We've been here a couple times already. We tried their burritos with lengua the first time. They were good. Plenty of meat, and we subsisted the lettuce and tomatoes with rice. It makes a huge difference but overall a very delicious and affordable burrito. The second time, we ordered their menudo. It was also very delicious and very inexpensive compared to their competitors nearby. Will definitely be returning here. read more

I went to try their Torta's, I ordered a milanesa de res torta. It was the worst torta I ever had. The meat was tough and did not taste fresh. Must have been premade. The bun was toasted to a slightly burnt crisp, also not fresh. I do not recommend this place. read more

This review is for the restaurant inside the grocery store, where they serve tacos, burritos, tortas, and gorditas. It was feature in one of the older episodes of "Chicago's Best." I remembered that the carnitas torta Ted Brunson was feeding in his mouth looked irresistible! I finally paid a visit to this place tonight. Hubby and I both had the carne asada tortas. I friendly reminded hubby that the vegetarian options were available, but he seemed to tune out my words and wanted to be a carnivore for the time being. Those tortas were quite large for $4.85 each. They were loaded with meat, avocados, and lettuce. Everything is made-to-order, so waiting is to be expected. Those tortas were definitely worth the money! The meat had great flavors, and they didn't skimp on meat, avocados and other ingredients. I didn't think they take credit cards at the restaurant, but all you need is five (5) bucks to fill up your stomach. By the way, it would certainly help if you can speak some Spanish. I speak pretty decent "food Spanish" since I'm a foodie, but hubby did the entire ordering in Spanish. The orders were called-out in Spanish as well, so be sure to pay attention. One of many joys of living in Chicago is the adventure of the food scenes. Honestly, many of them happen in the nondescript neighborhood like Belmont Central/Cragin. I've been to the location on Ashland Ave. numerous times for tacos. So when I was nearby this location, I figured I'd stop in for a couple tacos. Not a good idea. A few hours after I ate a couple tacos from this place, I got food poisoning. Took me almost 2 days to get over it. Not good at all. Maybe I got unlucky and got part of a bad batch, but after my experience, I don't think I'll give them a second chance. I'll stick to the tacos at the Ashland Avenue location. read more

Just moved from Logan Square, where I had access to Jimenez. I'm thinking that all is well, since I have a Guanajuato nearby. Went there for the first time last Saturday, and... They're out of two things I'm looking for -- Romaine lettuce and guacamole. And at 11:30 on Saturday morning! Broccoli (also something I wanted) was an overcast green color. I I just seen a guy bites his fingernail off and spit it behind the counter where he was cooking my food. Then I finish shopping and have a cart full of groceries and they tell me that I cant have bags. I would have to buy some. I never had to pay for bags in the past. I really only come here for there little taqueria they have.. The place is always packed!! So expect to have patience and more patience. The parking lot to this place is always a big headache at times because the store seems to always be busy, which is a plus since they are a grocery store as well. I've come here on several occasions and the food is always up to par, the steak is never too salty or overly burned. But be weary that sometimes they do run out of meat such like chicken, but when they have it it is rather good. The price you pay is pretty reasonable, it's a pretty big taco loaded with meat and whatever else you desire on it. The language barrier can be a bit frustrating even for those who speak fluent Spanish! lol so be patient my friends. I've never actually sat and ate there because it's so busy I am quick to just want to get my food and GO!.. there does always seem to be a lady who cleans the tables and counters as quickly as she can so the place isn't a dump.But it's not 5 star either!! lol If you're in the area and what some decent traditional tacos this place is it ! read more

This review is concerning both the Taqueria and presentation of the store. As I am walking towards the entrance I notice there is what seems to be sewer/dirty water leading up to the entrance that absolutely stinks. I walk inside and there is a weird smell in the store (different than the dirty water smell). I look past the smell and head towards the taqueria. I order I get home and I notice the taco meat (both asada and carnitas) are warm/room temperature and I live close by. I loved their tacos and I think I will go to the Fullerton location. I really like the ambiance of the store. They have nice paintings on the walls. The staff here is very friendly and this is def my favorite place to go shopping for Mexican food. They also have very fresh meat that is cut to ordered and at prices that are very affordable. the lighting in the place is very bright and you can definitely tell that they like to keep the place clean. That is always a big plus. I also like the fact that they have a taco shop inside the grocery store. They offer a wide variety of produce at cheap prices too! Worse place ever. Just want there today. My order was 2 tacos de carne asada and 1 torta de carne asada. It took them 40 minutes to get that done. And it wasn't even worth it.
