First impression was excellent. Now that I have what I consider somewhat of an emergency, I'm not hearing back. I called and had trouble getting to the right person. ( called twice) Finally I was referred to triage and she recommended I be seen. Said she would call me back to see when they could fit me in. Long story short, still haven't heard back and it has been hours. Meanwhile...I could have gone somewhere else! That's very rude not to call someone back when you said you would and especially knowing how anxious the patient is because she can't see out of one eye! She could have at least let me know one way or the other. So however impressed I was by the doctor, the support staff needs to be a little more considerate. read more

AWFUL!!!!!! I moved to Charlotte less than a year ago. Found Spectrum Eye Care via Google. It was well rated so I booked an appointment. I had Lasik many years ago and have had excellent eye care before moving, so I'm very used to the ins and outs of eye care. Dr. Lockhart gave the least thorough eye exam I've ever had, and my eye is every bit as red and irritated as before the visit. He spent very little time actually looking at my eye, and wasn't sure what the issue was before I left and actually admitted that he wasn't sure what was wrong with my eye. Since my eye feels and looks worse than before my office visit, he may have actually done further damage to my eye. I sent Spectrum an email describing my current condition and asking for a refund. They haven't responded. The eye drops prescription was not covered by my insurance, but the coupon the office gave me lowered the cost to $80, which is still very expensive for a tiny bottle. I would NOT recommend this business and would NEVER visit again. read more

Am pretty nervous about not writing a five star review as they have nothing but five star reviews. I had a pretty good experience with them, both in selecting them as my provider even though they were less convenient and in my actual appointment. It's hard to call this as good as it gets for two reasons. One reason, as someone else mentioned, is that the contact fitting exam fee is ridiculous--and even though theirs is much more reasonable, what you get is one more glance at your eyes with a bright light. The other is the glasses. There are a lot of stylish frame options available. None of them fit me or my partner. Neither ethnic chick nor white dude. We actually set aside money this year to get new frames, so now we have to figure that out somehow outside of this office. Will be an adventure in awkward shopping. That's the extent of my complaining. On to the good stuff. I had a bad experience with another optometrist office located smack dab in the center of town. Like, walked-out-of-the-office bad. But I still really needed contacts. So I called around to the other optometrist offices Uptown. Well, the top 3 offices on Yelp, anyway. I received a call back the next day (and nothing from the other two offices at any point, by-the-by...) and after a tiny bit of phone tag got to speak with a fabulous staff member who was clear and invested in our conversation and helpful and just a pleasure to speak with. I made essentially side-by-side appointments for myself and partner for less than a week later at 7:45a so that we would both be done and at work before the whistle blows. When we arrived, the security gate was down and there was a sign outside the store. I almost thought it was going to say, Under Renovation, Go Away! Nope. It said we open promptly at 7:45a. Once I was close enough to read the sign, I could also see that there were two staff members working diligently on computers in the dark. Prepping for the day, presumably. I window shopped at the neighbors in Overstreet Mall and, surprise: the security gate went up at 7:41a. We filled out a super brief form, sat down, and pretty much immediately stood up to be led to our respective rooms. My person (assistant???) was calm and efficient. My partner's person was apparently perky and morning-happy. Glad the pairing went the way it did as I would not have handled perky well at 7:45a. The process was good--answer questions and gather history, get checked out on the latest and greatest machinery, double check my color perception and peripheral sensitivity and range of movement, then the doctor came in. She did the specific lens and letter checks to confirm that my vision hadn't changed one bit, double checked my contacts that matched the prescription and that I've been wearing for years do indeed fit, and left. The presumably perky person came in to help me close out, apologized that given my prescription, they didn't have anything in stock to tide me over until my new contacts arrived (not even remotely surprising but also amusing as this is supposed to be a core component of what is covered under the contact fitting fee), ordered contacts that I would have to physically come in to pick up in five days (or they could send it to me but it would take a few extra days for them to process and ship from the office...), etc. Back out in the main office/store area, we looked at glasses (the cases are weird so you can't look at them without help but the "help" you get isn't very engaged or informative as to retail layout), and moved on. It was pretty painless, aside from the early hour which I specifically chose to not have to miss work. My new contacts did arrive before I ran out. There wasn't anything done to check that my new lenses fit (which is also something supposedly covered under the contact fitting fee which is higher for new patients for this reason) and I walked in and walked out in just about the time it took to get the boxes from the back. The person at the front tried to help me opt out of getting a gazillion text messages (I texted STOP and stop and OptOut and STOPtoOptOut and everything else I could think of to make them stop but the kept coming!), but I suspect they didn't do it properly. We'll probably find out definitively in about a year. Am going to stick with them, as really there were just a few small things I didn't like, but I just can't call this 5 stars. read more

I had an eye exam here and purchased glasses over a year ago. I just went to another Optometrist to have an exam and buy another pair of glasses. I was shocked that my glasses that I just bought were 60% cheaper than those at Spectrum. I only buy the Oakley brand and just thought that they were expensive. That is quite a mark up and I`m very disappointed that I was charged such a high amount for the same glasses. I would recommend that you shop around. I will not be back to Spectrum. read more

Everyone at SEC was incredibly friendly. You are greeted as soon as you enter and made to feel like a priority throughout the visit. The staff was attentive and very understanding of my needs. Dr. Lockhart is fantastic. They are located in the over street mall on the third floor of the BB&T building in Uptown. From the ground level, take the set of elevators that service the third floor. Head to the right out of the elevator lobby and they are just a few steps down on the righthand side. Parking is also validated. They accept most vision insurance plans. I opted to purchase frames that I preselected elsewhere and bring them back to have my lens prescription filled. A very smooth process. Scheduling my appointment was easy. As a new customer, I called on a Wednesday and had an appointment for that Friday morning. I highly recommend SEC to anyone, especially those living or working in the Uptown area. It's easy to get in and out of and they have options aside from dilation in the event you need to return to work. read more

I had been waiting for 6 weeks for my lenses to get back from SEC's lab and was getting irate as I need them urgently. SEC gave me the opportunity to select any pair of frames they stocked and a lens of my choice for NO CHARGE WHATSOEVER. They clearly understand what customer service is about and turned a bad situation into an total win for the customer. Great job, I will be back. read more

Much like the others that have reivewed this location and business I agree regarding their superb customer care and overall handling of my appointment. There was no wait regarding my eye exam. I was brought back within 5 minutes and once into the room it might have been 1-2 minutes before the optometrist showed up to begin my glasses and contact fitting exam. Once out of the room and back into the actual showroom I was greeted by the nice young lady out front (I think her name was Jackie). She was more than helpful by way of using her knowledge of my healthcare eye plan to give me my best option regarding the purchases I wanted to make that day. I was looking for an eye doctor for my daughter and was recommended this place. It was in our network so we decided to give it a try. I called on a Tuesday and she had an appointment for that Thursday. I had to fill out some paperwork online ahead of the appointment which helped speed up our time there. When we entered everyone was super friendly and helpful. We got checked in right away then probably only sat down for probably 5 minutes before we were sent back to a room. My daughter chose to get her eyes scanned instead of dilated. She said it was a little tricky but I could hear the technician being very patient with her. The doctor came in and was very pleasant and friendly. I liked that he talked to my daughter and not just me. It was quick but didn't feel rushed. When we told him we wanted to see about contacts he never tried to sell us anything or add glasses as well. My daughter told him she doesn't wear her glasses bc they hurt her nose and he said bring them in when we come back and he will adjust them. I'm so glad we decided to follow the recommendations and come here. We will definitely stay a patient here. read more

First the positive...The doc and all of the staff I encountered at the Uptown location are very nice and try very hard to provide a good experience and service. Now for the negative...I have been trying to get prescription sunglasses from them for about a month and a half. These sunglasses included progressive lenses. The first time I got them back, the progressive was off badly. I couldn't read out of the left eye. They sent off for new lenses to put in them. After a couple of weeks, they were in. The lenses weren't sized appropriately and they couldn't get them in all the way without bending the frame. It wasn't until I wore them out and the first person that saw me said it looks like the lens is falling out, that I knew something was wrong. I took them back and they tried working on them to get the lenses in correctly. At this point, I was worried about the frames because they seemed to be bent around the screw. They took the lenses out and it looked OK and didn't seem to be damaged. They then said they would send these back to the lab and put a rush on it because I have had so many problems. Two weeks later, I still do not have glasses. They called me today to tell me that the glasses came in last week, but still weren't right and they had to send them back to the lab. They said they should be in some time this week. At this point, even if they are perfect, the damage has been done. This is the most I have ever paid for glasses and this is the worst experience I have ever had with a pair of glasses. Actually, there isn't even a close second. The only reason I give 2 stars is because they are friendly and appear to be trying. However, that is the last pair of glasses I get there. read more

I decided to try them out and the reason they're so highly recommended was made clear! Their staff was very friendly, professional, fun, cheerful, and eager to help me. I love Dr. W (his name is long and confusing to spell... let alone say) and this location (downtown in the BBandT building next to the Caribou- bonus!). He is very patient and thorough and just a really nice guy. His staff was super helpful in helping me pick out glasses and training me on how to put in and remove contacts (which was awful but not their fault). They also filed everything with my insurance company, which is great. I also love that they call and email to remind of upcoming appointments. I really appreciate this service. They also have a location on Colony Rd., near the Lodge. I am a person who hates going to any type of doctor. They really make this a nice experience. read more

I hadn't been to the eye doctor in quite some time, so after researching various places in the area and price comparing, I chose Spectrum Eye Care. I'm so happy that I did! Their uptown location is conveniently located in the BB&T building and appointment times start as early as 745a. An eye exam (without insurance) is $135 and they accept HSA and FSA. I was late (40 min) to my appointment because I thought it was at a later time. Initially they were going to make me reschedule which I totally understand, but was still a little upset because I have a lot going on right now. Dr.Lockhart walked out and asked me if no other time this week worked for me and I told him no. He then tells me that he will still see me. It was the end of the day and I was his last appointment. He stayed later just so I could be seen and his staff was extremely friendly. I never felt rushed even though I knew they were closing. I ended up finding a great pair of glasses thanks to two of the ladies at the front who helped me decide which one looked better. I was able to go home with contacts and after going so long without them it was much appreciated. They were quick, efficient, followed all safety precautions, and I left happy! read more

I got an eye exam here because it is close to where I work downtown and they have appointments starting at 7:30 am so I could get in before work. All the staff were friendly, efficient, and professional. I showed up and 7:30am and they were ready for me, no waiting. I saw Dr. Price and she did an very good job. I wear contacts and have had to wear reading glasses in addition. I discussed this with her and she gave me a couple of options. She seemed to be very knowledgeable and professional. The only negative with them and all optometrists is they charge and additional fee ($68) for a contact fitting exam. I have been wearing contacts for 30 years and find this a rip off junk fee. But, every place I've been does it. I was out the door by 8 am. If you need a good optometrist then check them out. read more

A month ago I had a some major eye issues. After freaking out a little, I saw that Spectrum Eye Care was just down the street. The staff is amazingly sweet and caring, while being very professional. Due to my eye injury I had to visit several times a week for 2-3 weeks and even though it appeared that they moved some staff around from other Spectrum locations, they all were so professional. Dr. Hackley is a godsend. Not only did she put my fears to rest, but got me on the right medications to help solve my issues. She really spent a lot of time with me to make sure I completely understood what was going on and what to expect. I can't speak highly enough about Spectrum Eye Care. My contact lenses prescription changed (a bit drastically) and Dr. Price Osborne made sure I had a pair of contacts to leave in that were the proper prescription, although not my normal brand, and even ordered me another pair in my normal brand for me to pick up in a week. Moved here from out of state and am used to waiting up to an hour after checking in at the receptionist's desk so I planned to read emails/newspaper on my phone while I waited the typical 45-60 min wait. Not here. As soon as I asked in a lovely lady named Adalie took car of me and got me back in the exam room. I had to wait about 10 min to see Dr. Osborne and that's only because I had to wait for my eyes to dilate! She is an excellent and wonderful Doctor. Her staff is incredible.
