First of all, the food is excellent, top quality ingredients, wonderful recipes. Carolyn's hand on flavors, spicing, heat, pairings, presentation is amazing. Elevated, elegant version of home cooked Creole dishes she grew up with. I too had visited her Yelp page looking for a Black Woman-Owned catering business for my wife's birthday last March. Carolyn was booked for my date but was so kind and understanding about the fact that my wife was a cancer patient with a little time. She said she hoped we'd get to work together. I said I did too. I reached out to Carolyn a day after my wife's passing a month ago, to ask if she'd cater an upscale Black repast celebration for 70 at my home. Wow. She jumped in right away with "yes" and lots of concern and compassion; helped me focus on all the moving parts for such a big affair. She managed the furniture rentals, florist, bartending service plus the menu and her own excellent onsite staff of four folks who have been with her a long time. It showed. For example, since the repast started right after the celebration of life service I couldn't be at the house - nor could any of my family - the day of for setups and staging and getting all those last touches done like the bouquets, appetizer stations, the first of passed bites ready as folks arrived for the party - we had the outdoors and indoors open to the guests. One great inovation she and her team provided was to serve the main course and sides to the guests at their tables after each marked a small menu with what they wanted to try. Seconds were welcome. Carolyn made two site visits for initial planning and then fine tuning at no added cost. She was onsite day of along with her sous chef and three servers the entire afternoon and evening at no added cost. We had many email, text and a few phone calls over the few weeks before the repast. She is a consummate professional and detail oriented - like her past career in the legal profession. The event was a great, great success. People wouldn't leave. The bartender ran out. I ordered Carolyn's Creole Kitchen for a going-away work event and she made it SO easy. Communication was great and food was amazing! This is the menu that we created together. Delivery was on time and they took care and pride in setting up and communicating with us about the food items. They also gave us an extra little something (in Creole, they say "Lagniappe") of a tub of cookies, which was extremely kind. We can't thank Carolyn enough for the care + attention she put into catering our office lunch. She was super responsive and went out of her way to help me curate a menu that catered to our vegetarian and gluten free co-workers. You can taste the love Carolyn puts into her food and she was incredibly generous providing some peach cobbler and gluten free banana pudding as a sweet treat to top off our lunch. This office lunch was in celebration of carnaval + mardi gras and the food fit perfectly. Everyone raved about all of the dishes - the meatballs like Carolyn said were a huge hit! Carolyn catered for our department's year end celebration at Rigger's Loft in Richmond. She is such a pleasure to work with and was always very responsive to my questions, concerns, and asks for suggestions. We did many iterations to the menu and she was accommodating for our guests with dietary restrictions. She is very familiar with that venue, as she has done many other events there before. Carolyn and her staff arrived to the venue early to prep. Now let's get to the important stuff - the food! She was kind enough to make some of her delicious deviled eggs, veggie skewers and corn bread in advance and was so friendly and easy to work with. And the food! The cuisine is definitely made with love, the Screaming Mac n Cheese is the best I've had outside of my departed grandmother's home recipe! I normally get the Gumbo which is delicious and full of crab! She also makes these cornbread patties with spicy peppers that are to die for!
