Extremely positive experience getting new carpet in my townhouse. Had to add fresh carpet where it was ripped out due to a water leak, and replaced all existing carpet upstairs with them as well. One day to come out and take measurements, then scheduled a team to come out and place the carpet which was done in a standard days' work. My next door neighbor had Carpetland install hardwood floors throughout their house. Based upon their recommendation, I hired Carpetland to replace the carpet in my upstairs hallway and the stairs to the first floor and basement after my wife slipped and fell down the stairs on some old carpet. We replaced the carpet with the same hardwood that we have on the first floor. The job went fairly well. There was a language barrier, as the crew that was sent either did not speak English, or did not speak it well. There were a few hiccups, but they were resolved without too many issues. Fast forward about 7 months. I decided to surprise my wife while she was out of town and had the first floor refinished. I specifically asked if the job could be done within my timeframe while my wife was out of town. While I was told that there would be no problem, I was not told that the tradeoff would be only one coat of polyurethane instead of two. That second coat makes a huge difference! Again, a crew shows up and language is an issue. I tried communicating as best I could, but they did not seem to understand. Dust control was a major issue. I am still finding areas of my house other than where the work was done covered with dust. The floor was gouged just inside the front door. Whoever was using the sander must have been doing on the job training. You can see where he changed directions with the sander and I still see swirl marks on the floor. The foyer was not sanded evenly, but the crew leader swears he could not see it. After registering my complaints, John-the sales rep-was very apologetic and offered to send the crew leader out to make things right. Roberto came back two days later and tried to gaslight my wife and I. He insisted that there were two coats of polyurethane on the floor...even though he wasn't not even present when it was applied. He did (mostly) fix where the floor was gouged. The non-English speaking crew returned the next day to apply a second coat of polyurethane. It is interesting that she spoke English well enough to ask for payment before she left. Once the floor dried, I noticed spots that were missed. I reached out to John again and he assured me that he would have Roberto come to address any concerns and he would return with him. It was at that point that I made the mistake of paying the invoice. I have not heard from John since. My next project involves replacing all of the carpet on the second floor with hardwood floors. Guess who will not be getting the job? read more

Their website says they do carpet binding. After sitting in traffic for an hour to get to their Falls Church location, I was rudely informed that they only do that at their Springfield location. Only after inquiring, he acknowledged they have trucks going between the two locations. Then he quoted an exorbitant price for me to leave the small carpet piece at the Falls Church location to have the binding done. Not only should they be specific about which services are available at which location, they need to develop some customer service skills. read more

I give them 3.75 stars. Customer service AT THE SHOP was a bit rocky at first, but after another employee interjected, things went more smoothly. I'll withhold names. All I'll say is, the greeting and approach could've gone better. However, after the second person joined us in conversation, everything went smoothly. The first person was much sweeter after that. In fact, he provided stellar customer service after that day. The shop is on the tinier side, but I didn't mind since they had a decent selection of engineered wood, real wood, laminate wood, vinyl, and luxury vinyl floors. They also have a good variety of carpets. I paid for Noble Hall engineered wood, half of the price upfront and the remaining half after installation. We agreed to a date and time for the installation. The day of the installation, they came late by an hour and a half. They explained that the store wasn't opened yet for them to pick up what they needed. Mm, okay, but they still could've arrived 30 min. earlier. Plus, they came late again, by an hour, the second day they were supposed to come. I'll get to that later. So the contractor arrives and does a seemingly great job all around. His customer service was good and he was efficient (maybe 3 hours for about 400 sq. ft.). Unfortunately for me, I also had a security alarm guy at the house setting up. All three of us chatted a little, and the security guy and I agreed that the contractor did a good job. Then, the contractor left, and soon after, the security guy left. That's when I saw the contractor's work in detail. The contractor left so many splinters behind on my new floor as well as on my carpeted stairs. There was some sawdust around as well. The transition on the quarter round also didn't look good on a few of them. They either were cut poorly or awkardly, had random splinters, or had holes from the nails. One of the quarter rounds had a nail sticking out! The first thing I thought of was, "Thank God my nephews aren't here! Their toes or heels might've bled by accident from it." I texted the first person I spoke to at the store before and he kindly reassured me that they would take care of it and gave me Sam's number. I guess he's the boss or something. Very long story short, I called him, he told me to email him with photos, I emailed him and asked for new quarter rounds, there was miscommunication with the contractor and me, I got angry and emailed Sam, and Sam swiftly took care of it. There was also lots of frustration between me and the contractor, partly because there was a language barrier (he's Korean and knows little English). The second time the contractor came to my place, he was late by an hour. He took a look at the quarter rounds I complained about and simply snapped off the nail and hammered in the rest of the nail, scuffing the wood and making it even more ugly. Mind you, this is just ONE of the quarter rounds I complained about. He hadn't addressed the others. In disbelief, I asked "That's IT?!" As in, that's really all you can do? He laughed, shrugged, smiled, and said "That's it!" At that point, I was pissed. I told him how I asked for new quarter rounds and thought he was gonna give me new ones to replace all the quarter rounds with the nail sticking out, the splinters sticking out, and the sharp edges of the quarter round sticking out from it being awkwardly cut and shaped. He said no, I have to pay for that. I was so mad and said it should be free since he didn't do it right the first time and that he was wasting my time that I should be spending at work. I explained that for the money I spent (over $3k), I should have beautiful floors with no damages from the beginning. He left and I contacted Sam again with all my complaints. Thank God Sam is a patient and understanding man. He had the contractor return days later to replace the messed up quarter rounds, for FREE. I inspected all the quarter rounds before the contractor left and verified that they were done to my satisfaction. The contractor was WAY more pleasant during that visit. He was polite and didn't argue with me like the last time he came over. Sam rescued the day!! I am now very happy with my engineered wood floors!! Before I forget, I would like to note that Yelp shows that their page on Yelp has a "100% response rate" and says they respond within 2 hrs. on average. That's a lie, because when I reached out for help on the messed up quarter rounds, I NEVER got a response. They either never read my message on Yelp, or they ignored me. Back to Sam, it is because of Sam that I am giving them more than two stars, and it is because of the frustrating experience I had, the arguments, and the initial impression I got at the store why I am not giving them a 4/5 rating. My final rating is 3.75. I boosted it from 3.25 because Sam really did his best to make me happy. If you want to support this small business, just please CHECK their final work before they leave!! read more

Our experience with Carpetland was incredible! Knowledgeable on what to recommend, honest, did not try to up-sell us but recommended affordable add-on (better carpet pad fore a few dollars more), on-time and competitive pricing. Carpetland does quick, efficient work for a fraction of the price of Empire. I'm selling my home and wanted to put all new carpet in since I have pets. Yosef (I don't know if I'm spelling his name right) came over and did the measurements. I ended up putting new flooring in the bathroom also and the price was thousands of dollars cheaper than the quote I got from Empire. Yosef was also friendly and not as pushy as the Empire rep was. One guy came and did the bathroom floor and a guy pulled up all the carpet. The next day, the guy who pulled up the carpet came and he completed all 3 floors of carpet that same day. It was flawless so I had them come and do measurements for carpet for 2 floors in my new home. They also sanded and restained the wood floors and it looked like new when they finished. I found out that I needed work in my basement so they came and put carpet upstairs and told me to just call when I'm ready for the basement to be done. Well, in the case of this Carpetland, it is the professionalism they are selling that makes it such an amazing value. I am not surprised that Johns face is the first image for this business. His professionalism and customer service is at the premium level, leaving no doubt why people come to this business. John went above and beyond to get us the runner carpet for my sons play area we ordered. He actually drove to a different location after work and brought it to our home before a long weekend. Service was fast but unfortunately the carpet started to come up and fray at the seams. I called and they had the guy who installed it come by and try to fixe it. He glued a couple of the frayed spots but it's coming apart in other areas of the seam. I called again today and they guy said to make sure I don't damage the carpet?? Third time's not the charm. I am so disappointed to write this review. We have used Carpetland twice before with 4/4.5 star results. Once around 2000, and once around 2006 or so. This is a family owned business that has been in business for a long time but has lost their touch. When we were ready for new flooring this year we automatically went to Carpetland because of our positive experiences in the past. But this time we had terrible customer service and even worse installation. I am sorry I even paid the balance due since we are still having unresolved issues with the install of the new flooring which Carpetland has ignored. Maybe if I had refused to pay my balance they would have addressed the problems to my satisfaction. If you're in the market for new flooring, don't bother going to Carpetland. read more

I never look forward to shopping for carpet/rugs for our home. We needed to put new carpet in the family room and after some research, l walked into Carpetland at Bailey's Crossroads. The lead salesman, Vigan greeted me, listened, showed me what was in stock. We both agreed I needed to order the carpet from Mohawk. Using the sample from the old carpet I brought with me, we were able to quickly match it. Vigan came to our home at the agreed time to confirm the measurements and he the placed the order. We were kept informed about the delivery schedule and installation. On the appointed day the installer arrive (earlier than expected), removed the old carpet and padding, laid the new carpet in short order. We are very pleased with the way Vigan kept us informed throughout, new carpet and padding. It looks great and the time from order to installation was less than two weeks. read more

John was so helpful especially considering we invaded his store with our two little kids twice. The help he gave us was key and the price was great as well. After install, we love the carpet quality and choice. Later we ran into trouble with our contractor (who was to install the carpet but was slow-rolling us on finishing the 2nd half - basement) and John went over and above to solve it. I won't go into details but, suffice to say, John leveraged his relationship with our contractor to get him to finish the carpet portion of the job. Poor customer service, as the sales associate was very difficult to get ahold of and did not communicate effectively with the installers. What he initially pitched to us (and we paid for), the installer arrived and informed us that it was not recommended due to how our stairs were built. We were trying to match both our staircase and landing to the downstairs floor, and wound up with three different colors/woods as they mixed a darker stain into the wood on the stairs. Carpetland installed carpet in my home in 1985 and the work was completed professionally. When searching recently I returned to Carpetland even though I wasn't sure if they were still in business. Salesman John came out for measurements and later emailed me the costs. Throughout our communications toward sealing the deal John remained professional and answered all my questions concerning the job. We chose an upgraded carpet, pad and hardwoods for our home. We went into Carpetland after going to many other stores, both box and small business, and found that this carpetland had the small business feel with the carpet and wood floor varieties of the box stores. Jay was very knowledgeable about the products and let us walk around the store without hassling us. One morning I accidentally poured Drano on my carpet, thinking it was a different cleaning product. I learned what Drano does to carpet: it leaves an enormous orange stain and damages the hardwood underneath. I needed carpet, but I only needed a small amount of carpet (to replace the patch I poured Drano on), and it needed to match the rest of my carpet at home. I was worried about two things: (1) finding a carpet that matched what I already had, and (2) not being taken seriously by carpet stores, because I only needed a small amount of carpet. All the reviews mention this guy named John. I'm pretty sure he lives inside of Carpetland, because whenever I called the store or came to the store in person, no matter the hour, John was the person who greeted me. John clearly knows a lot about carpet and shared his expertise (and passion for carpet) with us. He gave us helpful advice and even allowed us to take a sample home to match with our existing carpet. John gave us a quote for what we were looking and stuck to it, there were no hidden fees or surprises. He didn't try to upsell us or pressure us into getting any extra carpet we didn't need. On the day of the installation, we were met by a 2-person crew led by Mauricio. The installation crew was extremely professional, doing an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves and navigating the many hazards of my 4-level townhouse. Our experience wasn't perfect. It took a few days for John to email us our quote (perhaps he forgot for a while), and it took longer than promised for the installation clue to call us with a delivery window (which they missed by ~30 minutes). I would definitely recommend contacting Carpetland by phone rather than by email, they seem to respond faster that way. I considered going as low as 4-stars for these reasons. But the professionalism of everyone involved in this operation pushed them to 5. I would buy carpet here again. read more

I came to Carpetland on a whim and I am SO glad I did. My husband and I just bought our first house and needed hardwood and carpet installed. I shopped around flooring with 7 vendors and contractors in the area. I will say John is by far the best sales associate in the area. I don't even like using the term "sales associate" because he is the opposite of salesy. John is an expert in this field, which was extremely helpful as I was just starting to learn all that goes into flooring (hardwood vs engineered, looped vs cut, etc). John also has an eye for design which was a game changer as I came in very indecisive about colors and finishes. John stayed within my budget all while delivering a beautiful outcome. What really stood out to me was a moment where John went above and beyond. I was having an issue with a particular sub-contractor for a wall and step install. This issue had a little to do with the floor but a lot to do with the overall look of this project. I frantically called John to talk through the small flooring issue. I think he could tell I was a bit distraught so he dropped what he was doing and drove out to the house to help me handle the situation. Totally not necessary but without his help I don't believe I would have had the outcome that I had with my sub-contractor project. John really cares about his projects and his customers. Within one week, we were enjoying new carpet. Hamid came out on Tuesday for measurements. Freddie arrived first thing on Saturday morning for the installation and was done in a few hours. My advice--Don't deal with John. John was great with advice and information during our multiple visits to Carpetland in search of flooring for a house we were renovating. But once the contract was signed, he was basically useless when we incurred problems with the installation. Since he was our only contact with Carpetland, we called him when the installers changed the installation date at the last minute, when the installers did not lay the flooring as per the contract specifications and when the installers damaged the flooring. When we would call John about these issues, he would promise "to get right back" to us, but IF and WHEN he did call back, it was only with an excuse as to why he could not help us. We had carpet changed by Carpetland twice in the last few years - once at our old house, and once at our new house. Both times we worked with John, who is an excellent sales guy. He gives you all the right information, presents options, and helps you make a decision.
