They did not inform me ahead of time what my insurance did and did not cover and ended up charging me $120 for an eye exam even though my copay was $20 and their reasoning is that I have astigmatism which I informed them of ahead of time and they still told me it would be a $20 co pay. This is sneaky and unacceptable. I purchased lenses and not frames and inquired on contacts with them. I swiped my card for the lens purchase that day and was called the next week and was told my insurance benefit was already used. Keep in mind I specifically asked them about this benefit since I was not purchasing frames and they informed me that I would still be able to utilize it for contacts. Now the next week comes and they claim that was miscommunication and they can't use the benefit for both when I specifically inquired on both with them. Keep in mind I already purchased the lenses so now I would have to pay out of pocket. They told me the week prior it would be $83 if I didn't use my insurance and now Anita is claiming for it to be $170. Another miscommunication. So I suggest before you go here, you read on your benefit and you know about it front and back because they will not be helpful at all with what your insurance covers. Now they claim they don't usually do refunds and the only way they can do that is via check So their miscommunication has now cost me hundreds of dollars which is really great. I came in here in a good mood and left extremely frustrated and now the next week even more frustrated nobody here is helpful. Everybody is in a rush and not friendly. Do not go here. I also asked to speak to the supervisor and no one has contacted me since.

We have also had an excellent experience with the optical shop - we appreciate the wide selection of frames and service from the optician .The ordering of new prescription glasses has always been smooth and we have been happy with any minor issues that end up popping up. They take more insurance plans than most places in this area and their provide exceptional care It took a few weeks to get in but the exam and fittings are a well-oiled machine with the doctor doing all the testing and exam instead of a tech which was nice. Dr. Sykes is very personable and attentive. He was able to find the right type of contact lens for reading and distance so I don't have to wear my wear my readers on the top of my head anymore. My husband goes here as well and they were very patient with teaching him how to use contact lenses. I like that it's smaller and patient-focused-not like the huge doc in a box places. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a place for all your eye care needs.

I went for an eye exam, and told Dr. Bakir afterwards that I would not be purchasing my progressive glasses there, that I tended to use Zenni because of being on a strict budget. She didn't seem too pleased, but gave me my prescription. Later as I went to order on Zenni, I noticed that she put for my ADD/reading level a level higher than what I use daily. I paused but thought well, she is the trained licensed professional, so went ahead and put the numbers she had written in on my order. I got my order from Zenni and the glasses were completely unusable due to her mistake. I contacted her twice via email (she has always been lightning fast responsive previously) and she did not ever bother to respond. So I am not only out of $120 for an incorrect eye exam, I am also out the $ for the progressives I cannot use- and did not even get the consideration of her response to help me resolve her mistake so I could have a pair of usable updated glasses. Like, I get that mistakes can be made- but when you make a mistake providing a service that negatively impacts your customer, you should be good enough to fix it. I have always had a good experience with the optometrists but have had issues with the opticians the past two years. Last year, my prescription was changed such that all the negative powers were entered as positive and vice versa. I had only discovered the problem after picking up the glasses late one Saturday afternoon and had to have the lenses remade once they figured out what the error was. This year, I went in and found out that they no longer supply Essilor lenses and coatings which are my preference. This is because I used to work for the company that makes the equipment that Essilor uses to put coatings on their lenses so I am well aware of the quality of Essilor's lenses and coatings. I was a bit hesitant but decided to get glasses anyway since I was there. They came in about 10 days later but I received a message that they didn't pass a quality check and they were being sent back to be remade. I got the final pair about 2 weeks later. I had only worn them 3 or 4 times when I noticed a small smudge in the corner about 2 weeks after that. I tried removing it with the cloth provided, then with the cloth and water, and finally with lens cleaning spray, always with the lens cloth. Since it wasn't coming off, I took it in thinking they could get it off but they said it was a scratch. To be fair, I did not have the scratch warranty as I've had glasses for 45 years and never had an issue and having worked in the business am aware how to care for them. To me, it seemed like a defect. The optician's exact words were, "Well, you didn't purchase the warranty so there's nothing we can do. Have a good day." And then she walked away. Well, I'm walking away from this business.

I've been a patient at Carolina Ophthalmology for the last several years (see my separate review of…read moretheir office). And I've been a glasses-wearer since, well, third grade. Growing up, I stubbornly refused to sport them and would only put them on when trying to read the clock -- or the chalkboard. (It's a wonder I graduated, really.) I was finally able to get contacts in high school (oh, happy day that was). But the worry of losing one in gym or remembering to pack eye solution for vacation and so on was always an annoyance. I wanted to have LASIK but it just really wasn't a financial reality until recently. Even better, the office was running a special that came to $1,000 off or so. I know you may be thinking: discount eye surgery? Eep! I've always been a patient of Dr. Scroggs and so when I had my initial consultation, it was my first meeting with Dr. Bryan -- the LASIK surgeon. I felt like I was in very good hands the whole time. Pam first talked to me about the procedure and then showed me a video. I had my eyes examined and a cornea scan done, plus a sit-down Q&A with the doctor, and was declared a good candidate for the procedure. The worst part of the whole thing has to be a tie between being forced to wear my old-prescription eye glasses for a month leading up to the surgery (not a vanity thing, but a practical thing -- I haven't kickboxed since March!) and having slips of paper put in my eyes for five minutes to test tear reaction. Yes, it's as uncomfortable as it sounds. Anyway, the good news is since :that's: the worst part -- the day-of is really easy, breezy! Be ready for some final eye scans, a shower cap and some Valium. Yes, you'll be awake in the OR (but it's only 40 seconds each eye. And was basically painless. Dr. Bryan talked to me the entire time, let me know what was coming next and encouraged me through the parts that might have been a little scary otherwise. Plus they give you a stuffed animal to squeeze! -- I remember in my valium-ed state being very disappointed that I didn't get to keep that 'gator). But I did get thorough post-op instructions and a travel kit full of eye drops. The doctor called me at 5pm the same day to check on how I was doing. And though it's only been 24 hours since, I can see better than I ever have. Had a follow-up today, and still no stuffed gator, but I did get a tee that reads: Guess what I'm not wearing? How cute -- and dare I say... yelpy. ps) I have some $200 coupons for LASIK that are good through the end of June. PM me if you're interested.
