We experienced the unthinkable, a major house fire, in 2021. Our insurance (ASI Progressive) uses Carolina Restoration for contents/property remediation and reconstruction. We had to pack out 100% of our remaining belongings. We used Carolina Restoration for our contents/property remediation for everything except electronics and clothing/textiles. Their entire team was very diligent, communicative and took great care with our belongings. The project team was empathetic, responsive, honest and our contents were returned in good condition given the circumstances. They provided electronic inventory and worked with us to manage the expense of remediation vs. replacement so we could make informed trade off decisions. If you experience a tragedy like we did, understand your insurance coverage and know that remediation services are charged to your property insurance coverage, which is separate from dwelling. Do everything you can to gather your wits and get involved in what should be remediated vs. thrown away. It's an incredibly emotional experience, especially when you have to decide within hours, maybe days on what makes sense to keep or not depending on the smoke damage your suffered. read more

I had Carolina Restoration Services recently do some work on my home at the recommendation of my home insurance adjuster. While the work they did was satisfactory in the end, there were too many unnecessary errors and frustrations to be able to recommend them. Chris Flantos was the project manager, and he did a "good enough" job (there were several instances where communication was lacking, but nothing major). The real issue I have with Carolina Restoration is the quality of the work done. Their workers ripped up the sub-floor in my living room and replaced it when it should not have been touched (only the sub-floor in the kitchen needed replacing). Yes, I got a new sub-floor in my living room for free (which I didn't need or want), but the mistake meant I had to stay away from the house an extra day or two (they had us completely vacate the home during these repairs), which cost money and disrupted my work schedule. Should not have happened. When their workers installed new French doors, they failed to caulk (at all) around the exterior trim, which caused the door to leak the next time it rained (such an amateur mistake-- and totally foreseeable). After calling Mr. Flantos and explaining what happened, he had the workers return and caulk. Another couple weeks or so pass and the door starts leaking again. Chris comes out again, this time with a representative from the door manufacturer who told me that the guys who installed the door had not done it correctly (again, an issue of it not being caulked in the right places). The door rep. fixed the door and we have not had any problems since. Two leaks that were preventable and only happened due to incompetence and lack of knowledge on the part of the workers. Unacceptable. Next, we had new hardwood floors installed downstairs. The flooring guys had loose-layed about 25 rows of flooring in the living room when I appeared from upstairs (they thought nobody was home) and found that they were about to install it in the wrong direction. I explained that they were doing it wrong and it needed to be installed in the other direction. If I had not caught them before they started nailing it down, I would have had my entire downstairs hardwood floors installed in the wrong direction! And this was after I had previously emailed Chris and asked him to please ensure that the flooring guys knew which direction to lay the floors. Bullet dodged, but it should not have happened in the first place. There were a few other minor issues where Chris was unaware of key details of the job or got those details wrong. Overall, a nice guy but not someone I would hire to oversee work being done on my home. read more

I had a toilet water supply line fail in the early morning hours of a Saturday and flood that upstairs bathroom and rain water on the bedroom that was below it. They did send out a Project Manager that Saturday afternoon to assess. And I appreciate that he did thorough measurements. However, no one came to put blowers on the areas or mitigate the water situation. It was Monday afternoon before I started to hear from people with this company and that was just to set up the day they would come by for this. I dont expect repairs to be done right away... but I do expect a much quicker response to a floors and ceilings soaked with water. I expect that mitigation to happen within 24 hours or sooner so the damage doesnt spread. read more

We had damage to our hardwood floors recently that occurred over several days when we were out of town. CRS came out quickly to dry the floor and we also used them to do the repairs. They were very communicative to us and we were kept in the loop the whole time. I see some negative reviews here on yelp - that was not our experience. Certainly the whole process is stressful when one's home sustains significant damage and we certainly felt that, but the CRS group was very professional. It did take several weeks to complete the repairs but I think that was at least partly due to supply chain issues and the task of scheduling sub-contractors, all who seemed very busy. read more

Total inflexibility when providing repair services. I requested a mid-morning start time for water damage repair. I was told all of their repair contractors work on a 7:30/8:30am- 4:30pm schedule, as this suits THEIR family schedules, and that they could not offer work from any other contractors. This does NOT suit my schedule. I was basically told to accept this type of schedule, or I'd need to find another repair service Their TV ads claim that they are "compassionate people". I found their service to be anything but compassionate. read more

I would not recommend using CRS. We had water damage in one of our rental units from the tenants upstairs. We also had water damage in the ceiling at our home. We had two different estimators come out to the different locations. The estimator for our condo gave us an estimate and we went ahead with the work. After they tore a hole in our ceiling and I called to find out when it would get patched, I was told they needed to send someone else out to give me another estimate to patch the hole. I assumed the original estimate was for the entire job (not half the job). I even questioned the person multiple times about the work. When I called the estimator he said CRS never gives an estimate for the entire job. Well, they did give me an estimate for the entire job for my house. When I questioned them about this, he said this isn't normal. When I asked to speak to his supervisor, he referred me to the person that gave me the estimate for my house. I feel like I got the runaround and never got a straight answer. I ended up getting someone else to patch the hole in my ceiling and he told met he could have done the entire job for less than what CRS charged for half the job. CRS did credit me $50 in the end (which is why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1). I feel that the communication was very poor at best and worst case was dishonest. read more

I had water damage in the kitchen due to a leaky dishwasher. Decided to go ahead and take the opportunity to remodel the kitchen and two bathrooms. Since Carolina Restoration was handling the insurance work, I hired them for the remodel. Daniel and his team did a fantastic job. They tore out the old, cracked tile in the kitchen, hall and bathrooms and installed vinyl plank. They put in new cabinets, an over-the-range microwave, a new bathtub upstairs, new vanities and mirrors in both bathrooms and hooked up my new dishwasher. They installed a beautiful granite countertop and gave all the rooms a fresh coat of paint. Everyone involved in the work went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. I've had a lot of work done on my house over the past decade and it seems I always have to complain to get things done right. Not so with Carolina Restoration. They always asked if I was happy with the work, each step along the way. If I wanted something changed, they took care of it, no questions asked. We had water damage to our home and we saw the excellent reviews Carolina Restoration had received so we went with them. Everything started off great. They came out and dried up the water damage and also treated for mold. They were very efficient. This was the first week of July. Flash forward to September and they still did not fix our home. We had to contact them over and over again. The promise was always the same, "Someone will call you." No one ever did. It was not that big of a job. Replace some drywall, prime and paint, replace a small section of insulation and lay down new vinyl. We cancelled the job with Carolina Restoration and found another person to do it. He started the very next day. Very bad experience. 09/09/2015 I received a call from the owner, Travis Bailey, wanting to know what happened on this repair. I explained to him what happened and he vehemently apologized to my wife and I. I could here in his voice how sincere his apology was. He said that his company definitely dropped the ball and that he was very sorry for what happened. It showed a lot of class for an owner to call and admit the mistake was on his company. If I ever need services like this again I will have to give them another shot. read more

Pretty terrible people to work with. We had water damage in our house and our insurance suggested CRS....big mistake. For the most part the actual workers they have sent out have been okay, however the "leadership" at CRS seems incredibly incompetent. I've worked with multiple contractors since moving to the RDU area about 6 years ago and without a doubt CRS management is the most unprofessional group of jokers I've ever seen. At least the ones I've worked with are, I can't really speak for the entire company. The biggest issue is the so called "project managers" are absolutely horrible at actually managing the project. You may see other reviews here that echo the same sentiment and they are also correct. Every single time I have ever asked CRS for ANY information about what's going on with the project, they do not have the answer. They make excuses for their own mistakes and try to blame the insurance, the sub-contractor, or even the homeowner! They do not take ownership of any part of the process and just point the finger at someone else. They also seem to have a culture problem, the level of blatant sexism and arrogance I have seen displayed by their employees is truly breathtaking. We made the mistake of having my wife call them a few times and they just couldn't handle a woman talking to them about "man" things. I do not advise anyone to even bother with this company. We have used CRS twice after calling in FEMA. The house involved had a crawl space that was 6 feet tall in places . We were not in a Flood Zone but were the victims of an inadequate city sewer and Mother Nature . The job involved was grunge work ---removing ten years of accumulations filled/ exposed to fetid creek water and chemicals. Our crawl space was akin to a flooded garage with a lot of duct work. Of course , many others in Flood Zones had also flooded so CRS was busy .The delay made the water sitting inside Garden boots etc worse . Not a job most people would envy. Dangerous and dirty . I believe the Supervisor's last name was Lemon . CRS did an excellent job the first time . The second time around we had a lot less inventory to remove but still needed the area to be cleaned up and dried out . It was such a RELIEF to call people who remembered our names and who we knew would do a good job . Both times they worked hard . In reading the negative reviews above I can only say I feel empathy for the person with poorly installed French doors and an almost wrong direction floor. Its stressful to need remediation . Emotions get magnified . As I recall there was an issue where we needed to call and ask for a prolonged drying out of the crawl space and they were glad to accommodate us but that involved fans they had already committed to be at new site , so there were issues but they got solved . When you have an emergency it helps to have someone you trust . I cannot speak to the person who says CRS tried to get more money out of their insurance company . They helped us with FEMA and we were grateful. read more

During a recent rain storm we noticed a leaking ceiling fan which was very odd to say the least! At the recommendation of our home insurance company, we contacted CRS the next morning. The customer service during the phone call was excellent and a technician was at our home within hours. Our technician (Matt) was right on time and was even kind enough to ask us if we had any social distancing preferences due to COVID-19. Matt was very thorough in both identifying the issue and providing plausible solutions. I highly recommend CRS! read more

I would not recommend this company! Never really finish the job! I have complained about the replace hardwoods that were put in they were not put in right there are lumps and bumps everywhere!! I have been told over and over that they would send they floor guy back to look at it but a year and a half later no floor guy! I have never signed off on this job and have never received any paper!! This company promised to resolve water damage and mold issues to my mother's home. She has been battling breast cancer for over 5 years. During this process, not only did they only replace cosmetics, they did not resolve the problems at the source of the moisture issues which caused the mold in the first place. They damaged personal property along the way. Ordered the wrong materials. It is also noteworthy to mention that their timelines were infinitely longer and way off from what was promised every step of the way and made ridiculous excuses for it. The whole situation was stressful, untenable and literally made my mother physically sick. During this process they had promised to box up all of her belongings and place them neatly in a storage container. They only did this after we criticised them for starting to sand and got sheetrock dust in her clothes, furnishings and appliances. This happened after we were told that before this process would start plastic would be draped and "only the affected rooms would be in the sealed off area." They followed this up by threatening and intimidating her and she is 73 years old. She now has the same problems, no money and is out of options. This is how they handled this case so be very careful who you hire. They were disorganized and misleading with the scope of work, they used cheap materials and did a lousy job organizing their crews. The owner throughout our complaints was mostly dismissive, cold, calculating and made sure to mention his team of highly paid attorneys. He also was defensive about and disconnected from his project managers and what happens with regard to the issues at my mother's home.(most likely for plausible deniability from a legal standpoint). This man was ruthless and in it to win it. My my mother is now being forced to sell her home and with whatever life left start with very little at 73 years old. After refusing to sign the insurance check they somehow managed to get the insurance company to issue one directly to them. How does that even work read more

My review of CRS starts when Hurricane Matthew howled thru NC in October 2016. The massive storm turned into a major weather event which dropped a large 44" x 125' oak tree into our home. Due to the massive amounts of damages throughout the area, CRS set clear service expectations when I first called. They estimated that their initial arrival onsite would be delayed 7-10 days but they would do their best to arrive sooner. In the meantime, we began limited mitigation by removing wet debris, securing personal items from damaged rooms, removing the tree and tarping the damaged roof. In late October, Keith from CRS performed an initial assessment and scheduled CRS water mitigation services. Shortly thereafter, Mike and Issaac from his team began general debris and insulation removal, cleanup and started the extensive drying with commercial dehumidifers and blowers. They did an excellent job of finding several obscure wet areas where water had seeped down a wall and into headers. They exposed those areas to insure drying process would complete quickly. During the next few months, we worked with closely with Tim at CRS to plan the extensive repairs. Around mid-April Hans, Bob and the main CRS crews arrived to begin prepping and deconstruction. Bob and his team carefully covered fragile undamaged items such as toilets and sinks with plywood sheeting and the floors with plastic and RAM board. They protected natural stone areas with even heavier plywood. They also erected zip-walls to contain the dust and maintain temperatures in the liveable section of the house. Hans scheduled structural engineers and lined up various tradesmen for deconstruction and repairs. Hans, Bob and their teams arrived promptly each mornings. When they departed for the day, they made sure the job site was clear and clean of hazards, debris and dust so it would not get tracked into the living areas. These extensive repairs involved removing interior drywall, insulation, wiring, roof sections and then replacing engineered trusses, decking and then re-roofing the house. Drywall was rehung, mudded, sanded and painted in about 40% of the house. Construction repairs ran from April 2017 thru June 2017. Overall, we are extremely pleased with the skilled tradesmen employed by CRS along with the quality of their work. Almost everything went according to plan and when it did not, Hans and the CRS team quickly corrected course. Hans, Tim, Bob and the entire CRS team turned what could have been a really large repair nightmare into a well planned, well executed, well managed major repair project. Bravo! When a professionally executed project is paramount, along with the peace-of-mind that brings, CRS and their team team delivered for us. I had shower damage to my second story bathroom floor and ceiling in the room below. They were great in mitigating the damage but horrible in the repairs. When you choose them for repairs, they assign you a project manager and the project manager works with subcontractors for the repairs. The quality of the repairs is a total crap shoot depending on the subcontractors used. The quality of work was sub-par and my ceiling drywall work was redone 3 times before it was acceptable to me. Timeliness of repairs is not their thing. It took 4 months for the repair of a 8' by 10' bathroom (tile and shower enclosure). I would not recommend them. read more

Carolina restorations did the remediation on our house that had burned. Because they were so nice and seemed to know what they were talking about. I agreeded to have them do the restoration of the house. They said it would be 6 weeks before they would start work due to adding us to their schedule and working things out with the insurance company. I figured that was fair. Well 9 weeks later I still didn't have any work done. I called and they said they were still trying to work things out with the insurance company. I called my insurance company and they said Carolina Restoration was try to get more money for items they had already itemized on the work order. My agent suggested finding another contractor because they were not giving them anymore money. I am giving them a low rating because they were holding out for more money and making my stressful situation even worse. Now 2 months wasted I had to start over a find another contractor. There will be a review on the new contractor also. Turns out Carolina Restoration was new to restorations and really didn't know what they were doing. My suggestion is to weary of using Carolina Restorations for restorations. read more

In July 2015 a leak from a pipe in the attic prompted a call to Carolina Restoration Services. They were very responsive and had someone out within hours to determine what needed to be done. The moisture mitigation team started bright and early the next morning. The mitigation team was prompt, courteous, professional and obviously experienced at drying out ceilings, flooring, stairs and walls. The mitigation process was smooth and quick. Based on the my experience with the mitigation team I decided to use Carolina Restoration for the repair work also. I was less pleased with the repair team. The repairs took much longer than expected, the quality of the work was okay and a small bit of cleanup was never completed. I provided feedback to Carolina Restoration Services and Jason called me immediately with sincere concern and wanted to make sure things were completed to the highest level of quality and satisfaction. He came out that afternoon to take a look at the work and finish up a few things. He agreed to repaint areas where there were paint issues. The team that came out to repaint was wonderful! Prompt, courteous, professional and did an excellent job. Due to my experience with the mitigation team and Jason's prompt response and commitment to quality and customer satisfaction I would hire them again. read more
