The worst. I flew into Charlotte last night and the airline lost my bag that had my contacts in it. I reached out to Dr. Moore's office to see if I Could purchase a trial pair to hold me over and they refused to help me. I provided a copy of my prescription and they talked to my doctors office in California who also faxed them my RX. I understand they need to do their due diligence and confirm my prescription which is 100% valid, but to turn someone away that is in honest need..... YIKES. I can't believe I've never written a review for my eye dr! Shame on me! I've been coming here since I moved to Charlotte six years ago and I still love it no matter what doc I've seen. Sara is my new favorite and I've been her patient for the past three years. She's fun, relatable, approachable and you can tell she loves what she does. Last year we found out we both got puppies around the same time and we shared stories of how crazy we both were and she actually helped me with what to do! This year we both laughed at our progress and the fact that we didn't somehow screw up raising our puppies! hahaha! I'm very disappointed and do not recommend this office. In late 2020 (around Nov) the dr had me try a new contact prescription in each eye. After trying them at home from samples I was given, I ordered the prescription provided even though they felt a little off, thinking my eyes would need to adjust; I was in desperate need of more contacts. I received the order of contacts; however, after wearing the samples longer, I determined that the new prescription in my right eye was still off. I called the office to discuss the issue, they had me come in. I went to the office and after working with the dr to try different prescriptions, we decided that I needed a different prescription from originally ordered for my right eye. To make the return of the previous order happen, the Dr office said I needed to leave the boxes of contacts with them, failing to mention that this would only kick off a return NOT an exchange or a purchase of the new prescription. After returning home and another phone call later, someone explained that in order to get the new contacts I would have to pay for them (another $400 and I had already paid for them; I was merely exchanging them), but that they would reimburse me once the return of the original order was processed. I trusted that they would reimburse me within a reasonable time, so I proceeded to order and pay for the new prescription (MISTAKE). I called over the course of more than 3 month, several times to see where my refund; they'd reassure me it was coming; I'd leave messages, or someone would tell me that they would call me back and wouldn't. I was always very calm, reasonable, and respectful in my interactions because I get it, mistakes happen, but it was extremely frustrating and being around 5 months pregnant I was over it. Rather than deal with them anymore I disputed the contact transaction on my credit card. I thought it was done and over with. Flash forward to Oct 2021, I'm at the beach with my family enjoying the last bit of my parental leave (I had received the boxes of new contacts at this point and they had been working for me perfectly), but turns out the brand new box of contacts I grabbed to bring with me was the wrong prescription! I wear a -7.0 and I put one pair from the new box in my eyes and turns out they were a -0.50, a HUGE difference. Other boxes from the new order were correct, so I assumed that these last two boxes were too. I started to scramble to find a local dr who would be willing to give me samples for the week so I could enjoy my time because it really stinks wearing glasses at the beach. Unfortunately, they needed my prescription in order to help me, so here I was having to call Dr. Moore's office again. I spoke with the office manager and she was being very helping trying to find solutions for me to have contacts for the week. Ultimately, we were unable to find a local office to help, so we determined the best solution was for them to send me a box of new ones and overnight them BUT I had to pay for them ($117). I told her let's do it (I'm desperate) and I would call her when I got home to figure out how we would handle correcting the box of wrong contacts and that I would have to check what prescription the last box of contacts was that was still at home. Well I get home and of course the last box is also the wrong prescription, so I call Dr Moore's office and ask to speak to the office manager who I had been working with. I tell her I have two boxes of the wrong prescription and ask her what happens from here. She told me that she wasn't sure how to handle it and a dr would have to call me back. To give the dr a few days. I said sure no problem. Crickets. I called one week later, the manager didn't come to the phone after she heard who was calling, had the woman on the phone tell me they were waiting on the dr to call me, and that the dr would call me that day. Guess what? No call, still waiting, and out approx. $317 for constant mistakes and zero effort to make things right. read more

I wear progressive lenses so getting the right correction for me to be able to read took a few tries of prescription strength. She was patient and ensured I had the best fit! Thank you! read more

Admittedly, this place is a pain in the patootie to find. If you're not familiar with the area and the parking situation, you might find yourself a little lost and annoyed, especially since parking isn't free. You have to park at the Bank of America Center parking (6th floor) and then walk in through the weird motion-sensor double doors that both swing open when you get close. Walk all the way forward through the lobby and over the skybridge (either one) into the "plaza" area. Ignore all the signs, as none of them will say any names of any place that will help you. With the parking area and skybridge behind you, Steven Moore will be on the left side of the plaza. I was immediately greeted upon walking in and taken over to the opticians. Right away, the woman helping me expertly recognized the features of my face that significantly narrowed down my eyeglass search. I'm Asian, so the bridge of my nose doesn't do anything to help prop up regular frames, especially if there is no nose piece. I've also got a rounder face, which means I can't wear those stupid cute little petite frames or the cat eye frames that are annoyingly popular and pervasive right now. But I didn't have to say any of these things. It wasn't an airheaded sales person who just absent-mindedly pointed me to whatever was in style. She actually did her job. YAY. The customer service was excellent, and they have a huge selection of frames for every kind of face. I was so pleased. I wanted to shop around a little more, but I decided I'd stop right here. She was upfront with the cost of the lenses, frames, everything. She pulled up my insurance right away and explained very clearly the pros and cons of this or that. We found a nice plastic frame for me, which usually is a no-go for ye olde Asian face, but she mentioned that we can actually get a nose piece added to it. YES. Sold. Highly recommend! I certainly love Dr. Moore, however the wait time at this location has just gotten out of hand. It's bad enough the frames are a 300% mark up, but to have to wait forever to been seen just adds to the frustration. I have been visting Dr. Steven C. Moore's office for a few years, but unfortately in 2013 I did not make it there, for my yearly visit. So, on my year end vacation I decided to take advantage of my insurance for the year and went to another eye doctor. Unfortunately my lenses were blurry and not right for a few months..and I did not wear my glasses. So, early this month I decided to stop in Steven C. Moore's office to see if I could have an eye and lense check. Needless to say the prescrption from the other office was wrong. I had a full eye exam and chose a new pair of glasses for my "correct" lenses to be places. I was told they would be ready in 7-10 days and on day 4 I received a call they were ready. And, I love my new glasses and can see perfectly. Service was outstanding and I hate that other reviewers did not receive the experience I did. I look forward to my follow up appointment and know I will not choose another eye doctor again. read more

My appointment: Nice staff. Short wait (less than 30 minutes) then off to the patient's room. My doc was Dr. Bunich, who seemed to think I might be an expert on African-American tv shows from the 70s. Eye exam seemed thorough. Contact lenses over-priced. Over-priced glasses inexpensive because of our insurance. Follow-up: I had to call twice to receive a document I needed for my insurance. Possibly the first one got lost in the mail... Final analysis: I choose this practice because of a referral from a family friend. The downtown location is not convenient for us and coupled with my experience and that of the other Yelp! reviewers, we will be looking for another provider for these services. read more

I was travelling from out of town and the nose pad on my glasses broke. I was recommended to try Steven C Moore to see if they could help. I was amazed at how well they treated me! They did not have the needed spare part so they dismantled a demo pair of glasses, replaced my broken nose pad assembly and did not even accept any payment. Now that is what I call service and if it were possible I would travel the ~2,750 miles from where I live to buy my next pair of glasses from Steven C Moore. Thank You! read more

I have been going to this practice for over the past 5 years and thus far have been very pleased on my experiences. I went in this week for my annual eye exam on 9/7, as I typically do and everything seemingly went well. Unfortunately the day after 9/8 my visit, I woke up with a swollen left eye including redness, discharge, and irritation. I reached out to the practice and came in today 9/9 (2 days after initial appointment) to be seen. I had contracted a bacterial/viral infection in my left eye. I would like to note that considering the pandemic I am completely working remotely with no other potential exposures from the timeframe I went to be seen for my annual visit Tuesday 9/7 midday to when I contracted the infection on Wednesday 9/8 morning. I am very concerned on the sanitation practices and level they are kept up based on this. To further disappoint, when I brought my concerns to the office it was deflected and mentioned it was just as likely I picked this up elsewhere. Which furthers my concerns on ownership of the sanitation procedures here. I was provided with a sample steroid drops (Zylet) for the infection, however it was not a sufficient supply to cover the needed amounts. I was advised I will have to get a prescription that will cost $90. The practice did have sufficient amounts of samples to provide, but indicated they would not opt to provide to me as they only receive a certain amount monthly. I am very disappointed that I not only contracted this infection from the office, but further lost time away from work, had to pay to park Uptown to go back for this follow up appointment, and will have to pay additionally for the prescription needed. This is all in addition to discomfort and a potential I may now infect my family and children which will cause further discomfort and inconveniences. I would not recommend visiting this practice and after 5 years I will be looking to find another doctor. Thank you. read more

Poor customer service, owing to incompetent front office--and failure to supervise. Following my visit, the office was supposed to order my contacts and have them delivered. When I called 10 days later to say they never arrived, I was told things had slipped through the cracks, but they would be ordered that day and shipped for overnight delivery. Four days later I've been told (yet again), that the office failed to place the order. It is now two weeks from the original conversation with the front office--and I am still without contact lenses. Each time I've called I've spoken to a different person, none of whom has a clue about the status of the order; and I've been placed on hold for long periods of time. Fed up, I asked the last time to speak with Dr. Moore about this atrocious service and received a call back from yet another assistant, saying she'd like to help me but she was leaving for the day, and I should call back tomorrow. I hope you're reading this, Dr. Moore. You're an okay doctor, but you need to get control of your incompetent front desk. Fed up! read more

You know that Dr. that you've been going to for so long that eventually you bring your kids to him. I had that moment today, I scheduled an appointment for my 6 year old with Dr. Moore. Dr. M helped me get my first pair of glasses in 1996. I'm a pretty easy customer but my wife is more complicated. We've been going there for almost two decades now and what we like about the experience is the friendly service we encounter but also that we are not just cranked through the machine. He always takes time to ask about family, life, concerns about eye care and health (oh and never upsells me on what I could get.) I know he has other customers waiting but he still takes those extra few minutes to treat me like a person. Granted I could go somewhere else and be in and out in a jiffy but that's not who I want to trust with my eyes. I've had 8 different pairs of glasses with no problems. The cool machine that prevents me from getting dilated is worth the little extra money. I was gone from my office 1 hour (including a short drive.) Bottom line: If you're just looking to get a pair of glasses this might not be the shop for you. If you are looking to develop a relationship with a care provider and want to reserve a little extra time to do that, then this is your guy. read more

I am a somewhat new patient to Dr Moore's office. On my second visit, I had some concerns about the changes in my left eye. Sara Beaver was very thorough in my exam and explained the cause of my issue, floaters. The office provides an option to have photos of the inside of the eye which is very educational. I was very pleased with Sara's professionalism and her taking the time to explain all that I needed to know, especially with my family's history. The staff is courteous and prompt. read more

Although, she and I have not been thru as much, I think she is great as well. She is very thorough with the exam and explains everything clearly. So the story goes....I use to work in Charlotte...like 5 years ago...and there was this eye doctor who fitted me for glasses and had a lot of great brands to choose from as well as just great eye side manner...I mean there weren't any beds like regular doctors you know *grin*. And I moved away to the great white north..... Then fast forward to the present...here and now....and I've moved back to Charlotte I think, hey...I'll go back to that great eye doc......but when I did I got fitted with lenses that were not what I wanted or asked for and they changed them back...but didn't refund for their mistake...the next year I got fitted for another set of lenses and this time they made the prescription so powerful I had to have my computer screen about 12 inches from my face to get it in focus??? Not to mention the little session in the examination room with Dr. Moore as he told me how Obama had screwed up the Health care system, blah...blah..blah....if I wanted that kind of political commentary I know of 1 one evil news station and plenty of people who can do the same kind of complaining....when I go to the eye doctor I want to talk about my eyes.....not how his retirement fortune will loose money because of the Government.... I think I'll shop around with my health care dollars in 2011...and Dr. Moore won't be on the list....and his retirement fortune won't be impacted by Obama...but rather me *wink*. read more

Made an appointment with Dr. Moore and when I showed up for my appointment it had been switched to Dr. Beaver without notification. I believe because she was new and needed clients. Dr. Beaver was excellent, but you need to ask permission before making changes. Blood pressure reading was input in my chart before taking my blood pressure. Unethical? Spent $1250 on a new pair of glasses and they didn't fit. Had to start the process all over again. Mistakes happen, I get it, but three strikes and your out. read more

Love the doctor, he spends more time with patients than any other and that explains the wait time too.. they have many brands which you could check while you are waiting for the doctor and pick the one u like the most and after you see the doctor you can get out of there while they get glasses and your prescription synced up. Terrible service and experience!!!! This place was the most unprofessional, unkind, and irresponsible eye center I have ever gone to. First, the doctor messed up my perscription; next, the nurse messed up my contact dimensions. Hence I had to use up an extra visit (insurance limits to 2 per yr) on another contact check up elsewhere. Most importantly, when I had a small emergency which only required the doctor to flash a flashlight in my eye to see if some kind of residue is there, they told me to pay for a full office visit. Way to care about the patient, even thought they mssed up previously which required me to pay more than necessary! I kept telling myself not to go there after evey negative experience, but kept returning because of location convenience (very close to my work). I think today topped my chart. I am very disappointed and upset right now. Plus the staff, especially one blond lady who seems to be in charge, is the most rude/bitter person you will ever meet. I always tend to see the glass half full, not empty. In fact, I have never written a negative review about any company/experience. But today, I think I have had enough with this place. Dr. Moore and Dr. Beaver were recommended to me by a friend when I was looking for an Optometrist in the Charlotte area. I called to schedule an appointment and they were able to get me in the next day! :) Just a heads up, if you aren't familiar with the area finding the office may be a tad confusing but park in the Bank of America parking garage. Your parking will be validated. The office was very clean and the staff professional, helpful, and nice. I loved Dr. Beaver. She's very thorough, sweet, and is great with explanations and speaking with you regarding your concerns. The opticians are great as well. Dr. Moore is an outstanding eye doctor. I've been seeing him for 5 years and have always had a great experience. I love that he offers "eye photos" instead of typical dilation (takes a long time and is uncomfortable), during the annual exam. They can take HD pictures of your eyes without any of the uncomfortable dilation. The location is hard to beat for uptown professionals!!! read more

Best eye doctor experience I had so far, would highly recommend Dr. Sara F. Beaver. Very friendly and easy language to understand her explanations. The frame selections not my favorite, also did not get any offer like other stores do. I took my prescription to another store and got even sunglasses for about $100 more. I will never go back to this place for eye care again. I have gone here for two annual eye exams. My first year (2018) I was very impressed by Dr. Moore and his staff. I received an excellent and informative eye examination and was fitted for great contact lenses that did not irritate my eyes as past contact lenses. However, my most recent eye exam, Dr. Moore's daughter was not impressive. I asked several questions and she gave me very school book and long/rehearsed answers that did not address my question regarding eye irritability and potential allergies. She gave me drug store eye drops and never mentioned a potential follow up if my eye continued to be dry. She only offered a set of 2 day contacts to see if my eyes changed (which made no difference considering the irritability that was caused at that exam). It has been 4 months and my eyes HAVE NEVER BEEN THE SAME since that eye exam. My eyes have been red, irritable, and intolerable of any contacts. Even the expensive contacts they generously gave me 2 days to try. I still went to order a year worth of contacts to get my rebate and they only gave me 2 days of contacts again until my order came in. From my previous year, the contact lenses specialist has left, incompetent associates have joined, and inconsiderate staff members have joined. I will never come back again. read more

I work in Uptown Charlotte and woke up one morning with some severe eye pain. My only real option was to ride into the city with a friend from work and walk over to this office to schedule a last minute appointment. They got me in within about 30-40 minutes, which for last minute I dont think is bad. I did find the reception staff to be rude/dismissive and not overly helpful. It really seemed like I was inconveniencing them. The Dr. and his assitants who did my exam I felt were polite and professional and they got me taken care of. However, that was the only positive experience here. As mentioned by others, you can find more affordable eye care elsewhere, but my issue lies with price vs. what you receive. As mentioned, if you pay a premium for a visit, staff should not be rude or short, espeically when someone is in visible pain and doing what they can to actually complete all of the required paperwork. The real rub though came about 8 months after my visit when I received an invoice in the mail from them with no explanation whatsoever, but it simply said I owed them money. I went in to the office the next day to question it, at which time the unhelpful staff up front once again had no idea and said someone would call me back. About 7 hours later I received a call from the accounting person in the office who informed me that due to a clerical error on my visit (once again 8 months ago), I was charged incorrectly and now owed them this extra amount. I asked for clarification on the error to make sure it was not related to a procedure they provided and she confirmed it was not. They had simply charged me as a returning patient rate instead of a new patient. I realize that their are costs invloved with a new patient file, however when it is your business who made the error, it is not good practice to send an invoice out demanding payment (and showing it post due over 120 days) with no explanation of the charges. Also, most businesses (my own included) recognize that when an error is made, it is typically absorbed by the business. Had they realized the error while I was in the office, or even during the week or the following at my follow up visit, that would be one thing, but to go over half a year and then drop that on someone, I feel is poor business practice. So, in summary, due to high prices, poor customer service and what I find to be shoddy business practice I would strongly reccomend avoiding this office. read more

Just had my second annual eye exam apt with Dr. Sara Beaver. She is a very upbeat person and is very helpful answering questions, etc. Would highly recommend. Edited down from 5 stars: The Dr visits are fine, but the bookkeeping is a mess. I walked out of my annual eye exam in 2015 paid in full, evidenced by my receipt. After my 2016 eye exam, I was told I had a small balance on my account? Huh? Apparently, the person put in the wrong insurance discount on my account in 2015 and they substituted a smaller discount after a I left, causing a balance. I was never contacted at all in 2015 of any issues. In 2016, they charged me for not only the regular annual exam fee, but the 2015 balance I knew nothing about. Now, my flex spending account won't pay the small balance because the service date of that expense was in 2015 but the expense was in 2016!! Now I have to pay the flex spending account out of my own pocket when I could have funded it with that account!!!! What a pain in the neck and it's not my fault. They should have just eaten the small balance since it was their fault. Looking for another Dr. read more
