Lovely breakfast spot. Outstanding omelets, hash browns and bacon. Served HOT. I ordered hot tea and was rewarded with a beautiful, large pot of hot water and nice selection of good teas. Shelby was our waitperson. Couldn't have asked for a more accommodating and cheerful guy. I've always liked Carol's location...quiet and off the beaten track. I hadn't been in to eat for a while [usually grab ice creams after a day at the lake]. But super glad I took out of town friends for breakfast. read more

Nestled near the lake between campgrounds the cafe is friendly and offers a wide variety of meals. Eggs Benedict were a 4 out of 5. The Hollandaise sauce was tangy and eggs were poached perfectly but the meal came out a little cold. The service was really slow and no doubt the cook was buried in work while the plate sat under the heat lamp. Worth trying again but food really needs to get to the table before it gets cold. read more

Wonderful outdoor patio with a view of the lake through the pines. Delicious food - a little pricey - to be expected considering the splendid remoteness of the Lake Almanor locale. A good time and meal marred by the deplorable condition of the one functioning restroom which was absolutely filthy, and an uncomfortable wait for the many waiting to get in. The restaurant was packed and a single filthy toilet is simply not sufficient. Access to the restroom is down hill from restaurant, virtually impossible for handicapped patrons. read more

Good food and great service in a lovely setting. Love their outdoor dining and have never had anything but great tasting food.

It might be a good place to eat but forget it if you have a disability or a service dog with you. Accommodation according to federal - NO WAY. If you have a service dog you have to find a place to put him or sit outside in 100 degree temperatures with no shade and dirty tables. By the way, even though they will serve you ice cream inside, you will have to get your order and take it outside yourself. There were empty tables inside and we repeatedly asked that we take one of those but they said that side was closed, even though there were 3 groups of people over there. Not only do I have to live with my disability but I have to put up with people like them treating me like I am worthless. read more

A treat for Lake Almanor visitors and locals! Like stepping back in time when you're greeted with a big friendly smile and you were still patient. It's all very good, homemade with big hearty servings. Breakfast & lunches served. Sunday night supper too. Great breakfasts with omelets, french toast, fluffy pancakes, lattes and for lunch they have french dip, generous salads, burgers, homemade soups, meatloaf, etc. I never leave without a piece of Carol's homemade pie! For small home town cooking and cafe, I give it 4 stars! After walking out of a place down the road from them, it sure was like coming home when we walked in the door. They were super busy but made the time to greet us with a smile! Everyone that worked there was happy! It is an old fashion cafe... and I hear from sun up to sun down every meal that comes out of the kitchen, Carol the owner makes her self! We had her famous home made Sunday night fried chicken, with home made biscuits, potatoes and gravy. It included an organic greens salad that came in a chilled bowl. Yep, a chilled bowl! That's the way my Mom use to serve salad too! The only thing I was disappointed with was I wish we had larger servings of her delicous Ratatouli. The table next to us had Prime Rib. I swear it just about covered the whole plate! We had almost a 3 hour drive back home so we got a piece of her Bosenberry pie to go. It was excellent too! The food is good, but the service is ridiculously slow. What's worse is that they don't get it. We waited 20 minutes before a waitress even acknowledged us. Right now, we are an hour and ten minutes in, and still no food. read more

Haven't been to Carols enough times but every time I go the food is amazing! Your best bet is to go when it's a little slower, it can get pretty busy. Amazing food and my favorite breakfast spot on lake almanor! Fried chicken is great too. Definitely recommend. read more

Been here many times before and just now decided to write a review, its a good homestyle type place! Never had any issues with the food, service is a B+ one time it was a little slow when they weren't very busy. But i will definitely be returning. It is quite convenient when you are out on the water. They have a courtesy dock about 100 yards from the restaurant. read more

My family and I walked into Carol's to get ice cream. An older woman came up to the counter and sighed because she had to help us. She then begrudgingly asked us what she could get us. We asked for a certain flavor of ice cream that was on the ice cream board, she looked behind her like she had never heard of the flavor, shook her head and said she didn't have that. We walked out. I have been coming to Lake Almanor for 25 years. No visit is complete without eating at Carols. The food is good and worth the money. My only complaint is they use to make the best home made onion rings. I don't know if they changed the recipe or the cook but this time they just didn't taste that good. read more

For several summers this was a great place, this summer we have eaten here twice and had terrible service twice. We couldn't even eat our breakfast it was so gross. We waited about 40 minuets for our food both times. I would not recommend coming here if you want edible food!! Stay away. read more

The food was pretty good but By the time we got our food it was cold. Our waitress was beyond rude and slow. Our order was called to her twice before she put down her beverage and got it 8 minutes later. Nikole rolled her eyes and huffed at us multiple times. I asked another waitress for a coffee refill and she was very sweet. Cold eggs are not very tasty. Our meal was $80 and she got a $2 tip that she didn't deserve. Last year when we came the food was great and the staff was amazing, we couldn't wait to come back. I'm very disappointed. Shame on you Nikole. read more

Exactly what you'd want in a diner! Breakfast is always good and generous! Dinners are big, hearty and homemade. They are well known for their fresh baked pies and you won't be disappointed! They host several types of pie depending on what's in season. Crust is light and flakey. You can take a whole pie to go! I'd skip the espresso or lattes because they definitely aren't on par with the rest of the joint - just go with a regular coffee. Service is very friendly and hospitable, just how you'd expect at a country diner:) Do check them out! Quaint old building. Closed during the long cold winters. A neighborhood gem! read more

Went for a long bike ride and ate here with a friend on July 16th and 18th. Both times breakfast was great, staff super friendly and helped our day to a good start. I will go again. Can be really random. On some days, service can be very slow, food overcooked or burnt, while on other days, the service is quick, employees are courteous and polite, and the food is great. It's kind of a hit or miss. But I would recommend them and hope that the experience is on the greater side. read more
