Was searching for a restaurant for a special occasion and came across this hidden spot. It felt like a speakeasy type of vibe. Very small space but cozy and welcoming on the last floor of a hotel. The Churrasco is amazing and the portion is as well. Looks like they prepare everything at the moment so it takes a little while to eat, however they gave us some salad to hold over while the food came out. I was a bit disappointed that many things that were on the menu where not available and it looks like they try to limit the amount of food per day in case their is no business traffic. Still a nice spot for a nice conversation away from crowd and the bustling on the San Juan streets. read more

My goodness! What an amazing experience. My best friend and I visited Carnes our last night in Puerto Rico for a farewell dinner. This was hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in my life. Yes, a bold statement, I know. But I say what I mean, and I mean what I said! I started my meal off with vegetables that were slightly seasoned and grilled to perfection. My main course was a creamy risotto topped with grilled chicken. Everything tasted so fresh and each bite was perfectly balanced- rich, savory and perfectly curated. Carnes Steakhouse does exactly what needs to be done! Went in a quest to find a good steakhouse in Puerto Rico. Did not disappoint! Started with the Chorizo Argentino( full of flavor, amplified with the chimichurri sauce) and the Argentinian empanadas(cheese and chorizo); both were great choices to start with. Afterwards, we had the filet mignon with bacon rice( cooked: medium) and Wagyu burger. The steak was cooked to specifications and was really tasty. The rice, however, was a tad undercooked. The Wagyu burger was great but was nothing special. The server, Diego, did make the experience unique. Very attentive and knowledgeable when asked questions regarding the menu items. The place itself is small, but that's not necessarily a bad thing since it made the experience more personalized and intimate. 100% would recommend if going out for a nice date or a corporate outing. read more

A lovely little gem found completely through serendipity, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed this steakhouse. Our steaks (ribeye and NY strip) were delicious and perfectly prepared. The kids' churrasco was delicious and a generous portion. Ambiance was modern and upscale; a view overlooking the canal and Cataño was lovely as night fell. The chocolate cake dessert was delicious -- chocolaty but light, not an easy feat. Staff and service were lovely. Definitely a highlight of our trip to San Juan. read more

Absolutely delicious. They had to win that fifth star back due to some things that I will discuss. However, my steak and the pasta of the day paired with the barbecue chicken and fruit dish earned that star back plus some. I was concerned because the restaurant was paired in competition with 1919 and STK. However, when my Uber pulled up it was in a sketchy neighborhood on a small street and I had zero hope for a good experience. Now the prices is alongside a luxury steakhouse, but the ambience is not equivalent. When you first open the door of the very small boutique hotel that has five floors you are pleasantly surprised as the decor is very modern and there is a front desk security there to greet you at her desk. A part of the welcome process that I would change is the training of the front door security guard. She's witnessed my husband and I struggle to take a selfie in front of the most beautiful mural art and she never asked to help or take the photo. That is hospitality one on one. We made our way up to the fourth floor where the restaurant is located. I could read behind the badly doctored sign that the space used to be the breakfast area of the hotel. The restaurant is tiny, smaller than my living room. We chose to sit outside with a beautiful view of the mountains and the cruise ships dock at the pier. The decor had effort such as a green wall in plants however, there were smoke containers and equipment for the restaurant on the balcony. For a restaurant that sells $160 steaks, The decor has a lot to be desired. Our table outside did not have a tablecloth. it should have been white table clothe. There is a lot to be desired to ensure this restaurant stays in competition with top notch restaurant. This is what caused the restaurant to lose a star. Along side, the ambience was the waiter name Stephen, who was phenomenal, informing us that the chef was changing his menu and we would not be able to order a lot of the things on the menu. Again for a normal restaurant that will be fine. However, for a luxury restaurant that charges hundred dollars for some menu items. This is unacceptable. Now let's get into this food. They didn't have the empanadas that my husband and I order which was the filet mignon empanadas. We couldn't get the onion and cheese was because my husband do not eat onions. We settle for this dish to have barbecue chicken inside of a fried fruit called Pana. It came on a slab of stone with Sriracha mayo as the base. It was absolutely phenomenal. The next thing we order was the Argentina cheese and bread. It was not good at all. The cheese had cooled some, so it was hard to pull apart. Jamire order the salmon, the creamy potatoes, and the grilled vegetables with only carrots, no asparagus. The vegetables came out with asparagus. But that is OK. The potatoes was his favorite dish. The salmon came with salt and pepper as flavor only. He has had better salmon's. My steak was absolutely phenomenal. The best Steak I've ever had in my entire life. It was juicy greasy fatty and delicious. It was worth the $65 price range compared to other steakhouses such as Ruth Chris, Mastro's and Barton G. Steven was our waiter and he was delightful. He was knowledgeable and attentive. He also gave us recommendations for old San Juan. He was a joy. I saw the Chef walk back-and-forth a few times he did not say anything. Yes, I will come back to the Restaurant for the steak and that barbecue chicken dish. However, I worry they won't be around long because the whole restaurant stay empty from 5 to 7 PM. The last thing I will review is the bar. They have three cocktails, including an old-fashioned a Moscow Mule sangria. when selling the old-fashioned he suggested premium mom and Jamire decided on that. I found out they have fresh delicious juice, mango and passion fruit. I requested to have the premium round with fresh squeeze mango juice. It was delicious I had to. This is one incredible restaurant. This is a hidden gem - only open for 3 months, but already it has gained and incredible reputation for good food and great service. First of all, they bend over backwards to serve you. This place is hands-down one of the best restaurants I've ever experienced. Call ahead, if you can, for reservations. They weren't packed, but the certainly were before we finished our meal. If this place were in Los Angeles or New York, you 'd have to wait months to get a reservation. Started everything off with a Charcuteria Valdes. Perfectly sliced 5J ham, with gorgonzola cheese, orange marmalade and some thinly sliced almonds. Tastebud treat! I had the dry-aged ribeye, and my best half had the salmon. The meals are prepared on a Kamado smoker. I have one of these myself, and there isn't anything that doesn't taste great prepared on it. I've had it for 25 years, and I swear I could take an old tire and throw it on the Kamado and it would still taste great. However...they didn't serve anything that could even be remotely called "old tire" at Cannes. My steak was perfection. Ordered medium rare, it was done perfectly. Juicy, tender and without a doubt, probably one of the very best ribeyes I've ever had, bar none. It's right up there with the Cattlemen's Steakhouse in Fort Worth or Mortons in Washington DC. The prosecco was perfect as well - it was just a lovely sweetness after dinner that did the trick. The staff was attentive and quick and it took no time to get served. A special thanks to the staff for the nice touch of liqueur - on the house. It was an excellent cap to a very delicious meal. I couldn't help myself - I had to tip the wait staff 30% just because the service and food were beyond compare! read more

We decided to go for New Year's Eve because they didn't have a prix fixe menu. At least it wasn't promoted anywhere, and I looked at their socials. But when we arrived, we were told that we had a choice of the "New Year's" prix fixe menu with a set price or their regular menu, which we preferred and decided to sit down. Soon after, we were told that the chef couldn't do the "à la carte" menu and only the prix fixe menu was available, to which we agreed since it would've been difficult to get another reservation at that time on New Year's Eve and with the majority of the island without electricity. The menu included a kids option at $25, but when asked, the waiter didn't know what it was and had to ask the chef. Only two options were available, at more than $10 more than the options for kids in the regular menu. So we made our selection and tried to make the best of the evening. The menu included a bottle of sparkling wine, which we had to ask for since we weren't offered any drinks after our first courses we brought. Sadly, it was at room temperature and not enjoyable. The first course was only one dish, which we thought had to be shared. Shortly after, the same dish was brought, but this time it was two dishes, which we told the waiter that we had already received one, so she took away one dish and left the other. Only one course for the child menu, by the way. So they brought our kid's dish, which she didn't like, and when asked for the other option given for the kids menu, we were told that it wasn't available because the fryer hadn't even been turned on. At that point, it was obvious that everything in the evening was being improvised and hadn't been organized whatsoever. When we asked for the check, the full price for the kids menu was being charged, expecting it included other dishes because it was more than double the price on the regular menu.
