As I was loading up the car last Friday night for a week of fun in Myrtle Beach with my sons and a friend (13, 13, and 15 years), I knew I had to have one pre-planned active adventure in the works for a break in the beach action. After a quick search of rave reviews on TripAdvisor, I found just the thing with the Carolina Paddle Company. I used the online reservation tool at their website and received a response the next day from Trent confirming our 8 a.m. private tour on my chosen date. So easy! You will not be disappointed. It truly was the highlight of our week. The boys were standing up in seconds (and chided me to do the same) and we were off for a most serene and peaceful tour of the river with Trent--not another human in sight the entire time. We paddled, swam and learned much from Trent, our most excellent guide. Though we scanned the vegetation for alligators and snakes we did not see any, however, the beauty of the morning, the graceful ospreys, and the gentle river "had us all at hello." ;-) Trent also informed us about his local committee involvement to keep the river clean and the boys helped him fish out floating beer cans and other discarded garbage in the river to bring back to shore to dispose of properly. I feel like I successfully snuck in an educational experience for the boys during summer break! We literally just got back from our tour and wanted to leave a good word. You can't go wrong with this tour. Our 16 year old daughter wanted to do paddleboards. We found Carolina Waterman on Google. We were disappointed that there wasn't much on Yelp - surprising! Yelp - you holding back? Anyway, we got there and met Trent and Meghan and right away you can see these are some of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. Very, very patient with my wife and I as well as our two children and their friends (ages 19,19,16,16 for reference). They took the time to fully explain the rules, how to get on the board and stand up (very important!!), how to paddle, etc. We were all up and going down the river in under 10 minutes. The knowledge Trent and Meghan have about the area is outstanding. They have a story about almost everything and it's fun to hear. Again - obviously two very, very nice people. Along the way Trent was taking pictures of us and things around us that he'll send us later. Good thing he was taking the pictures. I'm not sure any of us were talented enough to take pictures and stay dry. One final thing - they turned this into a non-profit where they take the profits and use it for educational purposes for local children. Carolina Paddle Company is going to be a new summertime tradition for my family! My cousin and I spent an afternoon on the water with Trent, in an adventure that was part stand-up paddle board, part nature excursion, and all fun. I have been wanting to try SUP for a few years now, and am glad my first experience was with the Company. I was happy from the start, with incredibly easy online sign-up and convenient email reminders. Most SUP tours I've looked at combine multiple parties, so the one-on-one mentality and ease of booking private tours for yourself or your friends is a huge plus. Trent was our guide for the afternoon, and he focused on getting us up and out on the water - no time wasted with extra lessons on land. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the water, the sport, and the wildlife, and let the tour become as hands-on as possible (occasional stops to look at hidden flora and fauna). This was an exceptional way to get myself into SUP for the first time, and to revive an interest in my cousin (a former paddle boarder) to pick it back up. I having nothing but high praise, tremendous thanks, and of course, an unquestioned 5-star review for Carolina Paddle Company. Along with my 16 year-old son and two of his friends, the four of us signed up for a 2-hour SUP tour today and without a doubt, we all had a spectacular time. Everything about our excursion was fantastic, from the easy to use online reservation system, to the beautiful location where we began and ended our journey. We all agree it was our guide, Trent (Mowgli) Ventura who made this a very special day, one we will all remember for a very long time. Simply put, Trent is a great instructor...within minutes we were all up on our boards, moving confidently along the water. While we were taking in the spectacular scenery, learning about the local history, and the surrounding wildlife, one thing was abundantly clear, we were all enjoying our time together * (some of you may understand, these moments become few and far between as your kids get older), so for that I'm eternally grateful. When I found out I got to go with my parents on a vacation to Myrtle Beach, I knew that I wanted to try standup paddle boarding while I was there if I could. Not having much of a plan, and having no experience with it, I just googled for shops in my area, and came up with the Carolina Paddle Company. That turned out to be a complete stroke of luck, because I feel that Trent, the owner, is the best instructor you could get as a first timer. We met at his shop - which is hard to find, but he gives good instructions - I filled out some paperwork, and we were on the river shortly after. He does a great job of explaining the basics, and goes slow with you while you figure it out. If you're lucky you'll also see some awesome wildlife on your trip. Next time I'm in Myrtle Beach, I definitely plan on taking another lesson (or two or three). This is the place to go for SUP, hands down. read more

Never been paddle boarding before but I cant imagine it gets any better than this. All around great experience. Easy to schedule an appointment online, Trent showed up right on time, and we were on the water 15 minutes after meeting at his shop. He did not make us feel rushed at all and it was a great experience on the water. He loves what he does and it definitely shows when he's on the water with you. We will definitely return to him every time we come to Myrtle Beach. I dont know the "going rate" of paddle board tours but do not let his prices discourage you, it is worth every penny considering we saw gators, catfish, woodpeckers, and osprey. On a recent family vacation, our extended family decided to try something new and seeing the amazing reviews we decided that we would get SUP with Carolina Paddle Company a try. Seven adults ended up going ranging in age from 20-60 and all different levels of fitness. Jay was our tour guide and gave us a quick land lesson then we were on our way. It was not long before all of us we standing up and paddling around. We took a nice tour around the refuge it was beautiful and we got the opportunity to see lots of wildlife. Jay was wonderful he pointed out both animals and plants that were native to the area and told us stories. The whole group had a wonderful time. This stand up paddle boarding excursion was one of the best parts of our trip! My family had never been to Myrtle Beach before, so we had no idea what to do or where to go besides the beach or the strip. TripAdvisor pointed us here, and we were definitely NOT disappointed! Three girls - my mom, myself, and my best friend - all managed to do the 2 hour long trip. Our guide, Jay, didn't mind at all that we were probably a little slower than normal! We got to see an alligator, many turtles, and some beautiful flowers that Jay picked for us(: He knew so much about the area, and was fun and easygoing the whole time. Definitely an activity I would recommend to anyone, regardless of experience level or age, and one we will be doing again if we come back. read more

Would highly recommend the Carolina Paddle Company. We spent 4 days in North Myrtle Beach, and were looking for something adventurous and different. We booked a 2 hour 8:00am paddleboard tour and LOVED it. Trent took care of all the details and was extremely professional. We saw all kinds of wildlife, including two osprey nests and lots of wildflowers. My husband and son swam in the Waccamaw River to cool off 1/2 way through the trip. Trent even went out of his way to catch (and release) a harmless rough green snake for our daughter who loves reptiles and snakes. Just returned home from a great vacation to Myrtle Beach highlighted by a wonderful paddleboard experience with Trent from Carolina Paddle Co. This was my first time on a paddleboard and I ended up having a great time. Part of my group (my kids) had been once before and were happy repeat customers. Trent was great with the entire group and while the paddling was fun, he very much made it an educational tour too. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the native plants and animals. Our family booked a paddleboard trip with Trent while we were vacationing in Myrtle. They were flexible with our time/day that week due to numerous storms and showers. Once we actually got there, it was terrific. It was the highlight of our week in Myrtle. We had a group of four, myself and my wife who have previous experience with stand up paddle boarding, as well as my brother in law and a friend who were brand new to the sort. Trent was very helpful and did a great job teaching our two novices as well helping myself and my wife with some tips as well. Our guide, Trent, was very knowledgeable & made our paddleboard tour on the river a great experience. He pointed out the wildlifte in the area and made sure to get many photos during our trip. Paddleboarding is very easy to learn and the whole family was standing on their boards & paddling within a few minutes of the initial demonstration. Awesome! Our groups ages were 5, 9, 32, 36, 45 & 59, and each one had a different skill level; however, Trent was able to have each one of us paddle boarding like pros in no-time (the 5 yr old rode with Trent, and loved it)! If you aren't athletic, don't let this deter you from doing this, because you can. We have been coming to Myrtle Beach for 25 years, and really wish we would have found Carolina Paddle Company sooner, because it was so much fun, and something we would do again! We visit Myrtle Beach every summer and had never done anything like this before. We have a 10 yr. old son and a 2 1/2 yr. old daughter. They both loved it and my son even went swimming in the water.
