Since moving to El Monte, I've been trying to check out more of the local Mexican spots, and this place kept popping up on Yelp. I'm a big fan of carnitas when they're done right, so I decided to give it a shot. The place feels pretty authentic. They have those giant silver pots in the back slowly cooking the carnitas, which is always a good sign. I ordered two mixta tacos, which come with a mix of different pork cuts including meat, skin, and all the good stuff. These tacos were huge. Honestly, the two tacos could easily be turned into four normal-sized tacos if you wanted. They also have a condiment bar where you can load up on all the fixings. I also grabbed a bag of chicharrones and those were excellent. Crispy, fresh, and dangerously easy to keep snacking on. After this visit, I definitely want to come back and try more of the menu, especially the chicharrones plate which looked amazing when I saw it come out for another table. I had to try this place because I went by carnitas el momo in Monterey park but it was closed on a Tuesday. I stoped here and wow The carnita plate I can't wait to go back the beans and rice were some of the best I had they hit every spot. I ended leaving there with a pound of Mixta carnitas the service was excellent. And the ambiance was normal This is a must go so try it you won't be disappointed read more

Weekday lunch, walked in and it was super smoky inside, but they have seating outside. First time so I ordered 3 tacos with various types of carnitas. Had to do a quick google look up as I wasn't sure what part I was getting. Ordered buche trompa and Maciza. Honestly I wasn't sure which was which but they were all tasty. Will clarify next time. Delicious carnitas and lovely ambiance! I went to the grand opening and they had live music outside in the patio area. I tried the carnitas taco, and it was well worth it! The taco itself is large on a hand made tortilla and there is a self serve bar with salsas and additions to pair with your taco. Can't wait to come again! Best carnitas in the area! read more

I went there this morning and introduced myself to Maria, she was very friendly and knowledgeable, we tasted the 4 different Chicharron pieces. I was amazed how delicious the tacos were, a mixture of carnitas, buche and Chicharron, you have to try this, for a mere $5.00 and enough meat in the taco to make 2 additional tacos. Carnitas are bomb! Good size servings! One taco is the equivalent of maybe 2/3! I love to get the surtido tacos! They only sell Mexican soda and a few aguas! There is room for improvement on there condiments bar. read more

Was heading to a coffee shop when I walked by the smells and sounds of Carnitas Y Chicharrones El Gallo, so I had to stop by. The staff was extremely friendly and it was a good time to use the very little Spanish I remembered from 3 years of study in high school, and they were on a typical taco stand line basis. I thought two tacos would be a nice snack with their "everything" meat in it but these tacos were HUGE! Of course the price resembled this as they were $4 a pop, but it was a crazy experience! The meat itself was delicious and the portion sizes were great. However, I was looking for some more acidity to cut the fat of all the meat involved, so it seemed overwhelming at times. Get ready to go on this roller coaster of shock with me. I had the strangest and oddly gross interaction at a restaurant. I came here for the first time to try this place after searching for carnitas in my area. The lady greeted me in Spanish so I responded in Spanish. Then I proceeded to order in Spanish and she responded in English and it continued with this switch up back and forth and it was so odd and confusing for me. Then I ordered my food and when I came back to pick it up she had already handed it to a random gentleman standing there. She then told the guy, oh no that's not yours, that's hers. The guy laughed awkwardly and handed it to me. Then she said ohhhh, I forgot to give you this, and handed me a small paper bag that I put in my plastic bag. I was taking the food to go and headed to the parking lot. I had to load up my baby into his carseat but I was starving. SO I stuck my hand into that same small paper bag (without looking inside) and grabbed whatever I could rip off so I could eat something quickly. It was a piece of meat and I ate a large chunk, mind you I had moved my hand around that bag repeatedly before ripping off that piece. After a while I was about to get inside the car to leave. The same lady came outside to tell me the little paper bag she had given me actually belonged to the other gentleman. I awkwardly told her, I already stuck my hand in there and pulled out a piece after pretty much touching everything. She began to say "do you mind if you..." she was going to ask me to pay for it and quickly I stopped her and said, you, handed me that and said it was mine. It's not my fault, she awkwardly laughed rudely and said " i know i gave it to you" (followed by an aggressive sigh and snatched the bag from me, then ran back inside with the bag without saying anything else). She came back out with the piece I had broke apart in her bare hands and handed it to me in the parking lot. My husband and I stared at each other in silent disbelief. She then proceeded to give the rest of it to the other gentleman. Yes, the food I had already put my hand all over, she gave it to another family. I am still in disbelief. I don't know if this was her own idea or she was taught this. Instead of of accepting her mistake and even apologising . She did something very unhealthy and unprofessional. Went to have lunch today and I found a remodeled new restaurant that was very clean when I walked in. Then came the carnitas tacos. After I had the first bite I said to myself this is delicious. The best carnitas I have had in a long time. The food came quick and I had a great meal. I would recommend this restaurant as the top 5 in the area. read more
