*NOTE* This review is specifically for Coffeehouse at Caroline This is my second day staying at Aloft Downtown and I found it so convenient to have a coffee shop downstairs. The barista was super friendly and I did not have to wait for my order at all. I ordered a Mexican iced coffee and a blueberry muffin. The muffin was exactly what I was hoping for, but the coffee was incredibly weak. Employees were wearing their masks and all social distancing rules were being enforced. Even though the coffee was a slight letdown I still enjoyed sitting by the bar area while I edited some photos. I would come back for the atmosphere alone. read more

I'll start off with the food is really good. That is if you get it.... My biggest complaint is the service. We arrived at 940 am. Food came at 1110. Waiter would seriously disappear, never checked in for a follow up drink or refill. Even when asked for the check he was gone for 20 min and I had to track him down to get my credit card back. When I lived in Chicago, I was obsessed with Beatrix as they have very good, heathy options and their coffee bar always had great coffee and pastry selections, so imagine my surprise when I entered Caroline and noticed the similarity. After speaking with the manager, I was informed that Caroline is a sister property of Beatrix although they do not participate in the LEYE program and while there are a few differences, mainly the smaller pastry bar, Caroline is still just as good. I went for breakfast and enjoyed the sweet corn cake benedict and the marshmallow latte and both were delicious. Aaron was my waiter and he was great. I will definitely be back! read more

The food tasted alright, but our experience was sadly disappointing. Our server neglected to take up our emptied appetizer plate for the duration of our stay, and only stopped by to refill our waters once during the meal and once as I was asking for the check. The valet parking only being discounted $10 when plenty of other hotels around downtown Austin do a validated 2 hour park was disappointing to learn. On top of that, we were directed by the valet to go back inside and up to the second floor if we wanted to pay with card. And the worst part is, despite noting my reservation was for our anniversary, it was not acknowledged throughout our visit. read more

Caroline really blew me away with their space and offerings though! Things you need to know: * Located inside Aloft hotel but it doesn't feel like a "hotel restaurant" at all * There's a quick grab-and-go section with coffee and pastries for all of us poor people who can't afford the dine-in section (that pink donut was amazing) * The dine-in section has a decent brunch menu; would have given this place the full 5 stars if the entrees weren't so pricey; it's definitely downtown pricing. * Don't forget to look for the stairs that lead you to the rooftop patio ("Upstairs at Caroline")...sweet spot with TVs, bar, plenty of seating, bar snacks, and bar games. I'm a fan of Caroline! They have a good selection of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It can get VERY loud and VERY crowded inside when it's busy (so loud that you can't hear the people you're with!) so I'd recommend sitting outside during peak hours if you can. The food is a little expensive for the amount and quality, and a little bit hit or miss, but it's overall a quality spot. The roasted chicken sandwich is phenomenal, and the chicken schnitzel is lovely. However, I've never been too impressed by their salads. In all, this is a great place to try if you're staying in the northern part of downtown. It's perfect for friend groups, a date spot, family meal, or professional lunch. read more

Very average experience. The salmon filet seemed to be previously frozen and very overcooked. Ordered a medium rare steak and it came out medium. We went there for thanksgiving dinner, the drinks and appetizers were amazing! PRO TIP: you can get a free corn dip from checking in through Yelp ;) We also had the deviled eggs. The thanksgiving specials was subpar, I wish I would of ordered from the regular menu because I've heard great things about the food. 4.5 Stars. My wife and I stayed at the Aloft for 3 nights recently, and having breakfast in the morning at Caroline was the highlight of our stay! Everything we had to eat was so good, the service was spot on every time, and the ambiance was lovely. My wife enjoyed the pancakes one day, the eggs your way another day, and the spinach and feta egg white omelette the next. I tried the breakfast tacos, the chicken and waffles, and the egg white omelette. Oh, and the breakfast potatoes are the bomb. All dishes were top notch, and we would order them all again. Overall, I can't recommend Caroline highly enough. The prices are great for what you receive, the servers are super friendly, and the food is really good. Getting there: Located near 6th street in DT Austin, inside the Aloft hotel. There is street parking, but it might be best just to Lyft or Uber here. Experience: We made a reservation a few days in advanced, which was nice because we were able to be seated right away. I ordered the wings and shared some food with my friends, but everything was immaculate. Our waitress was awesome. We were a big group and she took care of everything we needed in a timely manner. I would recommend this restaurant esp if traveling out of town. Everything was tasty and the shoestring fries are very yummy. We also had a few drinks here - two Bloody Mary's and a margarita - which were also great. If I could rate this place -5, I would!! The 4.5 stars is 100% overrated and underserved!! We ordered fried chicken and waffles amongst the other items as well as several pastries and coffee. Not only did the food came out forever long, but the quality of the food was absolutely intolerable. The fried chicken was dry and tough. It tasted like chicken from a week ago. The waffle tasted like mix from some low end package mix. The pastries were also dry as heck. We ordered the morning buns, almond croissants, and blueberry muffins. All of them were dry and tough. They tasted like pastries that have been left out in the air for several days!!!! Absolutely terrible!! The coffee was also tasteless! We ordered some iced coffee and honey brown sugar latte. The latte had zero honey nor brown sugar taste! What a disappointment. What was worse was that when we informed the server about how dissatisfied we were regarding the pastries, he replied "COOL" and left! ... are you serious? Did this place even train their server on how to interact with customers? Then I went to the pastry department and mentioned about the food being bad, and was told by them that "sorry, we don't handle food, you can go to the food manager!" Are you kidding?? We drove an hour to enjoy a bunch in Austin, and all we got was 100% dissatisfaction all the way around. Absolutely horrible experience. Will NEVER be back here again! To the manager, please quality control your food and drinks, and work with your server to teach them how to be better servers!! The other customers don't need to suffer what I experienced. read more

I really wanted to like the food and my experience here. I cannot recommend either. I was staying at adjoining hotel. I was seated at the bar area and waited quite some time before even getting anyone to take my drink order. I made a request to have pasta substituted in a dish and was told that was not an option.
