My wife and I are very happy with the attention and service provided by the team at Carolina Volvo. I was looking for a new car online and received a follow up email and text from Coleman Sizemore who would be our sales person. We stopped by to test drive an XC 90 plug-in hybrid and fell in love immediately with the ride and explanation of features. Crystal provided us with the information as well as the test drive. We returned to see Coleman who was able to make it all work. We came for one of the models, but left with another. They were very patient and certainly not high pressure. They offered snacks and water while we waited. The folks at the dealership were all very friendly. We came back the following week so they could continue explaining some of the technical features of the car. Worst service I have ever had in 40 years from any company . Background: I have a 2019 xc60 T8. Paid almost $70,000 for the car! I called because my turn signal in the front was not working and was heading out of town. William said they would squeeze it in because it was a safety issue. He got in. Unfortunately, as soon as I turned head lights on going out of town I got a low beam fault (that wasn't there before) and they would not work and the shop was now closed. Turn signal worked :). That was weds. I borrowed a car for my trip. The following Tuesday when I got back, I went to the dealership and explained the headlight was working when brought it in and now it doesn't. William said they were busy but would try to squeeze it in if I left it. Big mistake, I called end of day no one answered. Rolls to mailbox that is full. Can't leave a message. Called next day no progress. Asked when it would be done and William said he didn't know. They could only work on it in between scheduled services. When I suggested maybe they shouldn't fill out every slot incase there was an emergency he say he didn't want to talk about it anymore and I could talk to his manager. I said fine, and gave him my number for the manager to call. 2 more days have past no manager call. Called to check on status 3 times two days in a row. No one picks up, rolls to VM and of course it is full, can't leave a message. Decided to come to the dealership today, now Friday afternoon, as it is only way to get a status. managers too busy to talk to me and the car hasn't even been looked at even though it has now been here 4 days! Planning on sitting here till end of day since I have no car to drive to see if they get it done. Will probably be without it for the weekend and this will go into next week without a loaner car of course. Thinking of calling Charleston dealership 2 hours away to see if I can get it in on Monday. Really O stars!!!! One month for an appointment, then charged with a diagnostic fee and William said it would take another month to start work. After bringing car in for work in the 2nd month, was told by William the mechanic called in sick that day and to schedule another appointment but would have to wait one more month. Found another Volvo mechanic elsewhere who said original diagnosis was wrong. Truely unprofessional and awful experience!!!! Really theft is a better description. I called William and told them I was posting this review to provide them opportunity to refund fee but they didn't care even though they admitted my description of events was accurate. We bought a Jeep there that they shipped to us in Florida. They only sent one of the two sets of keys but oddly sent a set of Volvo keys. They as of today have still not sent the title. Going on two weeks now. Ridiculous. We can't register the car without a title. They lie. read more

They sold me a damaged car. Started having problems immediately. They kept my car for five weeks, leaving it on their grass lot, which is next to a nature preserve. When after multiple calls during that month, I was told there has rat damage, but they failed to tell me the severity, plus they never corrected the untold hazard. I took it to Hilton Head Automotive and they exposed what Carolina Volvo covered up. Below is a photo of wires behind the front dash, chewed into pieces, which I was blamed for as having rats. Had our S80 serviced and was told we needed motor mounts because of a leak. That "routine " service cost me $947.00. Few days later the check engine light came on. Took it back and had it reset. Few days later it was back on. Took it back and they diagnosed replacement of he leak detection pump. Cost $550.00! Decided to take it elsewhere. New place said engine light had no impact on the performance of the car. Wait a few days until the vapors and gas spills to evaporate. Sure enough! It has been several weeks since this happened and no check engine light. Why couldn't Volvo tell us the same? We feel like they were trying to extort another $550.00 from us. Now my husband wonders if we had a leak around our engine mount initially. We'll never know. read more

Nope! Was just there trying to replace our beautiful 2009 Volvo Sedan because, it's just time! The suv that was shown to us and drove was perfect and was on the lot for close to a year. The seller was nice but.... Was trying to get us to buy a suv that only had 1 month of its warranty remaining and was trying to get us to pay $25,000 for an suv with no warranty that only had 34000 miles on it. Yuck. I took my Volvo here and they over charged on basic repairs.

The vehicle purchase experience was a 'five' until the trade-in. The GM would not give me paperwork as proof of my trade, claiming his computer locked up or something. I had to demand written proof of my trade, which he did not want to give me, but reluctantly did after several demands. Then, they sat on my payoff and informed me that they would not pay me on my trade until they received the title (from another manufacturer's finance division - not a 3rd party lender). Have traded 30+ cars in my life and have never experienced this from any dealer - ever. Have always received a check at closing. The car was not paid off until 10 days later (I called and they gave me a lame excuse about someone being on vacation , etc., etc.) and told me it would be another 10 days to 2 weeks (after they received the title and it "cleared") before they would mail me a check. OK place to buy a car but don't trade your old car in. Go sell it somewhere else if you want to see your money. Not a trustworthy dealership! read more

I just recently moved down to South Carolina and have had to take my car to the dealership three times so far (for scheduled maintenance, to get a headlight replaced and to get the alarm system replaced). Rick and his team in the service department have always been so helpful and fair in handling all of the little things that start to go wrong with an older vehicle, and they have always been so kind to my mom! When it was obvious they needed a newer model, we went directly to Carolina Volvo first. The sales team of Danny and Todd were great and helped us to figure out the right "fit" for my elderly parents. They worked so hard at finding just the right vehicle and securing the right financing that would work for them. Very much questioning the legitimacy of their service/repair department. Its amazing how they regularly find very expensive repairs and problems. The most recent time my car was running great when I dropped it off, I was just bringing it in for routine service, and when I picked it up it sounded terrible, motor died, and wouldn't restart! Pretty big problems to suddenly arise after a regular oil change and maintenance check! They got the car running again and then claimed I needed $1000 in repairs, again in a car that was running perfectly when I dropped it off for an oil change! We declined the repairs, drove my car away and it has run perfect ever since. Previous time they claimed I needed to repair my air-conditioning for close to $2000, I took it home my husband added 1 can of freon and it has worked ever since with NO problems! I will never, EVER, bring my car in for service there again. I do not trust a word they say! read more

They have thorough product knowledge and made an extra effort to assist with my purchase, based on my personal circumstances. Although Carolina Volvo does not really promote this, I learned that their inspection and service of used vehicles prior to sale is quite comprehensive, ensuring customers of the best value with their purchase. Also notable are the extra courtesies, such as the full tank of gas to start customers out in their new vehicles. I can not begin to tell you how disappointed I was with the owner, Ralph Tolman. I had my Volvo serviced at his dealership in Hilton Head on a Friday (picked the car up Friday afternoon). Saturday morning, just setting out on my trip, a belt broke 25 minutes in - the very belt that was replaced on Friday (along with the idler pulley, etc.). After much discussion, I had my car towed to his Savannah location for review and repair (Carolina Volvo was closed for service work on Saturdays). When we arrived the owner was very gracious to me and my family and they began to investigate the problem immediately. About four hours later, my car was fixed and ready to go. As it turns out - the problem was that the belt was not properly installed @ his other dealership, Carolina Volvo - hence why it broke (I should mention as well that I had heard a noise of Friday and had mentioned it to the techs. before driving off and was told it was 'normal' - I had also called them back after driving down the road a bit, but all had left for the weekend - it was 5:15 pm.). As a result of improper installation at Carolina Volvo (Savannah and Carolina both owned by Ralph), I asked for reimbursement of the towing expense and some form of compensation for me and my family, as this error caused us to be delayed by over 6 hours and we were 1 hour further south than our starting point. Ralph was challenged by having to reimburse for towing - but agreed - however was 'highly offended' by my asking for compensation - especially in light of the fact that he had it fixed on a Saturday and that I should be lucky. Further, he told me that couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't have another mechanical problem 5 miles down the road. I wish I had only captured our exchange on video and posted on YouTube as I couldn't believe that the owner would have such an attitude and wouldn't even offer a small gesture or token - especially in light of the fact that I would not have even been there on a Saturday had the job been done right in the first place. To add further insult, I had provided him with a copy of the towing receipt for reimbursement- when I asked for it back (the only copy I had) - he told me he charged $.25 for copies (I paid him) While I would say the folks at his dealership in Hilton Head were great to deal with - this experience by the owner would only have me suggest to all to STAY AWAY as obviously his attitude is displayed by the workmanship performed at his dealerships. I personally will not go to either and based on other posts, believe my experience is not an isolated one. read more

We e-mailed them about an upper end used SUV. TSO called use as we were driving to look at another SUV. He stated the car was like new and he was ready to make us a great deal. He waived the admin fee and lowered the asking price and begged us to drive an hour in a half out of our way (Total of three hours) to look at this "Like New" SUV. They had just completed a detail of the car and we watched them drive it onto the front lot as we arrived. We inspected the car to find a dent in the tailgate that was as big as a softball, but it actually blended in because of the position and color. The SUV also looked as if it was not so clean and was in rough shape for less than 20,000 miles. We discussed the issue. TSO showed us a printout of the NADA value of the car. He added two option packages on that report the car did not have and that inflated the value by a few grand. He said he was not making any money on the car. We really have to question how he did not know what options were on that SUV and that nobody at that dealership noticed the dent. read more

Had an issue with my car late in the day, spoke to service department and arranged for car to be towed to service department after business hours. They apologized in advance they might not be able to look at car right away in the morning. In short, they assessed problem, consulted with us and made necessary repairs in time for me to pick up in 2 days. They washed and cleaned the car and was willing to wait for me if travel time extended past closing time so I would have car for an early morning appointment. Charges were very reasonable and included a significant discount. Past experiences with other dealership service departments have been very different including waiting up to two weeks for work to be completed, damages to car and minimal customer service. The service department is terrible. I took my C70 in, when still under warranty, because my radio was not holding the station presets. I took it in on a few occasions and it still does not hold them. I also had a tire that kept losing pressure. Took it in on 2 occasions and they said everything was fine. Well, guess what, I have a defective rim. They never put the tire in the dunk tank, just looked it over, and they missed the cracked rim that Tire Kingdom said appears to be a defect. And, now I am out of warranty. Signed a contract to buy a x 90 hybrid and paid on December 27 for transportation of vehicle to Florida. Contacted daily and told the general sales manager that had to have delivery by year end. I was strung out with no response on delivery date until the morning of December 31 when I was told it would be three days later. Tos told me that signed contract was enough for federal tax 2016 credit. When I told him IRS says needs delivery he told me I could still file for tax credit even though he was now planning on deLivery in yet another three days on January 3 rd. I told him I am not going to file a false tax return. When he wanted then to cancel loan and contract I said if nothing more he can do then yes. He thrn sent me an email after wasting my time for a week and running my credit report "many thanks." And losing the federal tax credit when another dealer would have made delivery as part of their offer. Not straight and would not trust. read more
