I'm 38 years old, and I don't think I've ever felt this much like an absolute fool. Let me tell you…read moreabout my delightful experience with some legal thieves. Yesterday morning, we noticed a swelling on my parakeet's vent. Finding a vet for birds is basically like hunting for a unicorn, so we finally found one and rushed over at 5 PM. They said it was egg binding--oh, joy. The vet took my poor bird and told me it had a 50/50 chance of surviving. But of course, they removed the egg, gave some antibiotics and painkillers, and still said it was "50/50." Great. So, I go to check out and surprise--what was a $90 visit turned into a whopping $370. Naturally, I just handed over the money because, well, why not? On my way home, I called them up, expressing my deep concern that I was being royally robbed. I mean, how is the cost of bird medication even close to that? I asked, "What if I couldn't pay this? Would you have just, you know, negotiated?" And they go, "Oh, we'd totally negotiate!" How charming. So, the moral of the story is: Every service has its price, but if you're willing to haggle, you're clearly a lowlife. Do you just look at someone's face and decide how much their pet's life is worth? What a wonderful world we live in. By the way, it's 8:40 PM right now, and the bird has died.

One of finest clinics I have ever been to. It is immaculately clean, and the staff - from the…read morereceptionists to the doctors - is amazingly compassionate, loving, and professional. When we had to euthanize our 16-year-old, they were incredibly empathetic, caring, and respectful - right down to walking the cremains around the desk instead of just passing them over the barrier. As my husband likes to say, "You get what you pay for." I'm happy to pay for the best.
