Just arrived on Duval street and decided on Caroline's! And so happy we did!! The atmosphere with the outdoor bar and seating was cool, the service was excellent, and the FOOD!! Live chickens are walking about searching for food or an innocent diner to drop a morsel. The staff was friendly and easy going. The fish sandwich was very tasty, as was the Key lime pie. It's a very cute restaurant and I like its outdoors, but still shaded. I honestly can't remember the name of the item I got, but it was a pork bowl. Actually the worst service I've ever had a restaurant. My family of 5 went for a little lunch, we ordered our food. About 30 minutes later the waiter came back and said it would be a while because there was a big party ahead of us, but offered to bring the kids their food then so they didn't get cranky. Awesome! 20 mins later they brought the kids food. About 10 minutes after that, they brought out almost identical meals to the ones we ordered to the table behind us - they had arrived at the restaurant around the time they had offered to bring the kids their food. We immediately went back to find our server to see why they would get their food before us. They got VERY defensive and said that the 2 tables tickets were turned in within a minute of each other. Which is weird since we had ordered AT LEAST 30 minutes before the other table was sat. The server and manager continued to argue with us telling us we were okay mistaken about how long we had been there. Trust me, as a 7 month pregnant lady I was very aware of what time We got there and When I had ordered. So they argued. Then brought out the food finally. Said we had to take it because they had already made it. Gave us the bill with absolutely 0 apologies and 0 discount and then asked us to take a box to go. We didn't - I was starving after waiting for an hour for my food. They came up to us at least 2 more times to show us the ticket of when we ordered. We really enjoyed eating here. The blackened chicken was delicious but extremely spicy which I like. They were also able to make a very good vegetarian wrap for my husband which he really enjoyed. The staff was very nice and made sure at all times we had everything we needed. I gave this four out of five stars because it was 90° out and this is out in the open and I really would have preferred a little air conditioning. They also allowed people to feed the birds which kept swarming around me because of this. Came through somewhat by accident, but this place most definitely didn't disappoint. Their tuna filet salad was absolutely perfect and the sesame rub was a great addition. The wings were probably the biggest surprise- definitely wasn't expecting to have some of the best buffalo wings ever. Not only was the meat tender but their sauce was great. There are lots of spots on Duval street, but you're missing out if you don't take a lunch break here. Just try not to feed the baby chickens running around haha read more

Wow, the hogfish sandwich was heaven! Cooked the way fish should be, tender and moist. Amazing. The seared ahi tuna was great too, nice fat pieces, great sauce. Not spicy at all. Best fish sandwich ever! Nothing fancy about it: fried fish, lettuce, tomato, onion, and tarter sauce on a roll. A large filet, with a thin, light batter that nevertheless managed to remain crunchy, and assertively seasoned, salty and peppery. The tartar sauce was good, probably house-made, and a good balance for the hot sauce on the table which I added (unfortunately, only Tabasco). The filet was the perfect thickness: not too thick and not too thin; I'll guess 3/4". Cooked exactly to perfection: just to the point where it flakes easily but remains juicy and not dry. Good roll, fresh and on the soft side. I asked about the fish. It was something I had never heard of and cannot remember the name but was described as "grouper-like". The wife, who thought she didn't like grouper and is uneasy about undercooked fish, also loved it. So that's two votes for "best fish sandwich ever." French fries were about average. I cannot remember if cole slaw was included, so if it was, I'd have to guess it was average too. Drinks: margaritas of course. I had Key Lime. Fine, but nothing special. Standard liquors and certainly from a mix - not that there's anything wrong with that. I'd prefer a better glass though; not a disposable plastic tumbler. I'm certainly not expecting glassware in an outdoor patio but some kind of festive plasticware would be a nice touch. Key lime pie (which we tried at every opportunity while in the Keys): good but not outstanding. I liked its tangy-ness pronounced limey-ness and it was denser than some: more like a cheesecake than a mousse in texture. The setting was fun: outdoor patio on busy Duval street, shaded by umbrellas and tall trees. And an outdoor bar. So lots of activity to watch while we dined. Definitely worth a visit. read more

They saved the best for last. We just had our final dinner on Key West at Caroline's. Bruschetta starter was a delight. The Snapper was delicious. My husband had the mahi-mahi sandwich. It was good to the last bite. The vegetables were fresh, salad fresh, snapper and mahi fresh. Even the Cajun seasoning was a Chef's mix. They make the Key Lime Pie! It was wonderful to share. Dewey, the waiter was warm, knowledgeable about Key West, and he took good care of us. The owner was a team player checking on tables and picking up dishes, if needed. This is an amazing please to eat and grab a bite. We came in for lunch today and the wait staff was so nice I knew I had to leave a review. The service was great and the food came at us fast and tasted GREAT. We were dining with out 8month old and I believe the manager maybe owner not sure came and asked us how we were doing then offered some buttered pasta for him! That was so nice and of course my 8montb old who loves food chowed down. The place is kept clean and gets you out of the hot summer eat with large umbrellas, fans, and misters to help you enjoy your meal. It is a outdoor restaurant but you would never know your outside with all the fans and misters they have running, it was 90+ with the humidity the day we went and it felt like we were in A/C. We ordered a Cuban sandwich, shrimp quesadilla, conch fritters and fried mahi. Everything was wonderful and the drinks are good too. Our drinks of choice in key west were mojito's. The staff at Caroline's were great too, they just want everyone to have a good meal and have fun. read more

Nice restaurant located on Duval street where all the action, stores and over crowded tourists hang. This place was cute and had a good variety on the menu and had some great Yelp reviews. Was here with some friend and there kids and the outside atmosphere along with the picnic tables seemed perfect. Our waitress Amy was pleasant and let us know of some other great restaurants that served oysters since they didn't have any. We ordered conch fritters as the appetizer and although they had good flavor I felt they went a little to easy on the conch so it was mostly veggies and dough. My friend and I both ordered the famous fried chicken sandwich and both had the same impressions, to fried and lacking flavor, although the lettuce, tomato and tartar sauce were good. My friends husband and son both had the jambalaya and that was really good, my love had the grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich which he devoured and said was really really good (he would definitely come back and order the same thing) but the best dish in my opinion was my friends daughters dish. She ordered the blackened chicken pasta and man I could've used my fingers to get every last taste of the sauce alone but that dish was on point. I had ordered the peel and eat shrimp (1/4 lb)....it was amazing! Fresh and seasoned. I highly recommend the absolute best fish sandwich I have ever....Caroline's famous fish sandwich. I had arrived at a busy time, the dinner rush. They told me the wait was 35 minutes but they ended up seating me within 10 minutes. Either way....the food is worth the wait. Love you Caroline, after all the walking around Duval, the drinking anda hot cocoa (that didn't go well on my tummy but it was a cold Winter day in the keys) we were on the hunt for a dinner spot and Yelp said you guys were A OK.... I loved our waitress and we were seated quickly, they had handy little heaters on the top of the picnic style table to keep us warm. Super casual spot & they have full bar if you just want to sit and have a few bites to eat, perfect spot. It's located on the quieter part of Duval, but there is still a lot of people walking around, good for people watching. I ate a wonderful Portabello burger with some tasty fries and a big pickle...yummy. The hubs had a fresh mahi mahi sandwich as well as my bro in law....they both loved it. The plates were huge and as much as I wanted to try to the key lime I couldn't...next time Caroline, keep up the good work and fresh food. Prices are also reasonable. Great spot for family dinner, not as rowdy as other dinner options in key west. Will be back! read more

I wish I could say that the Shrimp Club sandwich that was recommended to me was delicious. I cannot. Not because it wasn't but because I don't know. Let me tell you why.... After searching long and hard on our bikes for a Colombian place that we saw on yelp, we couldn't bring ourselves to eating there because we took a look at the menu and bolted. I am sorry, I am NOT paying $20 for a Bandeja Paisa that I can get anywhere in Miami for $8 - $12. Considering that meal is a very humble dish, shame on you for charging premium for it. Of course we ended up not liking one place or another, and ended up shopping in Fairville for about 1 1/2 hours, by then we were FAMISHED. We asked the guys that worked there what they would recommend and the Shrimp Club at Caroline's was top on their list. We headed over, looked at the menu and talked about the options because they all look pretty darn good. I wavered for a second and commented to my hubby that I had never tried a Po' Boy and they had a shrimp one. Ok so I was too hungry, I should have never even looked at it because if you know me, you know I am NO fan of ANYTHING breaded and fried. I told my hubby I wanted the Shrimp Club so if she came to take the order he could tell her since I was going to the ladies room. Our food comes, and I am ready to chew the table I was so hungry. The waitress places a Po'Boy in front of me. I look at my hubby and say "DUDE! Did you order the Po' Boy????" His look and apology should be enough for anyone to forgive but I was NOT a happy camper. He offered his sandwich in exchange, but he ordered a battered and fried fish sandwich. I ate in silence, and I did eat it because I was so hungry. Anyone can make that mistake, but you don't screw with mama's food when mama is that hungry. So. I had my first Po' Boy. For what it was, it was good although it could have used more spicy sauce. We visit Key West a lot. We have eaten here many times and enjoyed it. However this time I was very disappointed. I had to use one of my handiwipes to clean the table. The host did do it before we sat down with a single dry napkin. I didn't say anything just cleaned it myself. He must have been annoyed or amused I'm not sure which and said "Covid is over". The food came out plated very sloppy. The lettuce wraps were NOT wrapped. Just a pile of ingredients on top of bib lettuce. The worst part was not even the food the bathrooms were horrifying.
