I've been a patient of Dr. Courtney Dryer for five years now. Every experience I've had there has been fantastic and I will continue to go to her for my annual eye exam and frames. It's located upstairs in a large space decorated like a boutique. They have cute and quirky decorations that really liven the place up. There's a small waiting area where you can watch TV while you wait except that I've never had to wait in the five years I've been coming here. Dr. Dryer does a fantastic job with remembering details about her patient's lives and makes great conversation. She's very friendly and personable throughout the appointment. Her mom Lana is at the front desk and helps with all the paper work and finding frames. They do a great job and explain the purpose of each test performed. I highly recommend Autarchic Spec Shop. I had gotten to a point where I was wearing my glasses full time and I was ready for a change. On my first visit with autarchic, they did a thorough eye exam where they explained the purpose of each test. Then they fitted me for contact lenses. I particularly liked how they walked me through putting them in and taking them out multiple times before I left. While i struggled a little at first, their instructions are now second nature and I can insert my contacts quickly on the first try (as long as I dont blink them out first. Since my visit, they helped me order a year supply of contacts over the phone. I left a message and they quickly responded. The shop itself is eclectic and cute with a very boutique feel. Dr. Dryer & her staff have always been personable & excellent when it comes to delivering amazing customer service. There were a few times where I missed a year in between eye exams and I got reminders to come in, but due to my schedule it slipped my mind, however when I came two years later they remembered who I was & what I did for work & that made me feel like they truly cared & it kept me coming back to see them. The office is always clean, chic, & I love the intimate setting they have. Their choices of glasses are amazing and when I'm out and about with them I always get compliments on my eyeglasses. Live in the neighborhood and was directed here as an option that accepted my insurance. Made my way up to the top floor and was immediately to made to feel welcome after scheduling a same-day appointment. Dr. Courtney Dryer grew up in Charlotte and was friendly and efficient. She clearly must have taken some business and design courses while a student at Liberty University, as she shop stays on top of advances in contacts, the new patient process was smooth, and the main room is very stylish with colors and patterns. Great small shop is another standout for Montford Park. Their website says "independent eyewear focusing on quality and individuality" and is say that is spot on. read more

Last year, I needed an eye exam and didn't want to go to my old place due to a really bad exam/prescription/billing experience. So many positive reviews for this place, so I called. I spoke with Lana who took my insurance information. I explained I get eye exams through my regular health insurance, she said that wasn't possible. I explained again that it was and provided the number for my company's benefits. Unfortunately, the person she called didn't understand the request and looked for "regular" vision benefits (we can purchase this also, but it's really for people who need glasses, contacts, surgery, etc.) and they told her I didn't have vision benefits. Lana called me back and told me this, explaining she'd called 3x and they said I didn't have vision benefits. I called and was told I did have 1 "free" eye exam every two years, covered under my regular health insurance - I got Lana directly in touch with this person to explain. I thought we were all set when both parties were connected and my eye exam benefit was verified. When I arrived for my appointment, all was good. I liked Dr Dryer and had a good exam. I am mid-40s and was told I'd probably need readers soon, but not a big deal yet - but I am slightly near-sighted and it bothers me while driving at night - so I opted for a new pair of glasses. Dr Dryer encouraged me to get bifocals ("transitions" lenses, where the bifocal wasn't obvious) - but I didn't really want them. She wrote a prescription for them, "just in case." When I sat down with Lana, she recommended a great pair of frames...but then the pushing started. She thought I should get transitions lenses, I said I didn't want them. Over and over and over she told me I should get them, how great they are, how I'll love them, how if she could get used to them, anyone could, blah blah blah. I was dubious, but in the end, I got them. When I went to pick them up, I got my fitting and again, she was too aggressive about how I should wear my glasses "all the time" to get used to them - even though I told her repeatedly I didn't want or need to wear them all the time. I ended up paying for everything and was surprised at the bill, but she told me that was what my insurance coverage allowed. I can't remember exactly how much it was - but it was well over $600 for everything. I tried wearing the glasses all the time and I HATED them. I hated the transitions lenses, I didn't need them - they made my night vision blurry, and I ended up not wearing them. I called back a few weeks later and asked to have regular lenses put in. When I went back, I got the 3rd degree about "not giving them a chance" and "if I wore them all the time, I'd love them" - but I persisted. That said, they did replace them at no charge and I like my new glasses now. However, I then called my insurance because I was concerned about paying so much. Part of the charge was for my frames, which I knew I had to pay because I didn't have separate vision coverage (see above) - however, they told me: #1. That I paid about twice what the contracted rate was and #2. That I wasn't eligible for an exam yet, because I could only go every 2 years, and I was ONE WEEK early. They refused to reimburse any of the money. In the end, I like Dr Dryer, but feel Lana is way too pushy. I am the customer, if I say I do not want transitions lenses, stop trying to push me into it. Stop trying to tell me to wear my glasses all the time if I don't want to. Give me your advice and leave it at that. Don't try to push people into things they do not want. I have no problems saying no, but it was really tiring saying, "But I don't want to wear my glasses all the time. I don't want to. I never will." I shouldn't have to explain myself. Finally, why even give them my insurance information if they don't find out the correct contracted rate OR check to make sure I'm within the time limits and eligible for an exam? I understand insurance is a pain to deal with, but it's part of their job to do so. I really wanted to find a great, locally-owned, independent eye doctor and not a big chain - but I won't be going back here. The quest continues... read more

Dr. Dryer and her staff were knowledgeable, friendly, but most of all treated me like family. Not to mention the showroom is adorable and stocked with the best glasses. When I first called Autarchic, I needed to see a doctor right away for an urgent issue. The staff got me in the same day, and they billed my medical insurance. Everyone treated me with such care and compassion that I decided to return for my glasses and contacts the following week! I have always been told that my job doesn't offer vision benefits, but the staff is so thourough that they found me benefits my HR department didn't even know I had! I loved Dr. Dryer and my experience at 4 Eyes! I'm a millennial living 1200 miles away from my mom, so unsure of another way to find a reliable doctor, I used yelp. Thankful to say I was not disappointed!! The frames are a little expensive because this is a boutique, but these ladies were incredibly helpful with their recommendations and quick and thorough with the exam! Dr. Dryer and her staff will make sure you have an excellent visit. Although it's never "fun" to get your eyes checked out, it's something I'm almost excited to do because of how nice they are! Dr. Dryer is super knowledgeable and won't rush you out of there; she takes her time to make sure you get the most out of your annual visit. They're also pretty tech-savvy in their appointment making process and you can knock out a good portion of the paperwork process online...which is a bonus for me! Bottom line: Great doctor, great staff. You won't regret it! read more
