Darling little coffee shop in historic Grass Valley area. They freshly ground all their coffee and it smells heavenly when you walk through the door. All the alternatives for milk and nice baked goods assortment. Great service!

My husband and I had very good pumpkin spice and pecan praline lattes here before walking Grass Valley's super cute down town. The baristas were friendly and helpful. The shop has a lot to look at, and it was neat to see all the different bulk coffee and tea they have available to purchase.

My Hubby & I made a quick stop at Carolines as we were passing through on our way to the airport. The coffee was really good & the service was also. One thing I really appreciated was they had a cup of fresh berries available to grab & go! I eat berries, a minimum of five days a week with Greek yogurt, walnuts, and honey drizzle. Seeing as we were traveling and needed to make our stop quick, being able to just grab a little cup of berries worked absolutely perfect for me! Stop in and check it out!

The coffee here is definitely 5 stars! During our stay in Grass Valley we visited Carolines on three occasions. We tried several beverages, finding their Brown Sugar Oat Latte special to be our favorite. The drink selections are good and the quality of their coffee is spot on. Their employees.....now that is a different story. In all three of our visits, we experienced young ladies who were not at all welcoming, were impatient with our couple of questions, and none of them seemed to want to be there. During our last visit we had one of the employees yell across the shop at us that we had picked up the wrong drinks. They had called our name and there were only two drinks to pick up, so we took them. There weren't any names on the cups, and they were the right color for what we ordered, so there was no way for us to know otherwise. Thankfully, we hadn't had any yet, so there wasn't any contamination (although, technically, they probably should have remade them for the correct customer). That experience was so off-putting that we didn't go back during the rest of our stay.

Great place to grab a coffee and a smile. LOCATION & DECOR: Right on the corner of 128 South Auburn Street in downtown Grass Valley, Caroline's Coffee Roasters is a quaint lil' spot with that local industrial coffee shop vibe. You've got burlap sacks on display, plenty of seating to soak in the ambience, and two entrances for easy flow. Outside, there's a couple of street-side tables where you can sip your drink and watch the world go by. FOOD & DRINK: Caramel Latte (with Oat Milk): My go-to. Smooth, creamy, and hits the spot every single time. Apple Fritters: If you can get your hands on one, you're in for a treat. They're hard to come by, though, so grab 'em when you see 'em. They've also got a small selection of baked goods, plus chilled drinks and juices in an open display case. It's not a huge spread, but it's solid. PRICE: For a quality drink and a bite, you're payin' what you'd expect at a local café. It's fair for what they're servin', but I wouldn't mind seein' a lil' more variety in the baked goods. SWAG/AMENITIES: Buy-at-the-counter setup for quick service Cozy indoor seating with plenty of room to chill Outdoor street-side tables for those sunny days Chilled display case for grab-and-go drinks A lil' window for baked goods--just wish they stocked up a bit more STAFF & EXPERIENCE: The crew here is friendly and super helpful. If they don't have what you're lookin' for (like those elusive apple fritters), they'll point you in the right direction for where to find it. That's the kinda care that keeps me comin' back.

Caroline's is a great place for coffee especially when you are coming to town. See my receipt. It is located on South Auburn Street in Grass Valley ( 2 blocks off highway 49). It has indoor and outside seating. You can park on the side street to get your coffee. They also have teas and a small selection of pastries and burritos along with stuffed croissants and bagels. I just got back into town and stopped in for a coffee. It smelled good inside and it's surprisingly bigger inside then I remember. Coffee was strong and energized me! Friendly employees with locals and tourists inside (probably due to hotel down the block). They open at 7am. Great job Carolines!

I was raised in Grass Valley and recently came back for a quick visit. Carolines wasn't there when I lived there but I wish it was. What a great shop. I loved the small town feel and the overall vibe which was very welcoming. You could tell there was good mixture of tourists and regulars. I'm a coffee creature of habit and order the same thing everywhere I go (iced oatmilk latte with agave shaken with extra ice) but don't let my repetition fool you. I'm actually fairly picky about the end result and Carolines did not disappoint. The barista was friendly and helpful. They didn't offer agave but replaced it with honey and was walking to shake it up for me. The wait wasn't long at all and I loved my experience from start to finish. Parking is close and they do offer indoor and outdoor seating. This is a very cool coffee shop that I would definitely visit again. PS - I was so ready for my coffee I forgot to take a picture and just started drinking it. :-)

Good news / Bad news situation here for me. Ordered a single shot of espresso. Smells great. Problem? There's about one & a half tablespoons in the paper cup! Really? Even in Italy that has the most powerful rocket fuel coffee ,you get at least 2.5 ounces. So one star demerit for the ridiculously small portion here at Caroline's. Now the great news. Several outstanding items: 1. The place smells Fantastic. Really rich, smooth coffee aroma. Not bitter, not burnt. I wish this smell came as a men's cologne, I'd wear it. 2. The variety of whole beans is extraordinary. A few dozen beans sourced from around the entire planet. You can choose from the region and most probably have it in a light or medium or dark roast. 3. Prices are fair for the quality and rarity of the whole beans. I got a pound of the Sulawesi light roast for $18.99. OMG it smells fantastic. I'm Jonesin' for another cup right now. I've visited coffee roaster shops both big and small throughout planet earth. Have had some amazing coffee. This place has world class beans. Humble shop. Looks and feels more like a warehouse storeroom than a retail coffee shop. No pastries or frippery. Nice folks at the counter. If you order a pure espresso and want a real jolt, get a triple. It'll be only about 3 ounces max. Or just order an Americano for a more sedate 5 ounce treat.

I got the special eggnog latte. Coffee was the perfect ratio of coffee to eggnog. My boyfriend got the special polar bear and he said his was delicious. Premium teas offered as well. Can't wait to go back!

I’ve seen outdoor tables at Caroline’s, but not noticed if there are heaters for the outdoor tables. Can someone inform me?

Hi Ken. We just got outdoor heaters, so as long as it’s not too windy, you should be good.

Very poor experience this morning. I had my dog with me - ordered latte and a berry croissant…read more Overpriced ($16!), but wanted to support a local business. All was going fine, and we were happily bopping to the music while my pastry was being heated, but my pup yelped at a clearly non-dog person and the manager (?) came out screaming at me "THAT DOG CANNOT BE IN HERE!!" I am happy to avoid businesses with anti-dog policies if they are posted (was not). And, by law, a business has to ask you if it's a service animal before asking you to leave. Regardless, I would have been happy to leave with my already purchased product, but the woman kept screaming while I was waiting for them to hand me my pastry. I was so embarrassed and angry with her attitude, I spilled my coffee on the sidewalk outside as I was trying to get away from her. There are service-oriented ways to address this type of situation - yelling at your customers is not one. Especially followed by a snide "have the day you deserve" as I was leaving. I will never return and will discourage others. Ftr, went to Flour Garden and after hearing the story, they gave me a discount on my replacement latte. The pastry sucked, by the way - overdone on the outside, claggy on the inside and no flavor.

Visited November 12th..see receipt…read more This cute little place is in the same shopping center as SPD in Grass Valley. It's has been opened for about a year. They had some assorted pasties and rolls along with some fresh sourdough bread rounds. They also have coffee. I decided to get something savory to go...linguisa wrapped in what looked like a croissant. It was so good...just enough for the ride! Its somewhat small inside but looked very clean! Next time I will get a coffee and maybe a cinnamon roll to go!
