What a Total watersport experience. We started with a Sailboat Ride the first day. Captain Jake was an experienced sailor and made the ride really fun and wet. He was a pleasure to talk with and had a lot of great recommendations for other activities at Downwind Sails as well as other Myrtle Beach locations. We decided to parasail on day two. I have parasailed in a lot of other destinations, but this is the most professional and safety conscious crew that still know how to make it FUN. One of the highlights of our Girl's Trip was definitely parasailing with Downwind Sails Watersports! We arrived at around 1:45pm hoping to be able to book for a 2pm slot and thankfully, they were super accommodating. Once we signed our waivers, we paid the parasailing fee ($98pp after tax) and the additional photo fee which was $30. After we dropped off all of our belongings at the Reservation Area, we were directed to the beach to grab our life vests. With it being Mid June, the sand was very hot but once we got to the water, we were fine. What we were unaware of was the banana boat that we had to take to get to the parasailing boat. It was definitely a pleasant surprise but a fun experience nonetheless. Once we arrived to the parasailing boat, the guys were extremely helpful and informative. They hooked us up to the harnesses and gave us a quick rundown of the rules. Parasailing was, by far, one of the most breathtaking and invigorating experiences I've ever had! I absolutely loved it and it was quite peaceful. Unfortunately, my friend did get queasy after a while so we had to cut our ride a bit short but the guys were very nice and made sure to give my friend some water until the other couple finished their ride. The rides lasted maybe 8-10 mins. If you're planning to visit Myrtle Beach or even live in the area, definitely check out Downwind Sails Watersports. There are height and weight restrictions so definitely check out their site for all the details but the staff were wonderful and the parasailing was amazing! read more

This was so much fun!! We chose parasailing so we got to ride out on the banana boat then transfer over to the other boat to rig up. The view is amazing. Our last day of our weekend (7/10/23) at Myrtle beach we decided to do parasailing with downwind sails Watersports and it was so fun! The weather wasn't cooperating much and we thought we might have to cancel because of the rain but as soon as there was a two hour window of no rain they got us straight in!! We were put on a banana boat and brought to the boat where we did the parasailing which was fun on its own especially because of the choppy water. We loved the two guys on the boat they were super nice, friendly, and very knowledgeable - definitely made us feel safe. I wanted to book an introductory sailing lesson for myself and my daughter on our annual family vacation. Online Downwind Sails indicates that you can book a sailing lesson online, but when I tried several weeks, I just got an error message saying I had to call to book a lesson. So I called. I was then told that I needed to call back the week of our vacation so that they could check the weather and make sure it was suitable for sailing. (Btw, the one previous time I have ever done a sailing lesson, I was able to book it online in advance, it was simply contingent upon the weather holding up). So anyway, the week of our vacation I called again, with high hopes because the weather reports looked good. Then I was told that they didn't actually reserve times, it was just first come first served. So, the evening before our intended sailing lesson, I emailed them to say we'd be by the next day. The MORNING OF our hoped-for lesson I got an email back saying that their instructor was gone for the weekend. This was the first indication I had in any of these multiple contact attempts that they had only one instructor and that everything depended on that one person's availability that weekend. Fortunately I had built some flexibility into our vacation plans so I had a fallback date available a few days later. I wrote them back, asking if their instructor would be available on that day. No response through the end of our vacation. Thanks a lot, Downwind. Thanks to your unprofessionalism, your self-contradictory messages, your misleading advertising online, and other lack of responsiveness, my daughter missed out on an experience I'd hoped to give her. If I'd known what kind of operation this was, I would have made other arrangements for those days of our vacation. read more

Forgot to leave a review of this business! My wife and I parasailed for our first time on July 2nd with this business and we couldn't of been more pleased with our experience! The staff all were very professional and friendly, they all were concerned for our safety making sure everything was just right. We paid online and had a coupon for $5 off each and forgot to use it, so the girls running the counter took the $10 off our pictures which was very nice! It was fun getting to ride the banana boat out to the parasailing boat, so you got two rides and while the other couples parasail you get a nice ride on the boat till everyone is done! They are always courteous and helpful. You can tell they also prioritize safety and make sure everyone feels comfortable during the entire experience. I want to give 2 reviews; one 5 stars and one no stars. We had such an awesome experience renting a hobie car from this crew on Wednesday. Fun and friendly folks and it was a great experience the attendants on the beach were awesome.. So we went back on Thursday to parasail and frankly it was just the opposite; the girl working the life jackets (petite, bobbed brown hair) MADE FUN OF ME. She completely bagged me for wearing my shark bandz. And frankly who was she to do that. She laughed at me and said "is that a watch? Omg it's one of those shark band things. Jesus lady it's not that kind of ride." And then snort laughed at me. I had to walk away so as to not say something nasty in return. But it just was such a punch for no reason. Then when we got to the boat with the parasail it was like both attendants were in such a bad bloody mood. The driver and the attendant were both so sour and not even into it. But it was OUR holiday even if it was the end of their season. They didn't even offer to dip us or make it exciting, so honestly it was boring. It was a lot of money to pay to be treated like garbage. Or like a burden. read more

Hands down the greatest experience! I was very nervous to parasail the first time, the captain and his mate joked and had me laughing while encouraging me to just relax and enjoy it and made me feel safe. With my nerves still on edge as soon as we took off he did a quick dunk in the water and that loosened me up a bit and had me laughing. My friend and I enjoyed it so much we went back the next day for another flight. We had a different captain and mate but they too were absolutely amazing! I HIGHLY recommend these people. Okay, first the good... The banana boat ride out to the boat was fun at first, but boring to sit and wait until it was time to actually board the boat to parasail. The driver could have at least given us a ride around while we were waiting. The crew on the Endeavor was great! They were very personable and helpful. We had a great ride and the parasailing was a lot of fun! Now for the bad. We made a reservation the day before for 1:30 pm. We called to check and they said to arrive at 1:00 to sign waivers. Do we arrived by 1:00 and signed our waivers and walked down to the beach to wait in the lime, which was very long. The sun was hot and there were no umbrellas, no water, no anything to help. We were told that if we got out of line we would lose our place. We waited in that line for almost 2 hours! It was 3:00 before we got on the banana boat. When I asked why we had to wait even though we had a reservation, we were told that a reservation was really just a guarantee that we would get to ride that day. When I talked to a manager, she said we could get out of line and go sit under the building. We didn't really trust that, though, because they moved people up ahead of us to group people together. That would have been fine, except that there was a group of two directly ahead of us that they ignored and moved people from behind us up. That bumped all of us back another boat. The only concession we received is that they comped our pictures since we hadn't paid up front for them. The bottom line is that this is a poor way to run a business. If they are taking reservations, then they need to honor those. At the very least, they need to spend just a little bit of the big $ that they're charging and buy a few umbrellas and maybe have cold water available for people who have to wait in long lines in the scorching sun. read more

We did their banana boat on 29th street. It was easy to find parking and the wait was not too bad. The ride was around 10, 15 minutes long but for the price of $25 you also got pictures. It was very fun. The guide definitely wanted us to bounce on the waves, I almost fell many times and my hands were sore from holding on for my life but it was soooooo fun! Do it and enjoy it but be ready to bounce bounce bounce!!!!! read more

Staff is wonderful, the ease of getting there and parking is a breeze, and the entire experience is a thrill. Me and my sister chose the parasailing for two package, which was $99 plus tax. Parking is free if you're paying for their services. We took the banana boat out to the boat where he parasailing took place. The banana boat ride was so fun! I held on so tight because the guy was trying to make us fall off lol. I could've just done the banana boat and be happy. The parasailing didn't take very long. We were in the air for about 10 minutes. The view was nice but I saw this view from the airplane window lol. My son and I rented a catamaran from Downwind Sails on 8/27/2018. We took a half hour lesson and a one hour rental. The weather and the wind were both perfect as was the catamaran. After the 1 1/2 hours were up they notified us but we asked for additional time! We had so much fun and relaxation at the same time we ended up staying on the water for 4 hours. I had an excellent experience here. Our Captian was Johnny for a sailboat ride. First off, this is extremely affordable! We paid $20.00 total for two people for a 30 minute ride. If you are looking for an affordable family excursion this is where to start. Children as young as two years old can sail, as long as the water isn't rough. Second is the experience. Johnny, the driver, was one of the friendliest people on the planet. He showed us how the boat worked and even allowed me to maneuver the boat at one point. The experience is what you pay for. Johnny has been doing this for more than 30 years and shows you everything he can. We saw sharks, schools of fish, jellyfish and more all while staying close to the shoreline. This parasailing adventure was very seamless. We booked online. We got the time we wanted. We arrived a bit early. Signed our waivers. We used the bathroom facilities (port-o-potty) But you know, you'll have that. We did pay upfront for pictures that they take. No cameras/phones allowed on boat. No shoes either. They take you on an exhilarating banana boat ride (hang on tight) to the boat that actually does the parasailing. The captain and his mate were very friendly and made everything very easy. We really enjoyed ourselves. The only thing that would have made this a bit more fun would have been music and the boat crew to be a bit more interactive. But, no complaints at all. We waited a few minutes for our turn and were loaded on a banana boat with another couple. Our parasailing boat was Atlantic. So now I want to cancel and am within the cancel period but not able to get in contact with them. Extremely unprofessional. So, I called the old place phone number which is Ocean Watersport located on 3rd S street. Didn't know they sold the business to Aloha. Aloha move their business to another location North of Myrtle Beach but they didn't change their website nor the phone number. I called on the day of to book reservation for my husband & my kids for parasailing. They gave us the 10am time slot. My husband even got the text with the direction to their old location which we thought it is. Only 10 minutes walk from our hotel. When we got there just to find out it's not Aloha and obviously our name wasn't on the list. But they're nice enough to squeeze us in, there's only about 15 mins wait considering we have no reservation. My husband & kids got on the banana boat out to the sea got on the big boat for parasailing. It was their first time so they loving it. They thought it was really fun. Great boat ride too. read more

Very friendly staff. We visited on a day they were super busy. The usual policy on parasailing requires you to make a reservation, but we called last minute and they were able to squeeze us in. We have parasailed before but this was totally a different experience. They take you to a boat on a banana boat connected to Jet Ski, where you start your flight in middle of the ocean. You also get to enjoy the boat ride since there are always other people ahead or behind you ready for their flight. Price is worth it since you get three different rides' experiences basically. read more

We made reservations online to rent a jet ski at 10 in the morning. When we got there we were told they couldn't open until 12 because of the tide. Our hotel was in North Myrtle Beach (30 minutes away) so we were a little annoyed. We made the reservations online that morning so if the tide was an issue we shouldn't have been able to reserve anything before 12. Despite that, we had a great time. The staff were very friendly and showed us how to use the jet ski and went over all the safety information. It was a two-mile course with buoys set out in the ocean for us to drive around. The waves were coming in quick so they had to drive us out past the surf on the jet skis and then let us take off. That might have been the best part because my driver was crashing through the waves and getting some air time which was incredible. The 30 minute ride ($70 for two people) seemed to last longer than I thought and I was happy that they had no problem with my wife and I switching in the middle to we could both drive. It was a great time, despite the wait (may have even been worth it). I would highly recommend Downwind Sails, just call before you head out there. read more
