if I was inconveniencing her and that a second pause is too long to decide on my next cookie choice. I usually say, well maybe the poor soul is having a bad day so I extended niceties and went on my way. Coming back to reviews, it seems many have felt the same way. Oh I wonder what can be going on in someone's life that they so regularly are unable to extend kindness. I hope things change. It would be nice to see an independent business thrive. Disappointed in the tiramisu we ordered this week. Being an Italian bakery, we expected a tradition tiramisu ( coffee/espresso soaked lady fingers layered with a sweet fluffy mascarpone mixture, topped with cocoa). What we got was a layered yellow cake with lady fingers around the outside. No hint of coffee/espresso. I decided to stop here and order some fresh cannolis for my father. His mother (my grandmother) died that morning and I stopped to buy fresh cannolis for him. The owner was sitting down behind the counter when I walked in. She didn't greet me but, very rudely asked me, "WHAT DO YOU NEED?" then proceeded to give me the dirtiest look when I asked for 6 cannolis. She stood up and rolled her eyes like a moody teenager. I was shocked by the attitude I was receiving. Maybe she was having a bad day, but that's no reason to make any customer feel as if their inconveniencing her. I think she was annoyed that she had to fill the cannolis. I know, it so strenuous to put filling into a cannoli and she certainly made it known.‍ I've been to Carmine's with my kids a couple of times and experienced a bit of an attitude from her but just let it go. This time I really took it to heart. Word at advice to the owner...Please be kind to people because you never know what they are going through. Needless to say, they lost a customer. It's too bad because Carmine's is down the block from my house, but I rather drive across town to the other bakery than put up someone who made me feel like garbage. read more

I Ordered a breakfast sandwich and it took 30 minutes...Owner was on the phone cursing and when I received my sandwich it was absolutely disgusting and I found 2 pieces of brunette hair on my eggs. Interesting little bakery on East Main St in Middletown. This is my second visit to Middletown in the last 2-3 months. A pal of mine is a medical student nearby and he recommended this bakery. We almost forgot to stop by here until we noticed it on the road on our way home. We made a quick U-ie, pulled into their parking lot and had to give Carmine's a honest try. Upon entering the bakery, the first thing I noticed was a family vibe. It feels like a old time bakery and family owned for many years. As far as selection and variety goes, they have a fair amount of cookies and some pastries but not much of cakes or slices of cakes for that matter. So we gave their cookies a shot and ordered a pound of them. We ate them on the road and a majority of the cookies were pretty good. The cookies were nice and soft and had a nice crumble in each bite. The cookies were NOT hard as rock or stale. The cannoli cookie was pretty tasty. Good cream filling and wasn't tooth aching sweet which took me by surprise. I enjoyed it very much to my liking. The hazelnut cookie was interesting. I love hazelnut. The visual appearance of the cookie itself does not look very appealing. I couldn't figure out what it was until the nice lady behind the counter told us it was a hazelnut cookie. The hazelnut chocolate was good, the nuts were also good but my friend and I felt there was just too many nuts in each cookie. Perhaps it would of tasted better if the nut were sliced or smashed instead of full nuts. The chocolate chip cookie here is really good. It's a small little cookie with small little chocolate chips. The chips are not entirely melted soft but since the cookie itself is so brittle, the chips gives it a nice crunchy bite to it. Verdict - From what I have tasted, the cookies is an easy 4-5 stars. None of the cookies were insanely sweet like many other bakeries. These are the type of cookies I can wolf down all day and night without worrying about a toothache. Stopped in for bagels, I would say if you're not a regular already - don't bother going. Plenty of other bakeries in the area. According to the stickers on the window they take card, I checked before I stopped - then I was given the cold shoulder because I didn't have cash. The women ringing me up had to have said "Oh what a day!" about three times in the few minutes I was there. While I received the cold shoulder, they went out of their way to say hello to people you could tell were regulars since they were called by name. I asked for napkins with the bagels I ordered, and I was given about a third of a ripped paper towel, and the impression that I was inconveniencing them by stopping in for breakfast. So after reordering my wedding cake AGAIN I called several times to confirm and get a price on my order and no call back! My wedding is in 6 days.So I went to Torino bakery where the staff was absolutely amazing and able to make me a beautiful cake on such short notice.
