You MUST go to this place!! When we moved here, I wanted to go because my name is Caroline of course, but I quickly fell in love with all that they had to offer at different times during the day and it's become my favorite spot to take out-of-towners aside from BBQ and Tex-Mex. Great coffee, great lunch food, great happy hour, and I love Upstairs at Caroline too, so it's great for any time of day. I had lunch there yesterday and today, actually, and got coffee there earlier in the week! I come here almost too often but it's perfect so I can try lots of different things. The sweet corn dip and shishito pepper are my favorite appetizers. I love the Caroline salad if you're going for something light, and the Green Goddess salad is a close second. Their enchiladas are amazing and I'd recommend splitting them if you aren't super hungry since the portion size is large. For happy hour, you won't regret the chips and queso! The Hipsterjito drink is great too and you can get pitchers which is great for a medium-sized group. In terms of coffee, all of their specials are great. The Sassy Cowgirl and the Mexican Iced Coffee are my faves for a sweet cold drink. Chocolate pastries are amazing, and the rest of the pastries that I haven't tried yet are so pretty - I can't wait to try some more!! My favorite lunch time waiters are Aaron and Monte! I've had each of them a few times (have I mentioned I come here often?) and they're great! Ask for them if you can. They're super sweet and had great recommendations. I even had a bee get into my latte on the patio once (which was almost finished anyways so I didn't really care) and Aaron brought me an entirely new one. Seriously... you should go here! Our first day in Austin, and we stopped in here for brunch. It was very close to our hotel in downtown Austin, and there was no wait. The atmosphere is super cute and trendy. The decor is beautiful, there is a coffee shop attached and a bar upstairs. The service is extremely friendly and attentive, and there was plenty of seating both inside and out on the patio. It's a great spot for a larger group, a girls' brunch, celebration, etc. Caroline has a great menu. There was variety of unique dishes, but not an overwhelming number of choices. Tons of options for coffee... matcha, golden milk, bulletproof... you name it! We had the chicken & waffles and the sweet corn cake benedict. The chicken and waffles was a little dry, but the corn cake benedict was very good. The jalapeno cheddar corn cakes were slightly crisp on the outside, but soft on the inside. It was topped with avocado and a tomato corn salsa. We also had the Austin breakfast tea, and the LOCA juice (lemon, orange, carrot, apple). The tea was served in a teapot, which was a nice touch. They're was only one other couple at the bar so the bartender was not busy at all but he never greeted us or said anything. We went here for restaurant week and were impressed by both the service and the meal options. For $35 we were able to get an order of shishito peppers (good quantity; well done), spaghetti bolognese with a mushroom and meat sauce combo (decent portion, though a little small), and an individual chocolate cake for desert. They have outdoor tables available as well, with a moderately high plant barrier that helps protect from some of the general noise of traffic and people on Congress Ave., though I would not recommend sitting there if you get easily distracted by movement/people watching. Being a block from the Paramount Theatre means a lot of foot traffic coming and going at 7 PM on a Saturday night. While I'm not much of a drinker, I did hear positive reviews of their cocktail choices from those I dined with. All of these items come together to make it a great choice for a pre-theatre meal. While I would not go out of my way to deal with downtown parking just to eat here again (my definition of 5 stars), it is definitely a restaurant I would add to my repertoire if in the area, making it a solid four star choice for downtown eating. read more

Probably the best service I've had on austin since moving here a year & a half ago. Tyler was awesome & there's such a clear culture of teamwork at this restaurant, when he was busy there was always another person around to check on us. The food was also delicious & came out super quickly, huge fan of the tiny tuna tacos! All in all, I wish I'd discovered this place sooner. Ambiance was great! Literally not one complaint. A perfectly tasty salad and I liked how the lemon dressing gave a nice tang. Also tried the warm chocolate cake and blueberry cobbler - an absolutely yummy way to end a meal. For the price, I think the portion sizes and taste were appropriate. Service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is sophisticated but not overly fancy. We were staying at the Aloft, and stopped into Caroline almost every day of our trip. Such a cute place and great concept! It's not super common to find a place that's coffee shop by day, restaurant all the time, and lounge/bar by night, but Caroline does it very well. Coffees were good, and we tried a couple of pastries that were delicious (chocolate croissant and some sort of raspberry danish). We saw breakfast tacos each morning but unfortunately never got the opportunity to try them. We had happy hour at the bar twice, and they have some great options! The burrata & tomato dish, and the one with shishito peppers in particular were delicious. Also some great wine specials! It's unusual for a hotel bar to pay particular attention to how they craft their cocktails, but special care was taken when mixing drinks, and we were rather impressed with our Old Fashioned and the mazcal drink. There is also an "Upstairs at Caroline" bar that has a totally different vibe; Caroline itself is really mellow and chill. Excellent date spot. Connected to the Element/Aloft hotel, and located right on the corner of 7th street and Congress, Caroline has the perfect location in Austin. I decided to venture out of my hotel room from upstairs for lunch at Caroline and I really enjoyed the easy commute! I had the cauliflower "chorizo" tacos which was a great vegetarian option! The menu had several light and refreshing options to choose from. I then went back to The Coffeehouse at Caroline for that afternoon pick-me-up, and ordered a dirty chai latte with oat milk. It was delicious however the drink came to over $8! Definitely can't splurge on that too often. The pastry case looked extremely appetizing, and I loved that they had many alternative milks to choose from.
